  Morning AllI

Currently it is 45 with an expected high of 75 under partly cloudy skies.

Have an opening shift today, so not much doing before I head in to w**k.

Did get some more track put down yesterday before going to my eye dr, appointment. I have cataracts, and she reccomended I get that taken care of, even though they are not too bad. Her thought is that if I do not my prescriptions will keep changing every 6 months or so, as that is what I am noticing. I keep being able to see better far away without my glasses. So I am waiting to hear back from them to set up an apointment.

Had dinner with my daughters and son-in-law last night, their treat. Made the day easier being with them.

    Prayers to all in need.

Well, officially done with the finals. You can kinda guess how that makes me feel. Big Smile
Lighter by the weight of a ball and chain?

More than that actually.

Good morning.

Not a whole lot going on today. Will work on 109 a little more, and may just get the second coat of paint on the P-38. It has been sitting around for a while and need to get it done soon. Plan on starting the P-51D Mustang afterwards.

Had a visitor this morning who's going to cost me over a hundred bucks! More if I replace stuff that's missing. Supposedly a model railroader. He just showed up out of the blue. His knowledge indicates not much experience, newbie maybe. Calls himself Wayne. I showed him how the DCC system works and he was having a good time running the F unit trio. I went to the bedroom to put away some locos I had been working on and was out of the layout room for maybe five minutes. During this time he'd stopped the train and said he was looking at something I had made. I asked what it was, he told me it was one of the geeps and I told him how I built it. By this time I was putting away the last loco. Then he said he had to go and whoof, he was out the door, into his little car and gone. Pretty sure it was a rental, didn't see what model as I only got a glimpse of it. I came back up front and noticed right away things were not as they should be. One of my four GP9's is gone, the only one lettered for the MGRy. All the others are lettered for the L&A. A small handful of LED's with attached resistors, perhaps a dozen, all I had, are gone. Now the GP9, I don't really mind. I have enough parts to make another one. It mostly Walthers parts. The LED's can be replaced without too much of a problem. I just have to wait for them to become available on Ebay again. No, the thing that really burns my butt is that he turned two of the F units upside down and pumped the trucks full of Pro grade super glue! I had just gotten this trio running again yesterday. The trucks of the lead unit are Proto 2000 with Athearn gears and NWSL ns wheels. I may be able to salvage the wheels. The second unit is a heavy rebuilt metal Varney. That has Kato-built Stewart F3 trucks and a home-made drive. I've looked on Ebay. I found some Athearn F7 trucks that can be adapted to fit the lead unit. They won't fit the second unit without major surgery and I can't find any Kato/Stewart trucks for it. If I seem calm about this believe me, I'm not.  I'm so mad  I could chew steel and spit screws! Now as I said, the second unit uses Stewart trucks and they have to be adapted to fit.

Now as to this goons appearance. Six feet, maybe six feet two inches, perhaps two hundred fifty pounds, blond hair, age about thirty, heavy ridge on the bridge of his nose indicating it may have been broken. Brown eyes. Wrangler jeans, cheap running shoes, silver series I think, gray T-shirt. If anyone gets offered a Walthers type GP9 with Proto 1000 AAR trucks and a PPW can motor please let me know.

Good Morning!!!

Just coffee please, thanks.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms before 1pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 1pm and 4pm, then scattered showers and thunderstorms after 4pm. Cloudy, with a high near 68.  Isn’t that a drawn out way of saying showers and thunderstorms all day? I thought so. Boy, pass one opportunity to mow and you lose it for who knows how long. Best look for the baler.

Barry- You got em. Prayers that is. Hope he heals quick.

Jeff- I don’t mind him talking about the gaming at all. Problem is he talks about it a lot, like 30 to 40 minutes at a time (it’s a small kitchen so you can chat while w**king easily) several times a night as if I know what he’s talking about and I play them as well, even though he knows I don’t. So it would be kinda like me listening to some foreign language and acting interested.Laugh

Well, Like I said earlier, it’s raining so outside w**k is pretty much thrown to the windGrumpy. I will sneak out from time to time and dig up some of those berry starts just because I have to get them out before they  take over again. I can dig in the mud and the moisture is there so they won’t have to rush right out and put them in the ground. But they are Black Raspberries so I thnk you could probably just pitch them on the ground where you want them and they’d take root.Laugh

Brenda has paint chips all over the basement floor as we speak deciding what colors she wants to paint the living room and hallwaySighHmm Which reminds me, she hasn’t finished the bedroom she started two weeks ago yet. She still has two walls and the closet to go. She just might be thinking I’m gonna finish it. Probably one of those things I am supposed to just knowWhistling.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

WOW Jeff! That's just plain insane! I'd think he has to be around there somewhere to know what you have in your house. And I really don't understand the sabotage. Why and for what purpose? Makes NO sense what so ever. You may just have to lock your doors and set up cameras.

