Hi Folks,

just a quick update on the fire truck - I got it registered as an old timer - meaning reduced rates in tax and insurance - yahoo!

I also received the drawings for the lettering and decalling - looks good to me!

Here is a sneak preview:

How´s your German these days?

well

Still have this nagging headache. Been a week now, every day. Meds for migraines not working..think stress headache over the insurances thingies. That is over with and thought out, so shouldn't be bothering me now. But the weather has always palyed havoc with my headaches, so I think that is helping the pain.

Went to the Bank and the Credit Union. Only reasons we keep the bank accounts, you ask? TOTALLY FREE checking! MAJOR BANK. No requirements. Free to write as many checks, free to have teller do transactions, no min. balance, Free to have. CAN"T hardly find THAT any more without some kind of attachement requirements to get the free checking. Also it's a bit closer than the CU, so good to keep for easy close access. Today they were paving at our usally branch, so went ot the branch down the street from the CU branch,so easy to do.

Wen to the Post Office to mail rent so ti gets there on time.

WEll, will rest the rest of the day. MAYBE headache will go away FINALLY.

Should do dishes and laundry, maybe later.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and a breakfast burrito please. Thanks

Mostly sunny, with a high near 78.

Made some pretty good progress yesterday and still managed to take Brenda to the Chinese buffetYes. Not “mine”, but “hers”. She likes that one too so we split weeks now I guess.  It’s not bad, but she admits International Buffet’s food tastes better. They do have a few different things so I see why once in a while, but she usually gets the stuff both places have so….Tongue Tied?. I think it’s because of the waitressesWink.

First, bookwo*k for the Church, then back up 21 steps to the apartment. Today I need to take my table saw with me for a few things. Hopefully after today, I’ll just have some odds and ends by Wednesday then….I’m doneYeah.

CG JIM!!!!!! Time to check in buddy.

Wish there was a way we could tell the difference between someone just gets busy or directed away for a while disappeared, and somethings wrong disappeared. I’m getting real concerned about Lee. This is not like him. Last time remember Tom (bridge Tom) disappeared for a while suddenly and turned out he had…food poisoning or something that caused him aaaaalllll sorts of problems.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Monday again.  Kind of cloudy with rain expected, high about 80.  At least the nights are cool and I haven't had the AC on in almost a week.

The mortar work on the brick buildings was a success.  I repainted them with a satin finish in a slightly redder brick color.  My problem was using a primer for the brick.  Primer is supposed to allow paint to adhere everywhere, so it was sticking to the brick faces where it wasn't wanted.

Ulrich, I'm glad you've gotten over that stumbling block, but I'd imagine there will be many more.  Keep up the good work, though.  We're behind you, covering your rear like a caboose.

Me again??  Oh well, enjoy yourselves.  The calories don't count today.

GOOD MONDAY MORNING!!!

Today is Monday, July 29th, 2013!!!

I will light the prayer candles at 9 AM for htose in need..

MAKE IT A GREAT DAY!!

now, Don't go 'barking up the wrong tree':

Meaning:

Making a mistake or a false assumption in something you are trying to achieve

Origin:

The short version:

Settlers hunted raccoons, possums and squirrels. Most hunting dogs would chase them up a tree and then bark until their masters came and shot the animals. Sometimes, the animal managed to sneak across to another tree w/o the dog seeing. So, the dog would continue to bark up a tree that didn't have any prey.  Soon, the phrase became known in social circles to mean anyone who is wrong about something and/or is being mislead

A deeper look:

The allusion is to hunting dogs barking at the bottom of trees where they mistakenly think their quarry is hiding.

The earliest known printed citation is in James Kirke Paulding's Westward Ho!, 1832:

"Here he made a note in his book, and I begun to smoke him for one of those fellows that drive a sort of a trade of making books about old Kentuck and the western country: so I thought I'd set him barking up the wrong tree a little, and I told him some stories that were enough to set the Mississippi a-fire; but he put them all down in his book."

The phrase must have caught on in the USA quickly after Hall's book. It appeared in several American newspapers throughout the 1830s; for example, this piece from the Gettysburg newspaper The Adams Sentinel, March 1834:

"Gineral you are barkin' up the wrong tree this time, for I jest see that rackoon jump to the next tree, and afore this he is a mile off in the woods.

(stumbles into the Diner - his eyes half-closed)

Good Morning.

Flo, coffee in an IV bag, please.

