WP ran from the bay area to Salt Lake City. In its early days it ran steam, but dieselized in the post war era. The WP was purchased by UP in the early 1980's.

Go to: http://www.wprrhs.org/ This is the Western Pacific Historical Society, who can give you all kinds of information on this interesting railroad, one of the last built.

If you decide to buy a steam engine. Kato has just released a Western Pacific Heavy Mikado.

The WP used to run their diesel engines in "Pool Power" consists mixed along with the Burlington Northern's units. This was I believe in the late 1970's upto early 80's until the UP bought the WP, then that ended. I have a lot of older footage on some of my videos that show 4-axle WP engines (Either GP38 or GP40) in the black paint or the silver/orange WP paint schemes mixed with the BN engines. Just a note for your RR operations. Pete

Indeed they did, as Charles mentioned in earlier post..the California Zepher was a well known passenger run in its time. The last issue of the historical society news letter had quite a bit of info on cars used. Not interested in that area myself.
