Just woke up from a midday nap and I feel like having a slice of that apple crumble pie (better make it two slices), topped with vanilla ice cream and rum raisins, not to forget  the coffee..

No plans for the rest of the day, other than playing with my trains and do a little daydreaming - maybe of this object of my desire:

Bildergebnis für Spur HO Märklin 3329 Elektrolok E 191 099-1 DB OVP

I just love these old electric engines! Isn´t it a shame I had to get that new tail light instead?

Happy times!

Morning diners just a cup of coffee black is all I need.

Just got done with that whopping breakfast I was dreaming about last night while I was Restless and could not sleep. I ended up eating a big slice of cheese and finally hit the rack in the early hours of the morning.

No plans today. Skipped my breakfast club this week I'm too tired. Looks like rain here so a classic car ride is definitely out. Maybe I'll just kick back and build some Bridge pillars today. Modeling is always good on a rain day.... Hey if I get them done I can put their shoes on.Wink

That sounds very good this morning to me as well. Add a glass of milk to that as well, please.

Hobby Front: Finally got the last of the equipment converted to Kadees. Now comes the wait to get the layout sections moved. When that will happen, I don't even think "the Shadow knows".

Morning diners

My wife and I have been known to get out early on a Saturday night for dinner and kick our heels a bit. Cowboy Jack's is a great place with good food and close to home. Early is a good plan on a Saturday night before the Mad Rush when all the loud young ones Pop in.

If by chance we over welcome our stay a little bit. It's always a safe bet to take a cab home. That's me on the top front, left of the snobby man with the Choppers, on the other side of Colonel Sanders. Wifey got to ride inside you can't see her it was sprinkling a little.

PS.... Oh by gosh you can see her. She is peeping out the front window all the way to the right. Such a handsome woman she is.

A short time ago I stood corrected by Sheldon in my personal mail. Apparently I had my history twisted. My long-term memory obviously did not serve me well. Apparently I had Thomas Jefferson confused with someone else in history. I'm sure this could be an example of why politics are frowned upon on the Forum here.

Again I must apologize.... My Father instilled upon me "what makes a man a better man is when he can admit he is wrong". I was wrong.Sad Tongue Tied

Afternoon Diners,

Zoe- Just a chicken sandwich with fries, thanks.

Steven- I rather watch the old Magnum P.I. I saw the reboot commercial a few weeks ago and I understand about crashing the Ferrari in the show. It's also a main character in the show. Bullet holes, ramming (explodes) proofs that the show could be doomed.

Afternoon diners,

Angelo, yeah I watched the entire preview and saw that, the new ferrari getting shot up was ehh, when I saw the old ferrari I got excited, then I saw them drive it over a cliff, so yeah, kinda disappointed there.

Good morning from the beautiful West Coast of the Canadian part of America. It is already in the 20s and thus a good say for Deere riding.

Track Fiddler, I never have a problem being corrected as it means I have learned something. All the topics that are banned on this forum could be discussed at great length if people relied on facts instead of emotion in their contributions. We have great long discussions at our house on a regular basis when our friends are over. We must all sound like a bunch of Mr. Spocks talking I am sure, however, facts are always checked when we are unsure (easy and quick in this day and age) and then we carry on with the conversation.

Have been doing a lot of reading on the Hejaz/Hedjaz railway and that has led me to start reading another rather thick, somewhat, intimidating (small print) book on the Middle East (A Peace To End All Peace) that has been on my shelf for years waiting for me. I always roll my eyes heavenward when statements come forth from the "emotionally uninformed" who cannot name the first Prime Minister of Canada or find Korea on a map, yet have all the answers. I don't know much but I am always willing to find out. I question everything to the consternation of some in my orbit as I always hold them to account on their comments. Learning a little about things often leads to wanting to learn a lot about something, like railroads.

Going over to Vancouver Island next month to look at houses. My wife has a friend that owns houses all over the world and she is letting us stay at their waterfront estate in Victoria for a few days. The husband runs one of the big oil companies on the planet and they live in Zurich and France most of the time. I am not sure this blue-collar guy feels comfortable staying there as they are not there and she is telling the staff we will be coming. Nicest most down to earth people you could meet, just a little out of my league.Laugh I 'll feel like the Beverly Hillbillies rolling in there in my 18 year old Ford P/U.Laugh

We were talking Boats a lot last night as I will want one if we end up with waterfront. A 26' Sunbridge would be perfect, so I can get back to Salmon fishing. I sure miss those days. If we had waterfront I would sign up to be on the emergency marine response call list. I have a few Power squadron courses on top of a good bit of experience under my belt and have a pretty good idea of what I am doing on the water. About thirty years ago, we were out fishing and saw a tug pulling logs go up in flames. We cut the lines and hit the gas, fortunately, others were closer and the three men on board had been taken off by the time we arrived.

