Good Morning Everyone!

Brunhilda, make that  really strong coffee in an IV bag for me, please. I did not catch much sleep last night either, so I am "walking on my gums", as we say in my country.

I did a bit of railfanning earlier on, catching the morning train at sunrise as it is waiting to leave Talheim (The Tinplate Town) for Schopfheim and Schaffhausen.

The scene will vastly improve when I have "planted" a few more trees, which are on order! There is only one more structure to be added - a memorial on the town square:

I think, old Bismarck will make a fine statue on the layout!

Have a good one!

Happy times!

My Dad always said that it should be a requirement that car designers first work for two years as a mechanic.

I thought today we could take a small field trip from Flagstaff to Sunset Crater. Sunset Crater is located in the Sunset Crater Volcanic National Monument, about 20 northwest of Flagstaff. Not to worry, Sunset Crater is a dormant/extinct volcano last erupting in approximately 1085 AD. The Sunset Crater eruption produced a blanket of ash and lapilli covering an area of more than 810 square miles and forced the temporary abandonment of settlements of the local Sinagua people. (More on the Sinagua people when we make our next stop at the Wupatki National Monument.) There was a brief scare in 2015 when satellite images seemed to show steam escaping in the area, but further investigation showed the plume was the result of a forest fire. You used to be able to hike to the summit of the crater, but the trail was closed in 1973 due to the damaged cause by the human foot traffic. Enjoy the cooler mountain temperatures--the high in Flagstaff today was only 80F.

 Afternoon Diners

Flo, the gang and I will have a Beer please and give Rick and Steven what they like.

Rick Ford is not the only company then or now bulit things stupid! I think it was a 1979 Firebird you had to pull the right side fender to install a new blower motor? Far as the battery in the bumper, that sounds like Chrysler. Newer Caddillac's you have to take the front bumber off to change a turn single bulb? Well Ford beat them to that one! 1994 Ford Probe you had to do the samething.

Credit Front Big Smile Seems my credit score went up 9 points! Yes In the last 3 months I have lowered my CC deibt by $600.00. Anytime I use any card I pay it back the same day plus I add a dollar over to what I spent. Works great with my Citi Bank card, I get 1% of what I spend and 1% for every payment. Cash back has covered the intrest for the last six months. Yes

Train Front I have 2 possible problems with the PRR M1a making the turnout to the passanger station.

1 After the #6 turnout the curve does not look smooth. Looks like the lead driver is not just right. Not off the rail but not in the center.

2 The open 4.5 turnout does not have a switch machine holding the blades open. For my diesels not a problem.

Trains are running great so later, Ken

well my uncle cut the power to the house so it's been sitting for 9 months empty, well it's falling apart and needs to be rebuilt, so he has finally decided to give it up and put it in my dad's name, we're going to gut it and renovate it to be my house,

Steven,

It has been my experience that "Renovating " a mobile home will cost you more money / time than the home is worth. ( I have delt with a few in my time on planet Earth.)

A better solution would be to sell / scrap the mobile home , and find a good used one to move into it's place. ( I have had a few moved ) the last one I moved myself . NOT RECOMMENDED ! I pulled this 4 axle monster with my Dodge 2500 pick-up for 15 miles .   I nearly Killed everybody on the road ! ( All this to save the $600 the mover wanted for the job.) My Wife had the "Easy job", she drove our other pick-up with big Oversize Load signs on it. Warning the other driver's on the road that an IDIOT was headed toward's them ! ( I went ahead and paid to have the "Other half" moved)

Good used mobile home's can be found for around $5000. I got our last one , a double wide, for $1500. ( they were friend's , so I got it for less than they were asking for it. )  But I had to pay a guy $4500 to bulldoze the land for a spot to put it.

I'm no expert , but if you have any question's about it, I'm happy to share my  "little knowledge" with you.

Rust...... It's a good thing !

Good evening diners,

Drivers ed is now mandatory in the state of Louisiana, for all ages.

One of the ladies (luckily she works in the office) is not a happy camper, and does not like teenagers. One of the students who has a sleep issue, fell asleep two more times today, so he's going home.

Blue Oval may not be the most convenient maintenance wise, but I love them anyways.

Good afternoon diners.

Chloe - I will take a cheeseburger with fries and a RBF please. Thanks.

Jimmy - Congrats!

Steven NWP - Drivers-ed is a worthwhile thing to take. They do cover some situations that will indeed come up.

My drivers-ed course, you could not write on the test papers, but put the numbers on another sheet and then wrote your answer next to it.

