MisterBeasleyJeffrey, I know how you feel about side effects of meds. I only take a couple of them, for cholesterol and high blood pressure, but I had to work with the doctor and I'm now on my third BP med. The first made me cough, and the second just made me very tired. (Those who have dealt with this know the side effects of Lisinopril and Atenolol or other beta-blockers.) I'm on Losartan for BP now, and it seems to be a better match for me. But, I've found from talking with others that YOU have to be proactive about these things. Don't tolerate side effects.
I take nine in total. Two, vitamin D and Lantus have very small side effects and don't cause a problem. Others that I take are for the treatment of angina, hypertension, hyperplaysia, gerd, kidney function, seizure, diabetes and congestive heart failure. These can cause side effects that range from being a minor nuisance to life threatening and singling out which is doing what isn't always easy. Most days I do OK but some days I have some really bad problems.

Good morning. It's 75° with 72% humidity. The high will be 88°.For the most part I'm feeling OK today. A little drowsy, a little dizzy once in a while and some difficulty thinking straight. Yesterday I talked to my nephew about getting my van moved out of the Wal-Mart parking lot and relocate it to my driveway. I had to shove aside some thoughts about throwing him down the steps and body slamming him on the porch several times as I was having some problems with my temper yesterday. I try to keep that behavior suppressed but sometimes he can make it really hard. Have I ever mentioned that I have some tendencies toward violence? That was a big problem in my younger days and I still have a problem keeping my temper in check sometimes. I got that from my mother. She learned to control hers. I've never been able to do it as effectively as she did so I had to find other things to direct it to. Believe it or not one of those is model building. Another is working on computers and electronics. You'd be surprised how relaxing working on an old computer can be. I've seen others do it by working on cars. I did that myself for a while but it got to the point it was physically impossible. Now you can probably understand some of the fascination I have for these old Apple computers I'm working on. They're not overly difficult to work on, I don't have to put a lot of concentration into it and if I break it, who cares? I just scour Ebay for a replacement part. The same with the locos I build. Working on them is relaxing. Sometimes I take a couple apart and see if I can improve them. If I need parts, Ebay here I come. Well, I've bored y'all enough. Time to get on with my day.

Currently 78 with an expected high of 107. Very hot and should break all time records here. Sure could use some of the rain some of you folks are having.
Eye doctor appointment this morning. Then vacuuming, laundry, and train work, once my eyes are not so dilated.
I guess I am lucky in that I do not feel side effects from all the drugs I take. It did take me several months to get used to the hot needle feeling from the 2000 mg of niacin I take, but we started with smaller doses and worked up to the 2000 mg. The rest of the drugs I take do not seem to bother me much.

Today is listed as dull, to quote Barry. But, since they have removed the threat of thunderboomers and drizzle, I shall head out to camp and try to finish up the one campsite still needing to be trimmed.
Paul, gladly send you some rain, but please keep the 100+ temps out there.... We prefer mid 70's here in the Finger Lakes this time of year.

We're enjoying the visit of our grand daughters (12 and 9 1/2). It's cool with some rain here. We took them to swim in the outdoor pool at the nearby state park yesterday, but it rained. They played games in the arcade at the park. We had one of the Seadoos in the lake for a while yesterday morning, but rain ended that too.
Our daugher and her husband in southern AZ are toasting in the high temps this week ...... Very sad about 19 firefighters being killed in the line of duty.
I ran trains for a while for company. (There were other people here too). Not much construction at the moment.

we are still here, but other areas around us have flooded in areas where people never had flooding before!
It IS HUMID, at 70-something percent at 75* they are saying "tropical".
We DO have some flood stage river levels, so another 2-3 INCHES of rain they are forecasting MAY just push us over!
I am HOPING NOT! 5 days or more without much electricity isn't FUN. Saves on the bill though!

Greetings all...
Having a bit of a problem right now. After cutting the grass in the backyard this morning, I decided to tie up some flowers that the thunderstorms had knocked down. Bad decision apparently, as my back went out. Hasn't happened for some time, and I forgot how bad it hurt. Just got off the heating pad and the wife rubbed in some generous amounts of Aspercream. Will get back on the heating pad in a little bit.
Paul - I Take niacin as well, and had problems with the hot flashes too. A most uncomfortable sensation to say the least. But 2 doctors, one my PCP and the other my nephew, told me to take it with my aspirin, which I also take daily. So far it has worked well for me as I haven't had any more hot flashes.
Yesterday the mailman delivered my Intermountain ES44AC. It is Norfolk Southern's PRR heritage unit. It looks great. Lots of detail, ditch lights front and rear, and nice crisp lettering. I didn't get the one with sound, and now I'm kind of regretting that decision. I can't show any pictures or tell you how it runs as I was going to take care of both of those items today. But I'm not even thinking about going down to the basement and cleaning my little 4x4 oval test track. Now if I could just catch the prototype all would be well in my little world. I was really jealous of Curt when he posted the photos of it at Horseshoe Curve. I'm glad he got to see it as well as the steam power when he visited our great state.
Okay, that's all for now. It's back to the heating pad. The upside is my wife just said I wan't allowed to do any more chores for a couple of days. We have been through this many, many times over the years. If I take care of it now, I won't end up in physical therapy for the umpteenth time. Take care everybody, and have a great day.

