Curt - I'm not surprised that your "with me." I think anyone in Fire / EMS either is in the same boat, or will be. The funny story behind my problems go back to raising a stretcher after we arrived at the ER with a little college girl who couldn't have weighted more than 80 lbs. After my partner got her inside, he came back out with a couple of male nurses to get me off the comcrete. And thas was after years of struggling with 300 lb+ patients onboard aircraft. This was in the years when aircraft aisles were too narrow to permit stretchers or stair chairs. The choice was sometimes to drag them on the floor to the exit, or using an old canvas Reeves Stretcher and literally lift them above the seat backs as you went down the aisle. Never could get over that little petite thing doing me in.

Jeff- I hope you are doing better.

If by better you mean being able to walk without falling over then yes, I'm doing better. Still feeling a little drowsy and I'm a bit dizzy when I stand up but other than that I'm doing better.

*

Got this big beast home today. Drove it all the way.

My nephew thought it was out of gas cuz when he tapped on the tank it sounded the same all the way down. DUH! It's full! He's used to listening to poly tanks. It has a steel tank. Different sound entirely. The problem turned out to be a bad coil. It tested OK when it was static and load tested on the diag machine but when you put the REAL load on it the thing wouldn't light up a Christmas light. Luckily I had an old one rolling around on the floor and it fired up with that. So I need to get a new coil for it. Could have been worse.

Evening All,

Just got back from supper at Beef O'Brady's. Tomorrow I go back to w**k and it's probably going to be extremely busy since it is over the extended 4th of July weekend. I started cleaning up and consolidating in the train room in preparation of the flooring project fast approaching.

Tom- Sorry to hear about your back. I am right there with you buddy.

Jeff- I hope you are doing better.

I will talk to all of you Friday. I hope everybody has a good night and prayers for those in need.

Well, the heating pad didn't do it. Ended up having a couple of episodes of muscle spasms. Called my doctor but couldn't get in, which is really unusual. So we went to the emergency room for a couple of hours. Ended up with prescriptions for pain and a muscle relaxant. The muscle relaxant kicked in about 30 minutes after I took it and has provided a good deal of relief.

Good news is both lawns have been mowed, the first floor has been cleaned, and all the laundry is done. So I'm taking a couple of days to do  absolutely nothing.

So get posting guys so I have something to read...   Laugh

Greetings all...

Having a bit of a problem right now. After cutting the grass in the backyard this morning, I decided to tie up some flowers that the thunderstorms had knocked down. Bad decision apparently, as my back went out. Hasn't happened for some time, and I forgot how bad it hurt. Just got off the heating pad and the wife rubbed in some generous amounts of Aspercream. Will get back on the heating pad in a little bit.

Paul - I Take niacin as well, and had problems with the hot flashes too. A most uncomfortable sensation to say the least. But 2 doctors, one my PCP and the other my nephew, told me to take it with my aspirin, which I also take daily. So far it has worked well for me as I haven't had any more hot flashes.

Yesterday the mailman delivered my Intermountain ES44AC. It is Norfolk Southern's PRR heritage unit. It looks great. Lots of detail, ditch lights front and rear, and nice crisp lettering. I didn't get the one with sound, and now I'm kind of regretting that decision.  I can't show any pictures or tell you how it runs as I was going to take care of both of those items today. But I'm not even thinking about going down to the basement and cleaning my little 4x4 oval test track. Now if I could just catch the prototype all would be well in my little world. I was really jealous of Curt when he posted the photos of it at Horseshoe Curve. I'm glad he got to see it as well as the steam power when he visited our great state.

Okay, that's all for now. It's back to the heating pad. The upside is my wife just said I wan't allowed to do any more chores for a couple of days. We have been through this many, many times over the years. If I take care of it now, I won't end up in physical therapy for the umpteenth time. Take care everybody, and have a great day.

Well

we are still here, but other areas around us have flooded in areas where people never had flooding before!

It IS HUMID, at 70-something percent  at 75* they are saying "tropical".

We DO have some flood stage river levels, so another 2-3 INCHES of rain they are forecasting MAY just push us over!

I am HOPING NOT! 5 days or more  without much electricity isn't FUN. Saves on the bill though!

Flash flood alerts still in place.

I have the DR today see what he says.

Good morning .....

We're enjoying the visit of our grand daughters (12 and 9 1/2). It's cool with some rain here. We took them to swim in the outdoor pool at the nearby state park yesterday, but it rained. They played games in the arcade at the park. We had one of the Seadoos in the lake for a while yesterday morning, but rain ended that too.