Bizarre.

One hopes that you call the police. Not much else can come of this, you likely enough do not have insurance to cover this, and it will probably be below the deductible anyway. But if you catch the animal, you can take him to small claims court, and probably press charges on the theft and the vandalism.

Jeffrey - That's a bad thing to have happen to your train items. I'd start locking the doors and set up a camera or two as suggested in hopes that he comes back while the cameras are going and then you have video proof of him vandalizing the layout again.

One of the things on my list once the ex is out and I have the room, inventory and photo my train items, then make sure my homeowners insurance is enough to cover the value of them. If not, then I'll up the coverage.

Not much in store for me today. Lazy day here.

Take care!

Hopefully, by now the police have received Jeff's phone call.

I can't imagine anybody stealing model trains. If for themsleves, they can not really enjoy stolen stuff. If to sell to others, the trains are unique enough so they would not get far without being noticed.

Like Todd said, it's insane.

Other than that, I hope everyone is having a good day.

There's already people out looking for this creep. Some say he's been sighted and is being followed.

Good to hear that. If it were me,I'd be feeling the same way, Stolen loco? Maybe I can get a replacement. Stolen LEDs and resistors? Again, replacements. But vandalised trucks, let alone ones that require plenty of work to get them to work? THAT would set me off!

Jeff..... You might want to have your Eaby account doing a saved search (or whatever it is called) with key words such as the road name on the engine.

I figure somebody with an ax to grind told him everything to know. The types of locos I have are no secret. They've been shown here and on other forums many times.

I heard from Garry about your day, Jeff.

Jeff, I sure hope they (so to speak, not advocating any vigilante justice, deserved as it may be at times...Whistling) that they - Cowboy police, preferably, catch him. So the jerk can get a record, to follow him if he moves elsewhere and tries to pull that kind of stunt again. Then when the police go checking on him in the new locale, they'll have even more ammunition to put him away on charges for a longer time...Grumpy

And that about the glue in the gearing? That's just plain stupid, mean and spiteful (fits in with your impression of him as a newbie who doesn't know much at all about MRR'ing). Appears he either didn't have somebody to teach him very well (or that he didn't listen, if they did).

Angel Angel for justice to be served, and for El Stupido to get his due 'rewards' (plus court costs, and having to reimburse you for the damage and the stolen items, Jeff).

Jim in Cape G. (and I'll try to catch up later this evening)

P.S. Anybody ask Vinnie yet about, uh... "giving this matter his personal attention?"Whistling

No need. Friends and family are already involved. Most of them are from the Native American side of the family not to mention a bunch of rednecks. He's already been given the option of handing the stuff over or being turned over to the constabulary. One of my relatives is bringing the stuff back as I type this. I just talked to him a little while ago. 'Wayne' has a few dozen reasons, most of whom are mad at him, to make good on this. Turns out he's a local. And no, nobody laid a finger on him. It's in his best interest to see that this doesn't happen again. If it does he'll be the first one that gets turned over.

I've been working on the trucks and I got lucky. They're very slick plastic and there's enough lube that the glue couldn't stick real good. I'm able to easily pry most of it loose and it's coming off of the gears real good. If this keeps up I'll have the trio back in operation by Monday. The Kato/Stewart trucks are being a bit of a problem as the glue set around the anchor points on the side frames. If I have to break one or two off that's OK as I have a few replacements. I'm told I should have my stuff back in a couple of hours. From now on nobody visits without being invited and they're going to be watched every second. No more open house.

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, Beer Pleases.

Looks like I have had a better day than Jeffery. I have to ask, why did you let him in Jeffery? I have had people over from the site that I have meet on line but that has been about it.

My Day, well I was off so that part was good. Cashed the Tax Refund Check and scored $310.50 in half dollars! Big Smile Have yet to go through all of them, so far only $60.00 or so. I wounder if I will ever finishes my Kennedy Half Dollar collection? Stopped by a local Pawn Shop today and found out silver prices had dropped. Was able to pick up a 1965,1966, 1967 and 1968D Kennedy half's for $4.00 each! Yes Couple years ago I had to sale the same Pawn shop the same dates and got $5.50 each so in a way I made a profit.

Train Front Got the PK2 B&O GP 30 speed matched to the B&O PK2 SD 7 and 9 today. The GP 30 still moans, guess I will live with it. I wounder if the other B&O GP 30's will moan as well? I sure hope not.