Yesterday was the hottest day in decades in Germany. Top temperature reached the 102F mark, even here in the great white north we reached 95F, which means a bedroom temperature of close to 80F - too hot % humid to get a good rest.

The last couple of days have been really busy ones. Good news is that the guy who challenged our list of candidates failed completely and we can now officially run for Bundestag. Campaign time has also officially started and i already held my first campaign speech last Saturday. It was a tremendous success. Feels good to hear the applause from nearly 500 folks! Never thought I could do it, but I am pleased to learn "Yes, I can"...

Today will also be quite busy. I have a dentist´s appointment early in the morning, followed by a run to get the fire truck registered and insured. I also need to talk to the guy doing the lettering and painting of the truck. It´ll have to be ready by the coming weekend, so I have to speed him up a little.

I still miss time to do some MRRing - I wish I had some sort of a layout I could just run a couple of trains on for relaxation. Well, time will come for that.

The roll call I sent out showed, that we are missing more than half of our buddies in here - hope to see them back soon!

Have a good one!

Ray - It's the semi-dry that we like from Prejean's Winery. We have been getting it there for about 13 years now. I have no idea what I'm going to do when I can't make the drive anymore. Hopefully, that will be a few more years down the road though. It's a funny thing, we were not wine drinkers until my nephew got married in Rochester. For something to do one day, we drove down to Seneca Lake on 14 and stopped at each winery for a taste. By lunch, I was getting a buzz. But I did like a lot of the wines from most of the wineries on the western shore. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not a wine snob, I only know what I like. And those wines appeal to me. I don't like the wines on the eastern side of the lake as much, and I don't like any of the Pennsylvania wines. They just aren't as smooth. We do get a couple of bottles from Torrey Ridge, Glenora and some others. But it's the Reisling that makes me happy.

Good evening everyone, I will have a Sea Dog Blueberry ale please! Not much going on here. Been dating, trying to find some one is a full time jobConfused  After a few days of rain it cleared up and was nice out today. Going to get out early in the morning and go run for a few miles. Sometime in the afternoon, I'm going to pull the shell of my New Athearn  SD70 SP Heritage unit to see why the running lights are not working. The person who assembled it  must of had a case of the Mondays! Athearn quality control strikes again!!  Have a good night everyone!!!!

Hi Gang,

Just finished a great supper, Beef Stroganoff with roasted parsnips and garden fresh green beans.   MMMmmm good.

Haven't accomplished much today since Church this morning.  The three degenerative disks in my neck have been nagging me and I have developed some kind of a hard swelling under my right ear and down my neck.  The Sawbones took all the tests and they were all OK, so now it is off to have an Ultrasound next Friday.  This worries me a tad as I have had two different regimes of antibiotics that haven't touched it..

so I spent the afternoon napping, then got the wife's computer back on line, then supper and here I am.

Boy, RAY, that is a very productive little garden you have there.  Your property is looking good.

PAUL, so glad you get to spend time with your kids.  How is your Son doing ? You always mention that you will be skyping with him but thats all we hear.

Young GARY, you seem to be having a hard time making up your mind as how you want your layout to go.What is the latest configuration for it ?

Heartland GARRY,  always love seeing your work posted.  The amazing thing to me is that I can pick out your work without seeing your name.  Also with Dr. Wayne's and Grampy's.. I would only hope someday mine would would reach that point.  Don't hold your breath <<<<<<<<<

JEFF,  If I don't get in again for awhile, I certainly hope and pray all goes well with the foot issue, I'm sure you will be much better off after some rehab time.   Best wishes ol' Buddy.

Anyone see anything of Sue or JR. lately ?  Hope all is well with her and Larry.

JERRY, You are definately raising the stock prices on the Illinois Southern.  Layout is looking good.  Hope you as well are felling better.

ROB., Did you get the drywall repaired and ready for the new layout ?? sure hope so...

ChoochooWillie, Please start sending a little warmer weather down this way.  The Boys in Winnipeg,   CN Charlie, Blind Bruce and Seamonster, and us here in the Gap would sure appreciate it.

Sure glad to see some of the MIA guys coming back in.  I know life gets busy at times, but remember you are always missed in the Diner.

Think I will head down to the LM&E and do a little more to get ready for some landscaping the north mountainous side.  It seems I have been working on it for years.  Need to get this last part done and start on a new section to refresh myself.

Ya all have a great evening,  Prayers and blessings to all.

