GOOD MORNING!
Everybody get up there's trains to run!
This mornings special is Cajun Roast Beef with Swiss and Provolone on French Bread.
Out and about early this morning, gotta return the rental car, tomorrow we'll go get the van from the dealership.
Ken, I just checked the tracking, seems USPS hasn't done anything with it yet, at least they haven't updated the tracking info, thank you again for your generosity.
Well I'll be lingering in the corner (possibly asleep) if anyone needs me.
Steve
If everything seems under control, you're not going fast enough!
Ken, how about the longest passenger car?
Ken I hope the package you sent me doesn't have some of Sparky's special in it!
I have officially earned the status of "redneck" literally after two days of being in the sun my neck is sorta a redder shade of Oxide Brown.
My phone battery has its days numbered, I charge it up if I barely use it it loses charge like there ain't no tomorrow.
Layout building, trying to "con"vince () the powers that be to let me do a 8x16 building, I went to HD and looked at a 8x12 building, the height is too short for me but the size is pretty good.
I may not be able to spend money on trains but I can do some "marketing" I'm trying to get a website up and running for my railroad.
Well I better go to bed before I fall over.
Evening Diners
Flo give some of the gang a Give Rick what he wants and give this box to Steven, it is a Sparkie Dog Speical I picked up from the yard! Yes leave a Stein outside for Ulrich.
Short Train Jokes yes they are funny and I don't really mind. Good chances I will be buying these in the next 2 days off I have.
I am beat, so later
I hate Rust
Evening diners,
SPECIAL NEWS BULLETIN:
The Union Pacific announced a round of budget cuts to compete with the Santa Fe's new downsized fleet.
In other news, in anticipation of the new 2020 Ford Bronco, Buffalo Bills Custom Trucks announced that they will be releasing an autographed O.J. Simpson Edition Bronco available in one color, WHITE!
(If you haven't figured it out that all is a load of bushwa, as in horse hockey.)
Anyways, I hope to buy some lumber for my train building.
Not much going on I'll be back later.
Good evening Diners,
Brunhilda, I'll have an Earl Grey tea with cream and honey, please.
Wow! Those chop jobs give new meaning to the term shorty passenger cars.
Not much happening except the weather. It is supposed to snow, but all we've gotten so far is misty rain, which would be snow if it was any colder. So much fotr spring!
Steve O: that Tex-Mex platter looked delicious. Do you remember what the combo was, or was that a stock photo?
Nothing to report MRR wise.
Hello to everyone, and I hope everyone is OK, safe, and warm.
Jim (with a nod to Mies Van Der Rohe)
Flo' I'll have a piece of key lime pie. A local restaurant served me what they called key lime pie, it was cheesecake with a slice of lime on top.
It was too cold today to work outside, where I wanted to work on the layout turntable. This is all I have to add today, a pic of a 1984 railfan trip (found it, I wasn't there)

Good sunny morning from the left side of the continent. Definitely "T" shirt weather today.
Steven Otte Brent, when are you going to tell us "the kid"'s name? Every time you mention him working on some TV project or movie, it's usually something I've seen, so I go to IMDB.com and look at the credits to see if I can figure out which part he's playing. But so far I have yet to find any name in common between the credits of the movies and shows you've mentioned. So either he's operating anonymously or he needs a better publicist.

Steven, at some point I hope to be able to post his name and pic's but he signs a contract on every project that is as thick as a telephone book. The "none disclosure agreement" is enforced beyond belief. On every project he has worked on they have fired people for violating it and they don't work again. I won't do anything to jeopardize his position. We had to read the riot act to certain "extended" family members that are no longer getting to know what is going on.
He has appeared as (uncredited) on IMDB for every project he has done, however after a couple of weeks his name is removed for some reason. A co-worker told him that if you don't join the Pro-boards and pay the annual membership you get deleted, who knows. It is only a summer job for him and he gets full employment so he doesn't need to promote himself as he doesn't plan to make a career out of it. He has shown up on some of the behind the scenes production photo's online and some of his friends have put those on Facebook, however, he quickly removes them from his page as it violates the agreement having his name tagged to the photo.
A couple of people he knew put you-tube clips up on Facebook and said here is me in such and such. They were fired immediately from their current project and won't work again. They were getting paid good money and gave it up for a few minutes of Facebook fame. This girl he knows forfeited her entire paycheck for a months work for violating the contract. They are ruthless when it comes to enforcing the "NDA".
He has only worked as an extra but has developed some good relationships quickly with people in the production end of things. They have asked him if he would be interested in doing work on the production side of the camera if he isn't needed in front of the camera on certain days. It is all more work for him. Getting coffee for the director pays well. He took out a one year lease with a friend on a house in Ottawa starting in September when he goes back to University. Livin the good life while at school. This is likely his last Summer of being a movie star.
His first movie of the Summer he is doing is a low budget Christmas movie. It alone will more than cover the one year lease on the house. He worked on "Wonder", "The Predator" and "Deadpool 2" all big budget stuff. This is the first "El cheapo" he is doing but will likely get at least $5000.00 a week, more if he does production work. All I know about it is they are taking him out of town for the shoot, I don't know where.
Went and picked up the wife and trailer at the dog show late Monday, she had been there six days. I arrived to find the entire (acres) parking lot under about 4" of water. I was glad I wore my boots. The drive home was horrendous.
I will be spending the afternoon putting my neighbours lawn tractor back together. Don't know how I get myself into these things. It broke and he asked me to look at it and by the time I left, it was in pieces in his garage. He got the new parts and now I need to put it all back together. He is elderly so I guess I don't really mind.
Beers all round on me, I'll join you if and when I get done.
All the best to all.
Brent

