Hello to all.

Brother Otte, over the last couple of weeks I've noticed that my browser took a long time to connect to the site, but after that it was fine.  Since you told us you did an upgrade, I'm happy to say everything is fine now.  Thanks.

Dave, how about a fictitious hockey equipment factory. Plastic pellet cars for making pads and lumber cars for the sticks, boxcars out with the finished product

Ontario has had its' share of makers of sports equipment for sure. Hillerich and Bradsby has been in the Chatham area for decades. CCM was also quite an operation.

Good morning from the warm, sunny West end of the continent. Currently 15c.

Steven good start on the painting, we have all been there. Practice will make perfect, I can attest to that. I got really good with the spray cans and then had to learn all over again when I got my airbrush. There were some ups and downs with that, now I feel really confident when I pull it out. Learning new things is what I really love about the hobby.

Good to see you are getting lumber for the train building. Would it be better to save up and buy it all at once? Lumber doesn't take kindly laying around and you may find it frustrating matching up new lumber with stuff that has aged in your backyard.

One thing I learned about building models over fifty years ago was, having "get doneitis", is something that needs to be rained in. The more detailed the kit, the more patience required.

Steven Otte, when the kid did Legion, he spent part of the day working with a group that was supposed to be part of Davids ongoing hallucinations. The rest of the day he worked one on one with Dan Stevens getting in his face as a solo hallucination. At the time he was told it would just be used as quick flashes of him hallucinating, however, we have not seen any of that yet. Like I said the editors have not been kind to him. At the time they did ask if he would be available if they wanted more of his charming monster face. The stuff he did was supposed to be used for more than one season, though I have not seen any of the hallucinations that were used in season one in season two.

The series got a huge tax credit from California and moved there for season two. They will likely return if they don't get it in season three if there is a season three.

Day two of the shoot, yesterday he was on set for 17 hours. He had to do a dance number with 10 other people and has blisters galore. He can dance as well as I can flap my arms and fly. He said learning the choreography was easier than he thought it would be. You can tell it is a low budget movie if he is doing dance routines.Laugh

He has had beers with the cast and crew in the hotel pub both nights and is learning a lot as it is all shop talk.

Dave, how about a fictitious hockey equipment factory. Plastic pellet cars for making pads and lumber cars for the sticks, boxcars out with the finished product. It could be called                      "humboldt hockey equipment".

Tape measures and laptops are all over the house now. You just keep buying tape measures until you don't need to look for one anymore. Two kids getting new laptops in school every two years has the old ones within easy reach no matter where you are in the house.Laugh

Well, best get at it, I have so many projects on the go I don't know where to start. I hate that as I tend to be a very methodical person. The wife is painting like crazy to sell. I wonder how she will feel when they bulldoze the house for the new High School.Indifferent

It's noon most places, the Sun is over the yardarm. First round on me.

All the best to all.

Brent

Dave ..... Did your club decide on some indusries for its layout?... I think you got good responses in your thread with that topic ... Did you find the old tape measures yet? LOL

Hi Garry:

We haven't made any decisions yet. It's still very much in the discussion stage. I went through the Walthers catalogue and printed pictures of about 25 different buildings in various catagories like mining, pulp/paper/lumbering, packing plant/agricultural, factories etc. My next project is to do a spread sheet using the excellent suggestions made in the thread as to what types of loads each of the various industries would ship and receive. Then, when I sit down with the members, I can say this is the industry(s) and this what we can do with it (them).

Here is the thread if anyone is interested:

Good morning everybody ....

I'll have coffee and a bear claw, please ....

Steven NWP SWP ..... The hopper weights look good. .... I wish the manufacturers of HO hopper cars would paint the weights at the factories so we would not have to paint them. .... It is good to see you are working on fun projects like the hopper car.

Ken ..... I'm trying to recall what you said recently about Bachmann paswnegercars. Did you say you have some lettered for PRR ?

Dave ..... Did your club decide on some indusries for its layout?... I think you got good responses in your thread with that topic ... Did you find the old tape measures yet? LOL

Ricky .... That was definately "One of those days". .... Murphy's Law on effect.

Everybody : .... Have a great Wednesday ...

Evening diners,

Dave, there's three reasons for the thick paint, 1 when I went to take the cap off I accidentally broke off the nozzle so I kinda had to make do, 2 I was in a hurry I wanted to get it done, and three I did two coats.

But yes I will do lighter coats come model painting time.

The CoG hopper has the weights on the bottom so I had to paint them how does it look?

Looks pretty good Steven!

May I make a suggestion regarding spray painting? It looks to me like you sprayed the weights in one heavy coat. It seems to have worked because I don't see any runs or blobs on the weights, but if you want to use a rattle can to paint car bodies you will have to use a much gentler approach. Otherwise, you will probably end up with blobs and runs of paint where the excess has accumulated, and you will probably fill in a lot of the details.

I would suggest that you apply the paint in several thin coats. Don't simply point the spray can directly at the object. Start spraying off to one side and make a 'pass' over the car body so that relatively little paint is applied. You may have to make the pass fairly quickly given the volume of paint that some spray cans put out. Also, do it from about 10" - 12" away from the target.