Funny question I had on my drivers-ed final was this: Your car stalls on the tracks, and there is no train coming. Do you run (a) - away from the train, or (b) - towards the train?

Whistling

My answer? I circled the question (Not permitted!) and put on my answer sheet, "I would (C), get out, and push the car off the tracks." I then put "If there was a train, run towards it."

I almost put "With a camera", but I didn't. Wink

Ken - Why does Ford seem to do silly things on their cars? On mine, the oil filter sits in a awesome location - Right above the exhaust headers! So, for the next month after an oil change, all you smell is burning oil! Whichever "genius" thought that location was a good idea, should be forced to railfan a little used line for 24hrs straight!

Guess it could be worse though. My friend had to take her car (not a Ford) in to the dealer, simply because it needed a battery. She couldn't find it. Come to find out, it sits inside the rear wheel well, opposite side from the fuel tank fill spout!

(EDIT) - I had to fix a typo (who is Al anyways?) and say hi to Ulrich and Henry.

Ulrich - Hope you can get some sleep tonight.

Planes on a train - A few years back, BNSF sent a few 737 fuselages into the river as result of a derailment. Boeing scrapped them due to the damage.

Here is a link to a news report with pictures of the aftermath.

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-boeing-derailment-idUSKBN0FA0QD20140706

Hope all are well, and all enjoy the day!

Good Evening, Folks!

The last couple of days have been quite hot again, so no sleep and no energy for just about anything for this fellow here.

I did manage to assemble a kit. Now Talheim The Tinplate Town has a church! A couple of trees and trhe scene will look quite pleasing!

I am now looking for a fountain to grace the town square! Or a memorial, something like Emperor Bill II.

Sawyer - good to see you here again!

Jimmy - congrats on the new job!

Henry - here us your video:

I hope and pray to catch some sleep in the coming night. This is no fun!

TTFN!

Happy times!

I am surprised, in this day and age of vandalism, that they actually transport planes on trains.  I've not seen cars like that ones that follow the planes.  Any ideas?

 Eveing Diners

Flo, I see Steven is buying, ahh can he pay for my Beer? Ok, I will buy a round for the gang and give Rick a RBF.

Packer Congrats on getting out of school and getting a job!

Steven If you get a 69 Mustang, stay away from Big Blocks unless you know a lot of 4 letter words! I had a 68 Cobra Mustang with a 427 Medium Riser in it. When I bought the car the 427 was out of it. After I rebulit I tried to install the engine with the HP Exhaust manafolds on the engine. They caught on the frame rails and the motor would not go in. OK, pulled the exhaust manafolds and got the motor installed to the trans! Big Smile When to install the exhauset manafolids bolts (3" to 4" long) and they would clear the fire wall? Bang Head

Had to pull the heads, bolt the exhaust manafolds to the heads and install as a unit! Found out later that how Ford did it, great if I knew that I would have saved 2 days. Luckly being in the Army I knew a bunch of 4 letter words so I never ran out. Smile, Wink & Grin

Next problem? Ok it is running and I broke it in. Wanted to pull the spark plugs to check if it was running lean or rich. Bang Head Had to undo the driver side motor mount and jack up the motot to get to the driver side plugs!Bang Head

Train Question Randy (Rinker) posted that my Lake Merritt and Centerfann PRR coarches where 10-1-2 Sleepers. What the heck is a 10-1-2 sleeper?

Trains are running great, so later. Ken

The '69 Mustang still has a while before it becomes roadworthy, that said as soon as I have my license my business will start and I will have money to throw that way, as soon as it's roadworthy I'm going to invest my money in a '69 Fastback (AKA "Sportsroof") that's my dream car, a 69 fastback with a 460 supercharged, (I know it's not stock), but the coupe has a special place in my heart being that I bought it with my own money and such, I don't think I'd ever part with it. The Coupe will get a 302 automatic which is stock for it, funny thing is when I bought it I wanted a blue mustang, well it's OE color is Bullitt green, well for some reason now I'm starting to like green a bit more!Laugh

Layout news, no word from my uncle on when the paperwork will be drawn up, not sure if this is a ploy of some sort or what, we're giving him some time though.

The 13th I start music lessons again, going to work on Beyond the Sea.

Also in August Mr. Henry (he works maintenance at one of the hotels, nicest man you'll ever meet) he has decided to retire due to back trouble, I'll be taking his position as parking lot, pool maintenance, painting, and other general tasks to help fund my business venture.

