Evening diners

Things are looking better up here in the Klondike (Minnesota). Yesterday it was 45 degrees. Today it was 55 degrees. It feels like a tropical heatwave. Our 18 inches of snow is melting fast.......GOOD!

I was working in Hopkins Minnesota today. I never noticed TCW before. I seen a long train with three locomotives, TC&W. (Twin Cities and Western I think). I was pleasantly surprised. it seems they adopted the Duluth colors from DMIR. Maroon and Gold.

I think I was weaving a little bit on Excelsior Boulevard watching it.

Well, I am certainly looking forward to Spring as I am sure you are if you don't have it yet.

Take care guys..... Track Fiddler

Good evening Diners,

Brunhilda, I'll have an Earl Grey tea with cream and honey, please.

Hello-o-o-o, any body here?  Where did everybody go?

Richard:  congrats to your wife for her accomplishments.

It looks like we might get a hint of spring after all. Today was in the upper 40s maybe even low 50s. (Fahrenheit for our Canadian brothers and European friends).  I think "normal" here is upper 50s and low 60s at this time of year, but I could be wrong about that.  Still not warm enough for my taste.

Nothing to report MRR wise, today.

Hello to everyone, and I hope everyone is OK, safe, and warm.

Less is more,...more or less!

Evenin' Jim...

Looks like you and I are the only people here today...  Been kinda slow!

Hey Janie!!!  How about some decaf, please.  Janie?  Janie!...  Oh there you are.  What?  Taking a nap on company time?   Hmmmmmmm......

I've been sitting here at the computer most of the day putting together the Program for Troop 1's New Eagle Scout Ceremony.  I always like doing those!  I am the Commissioner for his Troop and have watched him progress through the ranks.  This kid has earned 39 Merit Badges on his way to Eagle.  Not bad for a handicapped Scout!

Did take some time to shop for some clothing odds and ends today.  Needed sopme new socks and underpants.  Did some wieght work with the Dumbbells as well this eveing while the printer is printing out some newsletters for members of my NMRA Division who are stuck back in the 1950's.....

Tried on a shirt hanging in the closet that is a full size smaller than what I have been wearing.  Fits me!!!!  Yeah!

Hope those of you that are missing in action are at least out somewhere having fun!

Flo, the gang and I will have a Beer please. Give Rick and Steven what they like and leave a stein outside for Ulrich.

Gary I was looking for post about the Bachmann Passangers cars I saw where you posted you had 12 of them. How do you take the roof off? I seen the taps on the bottom of the cars. Push clips in and pry on the roof?

Train Front New Pullman cars! Not a single coupler height matches? The PRR M1a has yet to drag all 5 coaches around the layout. But I still like them, with some work I sure I will love them!

Ken...

You asked

cudaken
Train Front New Pullman cars! Not a single coupler height matches?

I answered: (in your "Longest Passenger Car?" thread)

gmpullman
Bachmann cars used a flimsy pivoting coupler box that was pretty troublesome with a link going to the truck bolster. It worked - sometimes - but the coupler boxes would sag and the linkage would get broken easily.

Why are you surprised?

Just sayin —  Whistling

I hope everyone is doing well.

Recently finished a kitbash of two signal towers spliced together. And, I treated myself to a new Erie-Lackawanna Bicentennial SDP-45 Yes

Toasty here in NE Ohio! Last night was 26° low tonight was a balmy 29°! At least it is in the right direction.

Thanks and Angel to those in need.

Good morning diners...

.

Sometimes SteveO posts pictures of food in here, so I am going to do the same and share something amazing!

.

I was told about this little restaurant buried in rural North Carolina called Caffe Rel. I made a seven hour round trip from Charlotte on Thursday night to check it out.

.

.

Diners... let me tell you... this place is 100% a hidden gem. It is actually attached to a Gas Station/Convenience Store. What a surprise.

.

I had a Greek Salad, Bacon Wrapped Scallops, and a French Style Pork Shank for my main course. Everything was perfect. It was the best meal I have had outside of some of the best restaurants in Atlanta or New York City.

.

My wife had the Pot Roast Plate. It was better than Prime Rib! The grilled vegetables could not have been better.

.

.

It is in a little town called Franklin, North Carolina, and it is worth the trip to get there.

Good morning, everybody ....

Kevin ... Looks like good food.

Ken .... Its been a while since I worked on Bachmann Spectrum passenger cars. The roof comes off, and I think you are correct about the tabs through the floor holding it on. The pivoting coupler boxes can jiggle up and down causing couplers to separate. I experimented with gluing a strip plastic underneath the end of the cars so the couplers would not go up and down too much. Later, I removed the piviting coupler boxes, and installed Kadee couplers with couler boxes onto the car bodies. ..... The lights will get too hot with DCC power resuting in a melted roof. It is easiest to simply remove the lights, but you could intall resisters.