Our daugher and her husband in southern AZ are toasting in the high temps this week ...... Very sad about 19 firefighters being killed in the line of duty.

I ran trains for a while for company. (There were other people here too). Not much construction at the moment.

Cheers!

Mornin'!

Zoe, I'll have the #2 special this morning, over easy on the eggs, bacon, home fries, and a double order of sour dough toast to go with my dark roast coffee.  What?  yes make a second pot of it if you would.  I need more than usual this morning.

Today is listed as dull, to quote Barry.  But, since they have removed the threat of thunderboomers and drizzle, I shall head out to camp and try to finish up the one campsite still needing to be trimmed.

Paul, gladly send you some rain, but please keep the 100+ temps out there....  We prefer mid 70's here in the Finger Lakes this time of year.

Later!

 Morning All,

Belated Happy Canada Day to the diners up north.

Currently 78 with an expected high of 107. Very hot and should break all time records here. Sure could use some of the rain some of you folks are having.

Eye doctor appointment this morning. Then vacuuming, laundry, and train work, once my eyes are not so dilated.

I guess I am lucky in that I do not feel side effects from all the drugs I take. It did take me several months to get used to the hot needle feeling from the 2000 mg of niacin I take, but we started with smaller doses and worked up to the 2000 mg. The rest of the drugs I take do not seem to bother me much.

    Prayers to all in need.

Good morning. It's 75° with 72% humidity. The high will be 88°.

For the most part I'm feeling OK today. A little drowsy, a little dizzy once in a while and some difficulty thinking straight. Yesterday I talked to my nephew about getting my van moved out of the Wal-Mart parking lot and relocate it to my driveway. I had to shove aside some thoughts about throwing him down the steps and body slamming him on the porch several times as I was having some problems with my temper yesterday. I try to keep that behavior suppressed but sometimes he can make it really hard. Have I ever mentioned that I have some tendencies toward violence? That was a big problem in my younger days and I still have a problem keeping my temper in check sometimes. I got that from my mother. She learned to control hers. I've never been able to do it as effectively as she did so I had to find other things to direct it to. Believe it or not one of those is model building. Another is working on computers and electronics. You'd be surprised how relaxing working on an old computer can be. I've seen others do it by working on cars. I did that myself for a while but it got to the point it was physically impossible. Now you can probably understand some of the fascination I have for these old Apple computers I'm working on. They're not overly difficult to work on, I don't have to put a lot of concentration into it and if I break it, who cares? I just scour Ebay for a replacement part. The same with the locos I build. Working on them is relaxing. Sometimes I take a couple apart and see if I can improve them. If I need parts, Ebay here I come. Well, I've bored y'all enough. Time to get on with my day.

Jeffrey, I know how you feel about side effects of meds.  I only take a couple of them, for cholesterol and high blood pressure, but I had to work with the doctor and I'm now on my third BP med.  The first made me cough, and the second just made me very tired.  (Those who have dealt with this know the side effects of Lisinopril and Atenolol or other beta-blockers.)  I'm on Losartan for BP now, and it seems to be a better match for me.  But, I've found from talking with others that YOU have to be proactive about these things.  Don't tolerate side effects.

I take nine in total. Two, vitamin D and Lantus have very small side effects and don't cause a problem. Others that I take are for the treatment of angina, hypertension, hyperplaysia, gerd, kidney function, seizure, diabetes and congestive heart failure. These can cause side effects that range from being a minor nuisance to life threatening and singling out which is doing what isn't always easy. Most days I do OK but some days I have some really bad problems.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and a couple scrambled eggs, bacon, hash browns and toast with apple jelly please. Thanks.

A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 70.  Chance of precipitation is 60%.

I was remiss in wishing our Canadian friends a Happy Canada Day yesterday so let me do so belatedly today.

