Packer

Evening guys

I think I'm done buying trains for a while, and I'm going to have quite a few cars for sale. I managed to win 4 6-packs of Walthers BN coal gondolas off that auction site. I could have gotten those 24, or 15 Exactrails. Add that to the 13 I already have, I get 37. Of which I have to renumber 24 Sad. Add that to the 20 MDC thralls I have and the 1 athearn RTR one (I have to renumber the MDC ones, as they are numbered for woodchip gons) and I get 58. That's not counting the 17 MDC 3-bays I have.

But I'm looking at selling those MDC 3-bays as they don't really fit in for unit trains on the BN. They seem to be fetching a pretty penny there (last few I've seen have gone for over $15 for BN), so I figure my set with loads should fetch a fair amount. Hopefully enough to buy the Exactrail ones.

Anyone know who can do custom decals? I would need a bunch of white BN numbers. I'm pretty sure the font is helvecta, but the size I don't know.

Jake, so that's about 1 victory every 5 battles? I wonder, are the battles really small? I'm used to the "massive furball" type games. Of course some of them have crazy ammo count, but it's great fun taking 1 F-4 and whipping a "elite" squad of 8 Su-37s. lol

I think the font is California font for the BN. Packer is that Ace combat that you play? I play some other flight games.

Ray:   This one can be tuned to a standard tuning or alternative tuning as well...I tend toward more of a drop D style here. Tonality is pretty dense on this one.....lower in tone but also richer quality I find.

Woke up feeling bad this morning. Dizzy and off balance. I felt better later in the day and got a little bit of restoration work work done on one of the computers. Went to Los Mayas Mexican restaurant with my fatther and step mother for dinner. Now it's time to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Hey there everyone.

Well, in that WoWP game, I have been involved in over 100 battles of which I have scored about 20 victories. I had recently bought a F2A Buffalo in the game and is currently my favorite aircraft. In addition to that, I have a Curtis P-36, Hawk 75M, F3F and F2F. I still have the biplanes mainly because sometimes I find a need to have a small nimble fighter that can put bombs on target.

  Afternoon All,

It is still morning here, but since most of you are in earlier time zones, I figured I would cater to your time.

Currently it is 70 with an expected high of 91. The nights are cooling off, but the days are still quite warm.

Busy day off as usual. Have one load of laundry going, and getting ready to start another. need to vacuum the upstairs, clean the stove, and cook three dinners. Then put the dinners into small one person containers and freeze them so I have some meals for several days. Received 50 feet of 6 conductor telephone cable from Tony's Train Exchange, so I can connect the next Digitrax UP 5 panel, that will give me a total of 7 panels to operate the layout. I also plan on w**king on a few mini-scenes and maybe run a train or two. Also painted the walls of the Walthers Hardwood Furniture building, so I may start to assemble that. Lots of windows to install in that kit also.

  Prayers to all in need.

  Paul

EDIT: I got top so lunch is on me.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe I'll have one of those apple turnover thingies and my usual dark roast coffee in my R&GV RR mug please.

I think something fishy is going on here this morning and it's time to Face the Music!

8 string bass.....  Ah. Barry?  Is it tuned in the normal way but just has double strings for each?  How does it affect the sound of the bass...  Never saw one of them before.

Gotta go mow the lawn.

Later!

Good morning. It's 77° with 93% humidity. It feels like 86° already. The high will be 95° and will feel like 103°.

Not feeling 100% this morning. A little dizzy and my balance is a bit off. It's like the room keeps tilting from one side to the other. Seems like a good idea to stay off my feet and watch the TV for a while. Good thing I had no plans.

Morning all,

Coffee...strong if you please...and an orange juice.

Kinda under the weather here today. I think I caught something with the recent change in the weather from HOT, to rainy, to cool, and back. So, I will just sit over here so as not to give my cold to anyone else and listen to the banter.

Have a great day!

Don.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and a nice helping of S.O.S. please. Thanks.

A chance of drizzle before 10am. Areas of fog before 10am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 79.

Galaxy- Ya I guess I do remember now that you mention it you didn’t have wisdom teeth. Or at least someone has a story nearly identical to yours. Oh well, just a thought. Guy I know has an infection they were blaming on a wisdom tooth and the weather and various other things brought on headaches. Brenda would get bad earaches until she got hers removed. Dr. Payne…..I really think I’d a looked for another dentist. Did you at least ask if there was a giant plant named Seymour somewhere?Laugh

SurpriseWhew, glad I don’t live in Ohio. I know the time change and all but 9 day weeks?! HmmWell you know on second thought, I might get more stuff done.

