My condolences to you and your family as well, LION. I hope you are able to take a nice subway ride soon to soothe your well being.
Feeling a loss over the tragic events with the Humboldt Hockey team, too.
Thanks for the treats, Bear!
Now where did I put my wallet??!!
Just use one of those bitcoins I hear so much about (and have NO clue as to what they're all about ).

If everything seems under control, you're not going fast enough!
My condolences to you, Brother Lion.
Hobby Front: I may finally get my lumber cut on Monday. When the new sections actually go into service, (Only the shadow knows...)
Finally starting to get more vehicles purchased. However, I have to wait until it warms up more to get weathering paint. Still a little chilly to order paint via the Internet.

Bother Ellis Sorry to hear about your Mom, she must have had a good life with a son like you.
Sad to hear about the hockey team. Payers for the ones that lost a child.
Steven, Rick was right. I did not mail the package, if it could not be delivered I would loss the shipping cost. Now that I have your last name I just might beable to get it out Monday or Tuesday.
Ed Guessing it was maybe a year ago I was asking about a Stripping Tool and you had one. Can you post the link again? I need to get this wiring mess done with!
Gary Great photo!
Turnout Question. If I want to run bigger engines that need a 22" radius what sizes Atlas Turnout do I need so the turnout radius is 22" inches? I think most of mine are 8's. Have not bought a turnout for gosh, 7 years?
Trains are running well so today was not a total lost.

Evening diners,
Ken, call me slow on the uptake
Went to the club operating session today. Ran the Zwolle-Rapides Turn, everything went smooth till me and another guy headed northbound approached Pleasant Hill where two guys were working their respective trains and there were three more guys headed southbound awaiting the whole mess to clear up, the guy in front of me managed to get through and do the work he needed and head north, the other guy got his work done and headed south, I came in did my work by hand (the club presidents orders to get the jam up cleared) I entered the branch and the other guys must've figured their stuff out, it was a dispatchers nightmare!
cudakenEd Guessing it was maybe a year ago I was asking about a Stripping Tool and you had one. Can you post the link again?
To pick out a wire stripper for you, Ken, would be like me choosing a toothbrush for you. I have different strippers for layout work, decoder work, teflon signal wires, house wiring, automobile wiring, LED wiring, PC board work and a bunch of "throw-aways" I keep around for less demanding work.
One size does not fit all.
I think the one in the thread we were discussing was the Ideal Stripmaster.
https://tinyurl.com/y9wrp288
There is one for 10 to 22 gauge and another one for 16 to 24. It is handy but bulky. I don't use it for everything.
This one is an inexpensive but clean-cutting stripper for fine (16 to 26) wire:
https://tinyurl.com/y9h2tnlu
Hakko makes three different styles but they are all small and lightweight. Comfortable in the hand.
Some of my other ones are Ideal like these:
https://tinyurl.com/y86aqfcm
They are good quality but since the handles seem to be larger they are not the most comfortable in my hands.
As you can see, I shop at Amazon. You can probably find the same strippers locally.
I hope you find one you like!
Cheers, Ed
Bro. Elias, so sorry for your loss! Life has a nasty habit of doing things like this to us. I wish you the strength to get through it without suffering too much pain.
Dave
I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
Ed:
I just ordered one of the fine gauge wire strippers. I should have ordered one years ago. Thanks for the push!
Brother Lion - do not mourn. Rather, celebrate a life well lived.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
Misery loves company, Dave!
I just ordered one of these to see if it really works well on teflon wire!

I don't know how the price works out for Canada but for $15. I'll give it a shot
Did your Schwinn arrive? There was an article in the Washington Post today about the increased popularity of e-bikes.