Selling My 68 Road Runner? Not sure beyond a doubt yet, but I think it is time. Kind of a earth shattering event to me. Mom and Dad bought the car new and I was 12 then, I got it when I was 17. Young guy named Gino  left a note asking me if it was for sale. We have talked a few times on the phone. He is 28 years old and not super car smart but not stupid. He told me to throw out the first number and I did at $6,000.00. He wants to meet me Monday and is bring cash. Will see how much cash, right now I am not hurting for money.

We will see, I have not been trying to sale the car, but I finally realizes I will never work on her again. I have told him if he uses anything bigger than 15 inch wheels on the car I will hunt him down and hurt him! Laugh Is it time to let go? Not sure yet.

Been outside shaping the loads for my 20 Thrall gons. The Athearn RTR one I got arrived yesterday and the coal load that came with it looks like mine anyways, so it stays. Tomorrow I'll see about getting a large can of flat black paint. I'd use up like 3 of the tubes of cheap dolllar store craft paint for them all. And I still have to make the 13 loads for my Walther's cars coming in, and do some of the MDC 3-bays I have.

Jeff, That's kinda weird someone would do that, but at least you're getting your stuff back. I still have no idea on who stole the horns off of my F45 and SD45...

I now have 2 C30-7s and an ATSF SD40-2 there. The GEs have horns with a long tab that is bent over inside the shells and CA'd in place. The SD40-2 has a small pin pin going through the horn peg on the inside. They aren't coming off without taking them apart...

Ken, is the world ending?

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Well I have my stuff back. Here's the apparent item of the guys desires. I guess I can't blame him. It is somewhat unique in that there's not another one like it. He had wrapped it in some paper towels so he was trying to protect it.

Evenin' Folks!

Aaaaaahhhhhhh!  Feels good to sit down and relax for a bit.  Janie just a cup of decaf for me tonight!

Spent most of the day over at my son's house today, or at least with them.  Went over early this morning to follow them over to see the girls march in the Pee-raid.  By the the time we got got there the Village of Waterloo, NY was already full and there weren't any parking places left.  The girls and mom got to the where the Girl Scout troop was forming up and my son and I left to get a parking spaces within an easy walking distance.  He managed to get the last parking spot downtown and I parked about half a mile down the street and had to walk back up to the center of town.

Waterloo, being the birthplace of Memorial Day goes all out for the weekend!  Today was the main (several mile long) parade with most everything you would expect:  Horses, Bands, old cars, fife and drum corp, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, about a dozen or so old John Deere tractors of the two cylinder type (local Club) fire engines, Motorcycles, Ambulances.  They had floats for every branch of the armed services and something for every war we have ever been in as a country except the War of 1812, and nobody ever celebrates THAT one!  There was the Revolutionary War, the Civil War complete with freed slaves, the first World war, the second World War, a large contingent of Veterans from the Korean Conflict, many still able to walk while the others rode on a flatbed truck.  Then came the Vietnam war, the war in Iraq (both of them), Afghanistan, and some ones we haven't been in yet (as the guys holding the rifles were between the age of 6 and 10 I think).....  This was followed by my running into and shaking hands with a state politician who had marched in the parade and was now running up and down the street shaking everyone's hand in hopes of going back to Albany for his 20th or so term....  On a serious note the group that was the most thought provoking and got a huge ovation as they passed by was the veterans that are wheelchair bound from the Veterans Hospital in Canandaigua, NY.  There were a lot of them...  Keeps us mindful of the cost.......Sad

All this was followed by reuniting with DIL and the Granddaughters whereupon we had lunch at the Rotarian Booth.  My son and I took off for his house in my car and DIL and the girls decided to stay for a bit longer.  I then went home to mow the lawn as is proper protocol for Memorial Day weekend around these parts.  Then I headed back over to son's house for supper!  Have to be at the Museum tomorrow so I will be heading to catch some Zzz shortly.

Family was going over for the Fireworks display tonight.  Actually the events there started yesterday and will continue with everything from the above to the firing of a Black Powder Cannon several times each day, a 5K run, Civil War Church Service, Classic and Antique Car show, Horse and Wagon Rides, Concerts, Boat tours, Wine Tastings, and a Veterans Biker Rally on Monday to name just a few of the over 50 different events.  Did I mention they go all out for this weekend?

Jeffrey, glad you got the stolen goods back!  Is the perp still able to walk, or is he in a hole buried up to his head which has honey smeared on it???  (Old native punishment...  Ants love honey!)

Ken.....????  You are selling the CAR!?  The Road Runner?!?  Whoa!

Prayers for all in need!

