Time for me to call it a night. Worked on the Dash 8-40B today. The headlight likes to drop down into the cab and light up the windows. I'll take it apart when I have the chance and see what can be done. I already had it open today checking over the wires. I found that the screw holes for the screws that hold the coupler pockets were stripped out. I substituted somewhat larger brass screws so now they're tight. Also looked over the Athearn F7A. Blue box undecorated body, hex drive, very quiet. It looks brand new. There was a blue box Santa Fe Warbonnet F7A body available so I put that on the chassis of my lead Frankenstein F unit. Nice splash of color. See y'all tomorrow.

I had my post-surgery examination today: all went well, the surgeon is very happy that my hands and feet are falling asleep (pins and needles) because that means my body is using all the extra calcium I’m taking.  6 more months and I should be as good as new….

Lee, great news.

Hey fellas, how's it going? Thanks for the kudos on the diorama everyone! I've been working on the benchwork for the next layout this week, so no progress yet on the highway bridge. Tomorrow, I MAY actually get the build started. I know I'll have the modules done; a video will explain that process.

In other hobby news, I also love auto racing, and gymkhana is SORTA an auto racing venue...anyways, check out Ken Block's GYMKHANA FIVE video. It starts out a bit slow, but really picks up...I think the streetcars are the best part. And yes, that really is a ford FIESTA with 650 HORSEPOWER and 0-60 in 1.8 seconds...gymkhana three lists the torque at 660 ft-lbs at the wheel, but 0-60 is 1.9 seconds...all this from a vehicle that, stock, is a 120 hp, 112 ft-lb small car.

Oh, and gymkhana is kinda like parcoure, but with cars...

Ulrich!

The number of applications you have made is impressive, and the fact that 15% of them garnered a response says something about the quality of your apps.

Almost all companies today qualify their advertisements by saying that only those who are successful will be contacted. Your response rate tells you that you are doing something right! It costs money to respond to an unsuccessful applicant. The fact that they are responding means that they are showing you respect for your qualifications.

I know full well that that doesn't get you a pay cheque, but I don't think you are the problem. The economy is!

Dave

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!

Dave - thank you for your words! While the German economy is not booming, its doing fine when compared to other European countries. Unemployment is at an all time low and there is still growth. Unfortunately, the German job market discriminates older people, not openly though. The number of folks over 50 being out of a job is constantly increasing, yet out government thinks we have to "import" qualified people from places like India, Pakistan and the like.

No, Zoe, that´s not a rant, just facts. How about some coffee for me, please.

Good Morning!

It´s 13 C and wet outside - our usual summer.

Darren took care of a nasty post in which I was called Mr. Jackboots and the forum Nazi for not approving an off-topic post.. That´s heavy stuff. In Germany, I´d pull this guy to court for that. I may be a little over sensitive or I just need a break from being a moderator. My skin´s not as thick as it used to be these days.

Welp, the HD list is waiting ...

Blessings!

Good morning. It's 72°F and cloudy. Humidity is 100%. The high will be 85°F. Showers and thunderstorms are likely.

I'm going to be working on the Dash 8-40B today. The wires for the front headlight need to lengthened, left rail pickup from the front truck is non-existent and the wheels are quite dirty. I also need to rework the front light so it's enclosed better and is more securely attached to the top of the cab. It's an LED so heat isn't an issue. Depending on how much free time I have I may be able to get it all done today.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and a sweet roll please, thanks.

A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 91.

Not much to report as not much is happening today other than just stuff. Oh the water main broke coming from Springfield to our water tower so we are under a boil order and a conserve water order til who knows when. They drained the tower to be safe. How much I don’t know, but I had to laugh. I said when we had our own water uptown, the water on a good day was way worse than this water could ever be.Dead

Oh and gotta take Brenda’s neeeew car back to Lincoln today. She just picked it up last night. Third Brake light is falling down. (probably just needs re snapped in, but I told her let the dealer do it if something is weekend and I snap it, then I buy it. This way, they do.) See? I hardly do anything with cars anymore. Aaahhh the retired life……Laugh Laugh

Good morning, Diners.  Chloe, I would like a large black coffee to start the day.  Work was the best thing for my flat fingers.  The middle finger is still numb, so I plan to get a dental xray of it this morning to make sure it is not broken.  The doctors don't do anything for a broken finger, but knowing will change what I do during the healing time.

