Steven NWP SWP .... The Burlington SD40's look great. As info, CB&Q owned Colorado and Southern, and the units were C&S locomotives. C&S purchased 13 SD40's in 1967 and 1968 numbered 875 through 887. ... CB&Q itself bought SD45's instead of SD40's. ... C&S traded in E5 passenger locomotives to EMD when it acquired the SD40's.

Both those pictures were of the same train, the Coldwater-Marshall Turn, one on the way there, the other on the way back, both are at the same spot by Ajax Refinery.

.

Steven,

.

The pictures of the club layout look good. Hopefully you can build up a good supply of pictures and start participating in Show Me Something.

Evening diners,

Good news! My uncle has decided to sign his house over to my dad, long story short the 8 acres we live on was originally purchased by my grandma, they have lived here 16 years, my uncle and his wife moved in the back and they live here for 13 or so years, well when my aunt passed away my uncle remarried about 6 months later, about a year and a half into their marriage they decided to move to a house in Liberty, MS and leave his house (a mobile home) on this land, around this time my parents bought the property off my grandparents (they still live here), well my uncle cut the power to the house so it's been sitting for 9 months empty, well it's falling apart and needs to be rebuilt, so he has finally decided to give it up and put it in my dad's name, we're going to gut it and renovate it to be my house, well in part of that I will now HAVE A PLACE FOR A LAYOUT!!!

Nothing is on paper yet but it will be soon!

I will now HAVE A PLACE FOR A LAYOUT!!!

Wow Steven! How lucky can you get!?! You got horseshoes or what?

I hope that when renovating the mobile home you won't run into too many problems. Mobile home roofs can be a bit of a challenge. When I was selling roofing we politely declined those jobs because we knew we would be running into a nightmare with most of them. Hopefully not too many critters have moved in too!

Good luck with it!

Thanks for the video Henry, that first car behind the UP locos looks like some sort of combo car I've never seen before.

Neither do I.  Is it supplying power to the rest of the train?  It looks like it's full of passengers.  There is another video from a couple days earlier of it traveling east bound.  I wonder if it was a special charter or a company/employee event.

I credit it to diet, exercise, and keeping the faith, just kidding, the roof does leak and it will need replacement, the walls will need to be stripped and replaced due to mold, I haven't been in the house for a while so I don't know how bad it is just yet.

I had high hopes too, but reality hits. We had situations like that twice. In a short answer. No, it's not going to continue into the family. Fix it up than selling it.

I decided to buy a CMW 1948 N Scale green bus. Also I got a 2 pack of people. The buses were to represent the late 50s and 60s. My problem was picking the color being green or orange.

In the 50's, the suburbs were close to the city.  My parents went to one of two Chinese carry out restaurants, both owned by Jimmy Wu, in Baltimore City proper.  There were no Chinese restaurants in Baltimore County.

They always ordered Chop Suey and I thought that was Chinese food until I was in college.  A Chinese American classmate, also worked there and he made us a meal with those tiny corn cobs.  It wasn't that wet sloppy dish of Chop Suey and I loved it.

I understand my expanded knowledge of Chinese food, still isn't "authentic" Chinese food.  A close friend travels extensively and says you can go to a restaurant and pick the live animal you want to eat.  That would have worked for Merriwether Lewis of Lewis and Clark, who preferred dog to elk, but not for me.

Flo I'll have the chicken lo mein.

Hey all.  Hope you guys didn't miss me much.

So, the biggest news is- I had an interview today.  That one didn't work out, but an hour or so after I got from it, the second place I had an application at, called.  They want me to start monday, and are willing to work me part time, until my two weeks notice is up.  Then going full time.  So I'M OUTTA THE RETAIL WORLD!!!!

Monday found me down in Wilmerding PA, to catch a once in a lifetime event- UP 1943 leading the Union Pacific Business train west back to Chicago.  Here's my shot from that day

So I've seen the CSX OCS and now the UP OCS.  I just need to see the BNSF and KCS train and I'll have the major class ones covered, excluding CN and CP.

I hope all is well for everyone here.

 Eveing Diners

Flo, give the gang and I a Beer and give Jimmy, Rick and Steven a RBF.