Welp, got the call yesterday from my friend who owns the restaurant and subsequently inherited the apartment above; the tenant is out and the countdown to the new renter begins. I have until the 1st of August to get the apartment redone and ready for the new tenant. Stopped in to see what I was up against and get my supply list going and the wife shows up with daughter in tow (she’d never been up there) and then my friend. Hmm Well, actually the all are my friends individually. Especially ... Confusedmy friend, his daughter and the middle son. Kinda hard to tell something about someone without using their names over the net and not get confusing. Anyway, after they debate a few things and she naturally wins, ( I am consulted and as per tradition, say I don't make suggestions...I just do. A trait that is particularly attractive to both her and her daughterYes. No arguments, no back talk, no....,no nothing. They just say what they want I say if I can do that, and it gets done..... Sometime. Fairly soon....kinda. Pretty much. Another trait of mine they find NOT so attractive. Laugh  ) she asks when am I gonna start and I said… “now I suppose. Just need a couple things from home”. She said she’d be back to help. This was like at 3:30 and I got all the carpet and backing in the whole place removed and she carried every bit of it down to the dumpster and I was done with that by like 5:30. Including another brief visitation from the middle sonWhistling. We like to talkEmbarrassed. I cut carpet into manageable strips when I remove it. Generally I’m by myself or even if I have help, it’s a heck of a lot easier to cut the stuff in two foot strips than fight the whole room or even half. Especially when your help is a 5 foot even, on a good day, woman. Takes a little bit longer but ask anybody who's tried to wrangle a big ole piece of carpet around and down a flight of stairs and they'll say....cut that baby uuuuup!Laugh

Anyway, full w**k day today. Have a few bills to pay then off to ….. actually the same building just upstairs for a bit….., downstairs for a bit. Then upstairs for a bit…., then downstairs for a bit. Kinda like a yoyo.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Good morning, or perhaps it's "marginally acceptable" morning?  75 degrees on the way to work before oh seven hundred, light showers and high humidity.  Yuck.

The 1995 production of "Othello," with Laurence Fishburn and Kenneth Branagh, did a great job of portraying the evil of Iago.  Parts of Venice haven't changed much since the 17th century, and the on-location shots add to the atmosphere of this dark and sexy drama.  It's one to keep in mind when you're looking for a movie and don't want another car chase flick with zombies and red-eyed monsters.

And speaking of European scenes, the Tour de France is on for the next 3 weeks.  This year, they raced on the island of Corsica for the first time.  The scenery is breathtaking, and the video uses it to maximum effect, with helicopters hovering overhead and sweeping through valleys to provide shots of old ruined fortresses, then coming over a ridge to look down on a narrow, winding road with almost 200 cyclists in a pack.  I'd suggest recording the live broadcast in the morning and then watching it at night with a finger on the fast-forward button.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

Don't le the 'green eyed monster' get to you!

Meaning:

Jealousy

The simple origin:

We all know it as jealousy.  But how? It goes back to the Shakespearean play, "Othello" in Act III.  Shakespeare used at cat's green eyes to represent jealousy and referred to it as "the green-eyed monster" in his play.  The phrase 'just caught on'

The whole story:

Green is a color associated with sickness, possibly because people's skin sometimes takes on a slightly yellow/green tinge when they are seriously ill. Green is also the color of many unripe foods that cause stomach pains.

The phrase was used by, and possibly coined by, Shakespeare to denote jealousy, in The Merchant of Venice, 1596:

Portia: How all the other passions fleet to air, As doubtful thoughts, and rash-embraced despair, And shuddering fear, and green-eyed jealousy! O love, Be moderate; allay thy ecstasy, In measure rein thy joy; scant this excess. I feel too much thy blessing: make it less, For fear I surfeit.

In Othello, 1604, Shakespeare also alludes to cats as green-eyed monsters in the way that they play with mice before killing them.

Iago: O, beware, my lord, of jealousy; It is the green-eyed monster which doth mock The meat it feeds on; that cuckold lives in bliss Who, certain of his fate, loves not his wronger; But, O, what damned minutes tells he o'er Who dotes, yet doubts, suspects, yet strongly loves!

Jealousy, do not lift thine ugly head!!

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a refill on my decaf please....

Jeffrey, I hope you get feeling better ASAP!

I didn't go out to camp today...  just as well, it would have been a waste of time and gasoline.  Had a good steady rain most all day.  I did run a few errands needing to get done.  Stopped at the vets to pick up more pill pockets for Blackie and some flea meds for both cats.  Even though they are indoor kitties, they had a bout with fleas last summer so I figured I would keep them free of the things this year.  Then went to the Value Store (Hardware) and bought a new garden rake (My son Matt broke the 40 year old one when he was here...) and finally drove downtown to the hearing place and got more batteries and the little wax screens that keep clogging up on me.  Of course all that was using EV mode on the PiP.  Getting 79 mpg on this tank.  I should be able to get it back up in the low 80s before I need to fill up the fossil fuel bin on her later this week.