Let the first coat 'flash off'. In other words, let the solvents evaporate so the paint looks dry before applying the second coat. Then apply another light coat.... and so forth. It may take three or four coats to get enough depth of colour, but if you apply the paint in light coats you will not bury the details in blobs of paint.

Make no mistake, the process is easy to describe but not quite so easy to carry out. It takes some practise and some patience. Remember - quick light coats from a reasonable distance, and let each coat flash off before applying the next.

Cheers!!

Dave

Ken..   I know what you mean about misplacing things such as your Kadee Couplers. Sometimes I give up, and don’t find what I am looking for until I’m looking for something else I misplaced. LOL .

Garry:

I had to buy a tape measure today. I couldn't find any of mine (I think I have three!) Buying another one will guarantee the others will turn up in the next few days.Smile, Wink & GrinLaugh Even if they do show up they won't get much use. The new Dewalt 25'/8m tape is much sturdier than anything I had.

Good evening all.

Zoe - I will take a nice slice of that apple pie, with some vanilla ice cream on top, and a Coke please. Thanks!

Congrats (belated) to ROR's prettier half.

Steven NWP - Nice job matching the paint color! Looks great to me. The Bowser open hopper kits I have, the weights are also located outside, but mine were super easy to match, as the hopper cars are black.

And, congrats to Howmus on the weight loss!

Ken - Yep... I know what it's like to have a few too many rolling stock items on the layout... I have a unit coal drag long enough, that, if I wanted, could run around my current main line and play "chase its tail" pretty well. And I have enough intermodal well cars and spine cars, that, if I wanted, I could stretch them all around said mainline, coupled together, no problems. Now, other rolling stock, I only have a few, or even just one or two.

When the new layout gets built, I will have close to tripple mainline length, so, I just am using the excuse that I have been getting a head start on the needed rolling stock for the bigger layout. Whistling

Train front - Ever had one of "those" days? With the warmer weather I attempted to do a primer coat on some of the structure kit I'm working on. First thing I did was plug in my spray booth, and air compressor. They both worked, then suddenly I heard "zzzzzttt", and silence.

So, I checked everything, and had zero power.

So, out came an extension cord, to the other power outlet, and everything worked well.

Next, I pulled out my new name brand airbrush, and the trouble continued. I got a single primer coat on the parts I had ready, and when I went to remove the primer bottle, to place on it the cleaner bottle, the primer bottle nub snapped off.... Inside the airbrush.... Bang Head Bang Head Bang Head

So, I disassembled everything I could, and placed all the parts in a bucket of soapy water, (that I always have around when airbrushing, as I use acrylic's, and often will unscrew the cleaner bottle when empty and siphon up some soapy water before placing it on a plain water bottle.) and spent the next 25 minutes cleaning everything and prying that bottle nub out of my airbrush.

Yep... One of "those" days alright!

So, I quit while I was ahead, don't want to cause my spray booth to explode or something next!

Weather - Yesterday, it was warm, and sunny. We hit 79F, and it was gorgeous. Today, 61F and rainy, but still, much better than the cold and snow we've had for a while. Spent some time yesterday railfanning, just so I could enjoy the weather!

W*^k - People were grumpy today, so that made for a very long day.

Hope all are well, and all have a great evening!

The paint is Kylon "Red Oxide Primer" so I figured it would matchLaugh

Next project, finish some more kits, and equip all cars with metal wheels and resistors.

Jim,

Yes you can still get RTR tapes. either via the Bay or new from suppliers. Maxell, Quantegy etc. That beast left the house yesterday. Now on to a 1938 Zenith ( almost done).  I jump from one electronics era to another... People keep calling, its been 12 years since I started doing this for others and have always had something on the bench.

What's that about, well I set out to assemble some kits today, completed the MILW boxcar Accurail kit, and worked on the NYC gondola Proto2000 kit Ed gave me, those P2k kits havery SOOOOO MANY detail parts! I did the basics I'll finish it when I feel better and have some more patience.

Ken, I'll take whatever you are willing to give, I'm not choosy, thanks again to you and Ed for the help.

Well I'm heading to Wally World for some paint, I loathe going to Wally World, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

BTW I signed up for Merriam-Websters "Word of the Day" today's is "loathe"

I'll be in and out today, later.

BATMAN

Steven Otte, Have you seen "The Man In The High Castle" on Amazon TV? I think you would really like it judging by your taste.

I have not. It's on my list of things to watch, but there are so many things on that list that it's at the priority level of "Would have to win the lottery first." Most of what I do make time for are superhero shows (it's ridiculous that there are 9 of those now, 4 of which we watch and 2 of which we DVR to watch during summer hiatus, not even counting Netflix series), sitcoms, late-night talk shows, and news. Is the kid in Legion again this season? That's one of our DVR-for-later series.

Flo, the gang and I will have a Beer please. Given Rick and Steven what they like and leave a Stein outside for Ulrich.

