Not sure which "forum accross the street" you mean, as they are stretched up and down the block.

I don't either, Mike. I'm sure, especially in the case of trying to identify someone who passed away, that Vinnie would mind mentioning another forum. The only other two I'm aware of are the Atlas Rescue Forum and the Big Blue one that Doctor Wayne mentions now-and-then.

I don't remember ever seeing Big E posting here either.  Shouldn't the memorial list be for our members?

Good afternoon.

It was thoughtful of Flip ( Phil) to suggest we honor Big E in the Rip Track .

I was wondering about that because Big E was not posting here .  Also his name is Eric White. By coincidence, one of the MR editors has the same name . Therefore, we would probably confuse people if we included him on the RIP Track . So we will let the other forum honor him as they want.

Big E was a good guy.

Good day diners,

Went to the club earlier, not the Midsouth but the Greater Baton Rouge.

It would get confusing having an Eric White in the RIP track being that there is a MR employee and forum member of the same name.

FRRY     When I got discharged,it was recomended to us to have our DD-214 regestered at our county building,so that could be someplace to look if you can not find it at home.

Worth a shot. Need to go over there on Monday anyway for something else Dad related.  (What office would you suggest, however?) On that note...

Dad Front: Mpm wasn't feeling good today so she askedme to pop in after work. Dad was watching the basketball games, which wasn't happening previously. The bladder infection appears to be clearing. They are going to try to get him sitting in a chair for a good chunk of tomorrow. The creatinine level is still high but it hasn't spiked for a couple of days. (My aunt, Dad's sister, who is also a nurse, called my Mom and said that product takes a while to go down.) He's coming along, but slowly. As I said to someone, this didn't start overnight and it won't end overnight either.

 Eveing Diners!

Flo, oh, I see Ed is picking up the tap! Big Smile Yes today was a good day!  Make sure there is a stein outside for Ulrich.

Last three days have been a mix bag of events.

Only bad thing. Seems I under paid my 2010 ILL State Tax by a whole $2.00!  Did the blood sucking state let me know? Why yes, in Feb 2018! They now want $120.00 in fines for $2.00? Bang Head

Good news. Spent part of Thursday at the VA Hospital to have my eyes checked and a CT scan of my lungs. Last year I was told "there is minor damage to my eyes from diabetes". This time around I was told "your eyes have no damage to them that she could see!" Big Smile

Got Home and recived the needed 2.5 and 3.0 MM scokets from Ed! Thumbs Up

Hum, Ed where are the dran sockets!Laugh All I can find is BLI Pargon 3 Rolling Thunder Bessemier SD 9 and the Rolling Thunder Reciver! Now where are the darn scokets! Big Smile Just kidding about the scokets. Whistling

I love the SD 9 Pargon 3! the decoder beats the heck out of the Bessmer SD 7 by Walthers PK 2000 I bought as far as sound! Walthers need to rename there Tsunami Decoder to Little Ripple! I make a bigger wave when I jump in my swimming pool!

I love the way the engine ramps up RPM's when going up a grade or going around a turn! Like the ramden sounds as well! Raido chatter, hum it's there that all I can say about it so far. F-23 I like the rail nosie some what. If I can adjust there there clanking speed and volume I think I will enjoy it.

Have yet to install the Garbage Can full of Tennis Balls Rolling Thunder. Big thing is finding a places to plug it in next to my NHT SA-1 Sub Woffer Amp.

Did you happen to play with the CV's besides address? Thing is slow at lower speed steps. When I read the decoder seems CV 6 was only 52? Either the sound is eating a lot of current or mide range has been turned back or came more for yard work. Either way I love it! Big Smile

I don't kow why you are being so good to me, but thank you! Bow

 Later, Happy Ken

Evening diners,

Hoping to possibly convince the joint chiefs to allow me to start a module for my main future layout but I am not sure yet if I'll get the green light, err green signal in this case!Laugh

Hoping to get some modeling projects done now that some money is starting to flow my way thanks to me doing to pool and renegotiating my rate I am slowly crawling out of the shadow of poverty!Laugh first I gotta pay off my magazine subscriptions but once I've done that I am homefree!Laugh

Thinking about getting a few SD7s painting them up in a NWP-SWP scheme add some details maybe deck them out for service on Donner pass. Also wanting to get started on the decoder install on the PA not sure if it's going to get a repaint, also going to start work on the P42 B unit.