Good evening all!! Cowboy

Been a lazy day, well, kinda. Confused  After breakfast I cleaned the basement while SWMBO cleaned the upstairs. Ahh yes,, the charm of a rancher, long basement, no 2rd floor! Midnight and Tinkerbell didn't like it though, because we were both running vacuum cleaners at the same time!Mischief Afterwards I flopped my butt down on the couch to watch the stock cars run at Indy. After the race I did manage to fashion a lead truck for my Mikado Project. The original Zamac shattered the other day. The brass replacement should last forever.

Tomorrow I will take a jaunt on the ladder to the top of the garage to retrieve boxes for some locos that will be on ebay soon. I'll be purging some early Atlas and Athearn BB's from the roster. Nothing wrong with them, just don't fit into my operational scheme. Here's one of them now. It's been 2 years since it was run,,,I don't need it.

til tomorrow,

best wishes for us all!

Evenin' folks,

Chloe, I'll have the steak sandwich (use Miracle Whip please), Some fries, and an ear of fresh local sweet corn for supper tonight.  Oh and I'll have a glass of what Tom is having to go along with it.

Tom, Reisling?  Semi or dry?  Was that from Anthony Road or Fox Run?  I love them both....

Been dark and gloomy much of the day with some bright sun for a few minutes off and on...  Currently 67°F with an earlier high of 74°.  Kept the air conditioner off all day and was still quite comfortable here. The MLK picnic that was supposed to be tonight got cancelled as only a few of us could attend.  That gave me some extra time to get a few things done around here.

Did wash today so I got some time to get a bit more scenery done on the layout.  May get a couple photos later tonight for WPF.

The engineer on this little steamer is a Master Model Railroader over in the neighboring NMRA Division...

Catch you all later!

Another Sunday of railfanning has now passed. Not so good today as we only saw 4 trains. However, one mixed freight was pretty interesting. It had a consist of 9 loconotives with the lead being the Savannah & Atlanta Heritage Unit. That makes 2 of those guys I've now seen. Not too optimistic about ever seeing them all.

Dinner tonight was a London Broil, mashed potatoes & gravy, green beans, and a bottle of my favorite wine. That's a Reisling from a winery on the western shore of Seneca Lake. Oh, and for desert there were peanut butter cookies the wife made yesterday.

Tomorrow is grocery shopping & errands day. It doesn't look like a whole lot needs done, so maybe we will get home early for a change. Of course, the day will stary off with breakfast at a diner across the river. It's a 20 minute drive from our house, but worth it. Good food, good coffee and good service. Can't ask for more than that.

Hope everybody had a nice weekend and that you all have a great week.

Mornin' everyone...  Huh?  Wow!  That late already?

OK, Chloe I'll just have a refill on the dark roast coffee then...

Actually I have been sitting here at the computer going through all the photos I took yesterday at the combined Divisions Summer Picnic.  Was a nice day right up until we were about ready to leave.  Around 4 PM it started to sprinkle and withing a few minutes it was a downpour, but we had all packed up and gone home by then.

Currently 71°F outside with a high of 73 later this afternoon.  Another day I have the Air Conditioner turned off and the windows open.  Just have to be watchful as there some rain clouds nearby.  That said old mister sun has been peeking through every now and then....

Oh, yes, I do have some photos to share...  The Finger Lakes Live Steamers yesterday!

They have a new pet out there....  This guy has been hanging around all summer.  Evidently feels quite safe and seems to enjoy being around people.  He does do a quick disappearing act when someone brings a dog out there though!

He was standing about 3' from me when I took the photo...

We got to ride as long as we wanted.

Later!

Good morning!  Missed a day yesterday.  I had plans to drive up to Maine and visit my daughter first thing in the morning.  It's about an hour and a half drive.  But, she was partying a bit much Friday, and texted me to say to show up about lunchtime.  Ah, the best laid plans of mice and men.  I got on the road about a quarter to 11, and hit traffic, all the way up until after the tolls in Maine.  In short, it took about 3 1/2 hours.  The bike ride together we had planned did not happen, but we got to go to Portland, a very nice small city, and have dinner outside at one of the great restaurants that populate the waterfront district.

I had a Fiero, too, about an '85.  It was my last "bachelor car." It had some issues.  When it was gone, it did not miss it.  It was OK if you had another car to carry stuff, but my MGB had more cargo space.  (Dang, I saw two old B's yesterday.  They bring back sweet memories.)