Lots to do so better do it.

Stay safe, all the best to all.

Ulrich Thank You

I thoroughly enjoyed viewing the video you provided.

I pay a cell phone service for my wife and I. It definitely is not the Premium plan. Our internet gigs run down to nothing this time of the month. Watching an internet video on my phone right now is impossible.

I left the house and went down to the library to see.

Your Homeland is beautiful. The architecture, the castles on hills, the contrast of the land, the waterfronts, Steeples and structure, just beautiful. Thank you for sharing.

When I think of the little area I have lived in and how limited I have deviated from it.  To get away and see the rest of the world is not a common affair.

It's a shame, almost like a fish living in a fishbowl. We are limited in life and live our lives never seeing the world in its entirety. Yes it really is a shame.

I am hopeful someday I will go to Europe. I would love to see Germany, Italy, Scotland, and Ireland with my own eyes.

Thanks for sharing Wink

I just wanted to point out how much I like the music of Johnny Cash. All his songs had a simple beat. So simple it fascinated the music Industries producers how every song he produced sounded like a steam engine in the background working hard.

A moment of silence is warranted the date of his death

I'm the only one breathing well and replying to this thread right now.

Yes I am. I just wanted to point out how much the music of Johnny Cash changed our lives. Johnny had a simple beat. So simple in fact it blew the minds of the music Industries producers. Every song he produced sounded like a steam engine working hard.

So I propose when it's Johnny Cash's birthday or Johnny Cash's death date. We all stop and take a deep breath.  A moment of silence is warranted.

We will gather our thoughts. There was never anyone In Our Lifetime like Johnny Cash.... Wink

Track Fiddler ..... I,too, like Johnny Cash's music. What date is it? .... Perhaps, we Diners should spend a month in Music City, too.

Speaking of Music CIty, I will be in Nashville tomorrow.

Meanwhile, we are still in Arizona.... Here is a photo I took in Maricopa, AZ.

I went to Syracuse Friday so I could photograph trains on a busy mainline.  I wasn't ready for the ridiculously long trains CSX is running these days -- I'd hate getting stuck at a grade crossing!

[Graffiti discussion removed by admin]

Hopefully, all of you are doing well.  I hardly ever stop by these days, but it's due to time more than anything else.

Evening diners,

Right now I'm watching the old Magnum, mowed the grass yesterday and today, had to replace the discharge chute that was on there with a new one, I made both from scrap sheet metal, I might have to tweak the new one some to get it right, glued the seat cushion back on, did some tilling this afternoon, there's a bald spot in the lawn that won't grow so I tilled it up put some Scott's topsoil down and seeded with all purpose forage grass, why forage and not turf grass? Well the spot is in full sun and the forage is all they had that is sun resistant.

Tomorrow is work again, I tell ya I am enjoying the blue collar work, my dad is what I'd call a faded blue collar, what I mean by that is he will do physical labor when needed but the most part he's a desk jockey, my Grandpa Ward was blue collar, worked for ConEd as a meter man, and a lot of the Ward men were blue collar, my Grandpa Dinnean was a pipefitter, my Paw Paw Covington was a Boilermaker, (my mom's parents are divorced and remarried) most of the Bradleys were blue collar. I enjoy being on the move, I'm earning a reputation at the hotel for being quick, I go looking for work, sweep the apron of the parking lot, done, go put air fresheners in the PTAC units in the vacant rooms done, in under 30 minutes I may add.

Anyways, now that I am earning a paycheck I'm thinking of all the things I'm going to start being able to afford, I'm going to buy a rowing machine (I'm not into the whole gym membership thing, too many machines to choose from!) A car, as in a nice car, one you can take a girl out in and make a good impression. Trains of course, some SD40s, 45s, and maybe some 50s to start, perhaps a AC-8 sometime in the future. A new phone and computer. Parts for the 69' Mustang. A new lawn mower. A garden tractor, or a real tractor the previous would be more sensible, John deere 140, a few mods to make it look more like a 4020 "new generation" tractor, a few implements like a plow and stuff. Of course I don't have a time line for any of it, and I figure I won't get it all till after college, but hey a man can dream!

Anyways I better hit the sack, gotta get up early!