On another note,  Jeffrey,  I can't wait to see your finished result.  I like this guy.Thumbs Up

Good Morning Modelers!

It's 63F and Clear right now and heading to the low 90's.  This morning news is reporting two new fires breaking out in Western Colorado now but so far they sound small and under control.  The two major fires that destroyed so many homes are both now 100% controlled thanks to the heroic efforts by the Fire Fighters and Mother Nature tossing in some rain finally

Good Afternoon.

It´s actually early evening here in the land of sausages & cabbage heads. I just ran the evening train down the line, the highlight of an otherwise dull day.

I need to something about my thinking - too many dark thoughts keep pulling me down.

Zoe, a mug o´hot chocolate, please and I certainly won´t mind you adding a swig out of that bottle over there.

Eating (or drinking) chocolate is supposed to make you feel happy, but I am afraid I won´t be able to eat enough of it to actually make me feel the effects.

W<elp, Petra´s calling for supper.

The problems I listed with the Dash 8-40B have been corrected. The pickup problem with the front truck turned out to be a loose wire. I cleaned up the wheels some. They still look dirty but the pickup is much better. Later I'll clean them with Krud Kutter then rinse them with alcohol. The problems with the front headlight were fairly simple to fix. The metal tube the LED fits into was held in place with a loop of electrical tape. The adhesive on electrical tape isn't the best for this and combined with with gravity it couldn't hold the tube in place. I removed all the tape. I blacked out the front windows with a strip of tape then placed the light tube where I needed it to be and drizzled hot glue over and to either side of it. Using a small flat point screwdriver I moved it to the exact position it needed to be and held it there until the hot glue cooled. I also wrapped a strip of tape around the LED so the light only shows directly ahead instead of ahead and to the sides as it was doing. The locos headlight now looks the way it should look (a bit too white for my taste but it'll do) with no bleed over to the windows or into the cab. The headlight wire problem was corrected by simply adding a two inch piece of wire to the shorter of the two wires. The loco is now running long hood forward at the end of a three loco consist comprised of a Bachmann GP38-2, my Atlas SD27J and of course the Walthers Dash 8-40B. Speed matching it to the other two locos (both with Bachmann decoders) was fairly simple as it has a Digitrax DH123 decoder. I may have a potential customer for the undec Athearn F7A so I'm not going to do anything to it at this time.

Morning all from SunnyHOTCal.   Headed to 105 today, it's been averaging about 103 for the past four days.  Yes, the Eastern heat wave moved west BIG TIME!   Needless to say, any MR activity in the garage has been either early in the morning or late in the evening with the fan on full blast.    It's a dry heat, so it's not really oppressive, but if you forget and don't have water with you, it can get pretty nasty as the heat prostration sets in.

Well, on my 8th day without a cigarette, and both my physician and my nephrologist are happier than little clams at my blood pressure (120/60--probably the lowest it's been since I was a teenager), but unfortunately, I seem to be trading one addiction for another.  Ice cream.  Gotta watch that stuff.  I lost about 50 pounds when I had my kidney disease, and I've been really good about keeping it off, but right now I can't pass the freezer compartment at my supermarket without salivating over all of the neat ice cream flavors there.  I seem to have developed an all-inclusive hunger for Neopolitan with chocolate sauce and bananas.  That's all I need to do is start putting weight on and watch the old BP soar right back into the Danger Zone.