Oh pet hairDead. That’s right Lee has a Lab. (shakes head) I tell you what we have a Lab so I know what he's talking about. And we have a Kirby. 2 in fact. We also had some others at the same time throughout the years, hand me downs like her Grandmothers brand new  Filter Queen and Mom had a Fairfax, that we inherited, as well as her favorite vacuum that she just loooved when we got married ( some water thing. Can't think of the name now) it came with her instead of a dowrySigh. They've all gone away, but the Kirby's stayed. She's even used others when she used to clean houses. Nothing even comes close to those Kirby’s. Carpet guy told me a couple years ago, adjusted right, a Kirby’s the best vacuum on the market for your carpet. I’ll not disagree with him, nor will I stand and say he is right. I just know that personally, I have found no better vacuum but we’ve never had a Dyson so at least one that is excluded.  And no I don’t go by the black cloth thing. I could suck through the tube and show I pulled stuff with a black cloth. Ask ‘em to try that with your vacuum after theirs. But first say, If there is no dirt at all, then I’ll buy yours, but if there is any dirt, lint whatever, then you give me yours for free. No I didn’t buy them from the salesman. Bought the downstairs one used from the Kirby repair place, paid $200 for it back before we’s married, and the upstairs one was a gift from this guy she used to clean house for. He said he didn’t use it so she could have it. Shoot it’s like what 12 years old now? Say’s 2001 all up front of the handle so ya. (sits back and shakes head) Man time flies.  Got a third too, Mom had this one from the late fifties I think. It still works and works great. It’s just got that old hamper thing where you dump on a piece of newspaper. Messy. The other have removable bags so…well, enough with the vacuum stuff.

Welp, it looks like it’s gonna happenYes. I’m a gonna make itYesYesCoolYes. All I have to do today is pick up the stove and front door, install them, then clean out some junk and put down some underlayment and tile a 4x11 room. I should be cleaned up and outa there today barring any changes the boss lady has, a little after noon if I leave right now and I am. She very well might too. She’s so nice though…, she always just smiles looks up (she’s like 5 foot even and about maybe 90-95 lbs) and says , “oh Todd, you’re gonna hate me but could you..(insert project or change to project here)? I just think it’d look nicer. Don’t  you?” She’s usually right. And she makes some killer bread and butter pickles.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Good Morning

Everything is dull here...we seemed to have found another dull bucket for our viewing pleasure here...

Today will be another one of those file work days...they found a rat's nest that needed cleaning out ...apparently...

Later on I may see about picking up some books on garden railroading and see what kind of landscaping mayhem we will need to do here...

Good morning, Barry, our old vacuum cleaner died last week. I bought a Dyson ball, for pet hair. I’m completely disgusted that the old vacuum didn’t pick up everything this Dyson does.

Tom, it was more of everyone trying to hurry up and get their projects started before sequestration. I’m not getting furloughed but the general public still had it in their mind they needed to get things done. You would be surprised how many bridges are getting rehabilitated, replaced, or built this year.

Flip, Fergie haunts Facebook more than he does the diner I’ve been keeping in touch with him there.

Garry, Dorothy is doing ok; she has been working 9 day weeks since spring so she is a little worn out most of the time.

morning coffee in the diner...

GOOD WEDNESDAY MORNING!!

Today is Wednesday, July 31st!

MAKE IT A GREAT DAY!!!

Just for RAY!!!

Lets 'FACE the Music':

Meaning:

Accept the unpleasant consequences of one's actions

Quick Origin:

When one has an unpleasant situation, one simply grins and bears it and deals with it. This is what a soldier who was being discharged dishonorably had to do. He was given his walking papers, then forced to walk through the ranks of his fellow comrades while instruments played a march for ousted soldiers. The ritual wasn't fun, but the soldier had to deal with it directly. Thus, he had to 'face the music' (instruments playing) along with his fellow soldiers.  Someone might have to face a bad situation that he had no just cause in

The in-depth origin:

The phrase 'face the music' has an agreeable imagery. One can feel that one can picture who was facing what and what music was playing at the time. Regrettably, the documentary records don't point to any clear source for the phrase and often we are at the mercy of plausible speculation. There was, of course, a definitive and unique origin for the expression 'face the music' and whoever coined it was quite certain of the circumstances and the music being referred to. Let's hope at least that one of the following suggestions is the correct one, even though there is no clear evidence to prove it.

A commonly repeated assertion is that 'face the music' originated from the tradition of disgraced officers being 'drummed out' of their regiment. A second popular theory is that it was actors who 'faced the music', i.e. faced the orchestra pit, when they went on stage. A third theory, less likely but quite interesting none the less, was recounted by a member of the choir at a choral concert in Sheffield. It relates to the old UK practice of West Gallery singing. This was singing, literally from the west galleries of English churches, by the common peasantry who weren't allowed to sit in the higher status parts of the church. The theory was that the nobility were obliged to listen to the vernacular songs of the parishioners, often with lyrics that were critical of the ways of the gentry.

It may help to pinpoint the origin to know that the phrase appears to be mid 19th American in origin. The earliest citation I can find for the phrase is from The New Hampshire Statesman & State Journal, August 1834:

"Will the editor of the Courier explain this black affair. We want no equivocation - 'face the music' this time."