Even did a few odds and ends down cellar in the train room while I was washing clothes today.  I got the ceiling and the valence back up where I had to remove it when we ran the new wire for the thermostat on the new furnace.  Only took me 3 months to get that done....

Hope you all have a safe and good night!  Prayers for all in harm's way...

I bought another old Apple IIe computer today to use as a parts source for some of the harder to come by parts. Even if the processor doesn't work it's still worth the $50 (free shipping) I shelled out for it for parts like the keyboard, top cover, knockout tabs and memory chips. FedEx is saying July 5th for delivery. I talked to my nephew about getting my van moved out here even if it can't be fixed right away. I don't like leaving it in town. He'll get a couple of friends to help him move it. Talked with the doc and he says it's definitely the drug side effects that are messing me up. Changing the time I take some of them was suggested. I'll try that and see what happens. No layout work today. The way I was feeling today I didn't even want to look at it. Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Well, well

RAIN RAIN RAIN RAIN RAIN RAIN RAIN RAIN RAIN RAIN RAIN RAIN RAIN RAIN RAIN

GET The picture??

IFF'EN you'all don't hear form me for a couple of days..that is probably due to flooding!

WE don't' flood, bu the electric substation DOES. and it takes about 5 days to unflood and dry out!

THe gas genrator THe {5600 watt kind} doesn't have surge suppressors for electronic items so we don't run TV or computer on it.

Flash flooding is happening and with 7 days PAST of rain, and 7 days FUTURE of rain, it will FLOOD again!

So IFF'EN you'all don't hear,, you'all'll know why!

JEFFREY: yes, side effects can be hell on the body. of course, my temper and agressive comes form Bipolar and comes from "red hair and a temper to match" though my hair is now going mousy brown-gray and the red bead has long given up and gone gray! THEY don't make a Red men's hair and beard dye.

My hips {both} and left knee are telling me i did too much walking Sat. at the Scottish Festival!

Ah well, i have had  largely a day of rest. NEEDED it.

CAn't Wait till the kilt's here...they make women's "skilts" too which I don't think is fair...first they get to wear pants and now a version of our kilts??? They wnat everything we have! TSK TSK.

RAIN ALL DAY, we MAY be facing flooding again!

WEll must start dinner...

After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.

I believe I've found why I'm feeling so bad lately. Many of the meds I take have a long list of side effects. Not only that, many have most of the SAME side effects and different meds can have different side effects hit at the same time. Seems the effects I'm having problems with right now are light headedness, dizziness, confusion, muscle pain, cramps, weakness, drowsiness, memory problems, trouble concentrating, aggressive and even hostile behavior. And that's not even getting into the real serious side effects. Well, it's nice to know there's nothing real serious wrong with me, just the result of a bunch of side effects hitting at once.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a shart stack of blueberry pancakes with maple leaf brand maple syrup and lots of dark roast coffee.  Oh, and I got the bill for our wonderful neighbors to the North today.

Happy Canada Day to all our friends North of the Border!

Today is one of Barry's kind of days I think.  ie: dull dark, damp, and dreary....  Currently 68°F with light rain outside.  High will get all the way up to 70°F today....  Galaxy, are you sure it's July?  The total for the month of June on the solar panels was only 516 kWh.  Month of May was 675 kWh.....  Only thing I can say is that it is still on target for the 4700 kWh it is predicted to make for the year with the current total being 2356 for the first half of the year.

Haven't decided whether to head out to camp this afternoon or wait until later in the week to finish up the campsite that is overgrown...  I certainly have enough things here to get done and since it is precipitation with thunderboomers predicted for this afternoon......

The lady next door called this morning with an apology for the damage done by the little kids in my garden....  She didn't find out about it until last night night when her husband told her.  He didn't want to spoil her one every three years party with friends...  She had brought over  a quarter of a home made strawberry rhubarb pie and some rolls for for me and left them on a chair on my porch.  She also told me her husband said I was great talking to the kids about responsibility and respecting other peoples property...  Believe me I had to fight back the urge to give them a good whack!!!

Well, I can see the handwriting on the wall, so I best get busy if I am to start catching up on some things.... Galaxy, I somehow thought you were born over the "Valley" to the West of where you now live.  I guess you grew up there?

Later!

 Morning All,

Currently it is 78 with an expected high of 103.

I was able to wire up two toggle switches and get them installed on the layout yesterday. I have a mid-day shift today, so I should get the third one wired and installed this evening.

Prayers to all in need, especially the families of the fire fighters in AZ who lost their lives.