Speaking of smoking (or not), I had a rather interesting experience the other day in the supermarket.  I was at the checkstand and the clerk asked me if I needed cigarettes (they all know me over there).  I smiled and told him that I'd quit.  He congratulated me.  The lady behind me suddenly snorted, "Well, at least I don't have to put up with YOUR second-hand smoke, anymore!"  I was pretty surprised, both at her comment and the rudeness of it.  I didn't know her, and since I'm retired and don't have to be nice to people if I don't want to, I simply smiled and calmly said, "Now if I could only say the same about your automobile exhaust emissions."   Shut her up pretty damned good, it did  (actually, she looked a little like that nasty little Harridan on TV called Judge Judy, LOL!).

Sue;  I remember you asking if the heat affected the track in the garage.  Actually, not much, even though it's uninsulated.  about 95% of my track is ballasted down.   the only 'kink' I've had trouble with so far this summer is one that was kind of 'built in' when I tore out some of my wide-radius (34-36")  EZ track curves and re-laid them with flex.  Frankly, I should have left the EZ track in.  Flex curves and I are not exactly famous for getting along well, LOL!  I get too impatient laying track.  Just me, understand.

Jeff/Sackel:  Belated Happy B-Day to you both.  Hope you both had a good one.

Sawyer:  I LIKE that diorama.  Wow, talk about LUSH vegetation. Thumbs Up

Well, that's about it from SunnyCal today.  I have to come to a decision--Bruce's Trains has a brass Westside SP 4-10-2 in their display case on consignment, and the guy only wants $450 for it.  Runs like a champ.  Unpainted, of course, but a real sweetheart of a locomotive--30" minimum radius (try finding THAT in a brass 4-10-2 these days, LOL!).   Should I, or shouldn't I?  Decisions, decisions----

Best to all, prayers to those in need

Tom

Where?

I got back from the Museum with just enough time to feed the cats and myself lunch and drive over to the Hearing Center.  I think we are making progress getting the hearing aids to be comfortable and to do what I need and want them to do.  I have been doing the laundry today so I have to play, ah, stay in the train rooms while the washer runs........ Whistling  I've been rebuilding a small trestle bridge over the ravine on the lower route (To/from staging) to add some more supports.  I also added some "O" scale rivet decals to pretend to be large bolt heads on the structure as well.  I think they will do nicely.....

Chloe, I'll have a large glass of unsweetened iced tea to tide me over to dinner.  Thank you!

Evening guys

Been busy with life for the past few days.

Yesterday I got the oil changed, lawn mowed, and found my engine that has the TCS A6X. I would buy another A6X but they are close to 30 bucks each. My Atlas U33C and P2K SD7 will have a decoder swap (NCE D15 for a TCS A6X) so it won't cost me anything but some time. I may pull the MRC sounder out of one of my SD9s for temporary use in the SD7 so I can run it alone.

In the next couple of weeks I'm going to be burning a bunch of money. Buying subframes for my car (so I can use slicks when going racing) and a big order to MB Klien for various stuff (stripper, couplers, wheelsets, and some other odds and ends). That still doesn't include the parts order to bowser, but that's being put on the back burner until I have my F-units all ready to detail up.

Galaxy, Happy anniversary.

Galaxy and Darren, As for the "if you say so" and you "Yes dear," it's no wonder I stay single and don't date very often.Laugh

Tom, If you really want it and can keep it in the budget, I'd say go for it.

Sawyer, I've seen that gymkhana stuff before and though it was intresting. Those Fiestas are imporessive, and I think they are also used in rally racing because the racing ones are four-wheel drive.

I think my dog is mentally retarded at the moment. I was getting a haircut from my father, and she lays in the pile of hair and eats whatever falls on her. Weird dog I suppose...

Well I tried swapping the TCS A6X from my U33C to my SD7 and it worked for a little bit. Then the decoder randomly came up with a dead short. Luckily TCS has their warranty, but it puts that SD7 on the backburner for a while. The NCE D15 supports the extra function, but I get weird results when trying LEDs and the beacon with the factory board.

Galaxy, I'm approaching 23, so I have some time it looks like.
