My wife has insisted I wear women's Secret Baby Powder scented deoderant for 25 plus years.

SeeYou190
Maybe there is something to this.

While "Dating" in highschool I discovered that the lady's liked the scent of " Loves Baby Soft" .... Sure, it's NOT a "Manly scent" .... but the girl's seemed to hang around longer when I wore it.

I also picked up a VERY worthwhile tip from my Grandmother. She suggested that I put a "Dab" of Vanilla Extract behind each ear. It make's the lady's think of home ( A familiar, comfortable, and safe place......)

Tried this on the last woman I ever dated...... we have been married for 10 year's now.( Of course  now I stink of Diesel every night when I get home.)

Rust...... It's a good thing !

Hey diners, I passed drivers ed!!!!

Congratulation, Steven!

I did that 45 years ago and I still have vivid memories of my first attempt to drive the driver´s ed car, a 1969 Plymouth Fury with a rather touchy brake. I must have stepped a little to vigorously on the brake and that sent my driver´s ed teacher, Richard Okada, bump his head on the windscreen. We both learned a lesson - I learned what a "touchy brake" is, and he learned never to forget to buckle up for safety!

I just searched for his name and learned that he passed away on November 20th, 2005. May he rest in eternal peace!

Happy times!

Ulrich- Is there going to be more scenery like roads and grass?

Yes, indeed!

Basically, everything not covered by grass will be roads, hence the grey color of the board. Of course, there will be some more scenic details, like sidewalks, gully grates or covers, a little roundabout with a statue, gas street lights, people, street signs, a group of nuns heading from the church to the station  and maybe a lot more I can´t think of right now!

Happy times!

Afternoon Diners,

Well our dead tree in front of the house is gone. It took two chainsaws and a metal chain to pull it out the front yard.

Sweet! Page 5--my favorite!

You know it is summer when, while out for your morning bike ride at 6:30, you try to find respite from the heat in the shadow of a light pole while waiting for the light to change. (I may be skinny, but not that skinny.)

As for the cologne/scent discussion, my wife picks mine since she seems to have strong feelings in the matter. Her choice--Polo Red. (She also likes Polo Black.) I remember reading years back that men are more driven by visual stimuli, while women respond more to olfactory stimuli. Who am I to argue.

As promised, here is our next stop in the Flagstaff area. Just north of Sunset Crater is the Wupatki National Monument containing the ruins of the settlements of the Cohonina, Kayenta Anasazi, and Sinagua peoples. These were a pueblo-buiding people. The area was first inhabited by the Sinagua people in 500 AD when they built a multi-story dwelling containing over 100 rooms, including a community room and a ball court. Perhaps LeBron would have had better luck playing the much shorter Sinagua Shooters. (Sorry, couldn't resist.)

The train set is slowly developing into a layout!

I am quite pleased with that!

Garry - thanks for sharing your pictures and memories with us!

TTFN!

Edit: I was not really happy with the position of the big tree next to the church. Fortunatelöy, the glue hadn´t set yet, so moving it an inch forward was no big issue. Makes a big difference. Now I have to find a handful of grave stones to scatter underneath the tree...

Good morning .....

Ken .... Congratualtions of the weight loss. Your "bad news" is cause for concern however. I hope that can be taken care of soon.

Jimmy ... Good news from you about the new job.

While we are in Arizona, the Verde Canyon Railroad is a great experience. We road on it several years ago, and I have some photos to post I took on the trip. The train has a pair of FP7's. It has coaches alternated with modified flatcars.

Below is a link to their website....

A freight railroad shortline operates over the same track, and I took this photo in Clarkdale.

Hey all.

So I start part time on Tuesday for my new job, until my two weeks at my current job is over. Then I'll go full time. This new job sounds absolutely perfect for me, and the pay is twice what I made at the grocery store, and more hours. So maybe my dream of having my own house with a basement isnt out of my reach. Big Smile although I feel like my (current) job is getting back at me for advancing in life.

Yesterday found me actually watching a track gang tamping ballast and doing track alignment. That tamper is an amazing piece of machinery.  I was like a 10 year old, since that was the first time I've ever seen it in operation. Also ran into the PWV and Montour guru at the same spot that day.  Good to catch up with him.

Ive been experimenting more with the hairspray method for weathering, and I think I have it down now. I'll post a pic of it in the weekend photo fun thread.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Evening Diners,

Steven- I remember those old Peggy credit card commercials. You made me feel old.

I watched a YouTube video three or four years ago.  In which two girls discussed men and women products that smells good on men. At the end they said buy women products to get females.

My hobby store sold out of the green transit bus. So I got a blue one instead, if it doesn't work out for the town I'll turn it into my G.N.O. Railway passenger bus.

*if this feel rushed. It's my second time. The first one got deleted by website by submitting.

Olfactory stimulus is the strongest trigger for memory.

So reasoning behind girls liking guys that smell of baby powder, simple 1 baby powder is used on? Babies, so when the female of the species smells this it brings a comforting feeling because that smell is linked to their infant years and the comfort their mother provided. 2 who has babies? Girls, so they link that smell to babies and it triggers their motherly instincts. 3 in Kevins case, perhaps the fact that some guys smelled of baby powder reminded them of you.