Top of page, drinks on me pals!Beer

Evening Diners,

I found an autumn cornstalk from Bluford Shops on EBay today for a reasonable price range. I decided not to get it. My decision was wrapped around if/when this little Nebraska town was going to be located in the spring/ summer or autumn. I couldn't believe that the corn was white.

Well everyone, thanks for the kind words. I'm gonna be doong powder coating. I've done work with metal before (drilled it out with a drill press, cut,etc).. I've also experience in painting larger objects (thank you job at the industrial pattern shop) as well as sandblasting

Jimmy, I have to say that sounds very much better than working retail.

Congratulations. I hope you enjoy the work. As has been said, clean up well!

It is good to hear you are not wasting any time. Your Industrial Engineering degree from Clemson is a great accomplishment ! ... Congratulations about the new job ! .... Best wishes to you and your girl friend... I've been using Flickr to post photos ever since Photobucket messed things up. Your planned layout looks great ! Keep us informed. ....

Boy has it been a while since I was in the diner, but hello everyone. Easing back into the hobby after taking off during college, both because of life and the hobby had become more of a job than a fun time. Played some disc golf (including for Clemson's club team), moved around a lot for co-ops and internships, and let my mind wander, but now I'm back. Still playing disc golf, but when it's pouring or freezing model trains will be perfect. My plans never really wavered for a model theme though, so I will be basing my new layout off of the Missouri North Central in Chillicothe, MO, with lots of substitutions and changes (calling it Proto-lanced). I anticipated this layout growing, with other industries added to the park and the run to an interchange added once I have more space and have eased back into the hobby. I am currently living in an apartment in Collierville, TN, with my girlfriend and start my new job at Packaging Corp of America on Monday, after graduating Clemson with my degree in Industrial Engineering this past May. I hope everyone has been well and I look forward to getting back to being active in the community.

I'll leave y'all with a picture of the current layout plan. I've been hosting my pictures now on the Railwire gallery, and I hope the watermark will not run afoul of the forum policies. If it does, I will host them on Flickr, but it's easier to run the pictures out of the hosting there (stupid Photobucket).

Jimmy .... I'll chime in with congratulations, too . You're a good person and the new employer will probably be very pleased with you. If you always strive to exceed his expectations, you should be able to work there as long a you want.

Steven NWP SWP .... Good to hear you will have space for a layout and good to hear you will take drivers ed.

Model railroading ..... I've been mostly busy with other stuff, but did have some time last night to continue working on three Walthers Empire Builder cars.

Happy model railroading, everybody....

Going to drivers ed

Steven, you are probably growing tired of my giving you advice, but if I can offer just one more suggestion, pay close attention to the driver's ed classes. Don't take them forgranted as if they are just something that you have to get through. Driving is becoming more insane every day. If you learn to be a defensive driver you will be able to protect yourself from the countless maniacs that are on the road with you. Canada recently suffered the worst possible example of driving without paying attention. 15 young members of a hockey team and their bus driver lost their lives just a couple of months ago at an intersection outside of Humbolt, Saskatchewan because two drivers weren't paying attention. Many of the survivors are maimed for life as well.

Don't get me wrong, I love driving, but if you want to survive you have to follow all the rules of defensive driving all of the time!

Flo, give the gang and I a Beer and give Jimmy, Rick and Steven a RBF.

Work Front Went a half hour early to see what kind of mess I had to clean up with me being off work for 5 days. Well seems Kevin and Jerry did not sale much so the mess was not that bad paper work wise.

VA Health Front I am going to see a Diabitic Foot Care Specialist Friday at 9:00 AM. Sigh Not Sigh about the health care, but being out the door at 8:00 AM to get there! Seems funny in the respect when I was running body shops I dove by the VA Hosptial and another 6 miles and at to be at the shop at 7:00 AM? Whistling

Jimmy Great news on the new job! Far as the photo, all so looks good! Far as the lead engine? Ick! Does not do a thing for me. I seen it on Whats Neat This Week many times and just does not do a thing for me.

Hey all.  Hope you guys didn't miss me much.

So, the biggest news is- I had an interview today.  That one didn't work out, but an hour or so after I got from it, the second place I had an application at, called.  They want me to start monday, and are willing to work me part time, until my two weeks notice is up.  Then going full time.  So I'M OUTTA THE RETAIL WORLD!!!!

Monday found me down in Wilmerding PA, to catch a once in a lifetime event- UP 1943 leading the Union Pacific Business train west back to Chicago.  Here's my shot from that day

So I've seen the CSX OCS and now the UP OCS.  I just need to see the BNSF and KCS train and I'll have the major class ones covered, excluding CN and CP.

I hope all is well for everyone here.