Good evening ....
My Santa Fe E6a and E6b are now operating ..... I'm thinking of imstalling a brighter headlight. Other than that, I'm happy with it.
gmpullmanI just ordered one of these to see if it really works well on teflon wire!
I noticed that the demonstration video shows the operator with the wire wrapped around his finger, and it seems to take a pretty good pull to get the insulation to part company. I'd be concerned about using one on a wire that is soldered to a decoder, or anything else for that matter. Anyhow, that is just speculation. Let us know how it works.
gmpullmanDid your Schwinn arrive? There was an article in the Washington Post today about the increased popularity of e-bikes.
The Schwinn arrived two weeks ago but it has been too cold and windy to ride it. I have been around the block but I discovered a bit of a problem. Over the years my feet have twisted enough that I had troubles keeping them on the pedals. My toes point to the outside which causes my heels to hit the pedal cranks. Twisting my feet back in the right direction has proven to be rather difficult and uncomfortable. I'm considering trying a pair of rat trap pedals with the toe clips like the racers use so I can force my feet to twist inward without having to use so much effort. If that doesn't work I'll just have to keep looking like a very awkward cyclist until I can re-train my feet to cooperate. I also have to play with the seat height a bit in order to get my legs more fully extended.
I'm not going to invest in a motor assist, at least not for the moment. Doing the work myself was the whole idea behind getting the trike.
Thanks for asking.
I can strip decoder wire just fine, especially the silicone stuff. Teflon! Now there's the rub! I'll let you know. Teflon is tenacious, will not burn, really tough to strip.
IIRC I ordered larger peddles for my trike. I see there are lots of options!
https://tinyurl.com/y9f86tww
I like the clip/socket idea better than the rat (lobster?) cage. It is still snowing in Ohio, too. 22 F (-6) last night here. Certainly NOT bike weather! Brrr.
OK, we now return the thread to our regular programming!
Garry, LOVE your E units! I have a E6 in B&O. I think BLI has the EA now. I'm tempted
Sorry... Ed
gmpullmanIIRC I ordered larger peddles for my trike. I see there are lots of options!
I just ordered a relatively cheap set through Amazon. We will see if they do the trick.
Cheers!!
Good morning all,
I spent a lot of yesterday sorting resistors and placing them in envelopes so I can easily find the ones I want for various electronics projects.
I bought one of those "super assortments " that they all came jumbled in a box. Today is "put new radiator hoses on the car" day. It is 41 degrees outside.I won't freeze too bad. I also will change out the thermostat as well.
I will have a PHilly Cheese steak for lunch please.
Hard part done, radiator hoses changed and car antifreeze filled back up.
Now I need to find an antifreeze recycler. Now on to new motor mounts.
Brother Lion,
Your family is in our prayers. 95 is a good run though. More than I or most people will see.
Since we are in the Deep South I'll confess my nom de guerre comes from Burl Ives, character in the movie Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.
Ives kept a sailboat in Annapolis and a friend of mine crewed for him when he came to town driving his Cord. Another friend of mine crewed for Walter Cronkite. Aside from the home of the Naval Academy, and being next to the Chesapeake Bay, it hardly deserves it's reputation as a sailing mecca. The wind is rather poor during much of the summer.

Hobby Front: It happened. Won't be til Tuesday that I can cut the lumber. Mom has to go out of town. Oh, well. Will get some other hobby-related things done. The only thing that this change will foul up was the plan to get a haircut on Tuesday. (Barber not open on Monday.)
Evenin' folks!
Janie, I could use a refill for my decaf, please....
Rather cold outside here in the Finger Lakes Region today... I guess Mother Nature hasn't figured out it is Spring yet... Made it to church this morning. Our pastor (Deb) took the week off to visit her family in the midwest, so one of my students from way back filled in this morning. I used to date his mother about 20 years ago....LOL He did a great job as always. He is on the National Hymnal Committee for my demomination among other things.... His wife and small son sat right in front of us as usual. Awfully cute little kid!
I ordered a new Dumbell set today. I'm planning on starting to work out some of the arm and shoulder muscles to get the tone back. Will need to be careful of my Spinal Stenosis in the back so no Barbell lifting. Will be setting up a time to get together with the lady I have mentioned before, probably when I see her on Tuesday. I have decided to choose an old standard of a local place for lunch. Hope it goes over well with her.
Have a great night out there, and prayers for those in need (which is all of us most likely!).