The first is a bit more on point....

I have never used cologne, just don't feel the purpose, waste of time and money, anyways as long as you don't smell of say cow manure, your ahead of the ball game!Laugh

(Edit, I do however think if you have a more pungent odor put out by your body, perhaps it is something to consider!Laugh just remember by the time you smell it everyone else does too!)

I dabble in the ideas of psychology, and try to be a comedian, but I won't quit my day job, now for music? You bet your last dollar!Laugh

Well its getting late I better get to sleep to get up early tomorrow!

I have a garden with five types of tomato plants, I've gotten one Roma so far, I think next year I will make the garden bigger. It's a raised bed, I might just go for the in ground one next year. I would like to have a good variety of tomatoes and peppers and at least two plants of each if I had a inground garden.

I just weighed myself, I've lost 10 pounds! I'm 230 from 240! I haven't changed my diet, so I guess my no McDonald's, Wendy's, Burger King, Taco Bell, ecetera, ecetera... ahd no soda of any kind has finally paid off!

I have 6 tomatos.  If they turn red by 4th of July, you are doing well around here.  The plants are tall and gangly from all the rain.

Every now an then I walk in the locker room at the gym and the smell of colgne almost sends me into an asthma attack.  And there will be nobody there! The smell is still lingering from someone who left several minutes ago.

I used to love the complexity of classical music.   The local radio station changed format and I don't listen to it much at all.

Just saw a funny commercial  The car insurance guy is pretending to be a cell phone lost, under the car seat.

Hello diners,

Fragrance subject, personally I use Old Spice deodorant and if called for pomade for hair styling.

Talked to a girl in class, she's a Classical Cellist which made interesting conversation being that I'm a singer, I don't have the best knowledge of classical but can hold my own, I know the basic composers and some of their work.

I think she comes from a really refined family, why? Well in addition to her love of classical music she had Van Gough's Starry Night on her thermos. I of course commented on it since I recognized the painting.

At least I didn't end up like this guy.

AHH, BACH!Laugh

I do have a appreciation for classical, I'm currently brushing up on it to be well equipped for tomorrow's conversations.Smile, Wink & Grin

Well I might stop in again in a while.

Most of us are in an age where these things matter less than the ability of our dear 6-axle Diesel to negotiate that one and only tight curve on our layout.

Hmmmmm....  Maybe I'll try that. LOL  Whatever I'm doing isn't leading to any success yet...... Whistling  But Ulrich, I can tell you I am not at all interested in any Diseasal type thingy negotiating any curves on my layout!  It be 1925 down there. LOL (Saturday, August 15 at 2:00 PM....)

Garden is up for the most part.  That is both the seeds I planted and the weeds that grow there all by themselves....  Evidentally one of the starlings hanging around my house discovered a new Bald Face Hornet's nest at the back of my house.  It was competely torn apart with most of it on the ground and no hornets hanging around.  That I don't mind at all!!!

(Edit) Oh, Ken, that's great on the weight loss!!!  Keep up the good work.

Need to get out my guitar out and toughen up my fingers a bit I guess.

VA Health Care. Good and Bad News.

Good News I lost 4 pounds and 5 oz from this last Febuary. Surprise So that is 30 pounds in the last year. Yes

Bad News? I was sent to the wrong clinic! Bang Head I need to be seen by the Leg Ulicer Clinic not the Diesbitic Foot Care Nurse! Her job is to keep ulicers away, not fix them when you have them! Plus they cannot find the X-Rays that Anderson Hospital sent them! SoapBox I cannot be seen by Leg Ulicer Clinic till they have the X-Rays for some reason. Whistling

Besides getting my weight checked I got blood work done and dropped off a new glasses frame for new lenes so not a total lost day.

 Later, Ken

Afternoon Diners,

We replace our water heater yesterday. Cleaning up the water and taking stuff and junk out back to dry. It corroded from the inside making a hole on the outside draining water from the side. My mom noticed it yesterday morning at 2 in the morning doing laundry.

We got a new one. Most of the stuff is back, but it will take a while.

I got two things that we're doing but I'll wait until it's done to tell you.

So, we went to another grill, where we got prompt courteous service right up until it was time for the bill. We sat for 15 more minutes after we were done and the plates had been cleared while the dear little blonde server waited on everyone around us but us.

I don't consider that poor service.  She probably thought that you were on a date, and most times folks like to sit for awhile, let the food settle, and have a conversation.  That's normally the point where the guy hits on the girl.  If you were in a hurry you could have asked the waitress for the bill as she was clearing the table.

Or, alternately, the waitress liked the smell or kerosene, thought you were cute, and was waiting for your wife to go to the head so that she could get your name and number.

Mornin' folks!

I've been sitting in the back without much to say (that I can really say on here.....)

Tinplate Toddler
Honestly, instead of using that manly fragrance of Old Kerosene, use baby oil and you will get more attention from young girls than your wife will allow you to!