Ed .... I like the signal tower and the EL SDP45.

Everybody .... Have a nice Sunday.

Evening,

Some how my post from earlier today did not post.

Anyway, its been raining all day here today. I got called out to work this afternoon, then made the mistake of going to the grocery store.

I got this beast fixed for a customer, so you see what is on my workbench in the basement....

It weighs about 50 lbs..... It has a nice sound now.

It was slow at work as well. Only one customer. They bought so it was sort of a good day?

The pivoting coupler boxes can jiggle up and down causing couplers to separate.

Gary Where the boxes them self moving or the couplers in the boxes? Reason I ask is I opened one coupler box and found 2 Kadee 1/10th washer in side. From what I have seen installing a few Kadee #5's would fix the coupler height problem when standing still.

Ed Are you still living the Night Shift life or are you getting to normal hours? I would like to talk to you about wiring. Found these wire strippers at Harbour Freight. While they look the same? Whistling

Train Front Gosh I have way to many rolling stock! Bang Head I have around 50 cars just setting off the rails on the layout so I could clear room to try to run the PRR Pullman  cars. Another 110 that have been packed up for 3 years now? Whistling Yet I am still dragging around or have 100 cars sitting on the rails?Bang Head

Steven If you need anymore cars let me know in the dinner and then we will talk.

Hello everybody. ...

Ken. ... the coupler boxes were jiggling up and down on mine. ... you might be lucky with yours.  You can try them to see if there is a problem. Maybe yours will be okay as is.  ...

tomorrow is my wife’s birthday   .  We already celebrated last night going to dinner with friends  .

I ran trains for visitors from out of town.  Not too many problems with the layout this time.

Good night.

That reminds me of what my rolling stock table looks like. (Not that I have that many, but I still probaly have many too many cars.) Especially with the fact that they will have to be moved shortly. (Mom & Dad are moving off the ranch into town.) Family drama that is probably out of bounds.

Even with that, I still have managed to get a few more pieces of rolling stock. (A new flat that will be bashed to a wheel car, the plan for which was started before all the headaches. A new engine that might need a little bit of work. A bid in on a gondola car.)

Got to go help with some of the drama in about half an hour. Should be interesting.

Okay, I have a question for the adhesive experts in the diner. What would you use to glue a foam board to drywall? (Not necessarily a MRR question...)

It is 17c on the West Coast with sunshine for the foreseeable future. Been getting the yard recovered from winter with a lot of reseeding of the lawn being done. For some reason, it took a real beating this year.

MoeLarry, that is some reel to reel. We had one almost as big in the 1960s/70s. When our crawlspace recently flooded I found a big tupperware full of tapes from back then. It will be me and the boys singing and playing in various forms of music groups. We weren't too bad for kids if I do say myself. I need to find an old RTR so I can listen one more time.Headphones

Had a call from a developer wanting to make an offer on the house, we said sure, he said it is just a starting point, we will probably laugh him out of the house as we have a really good offer already from an investor. We aren't in any hurry and the offers will keep coming I'm sure.

My neighbour gave me a couple of bottles of pretty nice wine for helping him out with his lawn tractor, they went down nicely.

Ken, you need to start building display shelves for all that extra rolling stock you have. When they aren't in view we tend to forget what we have.Whistling

Got the kid on his way to his out of town movie shoot. It is on Vancouver Island, they loaded up coaches and took the ferry over. He sat with some of the directors and was offered spots on future jobs this Summer. This production company has 39 projects between now and the middle of July so it looks like he is set. He contacted me from the ferry and I had to go online to fill out forms for the company for him. It took me 3 hours. KIDS!

There is a new Deadpool 2 trailer out. It has some off colour language in it so I won't post it. But here is a link.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20bpjtCbCz0

The (blurry) kid is at the 12 second mark in a yellow jumpsuit. He worked 3 weeks on set and had to leave for University or he would have had another 3 weeks.

Richard, do you ever want to be able to take the foam off the wall? Construction adhesive will take the wall with it if you ever try and pull it off. Laugh

Just about quittin time for you guys in the far East, so let me buy the first round.Beer Cheers!

Just about time for lunch for me, I don't think I will get much done today, but that's okay.

All the best to all.

Nope, this is relatively permanent. I had some plumbing work done and they had to cut some holes in the drywall. I have the cutout pieces and need to re-mount them. I have a bunch of 1/2" foam laying around so I am going to use the foamboard to glue some braces to the back of the wall, then glue the drywall cutouts to the braces.