Also I printed up some maps of the railroads that form the NWP-SWP if I have time this week I'm going to draw them on the large map I bought a while ago.

Hi, Folks —

Got those clocks reset?  Time

cudaken
 I love the SD 9 Pargon 3!

Glad you like it, Ken! Don't blame Walthers for the Tsunami. It just happens to be the decoder they put in there. There has been lots of discussion on the downsides of the original Tsunami sounds.

cudaken
Thing is slow at lower speed steps. When I read the decoder seems CV 6 was only 52?

I really don't recall setting anything but sound volume and address.

 BLE802 by Edmund, on Flickr

I don't see CV6 with 52 either. Well, You could always do a reset Whistling

 BLE802a by Edmund, on Flickr

Maybe you can see something here? The speed table is straight line 0-255.

Anyway, glad you're having fun!

Found the Restoration of PA #59 on Facebook.  It's not on youtube and there doesn't seem to be anyway to link the video for you non Facebookians

https://www.facebook.com/AlcoPARestoration/videos/vb.749385811797541/1763792140356898/?type=2&theater

I have a cousin by marriage, well my uncle's 3rd marriage to be exact.   I found out on TMZ she is getting a divorce.  Strange to read about your own family in the scandal sheets.  I am glad I am not famous.

The neighborhood clean up wore me out.  We picked up 3 trashcans of garbage from our gutters and community woods, a wheelbarrow full of dirt and sand and 10 leaf/grass bags.  Mind you this is a nice community with a waterfront.  None of our volunteers came from the younger pool of homeowners, our average age was probably close to 60.

My hand grabs are installed on the F units but I need to do some more weathering.  I have not done much weathering to locos, so I need to study some pics first.

I had to steal a screen shot from one of their other vids.  They have their work cut out for them.

I was fortunate enough to see and ride the PAs back in 1973 on a fan trip.

Old 8 mm film. I sure wish we had the modern recording devices of today back then... glad I got what I did, though. It was miserable weather.

The Diner has been pretty sparse lately.

Good evening,

one more day of call.... I have been woke up both mornings this weekend with w*rk. Partly the result of a major upgrade of software, this morning was result of daylight saving time.

we have what I call a surprise winter storm. They did not start predicting snow until yesterday eve, now we could get 5 inches. Big wet flakes are falling as I type, roads were too warm to stick to the roads. All this will be gone tomorrow.

Evening All!

Dad Front: I think he's getting closer to normal. Mom still wasn't feeling good this morning so she had me run some stuff in for him. He was sitting on the bed (with some help). I gave the items in question to the nurse. Dad , of course, had to see if Mom brought the right quantity. His statement was something along the lines of "This will do for now." While that may sound like there's a problem, that's normal for Dad. He always seems to be grouchy and complaining.

Hobby Front: Didn't get anything done, but I did get the chance to take parts that I didn't take last week brought out today. If I find the time, I might get some weathering done on the SW1200. (Get one more thing off the project list.) I was also thinking that the 1200 is the last piece of rolling stock that I have purchased lately. (The grain hopper that needs some lettering fixed doesn't count as that was ordered last year.) I haven't even found any rolling stock even remotely intersting lately. (That was even before Dad's current issues.) I don't know what that says but it must be saying something.

Flo, get the gang a Royal Crown with a Beer chaser please. I will have just the Beer, give Rick and Steven what they like and leave a Stein Outside for Ulrich.

Yes another good day! Big Smile I forgot to mention Nancy was not at the store yesterday nor was she there today! Big Smile That makes any day better when I work. Yes

Sort of a sad reminder that my farther passed away. Got a letter from a insurances company tell me Dad had a policy naming me as the benafecerry. Sigh Seems I need to get a orginal death certificate. Not sure how to do that with dad passing in Indiana. If I have to drive there Ed get the caboose cleaned out, I will be half way to Ohio.

