 Eveing Diners!

Flo, give the gang a Beer and Steven and Rick what they like. And leave a, what Flo. Ulrich is sitting in the back? You sure it is Sir Mad Dog, it looks like a Duck to me! Confused

Welcome back Ulrich I have missed seeing you in the diner!

Work not even worth talking about!

PRR Coach Wars! To Qoute Maxwell Smart "I was this close". I found the rear wheels out of gauge on the problem coach. Set then to NMRA standreds and gave them a test run. I was on lap 4 Big Smile then the rear truck on the problem coach derailed! Bang Head Looks like some new wheels are in order.

Other Problem. Seem the preferences owner CA Glued the shells on? That is sure going to make it hard to get the lights going and add people.

Ed Thank you for the photos. It all so reforces my need for a better computer! Kept locking up!

Came close last nigh to buying a BLI PRR P70 Coach for $34.97. I am pretty sure with some work on the coupler pocket I could make it work! But the $12.00 shippig stopped me dead in my tracks! I was not going to spend $46.97 with shipping for something I think I can make work!

 Later, Ken

It could be worse ....

Actually, Garry, that engine — the GTW 3734 did kiss the bottom of the turntable pit in Pontiac, Michigan back on June 9 of 1955 or so.

 3734GTW_Pontiac_6-9-55 by Edmund, on Flickr

The locomotive (later 4070) never did track properly after that and the lead driver did have a tendency to derail!

The model follows the prototype TOO closely Whistling

It is a wet day on the Coast, had to turn the furnace back on for the woman in the house.

My woman would love it if it stayed at 55°F(13) in the house. I still have the wood stove burning! It was 33°F(0) last night and tomorrows high is only supposed to be 44°F(6.6)! It is almost MAY already! I'm the one that wants the warmth of that stove.

Cheers! Ed

Been too busy trying to help Mom & Dad move into a senior home here in town.

FRRYKid:

Dealing with elderly parents can be extremely taxing. Just keep in mind that they took care of you for years and now it is your turn to reciprocate. Patience is a virtue! Fortitude is a must!!

Best of luck with them,

Dave

Taxing is not the word. I was tired to say the least this morning and afternoon. I ended up driving the electric pallet track off the bay dock at work this afternoon. We were trying to back load a trailer and I didn't realize the dock plate hadn't been deployed. Thankfully a few of my coworkers were able to help me get the machine back on the plate so that we could fix the problem. Any other time I most likely wouldn't have done that foul up.

Heartland Division CB&Q

FRRY ... If your Mom and Dad are willing to make the move, it should less difficult to help them move.

The move wasn't really willingly. It had to be done. Dad needs to get his hips replaced and has been inactive for a number of years because of the bad hips. That led to his need to be in the hospital. The 45 year old mobile home was declared unsafe. It wouldn't have been good for him anyway. (Too many steps.) But that forced Mom to make the move as well. She is not exactly happy about it. This afternoon, Dad even had the audacity to wonder why I didn't stay around when it appeared he was sleeping. (Mom is even having a problem with Dad's attitude.) I need to destress and get some sleep myself. (I have a regular job myself as already mentioned.) Getting to bed at 2130 or even later and having to be up and ready to go by 0500 to start work at 0600 is taxing for must anyone. (I normally try to get to sleep around 2000.) I know that one is supposed to honor one's mother and father, but when one doesn't respect you, there should be a limit. (If this is out of bounds, Mr. Otte, let me know and I will remove it without a problem.)

Ulrich is back! YIPEEEEEEE! I want to thank Ken for leaving all that beer out, it paid off.

I think Ulrich has moved. Google earth shows the middle of the street, where do you plug your computer in?

All kidding aside, I believe it is the building on the right across from the building with the tall hat.Smile, Wink & Grin

Anyway, glad to have you back. How come you haven't posted a video yet?Dinner

Thanks for the kind words about my Dads Monopoly Game. One thing I forgot to mention was he did all the printing freehand with India ink and then put some sort of varnish over it. Pretty good stuff for a kid. He made some other interesting things along the way and got me started in trains.