When all else fails, wing it!
Went to the club, the present members had a discussion on the greatly contested topic of track cleaning, we are considering trying an ultra fine abrasive to polish the rails in one area to see if it works.
Today I was in the sun all day pressure washing, with a rented machine of course, the surface cleaner I was using (my personal machine) broke and I had to rent one, the rental didn't work as it was supposed to. So tomorrow I have to do some more, ahh well.
Ken, I saw your PM, thanks again!
Those pictures aren't mine I just found them online,

Flo, Ed, Brent, Jan and I will have a please and the rest of the diners can Bite Me! Ok, not really mad.
Steven Hum, if you posted thoes photos before I sent the package? Well I may have dropped in a few iteams as fillers! Sent you a PM with the tracking number.
Steve O Sorry about posting the "Whats Neat In Model Railing with Ken Patterson". I forgot it was backed by a Magazine.
Work Front Boy am I glad this day is over! It was rough one! Problem customers from the other guys that cover my day off!
Later, Ken
Day after day, more and more news come my way.
So, my F3A kit got pushed back to an unknown date. Yippee...
And, I don't know when my C&O 10-6 is shipping. Woohoo...
But,
THE CITY OF LOS ANGELES IS THE NEW WALTHERS NAME TRAIN!
https://www.walthers.com/products/name-trains/city-of-los-angeles/
I did not expect the COLA. I though that maybe another Santa Fe train? Or maybe even the Sunset Limited? But, I'm not too mad.
If anything, I'm ecstatic! My grandma used to live on a hill in East Los Angeles overlooking Union Station, so she fondly remembers seeing 'The Union Pacific' go by every day. Maybe this could spark a memory or two with her.
Also, I find it funny that the week or two that Walthers dropped the bomb on this, Kato reissued their N Scale COLA with new E9's. And even funnier; I though about putting together a City Of... train using what ever I could find in various train shows and eBay.
The Capitol Limited needs to step aside.
I'm being specific and going Union Pacific!
(until i change my mind again)
The Santa Fe engine was something I did decades go when I was about 13 or 14. I recall an article (I think in MR) on how to kitbash 2 F7's into an E8. ... It was before Rivarrosi produced its first E8 models, and there were no mass produced E8's available in HO. Honestly, the E8 project was one I messed up badly. I made this thing from scrap pieces of that project. ... The short Piker passenger car was an old Walthers kit with wood and metal parts, and I built it back then. ....
Steven NWP SWP .... It looks like people are having fun with photo-shop.
Steve O .... That's what I can call it. .... Selective compresion...

Ken .... LOL .... Just razzing you a bit !

Eveing Folks!
Flo, give the gang and I a and yes the smart aleck Gary one as well! Give Rick and Steven what they want and leave a stein outside for Ulrich.
Gary Very funny, buy the passangers cars I want and cut them in half! Ok, it was funny but you must have been bored!
Work Front Another good day, seems tax taxes are a little late this year. $3500.00 in sales sure helps!
Steven I know what you mean about folks not understanding about be a Modle Train Person. My car friends thought spending $10,000.00 on a Supercharged 440 that made 689 HP was a great idea! Now this was a street engine not a races engine! You should have seen there faces when they came over and saw my layout taking up the garage!
These are folks that think nothing on spending $2500.00 on a new set of heads and cam to go 0 to 100 mph in 1.8 seconds faster than before for a street car. Yes I was one of them. But why would I bulid a train layout that I could not drive?
Later Ken
Good late evening all.
Zoe - Just a RBF please. Thanks.
Trains update - Finally got into the steam loco I was given. The bad news, it has the old open frame motor.
The worse news, the magnets are shot.
Unsure at this point if I will replace the magnets and then check power draw, and if acceptable add a decoder, or if I will just yank the worm gear and make her a dummy for now.
Or just bite the bullet and repower. Eventually.
I'm leaning towards dummy to be repowered eventually, but am curious about replacing the magnets... If I turn her into a dummy unit, she would have to lead, as the pilot is scale, with no room for a functioning coupler. (At least without major reworking of the pilot.)
On more train stuff - I think the industrial building will get painted prior to assembly, as it will be easier to handle that way.
Yes, I know that makes it tougher on assembly, and will possibly require touch-ups in a couple places, but it will be way easier to paint in sections than assembled. (I looked at the sizes with a small test section, just held in place by hand. It will be tough to airbrush once assembled.)
That just means I need this weather to start cooperating prior to moving forward much more.
Weather - Still snowing. So, no painting in the garage right now. (Snow outside means it's a bit chilly in the garage....)
Steven NWP- Ok. Not much can be done on that issue at this point. Just concearned that doing a whole seperate building might be biting off a bit much, as they say... Make sure all your ducks are in a row before starting anything on that building. Permits, inspections, and all the required pre-planning and a hard set of plans, along with the correct budget for it.
Everyone have a good night!