 Train Front

Ed I checked CV 6 this moring and it is set a 50? May be the postal person played with it? Smile, Wink & Grin Some what slow at lower speeds but a simple fix.

Got the Tennies Ball In A Garbage Can machine hooked up, seems DOA at this point? Read the booklet and there are some CV's I can try. If it does not work, small lost. From what I have heard on line I was not impressed. Now if BLI did a full range sound system that would be fun!

Ken, sorry about your dad, I think I remember the story.  When someone passes away, it seems everyone need a death certificate.  You can google Indiana death certificate and find the state agency that will issue them.  I expect there is always a charge.

My father in law passed away, I dunno 45 years or more.  The family never put a stop to his junk mail. My MIL died 6 years ago and we are still receiving junk mail addressed to my father in law.  That would drive me nuts if it were for my father.

I did do an online search for unclaimed property and Maryland was still holding some insurance money for his family as of about 8 years ago.  I've found money for a friend, an uncle and former group of business partners, but none for me.

Edit: having typed that I just did a quick search of the family names and found money for my son.

Edit, also my aunt, my uncle, and my wife's uncle.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, I could use a large mug of decaf for the moment please.....

Only 9:30PM here and I am ready to doze off.  Got home close to midnight (Daylight Savings Time) last night and got up and made it church this morning.  This afternoon got a bunch of odds and ends done that I needed to do and even went down cellar and looked at the building project I am doing.  Didn't get anything done on it, but I did look at it and moved it back to the work bench from the layout to look at it some more.  Water is pouring into the basement as all the sn*w from last week is melting.  Luckily even if I don't start the siphon the water just runs to the other side of the basement, under a wall, and into a drain leading back to the other side of the basement near where it enters so it can be pumped out via the sump.....

Last nights Museum Banquet was great!  The speaker was John Kucko, an award winning local sports broadcaster who covered every Buffalo Bills home and away game for 26 years as well as 19 Super Bowl Games and many other sports events.  He decided to walk away from from sports broadcasting to pursue his new passion of digital content, a lot of which has recently involved drone footage of the new Letchworth Park Bridge.  If you saw any photos of the Train Derailment in Attica, NY a few weeks ago, they probably were ones taken by John.  He was the only news photographer that was allowed on the scene when they were cleaning up the destroyed locomotives.  Anyway he was fascinating and had a whole lot of inside info on many projects.  I met John a few times out at the museum when he was photographing some of our events as well.  He still works for WROC in Rochester on a part time basis and anchors the 4pm show every day.

Well Ken, I hope the Insurance policy will help you pay off some of your debt and allow you to have a bit easier time...  Maybe more $$$ for the hobby.

I think I am about ready to turn in for the night (too what I'm not sure)....  Tomorrow I plan to go back to the store where I got my new suits and buy a couple pair of casual wear slacks, and maybe some shirts.  Right now I have the formal, Sunday go to meeting clothes and the everyday scuzzies but nothing in between...  It is nice to have a new wardrobe.  Have gotten some nice comments from the ladies that I look nice.  Too bad most of them are old married ladies.... (older unmarried ones might be worth looking into). Oh well!

Have a good one out there.

Some what slow at lower speeds but a simple fix.

The engine is slow at lower speeds? I'm trying to get a grasp of this.

Is it fast at higher speeds? I didn't mess with any of the speed table CVs. The Decoder Pro tables I show above are what the engine should be set at. Do the reset, change the address and see what you have. You can then use the speed table to raise the low-end.

cudaken
seems DOA at this point?

NHT SA-1 Sub Woofer should work fine. Try a different RCA cord?

http://www.broadway-limited.com/support/manuals/RollingThunder%20Tech%20Ref_V0.3.pdf

cudaken
Now if BLI did a full range sound system that would be fun!

Well, of course, the higher frequencies are more direct so your ear can hear that they're coming from the locomotive as it passes the listener. Of course, the low frequencies are harder to discern the location so that's why a subwoofer should improve the low-end without your ear actually knowing where the sound source is. I had the subwoofer under the layout near the center.