George Burns always suggested: "Be sure to wear a good cologne, a nice aftershave lotion, and a strong underarm deodorant. And it might be a good idea to wear some clothes, too."

Also: "Dress simply. If you wear a dinner jacket, don't wear anything else on it ... like lunch or dinner."

And, of course: "Take care not to wear stripes that are out of sync with your wrinkles."

I gotta get my shower and head over for a 3 mile walk this morning....  Oh Yeah I now have lost another 2 pounds and weigh in at 216!!!  That is 19 lbs less than I weighed when my wife died.....  Had the last of the two treatments to raise my eyebrows (part of the eyelid surgery thing) yesterday.  The old classmate of mine that I was very surprised to see working at the place was not there.  Asked the lady who did the proceedure if my classmate was off yesterday.  She said yes, so I told her that the lady was the cutest and most adorable little redhead in Canandaigua back then.  The lady nodded her head and told me, "She still is!"  So I told her to say hi for me, and then gave her a "Railpass" card I have in my wallet with an invite for the classmate to send me an email if she wants.  I shall see what transpires (I know the lady is widowed and is supposedly divorced from her second husband).

Gotta get moving!  My fitbit is yelling at me! LOL

Hello gang!

I must be too ugly or something! Dianne and I consistently receive lousy service at restaurants (not the Diner of course). Last night we decided to go out for wings. We chose St. Louis Bar and Grill in Bradford. When we walked in the door we were quickly greeted by a friendly young lady and shown to a table on the patio as we had requested. She said our server would be with us "shortly". Fifteen minutes later we were still waiting for our server to come to our table. The place was not busy, and to make matters worse, the person who was apparently serving on the patio had sauntered by us no less than four times without even acknowledging our presence. When I say "sauntered", I mean "sauntered"! If she was in first gear she had to be slipping the clutch. We decided to leave and in doing so we had to walk right past her. She looked at us as though to ask "what's your problem?".AngryAngryAngry

So, we went to another grill, where we got prompt courteous service right up until it was time for the bill. We sat for 15 more minutes after we were done and the plates had been cleared while the dear little blonde server waited on everyone around us but us. I had to stop her and ask for the bill. Then it took another five minutes or so for her to show up with it.AngryAngryGrumpyGrumpy

I tip generously when service is decent. I don't tip when it is not.

Like I said, I'm probably too ugly to expect decent service every time.

Thanks for letting me vent!

Dave

P.S. In fairness to our local Wimpy's restaurant which we visit frequently, the service and the food is always excellent. I guess they're used to my appearance!Smile, Wink & GrinLaughLaugh

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!

Hello Railfans!

I know its been months since Ive been in here, I do hope everyone is doin fine. I sure hope the Pepsi still comes in a frozen pilsner, aye Flo? Sans ice por favor.

For my part, the last 6 months or so has been a total bummer. Both cheeks worth, if I may be so cheeky. Ive lost a gloves worth of family members. Another dog gone job change (and not for the better!). Imstill in a place i had no plan to be in. And if that dont top it all, unbeknownst to me, it seems its my houses turn to host the annual bee/bird population for the entire town.

Now I ask ya, do you really think Dangerfield has anything on me? What really grinds my rubber gears is it took me two minutes to remember how to post a post. Errr, start one rather.

Some folks say ' ya ever have one of them days?'. Around here its lifes instead of days. I tell ya, if the lotto wasnt already rigged against me (and I know its true cuz I NEVER win!) if I did win, I bet my ticket would read I owe them millions!

Amongst the doom and gloom has been a few shiny spots. One of those being.... remember a year ago I mentioned my buddy and boss got himself one of them thar 3d printin deee-vices? Well, now that hes on his 3rd one (yeah, hes a geek, no hes not into trains [dork!]), before he can get another, HIS boss (the wife) said he must rid himself of one, and buy her a new XMas tree.

It wasnt very looooonnngg at all before that first one was sitting purty over at my house. And with a year of tuning and practically replacing 50% of it (yep!), it can produce some nice things. After he went through all that, I wish I had time to mess with it.

On the hobby front: things havent changed. I could set up a small layout but I dont for fear things here could change over night. In lieu of that, and because I still like to collect, I have added a couple cars or locos here and there, but sparcely just to keep my spirits up.

I even tried to get a PM brass loco. I figured whats a caboose without a loco to pull it, right? Alas, my bid was ' juuuusssst a bit outside '. I swear, I could be the only polar bear in a grizzly bear ensemble.

Railfanning: I actually caught myself honking back at a train blowing for a crossing. The road was parallel to the tracks!

The only trains i get to see are through glass. Not that of a camera lense mind you but my window as i mutter on to work and back. Now its not the local trainmasters fault for not running as many trains as I would like, theres just no way he could know I dont have a layout.

Well, thats about it folks. You can see it isnt 'always sunny in Canton'. Unless your talkin weather. Im not kidding, this place could be a beach if it werent for the fact its mountains. So I havent had much time to amble by. Hope yall are well!

Yall take care now!
