I just ordered one of these to see if it really works well on teflon wire!

I noticed that the demonstration video shows the operator with the wire wrapped around his finger, and it seems to take a pretty good pull to get the insulation to part company. I'd be concerned about using one on a wire that is soldered to a decoder, or anything else for that matter. Anyhow, that is just speculation. Let us know how it works.

Did your Schwinn arrive? There was an article in the Washington Post today about the increased popularity of e-bikes.

The Schwinn arrived two weeks ago but it has been too cold and windy to ride it. I have been around the block but I discovered a bit of a problem. Over the years my feet have twisted enough that I had troubles keeping them on the pedals. My toes point to the outside which causes my heels to hit the pedal cranks. Twisting my feet back in the right direction has proven to be rather difficult and uncomfortable. I'm considering trying a pair of rat trap pedals with the toe clips like the racers use so I can force my feet to twist inward without having to use so much effort. If that doesn't work I'll just have to keep looking like a very awkward cyclist until I can re-train my feet to cooperate. I also have to play with the seat height a bit in order to get my legs more fully extended.

I'm not going to invest in a motor assist, at least not for the moment. Doing the work myself was the whole idea behind getting the trike.

Thanks for asking.

Ed:

I just ordered one of the fine gauge wire strippers. I should have ordered one years ago. Thanks for the push!

Bro. Elias, so sorry for your loss! Life has a nasty habit of doing things like this to us. I wish you the strength to get through it without suffering too much pain.

Ed Guessing it was maybe a year ago I was asking about a Stripping Tool and you had one. Can you post the link again?

To pick out a wire stripper for you, Ken, would be like me choosing a toothbrush for you. I have different strippers for layout work, decoder work, teflon signal wires, house wiring, automobile wiring, LED wiring, PC board work and a bunch of "throw-aways" I keep around for less demanding work.

One size does not fit all.

I think the one in the thread we were discussing was the Ideal Stripmaster.

https://tinyurl.com/y9wrp288

There is one for 10 to 22 gauge and another one for 16 to 24. It is handy but bulky. I don't use it for everything.

This one is an inexpensive but clean-cutting stripper for fine (16 to 26) wire:

https://tinyurl.com/y9h2tnlu

Hakko makes three different styles but they are all small and lightweight. Comfortable in the hand.

Some of my other ones are Ideal like these:

https://tinyurl.com/y86aqfcm

They are good quality but since the handles seem to be larger they are not the most comfortable in my hands.

As you can see, I shop at Amazon. You can probably find the same strippers locally.

I hope you find one you like!

Cheers, Ed

Evening diners,

Ken, call me slow on the uptakeLaugh

Went to the club operating session today. Ran the Zwolle-Rapides Turn, everything went smooth till me and another guy headed northbound approached Pleasant Hill where two guys were working their respective trains and there were three more guys headed southbound awaiting the whole mess to clear up, the guy in front of me managed to get through and do the work he needed and head north, the other guy got his work done and headed south, I came in did my work by hand (the club presidents orders to get the jam up cleared) I entered the branch and the other guys must've figured their stuff out, it was a dispatchers nightmare!

Flo, give the gang a Beer and Rick and Steven what they want. Yep Flo leave a stein outside for Ulrich.

Bother Ellis Sorry to hear about your Mom, she must have had a good life with a son like you.

Sad to hear about the hockey team. Payers for the ones that lost a child.

Steven, Rick was right. I did not mail the package, if it could not be delivered I would loss the shipping cost. Now that I have your last name I just might beable to get it out Monday or Tuesday.

Ed Guessing it was maybe a year ago I was asking about a Stripping Tool and you had one. Can you post the link again? I need to get this wiring mess done with!

 Gary Great photo!

Turnout Question. If I want to run bigger engines that need a 22" radius what sizes Atlas Turnout do I need so the turnout radius is 22" inches? I think most of mine are 8's. Have not bought a turnout for gosh, 7 years?

Trains are running well so today was not a total lost.

 Later, Ken

Hobby Front: I may finally get my lumber cut on Monday. When the new sections actually go into service, (Only the shadow knows...)

Finally starting to get more vehicles purchased. However, I have to wait until it warms up more to get weathering paint. Still a little chilly to order paint via the Internet.

Have you ever seen things in real life that you know would look fake on a model railroad?

.

I got out of the car in Elberton, Georgia last week and photographed these two buildings with ther brightly colored brick, no mortar lines, and bright trim. There is no weathering, and also a lack of details in the scenes.

.

I swear they look like unpainted plastic buildings.

.

.

.

Suddenly all those cheap AHM kits I built in grade school are looking a lot more realistic!

I heard on the news of a tragedy in Saskatchewan, Canada involving a bus crash with a youth hockey team aboard. According to the story, there were 14 deths and many injuries. Sad.

I saw that, too.  My heart goes out to the victims and their friends and families.

Last year, I was on Cape Cod in Massachusetts and the girlfriend and I took the lunch train on the Cape Cod Scenic Railway.  We were lucky enough to be seated in the parlour car.  The staff gave us its history.  It served the same purpose on the Illinois Central, many years ago, and was part of the consist for the City of New Orleans.  The car was beautifully restored, and the meal was delicious as we rode along, past houses, farms and fields.