Kid and Brent Yep I got to do something with all this stuff!  I am to the point I have no real idea of what I have! Whistling I know I have some of the miss guied Tyco and Life Like Pan Cake engines I bought off E-Stupid. I am guessing around 40 Tyco rolling stock under the layout that still have Targo Trucks.

What has really got me POed is I cannot find what I need to fix what I have! Bang Head Case in point. I know I have a bottle of Kadee Couplers and I cannot find them! Bang Head Reason I am not working on the Bachmann Pullmans right now! Sigh

Good evening Diners,

Brunhilde, I'll have an Earl Grey tea with cream and honey, please.

Moelarrycurley:  Aye, how thar's a tape deck!  Kind of reminds me of my playing days when everyone who had any money was buying a Teac 4-track machine. But I digress.  I bet it has good sound, but is tape even available for those anymore?

I took a DA grab iron and fit it through the holes  in my drill guide.  It fit really well, which  makes me wonder about the size of cast on BB locomotive grabs.  I suspect the cast on grabs are 17" and the DA wire grabs are 18".  Can anyone verify this and which size is correct?

Hello to everyone, and I hope everyone is OK, safe, and warm.

Less is more,...more or less!

Evening diners,

Today was a MISERABLE day, why you ask? Well on Saturday I was doing some singing for my family, and I overstrained my voice so I have all the symptoms of a cold.

On the bright side me and my brother swapped out the tires on the little mower for some bigger ones, then we cut the "swamp" or "baseball field" we used to play baseball there but for the past few years it's been really wet like a swamp.

I'm going to work on some kits this week, I'll post some pictures in the photo threads.

BATMAN
The (blurry) kid is at the 12 second mark in a yellow jumpsuit.

Is this a non-credited part, or if we wait through the end of the movie will we see his name next to "(blurry) kid at 12 second mark" played by Batman, Jr.?

He did a lot in his three weeks. They even spent about two hours shooting just him and another guy in a scene. They did three different versions of it. The editors have not been kind to him so far in anything he has done so we are not holding our breath. Getting a screen credit pays a lot more so they tend not to hand them out if they don't need to.

He also worked directly with Ryan Renolds in some shots over a few days and had a lot of fun.

As I type this he is giving me a play by play of the rehearsal he is doing for tomorrows shoot. He was up at 0500hrs today and they expect to be done at midnight. Apparently, there are lots of animals involved in this movie. Having a Vet for a Mom must give him a slight advantage as he spent lots of time at the Hospital helping out.

He has a hotel suite to himself in a pretty decent hotel, the same one that the stars of the movie are at. He gets a good size food allowance on top of his pay, the funny thing is, he eats on set as the food is excellent so he will likely come home with an extra $1000.00 in his pocket.

Sent my airbrush back to Badger and they are taking their time.  Last time I had it back in a week.  I think we are going on 3 weeks, called Friday and the tech said I was 198 and he was on the 170's but might get to it Friday or today.

Meanwhile I bought a cheap HF airbrush so I could paint some walls.  It's hard to to adjust, yet it runs through the paint faster than I would expect.  Nothing fits the Badger jars or hoses.

Edit forgot, what I really wanted to post.  A vintage NS train on Horseshoe Curve today.  Don't know anything about it, blast from the past.

. . .Richard, do you ever want to be able to take the foam off the wall? Construction adhesive will take the wall with it if you ever try and pull it off. . .

Nope, this is relatively permanent. I had some plumbing work done and they had to cut some holes in the drywall. I have the cutout pieces and need to re-mount them. I have a bunch of 1/2" foam laying around so I am going to use the foamboard to glue some braces to the back of the wall, then glue the drywall cutouts to the braces.

It is 17c on the West Coast with sunshine for the foreseeable future. Been getting the yard recovered from winter with a lot of reseeding of the lawn being done. For some reason, it took a real beating this year.

MoeLarry, that is some reel to reel. We had one almost as big in the 1960s/70s. When our crawlspace recently flooded I found a big tupperware full of tapes from back then. It will be me and the boys singing and playing in various forms of music groups. We weren't too bad for kids if I do say myself. I need to find an old RTR so I can listen one more time.Headphones

Had a call from a developer wanting to make an offer on the house, we said sure, he said it is just a starting point, we will probably laugh him out of the house as we have a really good offer already from an investor. We aren't in any hurry and the offers will keep coming I'm sure.

My neighbour gave me a couple of bottles of pretty nice wine for helping him out with his lawn tractor, they went down nicely.

Ken, you need to start building display shelves for all that extra rolling stock you have. When they aren't in view we tend to forget what we have.Whistling

Got the kid on his way to his out of town movie shoot. It is on Vancouver Island, they loaded up coaches and took the ferry over. He sat with some of the directors and was offered spots on future jobs this Summer. This production company has 39 projects between now and the middle of July so it looks like he is set. He contacted me from the ferry and I had to go online to fill out forms for the company for him. It took me 3 hours. KIDS!

There is a new Deadpool 2 trailer out. It has some off colour language in it so I won't post it. But here is a link.

Just about quittin time for you guys in the far East, so let me buy the first round.Beer Cheers!

Just about time for lunch for me, I don't think I will get much done today, but that's okay.

All the best to all.