Steve

Good Afternoon!

A rather dull day here and I feel a little depressed. I am still tryimng to find ways of improving our lives, but whichever way I look at it, there seems to be no way. It´s either a lack of money or my bad health keeping us from making the move to "greener pastures".

Johhny Cash - my all time favorite US singer!

Enjoy!

Happy times!

Friendly suggestion:

When you start out your post with a comment along the lines of "Forum rules prevent discussing this topic, BUT," ...maybe don't make that post? That way I won't have to come in later and delete a bunch of stuff.

Okay? Big Smile

My wife is still smoking

So is my dear Petra. It´s quite challenging not to tell her how revolting the stale smell of cigarettes is - just to keep the household peace. I wish she would quit smoking as well, but there is no way I can make her do that, if she does not have the will on her own.

... I know what you mean, and it brings back memories  of the time at school when I told the assistant head master, a pipe smoker, just how disgusting his breath smelled. It did not go well with me since those were days when corporal punishment was normal, and his weapon of choice a razor strop cut in a deep V. "Happy Days" NOT!

John - good to see you here again!

If you want to post photos here, you need to have them stored at a picture hosting site. I am using Imgur, which is easy to handle - very similar to the old Photobucket. Once the picture is uploaded to the hosting site you can copy and paste the BB code here and the picture will appear in the post. There is also a sticky post by Steven O. on top of this forum.

Thanks Ulrich, I have an Imgur account - but found that their logo plastered itself over the bottom of my photos - where most of the interesting parts of my photos tend to be. So i gave that up. Evidently this doesn't happen to other Imgur users (your goodself?), so that was one reason besides not being able to log in why I dropped away. I'm going to go to my Imgur account and see if I can post in here without the logo. Here's how that tourist destination castle turned out, and its relation to the track. Tourist castle. Nope, that's not working either via the icon or the "Insert image" route using the url copied from the image in my Imgur account. So, what I wonder am I doing wrong.... Trying again with the url copied from the image in my Imgur Album, see if that is any different...

bingo - and thanks also for the Photos How To sticky at the top of the GD Forum Page re the "if it doesn't have .jpg it's still on a webpage" tip. OK, so now I'm good to go.... and no Imgur logo intruding, Cool

 Eveing Diners

Flo, The gang and I will have a Beer please and give Rick and Steven what they like.

Had a long post last night about 300 plus words. Hit send and got a error screen and it was lost! Bang Head Short verson Congrats on the golden spike and 2 weeks smoke free Track Fiddler.

GL has been very good lately but this moring just a little to good at 45? So for breakest I had 3 eggs, sauges pattie, bacon and 2 pices of whole wheat toast. That breakfest kicked my butt and did not feel like doing a darn thing the rest of the day. If my meter is right my 30 day avg is a 5.3.

Pleasent Surprises Today. Made a payment on my Discover Card and found Discover gave me a $1700.00 increase! Big Smile That should help my credit score by 21 points!

Train Front, where did all this Rolling Stock Come From? I did a count Sunday and I have 213 pices of rolling stock on the layout? Town looks more like a hum yard with out the hump? Whistling Plus I know I missed a few when I did the count. I all so have 105 cars boxed up and have not seen them in 3 years or so. I am pretty sure I have another 50 or so under the layout and in my Snap On Tool Box! Seems like just a few years ago my goal was 100 rolling stock. Ok, guess it was more like 10 years ago. Odd thing, I would not mind more! Laugh

The phone has been ringing every 1/2 hour.  Almost all calls from small towns in Maryland.  Verizon has a new thing, which they never announced, called NOMOROBO.  You have to sign up for it.  Calls still ring once. Which is what they did today.

The spoofers, calling from every local exchange have rendered call blockers impractical.  Ulrich do you have robo calls in Germany?

My ex-wife and I went to France an Great Britain two years in a row, in August.  Both times the weather was great!!!

We vowed to go to Europe once a year, thereafter, but as she was preggars with our second in England, and we never went again.  Your complaints of humidity have disabused my notions that it was crazy to leave Europe for the stinkin humidity of the colonies.

A friend of mine made me a Baltimore Truss Bridge.  What we discussed, is not quite what he built, but it doesn't matter, because his skill set is far above mine.  I also asked him to call me when he was working on it.  He called me when it was finished. Too bad, it would have been a great MR article, but apparently his techniques are secret.     See my thread in Layouts.

Not that I know of! They are illegal and since that law was passed, a couple of businesses  have been sued into oblivion!