Howdy ... I'll have coffe and a donut, please.

I heard on the news of a tragedy in Saskatchewan, Canada involving a bus crash with a youth hockey team aboard. According to the story, there were 14 deths and many injuries. Sad.

MLC ... Yep, the weather is crazy. ... I was hoping to get the boat out of storage this weekend, but that is not going to happen. .... I wanted to have the boat so we could see the old US 68 / KY 80 bridge over lake Barkley being dynamited Wednesday. We are close enough so we definately will hear the explosion, but we can not see it from our house.

Brent ... Speaking of trucks, my Chevy was new 16 years ago this month. It has never had a serious mechanical problem. ...

Steven NWP SWP ..... Thanks for posting interesting photos .

On my layout, the red Burlington SD7 has delivered the Santa Fe passenger cars to Union Station ..... Next, the Santa Fe E6 needs a decoder installed. The decoder should arrive in the mail today, and hopefully I will have time to intall it this afternoon or evening.

Below is the SD7 at Union Station with the Santa Fe train. Its next assignment is to move some reefers into a siding at a distribtor in town.

Continuing with this month's theme, here is another train that went to New Orleans. This is a publicity picture from the 1940's of the Illinois Central Panama Limted which ran from Chicago to NOLA. .... I recall riding a similar train, the IC City of Miami. It went via IC from Chicago to Birmingham, AL where it changed to Central of Georgia to Jacksonville, FL. From there most of the train went via FEC to Miami. Some of the train's cars went via Atlantic Coast Line to Tampa on one of their trains .

Brent ... Speaking of trucks..... Your photo shows a very nice truck and trailer. I have been by the Ford truck plant in Louisville several times. My opinion is pick up trucks last longer than cars.

Thanks Garry, I remember rolling into the campsites when the truck and trailer were new and the other campers coming to check them out. Now the truck is 18 and the trailer is 12. We have the old stuff now.Laugh That is a fairly recent pic, so they do still look pretty good. Took the beast in for an oil change. I think it holds 18 Litres if I am not mistaken. Don't tell Ray.WhistlingLaugh

Use to go out fishing alot in the past. Usually we would just mooch with or without downriggers. The Orca would often come say hi and float beside the boat and we would chat with them. They would squeak and we would talk and whistle to them. They would let us give them a nose rub sometimes and that was always a special day.

There has never been a recorded attack by an Orca in the wild, only in captivity on their jailers.

Here is a little Friday night excitement from Bears part of the world.

Kevin, as long as you don't hire any waitresses named Samantha while we're in Baton Rouge! Laugh

Maybe we should make our way farther north up New Roads, St. Francisville, Tunica, and Angola way...

This is the old ferry landing out in Bayou Sara in St. Francisville.

That's the station in Zachary.

This is a photo from one of the many floods that Thompson creek goes through.

That's the Bluffs on Thompson Creek.

That's the Old Mississippi River Bridge.

St. Francisville is only about 20 or so minutes from Jackson which I live just on the outskirts of.

I gotta get up Early tommorrow for work so I can't hang out for very long......

Kevin - Who in blue blazes is Stella? Is she new here just because we are in the Deep South? We are in Streetcar territory..

.

Good catch on my reference! I think Steven said the diner was in New Orleans, or close to Baton Rouge, so Stella seemed apropriate!

.

One night when I was 17 or 18 some friends and I went out to a diner in Nashville late night, and our waitress was named Stella. We made complete embiciles of ourselves yelling out "Stella" whenever we needed something. I really wish I could rewind and take that night back.

.

My neighbor has a dog named Stella that keeps getting out of his backyard. I kind of smile to myself when I hear him going down the street yelling STELLA! for her.

Good evening all.

Chloe - Instead of a RBF, make it a CF (CokeFloat) please. Thanks.

Kevin - Who in blue blazes is Stella? Is she new here just because we are in the Deep South? We are in Streetcar territory... Wink

Steven NWP - I think Ken meant that he still has your package until he adds your name on it.

Ed - Occupant, Resident, with or without current in front of it, might suffice for a house street address, but I believe Steven uses a POBox... They work a bit differently IIRC.

Ray - It is good you have all that extra free time, you would be going crazy otherwise.

Vinnie - You grabbed that last piece of orange cream cheesecake I brought, right? I told the girls you better get one, or there would be trouble... They did give you one? Good. I don't want you bringing out the enforcer next time I walk in because I neglected to give you cheesecake...

Anyone catch the epic meltdown Sergio had at the Masters Tournament on Thursday? Boy, I thought golf was boring, but his 13 on a par 5 was entertaining!

Weather - Snow flurries tonight. And it's cold again...

W*^k - My boss needed a Beer by 11am, and I was about ready to join him. Customers were grouchy as all get out, for zero reason.

Asthma issues - Still a bit there, I really just need the weather to straighten out, along with a couple of days of not doing anything...

Chances of both happening are slim to none.

Oh look, Slim just walked out the door. Bye Slim!

Hope all are well, and all enjoy the night!

Genuine Vidalia Onions from the farmer's market in Vidalia are so wonderful!

Several years ago my brother brought us a bottle of Vidalia Onion salad dressing. Not sure where he got it but it was incredibly good.