Steven Otte, the kids I-Phone and Computer would be used as props and would probably not even turned on. Sorry I wasn't too clear on that. I am sure Apple pays the movie company something for product placement.

He did one movie where they paid him an additional $35.00 a day for bringing his Grim Reaper Halloween costume and wearing that for three days. It only cost him $12.00 at Walmart two years earlier. On another movie, they handed out fake I-phones to everyone in the scene.

It is a wet day on the Coast, had to turn the furnace back on for the woman in the house. Filled my truck right up with stuff for the fair at the kid's school that is next Saturday and took it over this morning. On Thursday I have some furniture to take over as well. It is advertised as a 500 family garage sale and is a big part of the fundraising.

Think I'll go run my monster train with the midtrain helper before dinner. Time to take it apart and have something a little shorter so I can actually fit it in a siding or be able to let two trains pass. It's fun to get carried away sometimes though.

The kid just woke up, was on set from 1500hrs to 0900hrs this morning. A dog bit him in one of the scenes they were shooting last night. He said he just carried on until they yelled cut and then checked to find only minor damage. I guess dogs hate working all night long and get grumpy as well.Laugh

Ken can leave Ulriches beer on the table tonight.BeerBig Smile

All the best to all.

Funny how you sometimes don't notice the obvious. Same thing happened to me and it was months before I realized it, after posting the photo to several threads and forums:

At least the engine was sitting behind the roundhouse and not out on the main!

I get a kick out of it when you see a screw up. Page 29. The first Gramps tanker has a derailed truck in the rear.

Well, someone finally posted what it was.... At least it's not in the "Oops" thread though.

Wondered how long it would be before it was said exactly what it was.

Seems like those NASCAR guys were trying to just turn some laps, as the race finish was much better than the rest of the race. It just took them a while to get to actually racing.

Weather - Specifically the Erie Pa snow record front - Ed mentioned it felt like February in the photo thread, he's right. Erie needs 0.8" of snow to tie the record, and, the weather guesser's are guessing that we will have, ready for this, LAKE EFFECT SNOW late tonight and early tomorrow. Snow record here we come!

I wil be off to Pittsburgh for a meeting in the morning, and return in the evening. I will totally settle for 0.9" to break the record, then it may stop from there on.

SteveO- Hope you posted from home this morning, otherwise I think this is the first time I've ever seen you here on a weekend.

Zoe - Make sure Vinnie gets some of that cake sitting under the counter please, and I will take a slice, along with a glass of milk, please. Thanks.

Hope all are well, and all enjoy the night!

A warm welcome back to Alrich indeed. I very much miss the always kind words from that good old German guy. The Forum has not been quite the same since his absence.

My wife just handed me the June Model Railroader when I got home from work. The cover is great tribute to us Northern guys. I have been acquiring Great Northern stuff like you would not believe from train shows and eBay.

I get a kick out of it when you see a screw up. Page 29. The first Gramps tanker has a derailed truck in the rear.

You know time is taken to take a perfect picture. I wonder if things like this are sometimes done on purpose for a conversation piece to see if anybody notices it. I hope Alrich gets a kick out of this and shines in. Smile

Take care.   Track Fiddler

Putting Vegetable's in Jello ..... That's just "Wrong" !

Especially whan you consider that gelatin is ground-up bones, horse hooves and connective tissue! Double-Yummy.

Trivia:

In 1845, a patent for powdered gelatin was obtained by industrialist Peter Cooper, who built the first American steam-powered locomotive, the Tom Thumb.[2][3] This powdered gelatin was easy to manufacture and easier to use in cooking.

Compliments of Wikipedia.

By the way, recipes I've seen for the Jell-o salad say to make it really special with a big dollop of mayonnaise on top!

(I'm a Miracle-Whip person, myself)

Good afternoon all.

Flo - I will take a RBF please. Thanks.