Well, the heating pad didn't do it. Ended up having a couple of episodes of muscle spasms. Called my doctor but couldn't get in, which is really unusual. So we went to the emergency room for a couple of hours. Ended up with prescriptions for pain and a muscle relaxant. The muscle relaxant kicked in about 30 minutes after I took it and has provided a good deal of relief.
Good news is both lawns have been mowed, the first floor has been cleaned, and all the laundry is done. So I'm taking a couple of days to do absolutely nothing.
So get posting guys so I have something to read...

Just got back from supper at Beef O'Brady's. Tomorrow I go back to w**k and it's probably going to be extremely busy since it is over the extended 4th of July weekend. I started cleaning up and consolidating in the train room in preparation of the flooring project fast approaching.

Got this big beast home today. Drove it all the way.My nephew thought it was out of gas cuz when he tapped on the tank it sounded the same all the way down. DUH! It's full! He's used to listening to poly tanks. It has a steel tank. Different sound entirely. The problem turned out to be a bad coil. It tested OK when it was static and load tested on the diag machine but when you put the REAL load on it the thing wouldn't light up a Christmas light. Luckily I had an old one rolling around on the floor and it fired up with that. So I need to get a new coil for it. Could have been worse.
Curt - I'm not surprised that your "with me." I think anyone in Fire / EMS either is in the same boat, or will be. The funny story behind my problems go back to raising a stretcher after we arrived at the ER with a little college girl who couldn't have weighted more than 80 lbs. After my partner got her inside, he came back out with a couple of male nurses to get me off the comcrete. And thas was after years of struggling with 300 lb+ patients onboard aircraft. This was in the years when aircraft aisles were too narrow to permit stretchers or stair chairs. The choice was sometimes to drag them on the floor to the exit, or using an old canvas Reeves Stretcher and literally lift them above the seat backs as you went down the aisle. Never could get over that little petite thing doing me in.
Nothing special today other than that already reported. We had a surprise thunderstorm pop up this afternoon that wasn't in the forecast. Just means I drove home in the rain. Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

You bet cha. Been there done that for 30 years and have a good many tee shirts to prove it along with a crushed vertebra in my upper back just to make things even more interesting.
Emergency Service/Fire work takes a major toll on a persons body and mind. However, it was a rewarding career none the less.

The SHORT origin:

The longer version:
This is one of those nonsense terms that was only made up as having an attractive alliteration or rhyme, like 'the bee's knees', etc. The words themselves have no inherent meaning, although it is possible that 'hanky-panky' derives as a variant of 'hoky-poky' or 'hocus-pocus'.
The term is first recorded, in relation to its original 'trickery' meaning, in the first edition of 'Punch, or the London Charivari', Vol 1, Sept, 1841:
"Only a little hanky-panky, my lud. The people likes it; they loves to be cheated before their faces. One, two, three—presto—begone. I'll show your ludship as pretty a trick of putting a piece of money in your eye and taking it out of your elbow, as you ever beheld."
The second meaning, which we can't do any better for a definition than to repeat the listing '{Other explicit}' or 'dalliance', especially of a surreptitious nature' has been with us since the middle of the 20th century, as here from George Bernhard Shaw's Geneva, 1939:

