Good Morning!!!

Coffee and an order of sweet chili wings please. Thanks.

Patchy fog before 8am. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 89.

Garry- Haven’t tried video 4 today, but yesterday I could not.

Paul- The vast majority are gonna be fine. Even some of the goofies will be fine. The ones that have me worried are the “hot dog think it’s cool to have a gun in the first place look at me I’m cool because I carry a gun not only just a gun it's a Sig” kind.Kinda like a 7 year old. I know you know the type, you probably deal with at least one every day. Talks all this big show about situations, effectiveness and all that stuff. Tries to sound like he’s getting it because it’s the most practical for him. But you can tell he’s only getting it because he thinks it’s cool.Confused Just say "I think it's cool" ok buddy?

Jeffrey- I am not a Zataran’s fan eitherThumbs Down. I’ve been to LA, and though I realize there are a thousand recipes for every dish and some are better than others, but to me, Zatarans tastes like well, like it came out of a box. And not really a good box either. Bland is kinda close. Brenda makes the red beans and rice from time to time and she seems to like it. Me…Huh?.I eat it cause it’s in front of me. I’m glad you’re progressing well. Determination and a good strong will, both of which you have in abundance, is the key to a quick recovery. Good luck and I hope you get your prosthetic and moving around in record time.

G- I remember my Mom saying disdainfully “they spend too much time falutin around” when she would express disgust with someone who we would say parties a lot, hangs in bars…, generally just goes around having a good time. Websters, at least the one I have, doesn’t recognize the word faluting, and just because my Mother used it doesn’t make it a word naturally, but I wonder if faluting was one of those words that got lost and meant something like socializing and “High” faluting meant, high society faluting.Hmm

Welp, I could wo*k on the layout, but I need to fix the temporary shed doors that I put up 10 years or so ago when I built the shedWhistling. I was gonna get a rollup door but I needed to special order the size. So, I put up these barn type doors quickly without the intention of them being permanent. But I haven’t got “round to it yet and the doors are starting to drag. I figure I’ll just fix the framing to last longer and stick with the barn type. I suppose they are ok after all and cheaper than the rollup. Besides, I haven’t gotten round to ordering it anywayWhistling.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Galaxy is really stretching things now. I thought it pertained to a big zoo animal.

Jeff .... It sure is good seeing you post each day. I suppose soon you will have a bionic lower leg and foot. You'll be the $ 16 million man without the $ 16 million.

Jake .... I'm glad to learn you are studying civil engineering! We need more of them. Especially good ones. Most roads now were designed by uncivil engineers.

Todd .... I know what you mean about temporary repairs becoming permanent or at least lasting for years.  ...... You may have to allocate certain times of the week for the layout....... With the remaining time, you can "do what you can and can the rest" for non-mrr stuff.

Lion .... "Roar" is a short word.

Cheers, everybody.

Everybody    Now we can watch the North Montana Line video. My friend in MI< Dan Lewis, has made one of the finest N-scale layouts ever made.

Watch it, and you will have some appreciation of the layout.

Karl ...... I really like the 0-4-0 demonstrated in the video. Feel free to tell the Diners about the electronics that allow the engine to pass over dead spots in track.

Be happy!

Hello . Just watched Grand Torino. My mum and I saw it at the movies in 2008 just after my Father joined his Fathers. Had it for a while but coudnt watch it . Walts, just like my Dad, only softer.the only thing he taught me was if someone hits you hit them back. I worked out to hit first.

i miss my Dad but I know he would encourage me in what ever. He'd be scrouging up all type of stuff for my layout.

  Morning All,

Currently it is 70 with an expected high of 95. Had a few quick t-storms last night, with lots of heavy down pours which lasted only a few minutes, but made the drive home from w**k "interesting".

I have the next several days off. Today is my usual Wednesday off. I have a doc appointment with my cardiologist this morning. Tomorrow I have cataract surgery on my left eye, and am taking Friday off to recoup. This will be my regular weekend off, so that is why I planned the cataract surgery for this Thursday.

Todd - The ones who think so-and -so is cool worry me also, especially the ones that think the bigger the better. I have nothing against a Desert Eagle, just not for me, not practical. The ones who want one 'cause it is sooo cool scare the heck out of me.

   Prayers to all in need.

Hmm..

It coudl be worse, you might could have to go around telling people that you have :

'pneumoultramicroscopicsiliconvolcaniosis'.

According ot Guinness Book of world's records in the 70's, It was tghe longest word in the dictionary at the time.

Oh,BTW, pneumoultramicrosopicsiliconvolcaniosis is a certain coal miner's lung disease.