Flo, give me a keg of with a straw, get the gang what they want.
Been a Kind Of Day.
Got home with hight hopes to work on some of the engines! First thing was to read the decoder address of a Mono F-3. Set the PR3 to stand a lone and things went down hill from there! Program and Oprations mode was not highted. Try to go back to SEB setting and got a blank screen so to speak. Did not list the optons for Super Cheif, Zepher and Super Empire Bulider? System restore and JMRI would still not work with the PR3!
Ok, I will use the DT-400 It started to work then died? Pulled the clip out of the PR 3, cleaned the clip with CRC and hooked up to the SEB and thank goodess I have running trains again. There is way more to the story and I spent a hour plus messing with it!
Checked E-Mail next Hum seems my Amercan Express Card has been Cannaclled? Problem is I DON"T HAVE ONE! banghead]
I have had worst days but this one is in the Top 15!
Watched both the Nascar race and the Masters this afternoon and tonight. Had to tape the later. I enjoyed both. I played a little golf in high school and stunk. I missed the whole Tiger Woods thing, but as a kid watched Palmer, Nicholas, Player and Trevino all the time. When did drivers get so big? They looked like 1/2 a cantolope on the end of the shaft.
Somewhere along the line, Nascar drivers decided they needed to be in better physical shape. Jimmie Johnson leads some of them on 40 mile bike rides the day before the race. Reed won the Masters and he didn't look like he could go 40 miles unless it was in a golf cart. I never heard of Reed or any of the finalists in the Masters. I will say it had a minimum of commercials and from a standpoint of capturing all the action, moved right along.
Nascar is just more than turning left, and golf is a sport too. Electronic sports, sitting on your bum playing on the computer is not a sport. Yet there are scholarships to college for Esports. What would Ulrich say? Probably what I would say.
MR front I was working on the framing for a Details Assoc. Branchline roundhouse I got on Ebay.
Good Evening,
Lion, sorry to hear about your mother.
Dave, regarding wire strippers, I have a General No. 69 stripper that has a dial so you can set it for 12-28 gauge wire. It works very well even on small decoder wire.
Still waiting for spring here. Hope it comes soon as we are supposed to start birding and breakfast on the 18th. So far we have only heard a few geese and seen the odd Junco but nothing else.
Ran trains yesterday with the RS3. I am thinking of putting a sound decoder in it. I have a sound only decoder set up under the layout that works ok but still not as nice as sound in the engine. Perhaps I'll use the proceeds from the items I have on consignment for that purpose. I also have a watch for sale with a jeweller I know. He says he likely has it sold so that will add close to a grand into the kitty. The watch I wear every day is over 40 years old and will likely outlast me. Nothing like a simple windup mechanism. I also have the watch my Dad got to go overseas with and it still works fine but as it is a Rolex, I guess that isn't surprising.
The car turned over 100k which isn't a lot for 8 years. That is kilometers so about 62k in miles. At this rate it should last a long time. It is in very good shape. A fellow I know has a Volvo with close to 400k miles on a 20 year old car so they can last a long time.
Well time for tea and TV.
CN Charlie
Well, time for tea and TV.
I'll take a Cheeseburger, Onion rings, and a bowl of Mac and Cheese, and a tall glass of Arnold Palmer Half and Half.
Not much going on today, went to the zoo earlier for their 48th anniversary, well I'll be back later...
G'd Evening Gang,
This has been a very sad and somber week end in Saskatchewan.
After a terrible crash where a semi pulling a set of doubles loaded with peat moss bales struck a motor coach (bus) filled with the Humboldt Broncos hockey team of the Western Canada Junior Hockey League, tearing the bus into two peices. The front end back to the first baggage tank and then from there to the rear. They had to cut the roof off to get to the victums. The result ended up with 15 dead and 14 injured including the driver of the bus. The trucker walked away unhurt.
There was vigils held all over the province tonight, at least 10 that I know of. The one in Humboldt even had Federal Gov't employees there as well as the Prime Minister and the Priemier of the Province. A lot of others have stepped up in their support for them as well. The League, the NHL. the Saskatoon Rush, (prov. Lacrosse team, and many local, National and International teams, Leagues, and individuals to the point they have raised 4.6 million dollars for them. That is wonderful as the boys that are still living will need all kinds of therapies both physical and phsycological
I want to thank Ken and any others that mentioned them in there earlier entries here. WE all need your prayers at this time. Will know more as the days go on and the investigators finish up.
In my career I, and my Son, have hauled Basketball, ski, figure skating, broomball, ringette ,baseball teams. soccer, football, and hockey teams all over western Canada and north central States for thousands and thousands of miles and there but for the grace of God that could have been either my Son or I.
I am eternally Grateful that it wasn't. I will do much praying for the victums and their families but also for the Trucker who walked away unscathed physically, but how could a person continue to function properly with the weight of that incident hanging on his mind. Whether he is charged or not. he will be screwed up.
May Peace come to all.