Ulrich is back!!!!! Welcome back!!!!!

Thought I would check out the lower NASCAR series action at Dega today, and so far, they are all just riding around.

I will just sit here, enjoying my RBF, and hoping for some better racing action @Dega. (3&4 wide please.)

I will be here for a while, if anyone wants to join.

BATMAN

He has been asked to do a project as a university kid. $35.00 an hour, plus if he has a newish Apple laptop, he will get $35.00 a day for that, plus if he has a newish Apple I-Phone $35.00 a day for that. We bought him both for Christmas last year. It's funny because he always has both on set anyway to help pass the downtime, now he will get $70.00 a day for doing it.

I would say a big NO to that. Such arrangements involve installing "spyware" on your computer and/or phone that sends data back to the research company. It's usually on the up-and-up -- they aren't capturing sensitive information like credit card numbers, and the data is usually used only in aggregate, not individually identifiable. But the catch is, he will have no idea what data is being captured, or who is receiving it. If he uses the equipment in any way related to his work on the set, he may be unintentionally violating his NDA. Don't do it.

HELLO DINERS!

Went to the other club, Blane gave me a "graduation gift" a SD70 DCC no sound, I stopped by the "swap meet" table got two shells for EMD locomotives of unknown model, and 5 three foot boards with HO track on it and 1 three foot board with N scale track, all of it was.... FREE!

Anybody know where the diners headed for May?

I'll be back later.

Well; another week, another slew of new experiences.

I have just enough to preorder the first of like 14 odd cars for my COLA; the baggage-dormitory. I'll preorder it in the nex week or so. I think I might snag a few of the UP paint Hiawatha cars released a number of years ago, too.

Next up is going to be one of 7(!) 'Pacific' 10-6 sleepers. Oh yeah, I'm going to slap together a peak season 1st section consist, so an all Pullman lineup with the famed Astra Dome diner and lounge.

What else happend? Nothing too noteworthy.

. . .Speaking of Monopoly, back when the great depression hit, my Dad was thirteen (born 1916) He wanted a Monopoly board so bad and couldn't afford one, so he made one. He went to all the paint stores around Winnipeg and got paint chips for the properties and deeds, typed up all the various cards and carved out by hand the hotels, houses, and players. The only thing he purchased was the money. It is my prize possession. . .

That is one of the coolest things I have ever seen. Wow, just wow.

Hi, fellows

CNCharlie
Ed, that was some deal on the CRV. Our friends have had one for several years and really like it.

Thanks, CNC. I'm looking forward to taking 'er for a spin, soon. My sister buys a new Honda every two years, weather she needs one or not, and passes the "old" one down to family members. I never asked to be on the waiting list but the missus was driving a 13 year-old Ford and it was time for some new wheels so I put my request in Cool

Some of the other Hondas she has passed down have changed hands and really racked up some miles. I believe one was at 230K when it was again passed on to someone else Indifferent

Ed What color would the seats and carpet be in a PRR car? After I get them tracking right I want to get then lite and add detail.

Carpet? Pennsylvania Railroad coach? Carpet! Laugh

Take a look here for a good peek inside a work-a-day P70 (which is the basis for the Bachmann car). OK, I admit some of the later P70s were upgraded with better seats and windows. Still not sure about carpet, though. Probably linoleum.

http://rrmuseumpa.org/QR/p70/

I assume you have coaches? You can look at a typical open-section Pullman here:

http://rrmuseumpa.org/QR/lotos_chairs/

This is the lounge section. Notice anything different between the two interiors? This is the reason I choose to "Go PullmanBig Smile

Here is a look at the open-section area:

http://rrmuseumpa.org/QR/lotos-berth/

Before the "simplified" paint, say before WWII many of the Pullman cars had an excellent wood-grain wall finish. Upholstery was usually maroon or moss-green.

I'll stop by later, folks. Thanks for the comments on the NYC Geeps.

How about a shot of some later NYC Geeps?