There once was  a man with 'pneumoultramicroscopicsilisonvolcaniosis',

WHo couldn't pronounce it though he was precocious

                                            He said with a grin

as he wiped off his chin

" I'd have an easier time if I had supercalifragilisticexpialidocious"

Sigh

MY back is killing me from grocery shopping.

MOH wants me to go the help pick out new glasses, but I think not. Not today. I can now hardly move. Wanted to go today so MOH could carry the groceries in, as is working the next 3 days.

Have to go fight the Electric/gas company again. I want to pay them lots more money even though they say I owe little money. Like to keep them owing us lots money, not the other way around. That way I get no surprises in the bill if we use more than the budget amount and they get antsy. They owed us enough that  we had NO BILL due for 5 months this ballanced budget reconciliation year end  season!! Now they reset the balanced bill budget TOO LOW, way to low, and heating season is coming up,,,we will have HEAP help this year, but it won't cover ALL heating costs, only supplements us.So...

Have to get my parital this friday IF it is in..will be a whole 5 weeks instead of the 3 weeks its due for. Will have to figure out a way to get there..will go rihtg by Binghamton University, where POTUS will be speaking..you know Secret Service will have blocked off miles around him to speak about the "costs of education" Not a political issue here, just mentionoing the man willst be here.

Must go lie down down. or is it lay down? can never remember which is more correct.

Foo.  I got home from hockey late last night, only to find the oil burner had stopped running and I had no hot water for a shower.  I decided to take the day off (it's very nice out) so I slept late and made the service call after I got up.  I'm still waiting.

But, as I said, it's nice out, so I made some coffee and started decaling the covered hopper for the Saltzburg Salt company.  This will be a car which visits the tannery.  I've always wanted a covered hopper, and this gave me an excuse to buy one.  I messed up one of the decals, so I'll have to re-print it.

Made a change on one of the Mitac drives today. I want to be able to write to permanently write protected disks without having to clip a write notch in them. So I put in a switch that allows me to switch between tab-enabled write protect and forced write enable. Right now it's in tab enabled mode.

Jeff: Drives look good, how is the stay at your fathers? itching to get back to your place yet?

Well today's bike trip wasn't to be, didn't feel all that great when I got up so didn't go. I'm hoping I can go tomorrow but there calling for rain so I might not get to, maybe It will stay away until the afternoon. Cleaned up the workbench a bit,I have to move the bike out of the way anytime I want to work on a project as I don't have a garage to keep the bike in, in the winter I store it in another part of the basement but in the summer Im always working on it so its easier to keep it in the shop, just a pain when Im in the mood to work on railroad projects, lol.

I'm thinking of adding a new industry over the winter but I will have to remove the station that is there. Also still wondering If I can add on to the layout, think it might be to tight of a fit around the furnace though.

Not much went on today. Other than working on the Mitac I watched some TV, played some pinball, had fried chicken for dinner and a slice of watermelon for dessert. I had to redress my leg as the bandage home health put on it last time came loose. Nothing to it. Played a game of Starfleet1 and got my head handed to me, again. I like the sound of the keys on the old IIe. Today's keyboards don't have that metallic chatter the old ones had and they don't last anywhere near as long. I can wear out one of the run-of-the-mill common $15-$40 keyboards in less than six months. Played another old game today. Doom II. Who remembers that one?

Well it's time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

I won´t even try to pronounce that! I need my tongue in working order the coming days!

Good Morning Fellas,

Campaigning has the grips on me! Hardly any time for anything else - other than today´s appointment with my dentist Black Eye

That fire truck of mine proves to be a real winner. It gets so much attention from young families and retired fire fighters. The kids love it, especially when they are allowed to sit behind the wheel, turn on the flashing lights and sound the horn! Nice chance to start a dialogue with their parents....

I will be on the road the next three days - three speeches each day in different locations. Each speech is only about 30 minutes, but, boy, what a strain on my batteries. There are still 30 days of campaigning ahead of me - I hope I´ll be able to get through this unhurt. My old ticker reminds me that I should go a lot slower.

Jeff - I found out that any length of time above three days I spent with my elders is a heavy tax on my patience. I am with you, pal!

Have a good one!

morning coffee in the diner..

GOOD THURSDAY MORNING!!

Today is Thursday, August 22nd, 2013!!!

MAKE IT A GREAT DAY!!!

Today's fun Limerick:

There was a dear lady of Eden,

Who on apples was quite fond of feedin';

She gave one to Adam,

Who said, "Thank you, Madam,"

And then both skedaddled from Eden!

