I've spent the morning looking for my bottle of Milwaukee Orange paint.  I organized all my paint into 3 cigar boxes and it wasn't there.

Cleaned out the "kitchen drawer" 50 pairs of chop sticks, a bag of screws, one of which I needed for the light switch plate, heart worm medicine from 2013, my missing T pins, 2 silver dollars from the 70's. and a bag of unlabeled seeds that look 1/3 the size of watermellon seeds.  Poked around the basement and found it on the floor, next to the layout.  It is almost gone, but enough for my purposes.

Generations, I blame the Greatest Generation.  They survived the Great Depression only to go off to WW 2 and face the horrors there.  They came back, left the farms and the coal mines, got decent jobs and raised the Boomers.  The taught the Boomers thriftyness and to work hard, but not how to be good parents.

Thriftyness, hard work, individual responsibility and civility weren't passed along to Gen X & Y.  All that has been replaced by entitlement and free stuff that the politicians want to give out so they will be re-elected.

Morning diners,

Please check to see if you get top of page if you do please post a new location for that page, thank you.

Well I thought about and I'm going to redesign the drive system of my mow kart, I am going to wire up a gas pedal add a clutch to the engine, swap the two key shaft to a four key, add some brakes, lower the seat and steering wheel. A lot of work ahead of me.

Scalecoat is now making that in rattle can spray format.  Walthers lists it as "in stock."  It was unavailable for years, but Scalecoat picked it up.

I never remember this being a rule.  Is this something you thought of?

You seem to have a bunch of time on your hands, so have at it.

The only rule I remember, from my infrequent visits, was something about buying lunch for everyone.  For that I have my own rule.  When I eat, everyone eats;  and when I pay, everyone pays.

.

I read a fascinating paper on the changing way children are raised. This had to do with throughout the last 5,000 years of human existance.

.

Basically what the writer said was that the human body and lifespan was engineered so that in the family structure, a child would be raised by their parents, and taught by their grandparents. So, you would live long enough to raise your children, and pass down your wisdom to your grandchildren.

.

The writer then went on to say that the industrial revolution in the 19th century was a complete disruption of this natural system. This began the time when your grandparent's knowledge and wisdom was no longer relevent due to the technology of the age.

.

It was a fascinating point of view. The writer pointed out how at the current rate of change, even our parents will not be able to pass anything useful along to the next generation.

.

I can't imagine what it must have been like to have your wise old grandparents teach you the finer points of farming or tracking. Your grandparents could teach you something really useful like how to survive a sudden blizzard or find water during a drought. Now we just listen to them tell tales of how hard it was "back when".

.

So, you might want to go back even further than the Greatest Generation.

Good Afternoon,

Steven, top of the page just means you have to buy lunch or drinks for everyone. There has never been a requirement to move anywher.

Brent, yes I did travel on trains while on our trip to South Africa in 2013. We went on Rovos Rail from Pretoria to Cape Town, about 1000 km. It took 2 days as the train didn't travel much at night so as not to miss much of the scenery. There wasn't any game viewing from the train as it doesn't travel through any game reserves. If you want to see what it was like just Google Rovosrail.com. They have photos as videos of the train. You leave Pretoria from a station that is owned by Rovos Rail. The departure lounge is exactly that with nice sofas, champangne and snacks. Outside the open doors a Class 25N steam loco was simmering. It is just used for a few kilometers to pull the train out of the station afterwhich an electic loco from SAR pulls the train for the journey. A 25N is a Mountain type loco which is small for its class by our standards as the trains run on 3'6" gauge. Rovos owns about 6 active steam locos. The one I saw was truly a beauty and really maintained to a very high standard. I was in the cab and even it was spotless. The tender was likely as long as the engine as they needed a very high water capacity in order to traverse some areas of South Africa which are semi-arid and water is scarce. The trip to Cape Town crosses one called the Great Karoo. Nothing but scrub brush and stunted trees. The train is really amazing. The only accomodation is in your own cabin complete with its own bathroom including shower. All the cabins are varnished wood and really beautiful. They all have opening windows too which is nice. If you want any further info, let me know.

Johnboy, it was great to hear from you. It looks like we might miss that Colorado Low as it seems to be tracking more to the west of us. The prediction here is for about 10 cm. of snow but so far nothing.

Well time to do something,

CN Charlie

I was adding the top of page new location thing because we're in CA and I thought it'd be nice for diners to get to pick a location for the page. If you don't want to participate I'll just pick the locations.

The constant "You must move it were at the top of the page" multiple times now is a little over bearing.

If folks were interested, I'm sure they would. Can't we just sit back and enjoy the chatter amongst diners?