Is this a non-credited part, or if we wait through the end of the movie will we see his name next to "(blurry) kid at 12 second mark" played by Batman, Jr.?

Sent my airbrush back to Badger and they are taking their time.  Last time I had it back in a week.  I think we are going on 3 weeks, called Friday and the tech said I was 198 and he was on the 170's but might get to it Friday or today.

Meanwhile I bought a cheap HF airbrush so I could paint some walls.  It's hard to to adjust, yet it runs through the paint faster than I would expect.  Nothing fits the Badger jars or hoses.

Edit forgot, what I really wanted to post.  A vintage NS train on Horseshoe Curve today.  Don't know anything about it, blast from the past.

He did a lot in his three weeks. They even spent about two hours shooting just him and another guy in a scene. They did three different versions of it. The editors have not been kind to him so far in anything he has done so we are not holding our breath. Getting a screen credit pays a lot more so they tend not to hand them out if they don't need to.

He also worked directly with Ryan Renolds in some shots over a few days and had a lot of fun.

As I type this he is giving me a play by play of the rehearsal he is doing for tomorrows shoot. He was up at 0500hrs today and they expect to be done at midnight. Apparently, there are lots of animals involved in this movie. Having a Vet for a Mom must give him a slight advantage as he spent lots of time at the Hospital helping out.

He has a hotel suite to himself in a pretty decent hotel, the same one that the stars of the movie are at. He gets a good size food allowance on top of his pay, the funny thing is, he eats on set as the food is excellent so he will likely come home with an extra $1000.00 in his pocket.

Evening diners,

Today was a MISERABLE day, why you ask? Well on Saturday I was doing some singing for my family, and I overstrained my voice so I have all the symptoms of a cold.

On the bright side me and my brother swapped out the tires on the little mower for some bigger ones, then we cut the "swamp" or "baseball field" we used to play baseball there but for the past few years it's been really wet like a swamp.

I'm going to work on some kits this week, I'll post some pictures in the photo threads.

Good evening Diners,

Brunhilde, I'll have an Earl Grey tea with cream and honey, please.

Moelarrycurley:  Aye, how thar's a tape deck!  Kind of reminds me of my playing days when everyone who had any money was buying a Teac 4-track machine. But I digress.  I bet it has good sound, but is tape even available for those anymore?

I took a DA grab iron and fit it through the holes  in my drill guide.  It fit really well, which  makes me wonder about the size of cast on BB locomotive grabs.  I suspect the cast on grabs are 17" and the DA wire grabs are 18".  Can anyone verify this and which size is correct?

Hello to everyone, and I hope everyone is OK, safe, and warm.

Whistling I know I have some of the miss guied Tyco and Life Like Pan Cake engines I bought off E-Stupid. I am guessing around 40 Tyco rolling stock under the layout that still have Targo Trucks.

What has really got me POed is I cannot find what I need to fix what I have! Bang Head Case in point. I know I have a bottle of Kadee Couplers and I cannot find them! Bang Head Reason I am not working on the Bachmann Pullmans right now! Sigh

Good evening everybody !

Henry. ... I enjoyed the video of the NS office car train. Thanks for sharing it.

Ken..   I know what you mean about misplacing things such as your Kadee Couplers. Sometimes I give up, and don’t find what I am looking for until I’m looking for something else I misplaced. LOL .

I spent part of the day and some of the evening helping my wife celebrate her birthday. ... Later  this evening, I started working on installing a sound decoder.

Steven Otte, Have you seen "The Man In The High Castle" on Amazon TV? I think you would really like it judging by your taste.

I have not. It's on my list of things to watch, but there are so many things on that list that it's at the priority level of "Would have to win the lottery first." Most of what I do make time for are superhero shows (it's ridiculous that there are 9 of those now, 4 of which we watch and 2 of which we DVR to watch during summer hiatus, not even counting Netflix series), sitcoms, late-night talk shows, and news. Is the kid in Legion again this season? That's one of our DVR-for-later series.

What's that about, well I set out to assemble some kits today, completed the MILW boxcar Accurail kit, and worked on the NYC gondola Proto2000 kit Ed gave me, those P2k kits havery SOOOOO MANY detail parts! I did the basics I'll finish it when I feel better and have some more patience.

Ken, I'll take whatever you are willing to give, I'm not choosy, thanks again to you and Ed for the help.

Well I'm heading to Wally World for some paint, I loathe going to Wally World, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

BTW I signed up for Merriam-Websters "Word of the Day" today's is "loathe"

I'll be in and out today, later.