My Railroad rules:
1: It's my railroad, my rules.
2: It's for having fun and enjoyment.
3: Any objections, consult above rules.
I worked on my grandpa's pressure washer today, gassed it up, the fuel line was rotted out, had to scrounge around the shop to find a "replacement", rigged it up well enough for it to run, it ran until it ran out of gas, gassed it up again went to start it up, snapped the starter cord, replaced it with a length of paracord, couldn't get it started so I gave up for the day.
Nothing to report on the modeling front because of the embargo on railroad spending that the Joint Chiefs have instituted. Best course of action right now is to keep quiet about it and build a building when I can. At least I still get my Model Railroader and I get to go to the railroad club.
Here's some southern railroad action.
Evening All!
Hobby Front: The day that I have been dreading may have come: Moving the layout. I think I can move part of it to my bedroom. (Would need to do some rearranging.) Most likely I could move the new yard pieces (which aren't even completely assembled), corner section and the turntable/car shop in without a problem. (Getting them into town: Esto es un caballo de un color diferente. For those that don't speak Spanish, that translates to: That is a horse of a different color.) I would also like to move the car ferry yard/lake but I will have to some more measuring. I would also have to do a little bit more building to make a corner. I would need to get some levelers as the floor has a bit of a slope to it. (Already found online.)
We shall see but it doesn't look promising.
Rick, their exact words are, No layout or train related spending until you have a building for it, period. So no small layout. But I'm working on saving money and buying wood for a building so it'll work itself out.
Good evening all.
Zoe - A nice plate of some of the BBQ Bourbon chicken, with smashed taters and corn please, along with a Coke. Thanks.
Steven - Are your parents even opposed to a smaller sized layout? Like a shelf style switching layout? I know it's not what you were hoping for, but even a small layout is better than no layout. Trust me, I know...
Weather - Freezing rain on Sat night - Sun morning, then rain last night, now snow today. I'm beginning to get tired of this weather now...
W*^k - Inventory took longer than expected... That was irritating.
Trains - Moving a few things around, and will be arranging to place the industry building foundation and spur soon.
Hope all are well, and all enjoy the evening!
Hi all,
Flo, I'll have a cup of coffee to go. Gotta get back to work in a few.
Well, I just found out that my prospective train room is going to be the only reliably dry room in my basement. After an ice storm the past two days and a day of rain here in sunny Buffalo, I've got an inch of water in my laundry room and workshop, which are on either end of the train room. But the trainroom's dry as a church during prohibition (not counting the communion wine).
Best part is, this never happened before. We used to have floor drains, which handled any water that got in, so instead of puddles, we'd have a narrow rivulet of water from the drain tiles to the drain. But the Town, in their infinite wisdom, decided that those are now verboten and made us cap them. No reason why, just "That's the code now, so you gotta do it." So now - water where once there was none. Thanks, building inspectors!
Did I mention they gave us the list of "official" contractors to choose from for the job?
Okay, rant over. Back to work, then after that, off to find a suitable bucket (or floor pump). Enjoy the day, all!
Ed ... Good suggestion to Steven NWP SWP ..... Kalmbach has a lot more promtional material with the theme, "World's Greatest Hobby" .... Perhaps more of it can be accessed to help out.
Also Ed .... I like the interior of the L&N observation car. .... I sure do miss pre-Amtrak passenger trains.
Here is an L&N heavyweight observation at the KY Ry Museum
NWP SWPmy parents don't understand the whole thing about model railroading,
There was a pretty decent introductory video hosted by Michael Gross called Model Citizens but I can only find it on Amazon Prime.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4985564/?ref_=nv_sr_3
Would your parents be willing to spend a few minutes to learn about all the opportunities this great hobby offers and watch a few videos on the subject?
Might be worth a try?
Thanks for the java and pecan roll, Garry! I'll take mine back to this comfortable chair on the L&N's observation car "Royal Street" named after that famous New Orleans thoroughfare!

High of 36° today and... more snow for NE Ohio! The Web is acting goofy this morning
Cheers, Ed
Good morning, everybody .... ...... Coffee and a pecal roll, please ..
Good morning, err late night,
Henry, don't worry, I completely understand, my stagnation has gotten annoying even to me, my parents don't understand the whole thing about model railroading, this makes my attempts at the hobby VERY difficult, the whole situation should solve itself once I get a building for trains built.
Anyways, I'll have the Cajun Roast Beef and Provolone sandwich, a glass of half and half with it please.
We bought a new weed eater today, got a brush blade set instead of string, makes life much easier, did all the areas that have gotten overgrown.
Well its late so gotta head out, goodnight everyone.