Almost all other early citations are American. Sadly, none of them give the slightest clue as to the source, or reason for, the music being faced.

Good evening. I'll have cheese and crackers. I brought some Wisconsin cheese to the Diner. So enjoy some!

Ulrich ............ I bet you have a great "Erdrutsch-Wahlsieg"!

Lee....... I'm very happy to see you again. Big Smile .... We hear a lot about the sequestration. Only DC would use such a big word for budget cuts. Uncle Sam should tighten his belt even more. Can't keep running trillion dollar deficits. I can't say I agree with the choices made for budget cuts however. .... Lee, keep your chin up, and please include the Diner in you busy schedule. .... Jeff sometimes posts his LSW hopper cars, and I think of you then. Hope Dorothy is okay.

Mike (Inch) ... Thanks for commenting. Our schedule was very full. Good times were had by grandkids.

JimCG replied in an email. Said to say hello to each of you. He'll post here soon he says. He's been busy, and I'll let him say what he has been up to when he gets here.

If anybody has time to update Ulrich's list of MIA's, it would be appreciated.

Yeah, Jeffrey, all he did was wrap the opening at the top by the cap with some hardware cloth I had left over from the raised bed garden project....  I cold have done it myself, but I don't get up on roofs anymore!  And my son has my ladder at his house.

The Chimney Sweep arrived a couple hours late, but made the change on the chimney in just a few minutes.  He said to give him $25 and he would be happy.  I gave him $30 for the heck of it....  Hopefully it will keep little birds from fluttering to their death in my stove.  Poor things!

Years ago my parents had problems with swallows coming down the chimney and getting loose in the house. They had a metal grate added to the top of the flue. End of problem.

*

Other than getting my fathers tractor running today was fairly uneventful. There was one thing that made me jump. A chicken hawk slammed into one of my windows. I thought at first it was terminal for the hawk but it got up, stumbled around a bit then flew off going about as straight as a drunk driver on a texting binge. All my windows are Lexan so there was no harm there.

Well, time to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, a nice cup of decaf would really be great right now....

8 string bass???  Hmmm.  I've played a 12 string guitar but my classic only has and needs 6 strings...  8 string Bass????  My old Bass only had 4...  I've seen them with 5.  Gonna have to think about that for a bit I guess.

No word on my iMac yet...  The Chimney Sweep arrived a couple hours late, but made the change on the chimney in just a few minutes.  He said to give him $25 and he would be happy.  I gave him $30 for the heck of it....  Hopefully it will keep little birds from fluttering to their death in my stove.  Poor things!

Had granddaughter #1 over for about an hour early this afternoon.  She wanted to see "Papa's" model railroad so we spent most of the time down in the train room.  I showed her how I do scenery.  I think another year I may have a helper to get some things done.  That would be cool!  Her little sister had a good checkup at the dentist and all of them stayed for a while after they got back from the dentist.  #2 starts preschool this fall.  Both of them are growing like weeds.

I raked the dirt and evened things up for the area in front of the fence (towards the road), got some good grass seed and a bale of straw today.  Lawn is now planted in that spot.  Also puttered around getting some stuff put away here and have almost finished making a Model T Ford pickup Truck for the hillside I have been doing.  Should have it done tomorrow.  Only a bit more scenery to do before I will be finished with that area.  Can't yet tell you why, but the next project needing to get finished is the Blacksmith's shop.  Got an email about it today from a friend.  It has become a priority!

Prayers for all in need!  Good to hear from some folks who haven't been in here for a while...  Later!

Galaxy- I know someone who had bad headaches, not sure if migraines, but caused by many things too. He had his wisdom teeth pulled and headaches went with them. Just a thought to ask if you still have wisdom teeth.

Todd: My wisdom teeth were surgically extracted at age 17 by  Oral surgeon Dr. Payne. No kidding. They were impacted something fierce and would never erupt o n their own. I have a very small mouth. I have very few of my natural teeth left..only 5 left on the top and missing 7 on the bottom, hence the need for the new bottom partial they are making me..

When teh barometric pressure changes I can get them.

I have been under stress lately with the medical stuff, so maybe that too.

Took the prescription stff for the headache but still have to go see my psychatrist tonight {hes a night appt guy} Can't drive so MOH is driving me. The scripts make me to drowsy to drive.

Got my fathers tractor fixed. Just a simple 20amp fuse. Took only a minute to change it out. Took almost forty-five minutes pulling the battery and battery box out and putting them back in. Got the fuse from the old Peerless tractor. You know, it's been sitting for over a year and the battery is still hot.

Mornin,, an irish coffee please and could I get a hog farmers special too. Had a cool damp start to the day here, cloudy with a chance of rain later. We set 2 low temp records, Sunday the old record was 52, we hit 48 and Monday was 54, we hit 49. Highs have been in the 70’s, when they should be in the 80’s, fells more like September than almost August.
Been busy with outside stuff while it’s cooler, even cool enough to set on the porch an enjoy a glass some wine while listenin to the night songs.
