How's this look?
That's just the font not the finalized logo, the initials will be on the hood ends and the initials with matching strike through will be on the sides of the hood.
Steve
If everything seems under control, you're not going fast enough!
Steven,
.
I think you found a winner for the font style. It is similar enough to a couple of fonts used by real railroads, but still unique.
I am just worried about the "W", it looks a little off and out of place. It looks like a "3" that fell over.

Living the dream.
It looks good to me but thanks for the input.
It bears a striking resemblance to the old EMPIRE BUILDER typeface, but it's a little different.
I like how when the name is spelled out it kinda looks a little speed lettering like.
Once I get the logo in the right colors and everything set it'll look a lot better.
I know what looks wrong with the "W", it is too wide.
Is there a way you can reduce the width of that character?
I could possibly finagle it in MS Paint, I could try.
See the way I got the images was via a sample of what the font would look like, it took some tomfoolery to get them.
HERES THE HERALD!!!
Just to kick it up a notch...
Yeah....
NO!
Nice one Kevin, just too vibrant for me.
I considered using a sand color instead of moss green, didn't look that good.
Only other modifications I'd make are a diamond with rounded points around the Herald but that's about it and that's beyond my skills right now.
Steven, I like it! The font is a good choice.
Chuck - Modeling in HO scale and anything narrow gauge
A little less colorful with a bit more impact.
Kevin I'm not feeling it, sorry, thanks for the help though!
I'm going to finagle it in paint and see if I can get it a bit better.
NWP SWPKevin I'm not feeling it
So your ideas have changed from your original post.
NWP SWPI have toyed with idea of making a navy and burgundy scheme or a sunset like scheme. Any opinions or ideas???
OK. No more ideas from me.
Kevin, my ideas have changed since the OP, sorry I didn't make that clear.
Here is what I was going for.
I could also try doing a bright Yellow with the dark green, like the car in my Avatar.
Hello all, it's been a while since I worked on my herald for my railroad, today we had a family outing to the Baton Rouge Fairgrounds for the State Fair which had already closed up shop due to this weeks inclement weather.
Anyways on Airline Highway between Baton Rouge and Prairieville Louisiana (an area known as St. George Louisiana but is "officially" part of Baton Rouge) (same thing with Central, Louisiana it used to be part of Baton Rouge but was known as Central until in 05 they incorporated into a city of their own.) Well I saw a industrial complex for the company DEEPSOUTH Crane and Rigging, along with a bunch of really BIG cranes.
Well their logo looks pretty good and the font is really close to the one I chose for the NWP-SWP so I'm going to borrow the shape of their logo for my RR.
That's their logo, I'm downloading Adobe Illustrator Draw to my phone to get the colors and text right.
Actually, I prefer the way you did it previously.
One thing: their "word" is a single. Word. Just a kind of rectangle. Your "word" is more diamond shaped. Which fits better, I think, in a diamond.
I just don't think your "word" fits comfortably in their "shape".
Ed
Hows that?
Is the light green contrasty enough?
I would make the lettering yellow or white.

Like this?
NWP SWP Hows that?
But you changed the "word". Nah, I still like the diamond. It IS kind of conservative and kind of regular railroady (the diamond). That may or may not be what your railroad is after.
Also, it depends what you're going to do with the design. Is it going to be small, and under the cab window on Geeps? If so, are you going to also do a big graphic on the hood? Maybe just the letters "NWP"?Or are you planning on doing the graphic itself on the hood? Larger, of course. Maybe much larger.
Also, there's the question of whether the graphic is going on freight cars. And how. And if there's also other graphics.
And, of course, there's the paint scheme(s).
The graphic "doesn't live in a vacuum".
Here's what IC or NW patchouts would look like.
Those of course are patchouts, a repainted unit would be dark green with light green (or yellow jury is still out) trim.
I tried turning a unpainted trainiax picture into a painted NWP-SWP unit, didn't work too well.
The way it would work on typical units would be the hexagonal diamond with NORTHWESTERN PACIFIC in it on the long hood sides, then the hood ends would have the shape but NWP
I was tinkering around with Photoshop and came up with this logo.

That's actually not half bad.
It was just something I threw together after reading the posts on this thread. Feel free to alter it to fit your needs.
Thanks CNY, I saved it for future use (probably as a 1930s version of the logo)
So I finally got the font to not look wonky after processing,
It still needs work but its "close enough" for now.
Picture it on the long hood of SD40s and SD45s

This is pretty good. I see you put a lot of work into this. Green's my favorite color so i give it the thumbs up.
I get a kick out of the "old school" logos. Might check out Raymond Loewy designed logos. I believe he came up with several we're all familiar with and others not so familiar.
I tried my hand at this a while back for Ted Tedtedderson Inc. Fun times.
Keep up the good work. Looking forward to seeing your ideas on some rolling stock.

I've always liked this logo, cant find any digital versions I finally got a good (couple) pics.
So I was tinkering around and thought why not use yellow as a trim color? So I came up with this.