Don't I wish! No, he had a choice. He could be handed over to the local constabulary or he could stay far away from my door from now on. He'll be watched. If he comes near my place again he'll be turned over so fast his hair will fall out. You don't want to be on their naughty list. These people don't play, and some of them are cops. I have a lot of friends here.

Jeffrey- It's the people like him that give's the honest model railroaders a bad name. I'm glad you got your stuff back.  Otto

Good Evening, Janie - I'll have a hot fudge sundae and a CAW mug of decaf, please. Thank you!

"JaBear"

JimRCGMO, no offence taken either, don't recollect where my signature "quote" actually came from.  I have always tried to live as an optimist but find as I'm getting older I find that I'm now more of a "cynical optimist" Laugh''

Isn't Google Maps good value, in the space of 10 minutes I've managed to "visit" Williamsville, The Rochester & Genesee Valley Railroad Museum, and Cape Girardeau, I take it that is a rather large cement plant, south of town Jim ??

JaBear - yep, I might qualify as a 'modified' optimist (Lessee - how was it Reagan said? "Trust & verify?" or something like that...) Wink (AKA there are no perfect people - on this earth, anyway). After you mentioned the Lone Star place south of Cape, I looked at it and was surprised to see the quarry with the conveyor across/over the street from the part I've been by (which I think is more of an office where I would pick up outgoing packages years ago when I w**ked for Airborne Express - now DHL - as a driver one summer). That is way bigger than I realized.Surprise Oh, the word in this part of the USA around Todd we might call "prairie" (as in "Plywood Prairie," a term which you may have heard in MRR circles...)

Mr. B., DEFINITELY congratulations are due your daughter for the Summa *** Laude (and even moreso since she's in the sciences, where I doubt that she was able to take much of any classes like Basketweaving 101, etc.(No offense if any of you Diners majored in that...Whistling). And while her boyfriend may have cringed at the mis-labeling of tics, I bet he got the joke.Smile, Wink & Grin LIke your saddle tanker, also.

And Karl - kudos to your son as well! He's a tall guy, all right (unless you're actually short, which I wouldn't guess).

CN Charlie - about your photos (of the trip, and/or of any progress on the new layout you've been w**king on), send away! I sent you an email so you know the address for sure. (If you have large ones or several, just zip them and I'll unstuff 'em on my end).

Vincent (Packer), I'd agree on that top layout plan. But then again, I like switching industry tracks. Wink

Galaxy, you're sure the Hawaii trip isn't because you're running low on those shirts? Smile, Wink & Grin I have heard that it's beautiful out there (my folks went there back when they both were still living)

CB&Q Garry - good to hear your doctor gave you a good report. Thumbs Up And it's great to hear that Gus has improved well enough to go home and recuperate the rest of the way there. May he continue to heal. AngelAngel Thank you for the compliments. However, since my earlier post of those pics, I have not made much progress (unless we count thinking about what I might do..)

Ulrich, where do we write for those absentee ballots? I'll find a German-English translation website if I need it...Whistling Hey, nice layout design for Vincent (and that version showing possible building locations looks really nice! Thumbs Up

Ken, you reminded me - I wasn't sure if I had mentioned that I did (finally...) see my Missouri tax refund arrive in the credit union account. Smile (I owed on the federal income tax this year (due to not having enough taxes taken out of my Soc.Sec. checks - ah, well...)Sigh But have adjusted that for this year and the 2013 return. And as for E.T. (Tyler, that is, not the funny-looking one that phones home...), I think ET's head has more derailments and messed-up-ness than the BNSF-UP wreck that we had south of here recently. (Saw about that, that it was the third derailment this year - okay, this last one was actually a wreck; somebody did not check the turnouts before proceeding, I suspect)

SP&S Gary - I'm guessing you were talking about the (HO? or was this N?) scale length, right?

Ray, did I hear you call John Allen's Timesaver design "fun"? Laugh Hmm, you really did, eh? Wink Lovely photo of granddaughter #2 there. Thumbs Up

SEWiscMike - take care of yourself, guy! Surprise Cracked ribs (I understand from a friend or two who had them - I've managed to avoid them myself) are not fun at all. Black Eye Maybe slow it down a little...

Rob, good to hear from you. And may you get back to the layout soon! Yeah How has your weather there been holding up lately?

Jeffrey, excellent to hear that your stuff is being returned to you (and that the glue appears to not have done any damage that cannot be fixed). Amazing what some well-placed "peer pressure" can do to 'persuade' the perp, isn't it? As for the "friend" that he was "a friend of", you may want to think twice about THAT person's recommendations, perhaps. As you said, more caution and watch 'em like a hawk if they're around/in your place...