 Eveing Diners,

Flo, what a day, I will have a Keg Of Beer with a straw and give the gang a Drinks and Steven and Rick a Sunday. All so leve a Stein outside for Ulrich.

Work Front. It was sloooooow and Nancy Drove Me Nut's! If she has customers she leaves me a lone. When she bored? Bang Head Funny thing she's not trying to be mean, but the stuff she wants me to do is so stupid!

Case in point. She wanted me to put up a poster for $500.00 off on a Pure Latex Bliss mattress. Problem was that sale was over! I pointed that out to her and she said "no one reads the posters, so put it up anyway!". I said "if no one reads them why put them up?"

Make a long story short, I finally ripped the said poster in half and said "Now I will put it up!"

Ed Boy Chessie stick some good looking caboose on the front of there engines! Surprise Thank your for the needed nut drives / scockets as well! Bow

 Later, Ken

Good evening diners. Flo, I need a beer.

.

I cannot believe this weekend is over. I finsihed assembling three Red Caboose boxcars and still have two left. I went on the internet and found Des Plaines hobbies actually has a couple of Viking Roofs for these cars in stock. I ordered them, hopefully they will be here this week, and I can assemble the other two.

.

Too many projects on my workbench, as usual.

.

I will be working from home all next week, so I will be home every evening to try and get some stuf finished up.

.

For now... I am off to bed.

Good evening everybody.

Diner location.  Let’s just say California and leave at that. Then people are free to talk about anywhere in CA if they want .  If they don’t talk about CA , that is okay too.

Keep it simple.   More importantly, have fun.

Well diners, hope everyone's day was more positive then my own.

My (new Angry) F150 just got deadlined by a drunk driver. 19 year old girl, under the influence, hit me head on while travelling on one of our rural highways. I put it in the ditch prior to the hit, and that's probably what saved both of us. It deflected her off the front of the truck and pushed me further into the shoulder of the roadway. Silly girl tried to flee after the fact, but didn't make it far.

Sigh.... Guess it's time to go truck shopping this week.

Granite.... Dang ! ..... I'm sorry to hear that. You said both of you were saved, and I hope that means no injuries. ..... My experience with a drunk driver caused injuries to me over 25 years ago. After surgeries and PT, I could go back to work after a year. My back still bothers me.

WOW!! Close call. You are obviously a very aware and defensive driver. Sorry about your truck, but better losing that than your life!

Sorry to hear about your unfortunate shakeup, Granite. Glad to hear it wasn't worse. I also hope you don't have any aches and pains over the next few days. I assume the air-bags deployed? That alone can leave some nasty bruises and soreness.

Good Luck, Ed

Morning All!

Weather:  Wind and cold. Latest winter storm. Although for this neck of the woods, it's not much of a storm. Just the wind. Not a lot of snow at least here. North and west got pummeled. Was planning to sneak the lumber out to the ranch tomorrow but not with this change in the weather.

Hobby Front: Should get the two engine projects done this week. The needed detail parts should be here. I will also order the decal sheet I need to "fix" the supposed RTR hopper car I purchased. I won't mention the manufacturer as not to impugn their reputation, but this is not the first time I have found problems with this company.

Dead

Hi Gang,

I've got a head cold that would stop a buffalo. really feeling bad, going to go to the Sawbones later today.

we got about 10 inches of snow over the last 36 hours and we have another system coming through tonight for another 4 inches.  Can I sell this stuff by the box or bag ???

I'm feeling too punk to go out and shovel or to go down to the headquarters of the LM&E, so I might just try something on the workbench here as it is fairly close to the bed.

Stay dry and warm ya all..

Hi, Johnboy,

Sorry, but I had to change a word in your post up above there. We don't allow adult language, even if you use bl___s or $¥Mßø1$ to mask it. If the word is still recognizable, it's not allowed. It's in the rules.

GraniteRailroader  Glad you are ok.  People are no darn good.

One of my neighbors discarded his yard waste right in the middle of our landscaped circle in the cul de sac.  Not the same as hitting you head on and trying to run.

I don't know if Vinnie considers the videos promotional, but brasstrains.com started a new series today.  I find it educational, even though I don't own any brass, I learn interesting things. The importers they interview could be considered extreme model railroaders/rivet counters who want what they want and go through the trouble of making it into a business.

Evening All!

Hobby Front: A bunch of pics for you tonight from a couple of diffrent projects
.
These three are from the new passenger station for the yard passenger track. The building arrived to me completely unpainted. The windows and doors are the standard MEC Green. The rocks are various Apple Barrel and Folk Art acyric paints. The colors are based on the facade of a building here in town.

I finally got the basic detailling work on my SW1200 done. I had to wait to get a replacement horn as I broke the stock one. I haven't gotten a chance to weather it but I figured I would post it as is.