Good morning from lovely Massachusetts. The temperature got a few degrees lower than predicted last night, which made for great sleeping after our post-hockey-game festivities in the parking lot. I checked the bedside clock as I turned out the light - 1:22 AM. I was asleep by 1:23 AM. Wednesdays ae always tough.
V8 Dennis - Our gas taxes went up, too, and there's an intra-Party disagreement between the governor and the legislature about whether they should go up even more. The 3 cents a gallon they're talking about, though, will cost me about 30 cents a week, and probably even less after I retire, since most of my driving is the short commute to work.
Galaxy - "Hanky-Panky" always reminds me of the song by the same name by Tommy James and the Shondells. It's one of those that every garage and dorm band in the 60s could do, including mine. It's also one that's in the mix of the cable systems's "oldies" music channel, so I still hear it frequently when workin' on the railroad. I sure wish they had a Big Band channel for when I'm running steam, though.
I'm frankly amazed that my old body has held out as long as it has. I tore my rotator cuff about 20 years ago and had it repaired, but other than that this carcass has served me well. I suppose that everything will go at once, like an old car. It might be the years of serious bicycling I've done. My circulatory system was forced to stay in good shape, while doing basically gentle motions with everything else, almost like physical therapy. In recent years, though, I've spent more time plopped on the couch watching the Tour de France than on the bike. I should change that.

Isolated showers, then scattered showers and thunderstorms after 1pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 77. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
I count myself lucky in the meds department. I do have a back issue which, as you know caused my untimely removal from the military and hence my subsequent early retirement from the fulltime fed job, but it requires no medication, just a careful usage of the back. If I move incorrectly or too far in a direction, I am alerted by an ice pick and if I lucky, a couple hours of ……discomfort, until all returns normal. If not lucky, well then I’m down until who knows when. But like I said, I take no medicine other than Ginseng and am thinkin about a multi-vitamin since I’m getting older now.
Garry- I’m told we do pay a lot more for gas, but last year we went to Texas and found their prices pretty much the same as ours. Missouri was cheaper……, can’t remember what Arkansas was. But don’t think much different than ours either.
Yesterday evening, gas in Williamsville was $3.499 gal.
Welp, full day on the apartment today. I hope I can get more done than yesterday. Pretty much gutting it. New sinks, bath vanity, kithchen counters, rearrange the kitchen cabinets…..today. Yesterday it was replace. Day before it was rearrange. Today we may be back to replace. Who knows. I think the wife will be there today so we'll see. Anyway, ceiling replaced in bathroom and a drop ceiling hung in this storage room off the laundry/ furnace room. Trim. Replace most the tiles in the main room ceiling (it has a drop in there too) replace a couple interior doors and the entrance door…etc. Then on to the entrance stairwell WHICH, can really be done after the new tenant moves in and would probably be MY choice. Moving stuff upstairs has a tendency to mar stuff up so I figure why rush for that when it’s separated from the apartment by a locked door. I mean it's not like some plush entrance way/stairway, the building is over a 100 years old and is in Williamsville, but still.....
Oh well, got the trash bill in the mail yesterday so, best pay that and get cracking.

Good morning. It's 66° with 96% humidity. The high will be 92°.Today I need to get the second half of the grocery shopping done. I also need to get a new ignition coil for the van but that can wait a bit. There's no layout work planned today. I'm going to have to make the park a bit bigger as the track will be running across the front of it. That part of the track will have to detachable so it and the park section can be lifted out to allow access to the a/c unit for cleaning/changing of the filter. That's going to be some interesting designing and building. In other news the junker Apple IIe I'm going to strip for parts is just about at the halfway point on it's trip from Chicopee, Ma. It should be here Friday.

Currently it is 68 with an expected high of 102. With these very high temps, we get a lot of unsettled weather. Yesterday afternoon we had flash flood warnings for a few areas, and dust storm warnings. No rain at my place, but I could barley see across the street because of the dust.
Had my preliminary appointment for cataract surgery yesterday. Surgery will take place Aug. 22 and the other eye on Sep. 5.Since my eyes were dilated most of the day did not get much done. So I will have to make up for it today, laundry, vacuuming, food shopping, and maybe change the oil in the Isuzu PU, all before it gets too hot. So I better get at it.

Yes gang, our gas went up 4 cents per gallon yesterday, now it's $3.49 per gallon. This is the 1st step our of Governors latest tax scheme. In gradual steps, we are going to be adding 40 more cents a gallon over a year and a half! See, there is Hanky-Panky going on at the State House! Last week I found a station at $3.33 and knowing gas was going up, filled the Impala! Not doing much for the holiday,,just chilling. If the sun ever comes out we might go to the in-laws house and float around in the pool, but too many for that lately. Saturday I have to drive to NC to pick up my son and his buddy where we are meeting my sister. 4 1/2 hours down, 4 1/2 hours back. Oh Joy!

***Garry, nothing to report on yet. Still need to figure out how to raise the old one evenly so I can attach leg extensions before starting the new tables to join up to it. At least the walls are repaired and painted (well enough for me anyway) where the N scale shelf project had been.
Weather guessers have predicted from 2" all the way up to 8" of rain here. I expect it to land somewhere in the middle.