Daughter & SIL got back tonight; I had replaced a burned out flood lamp in one of 2 kitchen ceiling sockets for them, and picked up another box of Joey (their dog)'s moist dogfood (so they wouldn't have to go to the store for it). Have been 'dog-sitting sorta, while they were on vacation to Florida (beach trip, rather than Disney World, to which I think they have gone earlier).

About time for me to head back for bedtime, so I'll catch up the rest of the way tomorrow, I hope.

AngelAngel for the people in Oklahoma (saw on the news tonight that Moore, OK has had 7 tornadoes while one of the kids who graduated there today was in school there). And prayers also for healing for those Diners (& friends, and family members) in need of that, and for comfort (such as, for hurting ribs and other areas). And may all of you have a good night's rest! See you tomorrow.

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape G.

It looks like I'll have the F unit trio back in operation tomorrow. The super glue never really adhered to the parts in the trucks. Most of it came out in chunks and the rest was easily pried out with a small screwdriver. Thank the slick plastic and the ATF oil for that. I broke a couple of side frames on the second unit but I have spares and they were easily replaced. Getting the glue out of the gear teeth was the hardest part but that too is done. The trio should be running again by noon.

It's been a hectic day for me and it's past time to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow which hopefully will be a normal day.

Jim, N scale lengths.

Jeff, that's good! I'd say what would happen to someone whom steals my stuff but I'd rather not.

Morning coffee in the diner with friends...

GOOD SUNDAY MORNING!!!

Today is Sunday May 26th, 2013!!!

I lit the prayer candles and said the healing prayers for those in need...

MAKE IT A GREAT DAY!!!

Gravy TRAIN:

This is not about drippy juice running all over. The phrase means anyone who has an easy task or job that pays a lot but doesn't really work for it as "being on the gravy train" or "riding the gravy train." The phrase originates with  the fact that gravy is an automatic by-product when you cook a roast. The juices to make gravy are automatically there when the roast is done. Also,  Train travel was very popular, particularly during the 1920's. Men who worked on the railroad used the phrase "gravy train" to mean any job they did that paid well, but wasn't hard. The term then slipped into society's language

POSH:

It means elegant in today's chat. But, the origin is really a sailing acronym.  Port. Out. Starboard. Home.  Portside rooms were most liked. Starboard quarters were the most expensive because they did not face the sun and were less hot when heading home.  The New Yorker magazine first used the acronym in 1952 to describe such a room

Geeked

-G .

Just my thoughts, ideas, opinions and experiences. Others may vary.

 HO and N Scale.

After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and the Sunday Breakfast buffet please. Thanks.

Showers and thunderstorms likely. Cloudy, with a high near 69.

Jeffrey- I understand the guy’s coming in all interested in trains intending to take something. Do you know why he tried to ruin something while he was there? That’s what I don’t get. What’s the reasoning behind that? I mean it’s not like you were in a model building contest or anything.

Jim- Rural/small town folks are generally easier to befriend quickly. They're more wary and are a bit more stand-offish at first, but succumb more quickly to a friendly demeaner and a smile. Bigger city folks are less likely to let someone they don’t know in their house due to the crime they have, whereas like here in Williamsville we have very little crime if any other than your penny-ante stuff, like some kids bike's missing or some other kids car was broke into by more than likely one of his acquaintances from Springfield liked his stereo and then....came.....over late....one......Confused kind like Jeff's deal. Sorta. Anyway, so we just don’t think about it. Now that’s not necessarily true here any more (the not think of crime part. The low crime part is still true) due to our closing proximity to Springfield  we are a bit more guarded than we used to be when I was a kid. Could be that you take a bigger chance among rural folk that you’ll be dealing with the end of a firearm that will hurt you too. Just throwin that out as a possibility.

Well it’s raining again and according to the forecast,it won’t dry enough between rains to mow until Tuesday, or “Tooze-day” as the Cherokee say when asked “how do you say Tuesday.”

Don’t know what I’ll do today to keep me from the choo choo room. Brenda has that evil eye going on like she’s waiting for me to start to do something I want to do so she can inflict another well aimed lobbing of a leisure time ending chore. Kinda like a wolf maintaining supremacy in the pack.

Didn’t dig any berries yesterday either cause well….I just didn’t feel like itSleep. Rainy gloomy days do that to me. But talked to my little friend last night and she said she was fine with that, anytime will be ok and she’ll take as many as I give her as often as I want. I said good how about later this week. She said perfect, bring ‘em to w**k with you Friday, and I said ok. She replied……., I won’t hold my breath. Hmm I wonder what thaaaaaat meant? Hmm

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!