Speaking of 'Skedaddled', where does it come from?:

First off, 'Skedattle' is the wrong way to spell the word, 'skedaddled' is the correct way. and its spelling has been fairly constant since it came into use during the American Civil War.  “Skedaddle” first appeared in written accounts of battles in that war, used to mean “to retreat quickly; to flee” (“As soon as the rebs saw our red breeches … coming through the woods they skedaddled,” 1862).  In military use, there were definite overtones of cowardice under fire in “skedaddle,” but as the word quickly percolated into civilian usage, it came to mean simply “to leave quickly” or “to run away.”

There are a number of theories about the origin of “skedaddle,” but no definite answer to the puzzle.  The relatively sudden appearance of “skedaddle” as a fully-formed word, with no known ancestors in English, tends to argue for its importation from another language. There are theories that attempt to trace “skedaddle” to various Swedish or Danish words but fail on lack of evidence.  It is more probable that “skedaddle” is rooted in the Irish word “sgedadol,” meaning “scattered,” or the Scots word “”skiddle”, meaning “to spill or scatter”.  Given the Scots-Irish heritage of many of the states central to the Civil War, these both seem like reasonable bets.

Obsolete words no longer in use much:

I guess, if they skedaddled, they might have also been said to 'Absquatulate' - 'To make off hurriedly; decamp; abscond'.

With our food bill, sometimes I wonder if we 'Abligurition' - Spending just an inconceivably large amount of money on food. Perhaps it is because i have 'Acrasia' - Lack of self-control; when you act against your better judgment??

Right now, My layout is 'Abnormous '- Misshapen, since I tore it up to expand it {which I haven't the room for as it turns out}.

MAKE IT A GREAT DAY!

Good morning!  Everyone downwind from me is rejoicing, now that my water heater is working and I was able to take a shower.  For today's body maintenance, I think I'll go get a haircut.

Jeffrey, it's good to see you back online, at least.

We booked my wife's return flight last night.  She'll be coming back on September 14th.  She's trying to get her parents to at least try a one-month stay in an assisted living facility.  They love their ocean-front condo, but with that flight of stairs and their limited mobility, they are essentially prisoners in it.  Just going out to dinner is such an undertaking that it doesn't happen.  I'm hoping that getting some first-floor freedom will convince them of what they've been missing for the last couple of years.  There's a lot of silver lining, a lot more of that than cloud.

While waiting for the water heater guys, I spent some productive time putting decals on my covered hopper car.

It's a Bowser undecorated kit, for $13.95 MSRP.  Looks like I may have gotten the last one, as Walthers is now out of them.  It's a nice kit, pretty easy to assemble.  I had to replace the plastic wheels, and the couplers are not Kadees and don't sit well, so those may be upgraded, too.  I made my own decals for it.  I posed this picture on the carfloat, because I'm lazy and that's where the overhead lamp was.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

What on earth is "hassenpfeffer" - which ever way you spell it? Looks like a German word - Hasenpfeffer is a type of ragout from hare, usually quite spicy to overcome the strong taste of game meat.

Good Afternoon Folks,

the dentist appointment went fine - no cavities or anything else annoying. Took a nap, but now I have some difficulties to restart my engines.

Mr. B - I wish your wife luck. I tried to persuade my parents to move into an assisted living facility some years back, but they did not want to give up their house. The end of the story is that my father died on April 18th this year. He could have had some more years if the had followed my plea. My mother returned into the house, but now has to move back into a nursing home. It was mainly her stubbornness which made them stay at home - for the price of my father´s life, she gained 4 months of "freedom".

I hope everyone is doing fine - also all those MIA´s we have!

Hasenpfeffer is a traditional German stew made from marinated rabbit or hare, cut into stewing-meat sized pieces and braised with onions and a marinade made from wine and vinegar. To learn more click HERE.

Exactly!

Ray made a comment about "silly dead bunnies"...If you remember from the USA "bunny" or "bunnies" Or even "bunny rabbit" is another term for rabbit or rabbits {or  hare as you call them}.

If I had silly dead bunnies here, I'd make me some hasenpheffer!!! With  Silly dead bunnies around, the only thing to do is to make some hasenpheffer!!!

Well, erm:

Well, got off the phone with the health insurance people. All is well...for now. I balked at the {over} payment they wanted, glad I did, or I would have WAY overpaid! SO I am happy there. SNAP {food stamps} however cut way down to almost nothing. You know they complain {won't say WHO} about the number of people getting SNAP, but never tell you it amounts to about $16/ MONTH if you have any  earned income at all. That MIGHT buy you a dinner for 4 wih leftovers for one more meaL! GRR. But it will lock in our HEAP this year without separate applying and we get the "first in line" rountine.

Now to go get a script, and get MOH new glasses ordered...go talk to the gas/electric company whre again, I am OVERPAID to PAY them MORE than they want To keep us OVER budget so tgehy owe us! That will sum up my day. SOme laundry and stuff to round out, some shredding of docs, to.

Well, best get busy!