Thanks for the Royal Crown, Ken!

My first wife died in 1986. There are some weeks when she gets more mail than I do Whistling Just like the "Do Not Call" list, if you write to be taken OFF the list, that alone will kick the name onto more ACTIVE lists. It has the opposite effect.

Evening diners,

Long day. Rained again just enough to resoak everything that has dried out. It wasn't supposed to rain till noon but instead it rained all morning. I'm think of sending the local weather man a letter that reads "who's responsible?" Signed "dissatisfied customer" oh and P.S. "you were wrong." If you didn't get the reference it's from MASH Hawkeye once sent such a telegram to Harry S. Truman.

Nothing much going on modeling wise.

That's all for now.

Ugh, daylight savings time  is gonna destroy me. Granted, I like the extra hour  daylight in the evening (easier to chase Wheeling trains now), but I'm feeling the loss of a. Hour of sleep.

Going to scenic express next weekend.  pretty neat warehouse to visit.  hmm, I'm playing live music at a coffee shop at the end of the month.

We don't have a set length requirement. Articles can range anywhere from a single page to 8 pages. Just write it as long as it needs to be to convey the necessary information, and no more. We'll figure out how many pages it needs to be.

Good afternoon from the Sunny West Coast where it is 20c with 20 yards of fresh topsoil dumped on my front lawn.Tongue Tied

We have about an acre in lawn and in preparation for moving I want to level all the potholes and ups and downs out. Also, we have 450' of septic field runs in the front and 450' of runs in the back. A nice layer of topsoil will eliminate any squishy bits.Laugh

Been having gut problems so went to the Doc on Friday and had an Ultrasound today. Family history tells me I am overdue for removal of the Gallbladder. My Dad, Sister, every Aunt and Uncle on the one side of the family has had it out, I think my healthy diet and sporting lifestyle has delayed it past the norm and it has now finally caught up with me.

#1 son got called up to the big cheese at the University. The U.S. embassy is impressed with his views and knowledge of world trade and economics. They asked if he would come for an internship and work for the Summer at the Embassy. They have rescheduled all his exams to fit in around his internship. It is something that doesn't happen to a first-year student and only a few ever get such an opportunity at all. As far as working at the Embassy for the Summer, those in the know say he can write his own ticket after doing that. He is uncertain as to whether he wants to continue down the path he is going. He has lost his enthusiasm for what he started out on for the simple reason being, the total lack of engagement by the populations of countries around the world as to what is happening to them. Reality doesn't make it to street level. He will still go into international affairs, just not policy management which is too bad for the world. Also, he will make way more money doing movie work at home than Embassy work in Ottawa.

Jimmy B, I don't suggest you become a world traveler if you get thrown off by only one hour of time change.Laugh When I worked for the Government in logistics a lot of the guys would do work on the side, or for the Government, where they would fly somewhere in the world as a courier with the old briefcase handcuff to their arm. They might fly to Switzerland or somewhere, be gone for 40 hours, land back at home just in time to put on their dirty old coveralls and get back to the dirty work. We all had a decent level of security clearance. When I got mine after numerous interrogations, they told me I was clear to be alone with heads of state. That offered up some interesting work through my 36 years with the feds.

Ken, I hope you get a few bucks thrown your way from your Dads insurance policy. My Uncle called me once and told me I would be getting a letter from a law firm in England as an estate was being settled of some hoity-toity distant blue blood relative. I got the letter and a few years later ended up with nothing as I was so far down the list it was ridiculous. What a waste of time and money by that law firm. I wasn't holding my breath by any means.

Ed, I love all those old pics and Video's, keep 'em coming. Was the 8mm a windup? My Grandfather had one of those and took a lot of film around the old CN yards in Winnipeg as he worked there. My Sister had most of it put on to Beta and I put some of that on DVD. I'll have to get off my butt and post some.

Well, best go shovel some dirt even though I feel like crap today. I feel like I have been dining on glass.