Work Front Went a half hour early to see what kind of mess I had to clean up with me being off work for 5 days. Well seems Kevin and Jerry did not sale much so the mess was not that bad paper work wise.

VA Health Front I am going to see a Diabitic Foot Care Specialist Friday at 9:00 AM. Sigh Not Sigh about the health care, but being out the door at 8:00 AM to get there! Seems funny in the respect when I was running body shops I dove by the VA Hosptial and another 6 miles and at to be at the shop at 7:00 AM? Whistling

Jimmy Great news on the new job! Far as the photo, all so looks good! Far as the lead engine? Ick! Does not do a thing for me. I seen it on Whats Neat This Week many times and just does not do a thing for me.

 Later, Ken

Well everyone, thanks for the kind words.  I'm gonna be doong powder coating. I've done work with metal before (drilled it out with a drill press, cut,etc).. I've also experience in painting larger objects (thank you job at the industrial pattern shop) as well as sandblasting. plus I do  have an eye for detail, As my models show.  I made sure to say "I'd like to give two weeks at my current place, but I can quit there and come here as soon as you need me".  Hes letting me do the two weeks notice.

Going to drivers ed

Steven, you are probably growing tired of my giving you advice, but if I can offer just one more suggestion, pay close attention to the driver's ed classes. Don't take them forgranted as if they are just something that you have to get through. Driving is becoming more insane every day. If you learn to be a defensive driver you will be able to protect yourself from the countless maniacs that are on the road with you. Canada recently suffered the worst possible example of driving without paying attention. 15 young members of a hockey team and their bus driver lost their lives just a couple of months ago at an intersection outside of Humbolt, Saskatchewan because two drivers weren't paying attention. Many of the survivors are maimed for life as well.

Don't get me wrong, I love driving, but if you want to survive you have to follow all the rules of defensive driving all of the time!

Jimmy .... I'll chime in with congratulations, too . You're a good person and the new employer will probably be very pleased with you. If you always strive to exceed his expectations, you should be able to work there as long a you want.

Steven NWP SWP .... Good to hear you will have space for a layout and good to hear you will take drivers ed.

Model railroading ..... I've been mostly busy with other stuff, but did have some time last night to continue working on three Walthers Empire Builder cars.

Happy model railroading, everybody....

Boy has it been a while since I was in the diner, but hello everyone. Easing back into the hobby after taking off during college, both because of life and the hobby had become more of a job than a fun time. Played some disc golf (including for Clemson's club team), moved around a lot for co-ops and internships, and let my mind wander, but now I'm back. Still playing disc golf, but when it's pouring or freezing model trains will be perfect. My plans never really wavered for a model theme though, so I will be basing my new layout off of the Missouri North Central in Chillicothe, MO, with lots of substitutions and changes (calling it Proto-lanced). I anticipated this layout growing, with other industries added to the park and the run to an interchange added once I have more space and have eased back into the hobby. I am currently living in an apartment in Collierville, TN, with my girlfriend and start my new job at Packaging Corp of America on Monday, after graduating Clemson with my degree in Industrial Engineering this past May. I hope everyone has been well and I look forward to getting back to being active in the community.

I'll leave y'all with a picture of the current layout plan. I've been hosting my pictures now on the Railwire gallery, and I hope the watermark will not run afoul of the forum policies. If it does, I will host them on Flickr, but it's easier to run the pictures out of the hosting there (stupid Photobucket).

Good afternoon .... I'll have a RBF (Root Beer Float), please.

Sawyer / Packer .... It is delightful to see you back in the Diner..... Tell me if I'm wrong, but I think you were in South Carolina when you were here in the Diner previously. It is good to hear you are not wasting any time. Your Industrial Engineering degree from Clemson is a great accomplishment ! ... Congratulations about the new job ! .... Best wishes to you and your girl friend... I've been using Flickr to post photos ever since Photobucket messed things up. Your planned layout looks great ! Keep us informed. ....

Everybody: .... Happy Model Railroading !

Evening Diners,

I found an autumn cornstalk from Bluford Shops on EBay today for a reasonable price range. I decided not to get it. My decision was wrapped around if/when this little Nebraska town was going to be located in the spring/ summer or autumn. I couldn't believe that the corn was white.