It's getting warm out, and I'm feeling sluggish.  I had a tooth pulled Friday, and I'm on antibiotics and Ibuprofen for that.  Actually, I'm supposed to avoid strenuous activity for a day or two, so it's just as well.  I'm getting back to the discouraging job of mortaring a bunch of brick walls for the tannery.  They're not coming out well, so I'm trying different paints and mortars.  I've also got 3 undecorated freight cars, two old boxcars for "Hide Loading Only" and a hopper for salt, so I can pick what I want to do for a while.

  Morning All,

Currently it is 67 with an expected high of 95. A cooling trend is supposed to start tomorrow, with the highs in the low 90's.

Need to go to Wal-Mart to pick up a few things before it gets too hot, I hope to get some scenery w**k done on the layout today. Yesterday I finished the Brook Hill Dairy building, finished a few small Atlas kits that were give to me as presents, and started on the Walthers Hardwood Furniture kit. Another building with a whole lot of windows.

   Prayers to all in need.

Good morning. It's 70° with 100% humidity. The high will be 92° and will feel like 104°. There's a slight chance of showers this afternoon.

I've finally gotten what amounts to a good nights sleep for me. Close to seven hours. No plans for today. But I'm sure something will come up.

This is an expression meaning death. The phase originates from slaughter houses.  When a cow was to be killed, a bucket was placed under him, while he was being positioned on a hoist. Sometimes, while adjusting the hoist, it made the animals legs jerk and he'd kick the bucket before he was killed

OR, if you prefer:

We all know what a bucket is - and so this phrase appears rather odd. Why should kicking one be associated with dying?

The link between buckets and death was made by at least 1785, when the phrase was defined in Grose’s Dictionary of the Vulgar Tongue:

"To kick the bucket, to die."

One theory as to why, albeit with little evidence to support it, is that the phrase originates from the notion that people hanged themselves by standing on a bucket with a noose around their neck and then kicking the bucket away. There are no citations that relate the phrase to suicide and, in any case, why a bucket? Whenever needing something to stand onpeople generally don't opt for a bucket. This theory doesn't stand up any better than the supposed buckets did.

The mist begins to clear with the fact that in 16th century England bucket had an additional meaning (and in some parts it still has), i.e. a beam or yoke used to hang or carry items. The term may have been introduced into English from the French trébuchet - meaning a balance, or buque - meaning a yoke. That meaning of bucket was referred to in Peter Levins' Manipulus vocabulorum. A dictionarie of English and Latine wordes, 1570:

"A Bucket, beame, tollo."

and was used by Shakespeare in Henry IV Part II, 1597:

"Swifter then he that gibbets on the Brewers Bucket." [to gibbet meant to hang]

The wooden frame that was used to hang animals up by their feet for slaughter was called a bucket. Not unnaturally they were likely to struggle or to spasm after death and hence 'kick the bucket'.

Well I had to change back to a black lettered keyboard on the IIe. The reset button on the white lettered one wouldn't work. Didn't know if the button was defective or there was some conflict with the 65C02 processor. I put the suspect keyboard in a 6502 equipped chassis and tested it. Definitely a defective keyboard. Come to think of it that's exactly why I had the original keyboard in my Apple replaced back in 1986. Played a game of Starfleet1 this evening. I had to hunt down and destroy twenty-five enemy ships. The last one was a cloaked vessel. Kinda hard to find when you can't see them. I finally found the sucker and smoked him like a cheap cigar, but not before he did plenty of damage. The Galactica will be out of service for a while. No train news other than the layout is getting a mite dusty.

afternoon guys

Train club went ok. The guy who offered to "fix" my rapido cars said he only got 2 done. I would have done it myself, but I don't have the tools or materials suggested by a member who runs a ton of passenger stuff. He did say I'll probably need a second engine for it. That's good cause I got a second Kato F40PH and have a lead on a third. I've also found an Atlas GP39-2, 12 more of those walther's coal gons (I would have to renumber them), and some other stuff. I had saved for a while, so I have some $ to burn...

Dennis, Sorry to hear about the car, but at least you're ok.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Been a busy day so far. A trip to Wal-Mart to get seven boxes of 4x4 gauze pad, two rolls of masking tape and a 32oz bottle of 91% alcohol. Then a stop at the bank to make a deposit. Then set in on doing more work on the IIe. Changed out the black lettered keyboard with the white lettered keyboard from my mothers IIe. I can see the white letters easier. It's also the type keyboard mine came with originally. The computers case and the shells of the disk drives have been painted a brushed metallic color similar to that of the platinum model IIe. That's it for now.