All the best to all.

Oops! Forgot to add this. It is a CN video hosted by Gordon Lightfoot. It isn't very good, but if you are a Lightfoot fan you may get a chuckle out of it.

Good afternoon Diners,

Brunhilda, I'll have an extra large coffee with lots of cream, please.

Just stopping in to say hello.

One thought on international travel.  As long as you're going west, jet lag won't be much of a problem.  It's when you go East that it fouls you up. Just a minor point.  However, I for one, highly recommend world travel.  The education from it can't be obtained any other way because you experience things firsthand.  The only caution is that it's getting more dangerous for Americans and possibly Canadians too, everywhere.  So, one must be wise, and being street smart doesn't hurt.

Hello to everyone, and I hope everyone is OK, safe, and warm.

Less is more,...more or less!

Thanks Steve, I should have taken pictures from the very beginning.

Had my cataract remvoved at 1 pm.  My eye was a little sore when I left the office and took a nap when I got home.   Now it feels a little scratchy, but my vision is fogged over on the operative side.  I expect that's just normal post op swelling.

Woke up from my nap and had to make up for not eating breakfast, lunch and dinner.

I'll be back when I can see a little better.  The other eye needs a new prescription, but I chose to wait until the operative eye settles down.

Good Evening,

UP, I share your thoughts on travel. My wife and I have been to Europe, Asia, and Africa.  In fact we were about to set out on our 6th African trip this month but had to cancel last week. To say it was a tough decision is an understatement. I fear there will be significant consequences to that decision but I just couldn't see any alternative. Sorry to not be more specific but there are personal issues here.

I haven't done anything with the RR since before Christmas and certainly don't feel like it now.

I just seem to get through each day one at a time. My wife says I am an optimist and I suppose that is largely true but I don't feel like one now.

Compared to some things others have to deal with, our problems might seem trivial but to us they aren't.

Not looking forward to spring or summer for that matter.

. . .Ugh, daylight savings time is gonna destroy me. . .

What is this "daylight savings time" of which you speak. Wink

(Coming to you from the mostly DST-free State of Arizona.)

Evenin' folks.....

Well, i did some traveling today.  All the way to Victor, NY to the Men's Wearhouse.  Bought two piar of casual slacks and a couple new sport shirts.  The slacks will be ready to pick up (needed to be shortened) next Monday, but I have the shirts here.  Had $100 in coupons to use so I only spent a couple hundred there today...  I get the same guy every time.... Today I walked in and an older gent asked me how I was and what I would like.  Immediately the guy who has waited on my before saw me and came right over.  They now have short sleeve shirts in stock.  That is why i decided to pick up a couple of them.  My wardrobe now has all kninds of old worn out everyday, hang around the house work clothes, Two nice brand new suites, and some inbetween casual items that are less than 20 years old. LOL

No sooner got done with dinner and sat down to check email, than my son calls to tell me my oldest granddaughter is recieving an award tomorrow morning at school.  So, I will be up early to go over to Waterloo Intermediate School and be there for the presentation.  Thursday they have a half day of school so I will spend the afternoon with both of them at their house.  I do enjoy sitting for them.  they are growing up into very delightful young ladies.

Better get myself off to bed so I can get up early enough to get over there.

Evening All!

Lots of things to report on today:

Dad Front: I was told, from Mom, that they were planning to move him to a regular room sometime today! (Yay!) Very good sign.

Computer Front: Got the new screen this afternoon.  Got it installed and it worked perfectly. One minor problem: The system, when it recognized the new screen, wouldn't size the desktop to the size that I had it previously. I just had to rearrange the icons and shrink them a little. I also ended up dropping the magification down on the browser windows as well. For all the hassles, I still think it was worth it to be able to have the laptop back on my lap!

Hobby Front: Also got in the mail the can of decal spray and the sheet of GN decals. Given they were white, I used the oft mentioned trick of using a black Sharpie on the back to make the lettering more apparent. (Learned that trick from the forums.) Once that was done, I put a coat of the spray on the sheet. (Another trick for decals of any age that I do.)
