JimRCGMO Jeff, good that you got more sleep with that documentary (several of those have that tendency for me, too...) It's good to see your Diner there again in that photo; haven't seen it in a bit of a while.

Moaning folks,
Bob (seamonster) and Ulrich:
I see Ulrich has mentioned the price of Gas in Germany is around $8.50 a gallon, well we in the resource rich supposedly booming economy of Australia are paying the equivalent of $5.80 a Gallon in Australian dollars, so that converts to about $6.20 US. - That is the one great thing about the exchange rate. Kato locos cost around $60 Speaking of which, I still haven't done an order from the states for a while.
Question for all :
Who has the best deals and service for DCC decoders? Model Train Stuff seem to be a dollar or two more when looking for say a Digitrax DN163K1C than others, but they are very convenient, and prices on other items balance it out. While I'm here, anyone dealt with Fifer Hobby or any other N scale specialists? Thoughts?
Thanks,
OzJim

Evening, Zoe, I see you're still here (well, for a few more minutes, anyway). I'll have the grilled chicken, a side salad and some peaches, and a glass of milk for now, please. Thank you!
Inch, I liked that (former train) viaduct photo you posted. Is that any place close to you? I'd have to agree with you about the 'W' catalog - sometimes it's hard to figure out "Would picnic tables be listed under Scenery, Details, Scratchbuilding, or Structures?" As for the price of those details, you could print out photos of some detail sets you like, and user strip or sheet styrene (or other stuff) to make your own. I've done that on some details where I can't really see spending some (say $20) price for a few teensy detail parts. (Cheep, cheep - me?)(Okay, sometimes I can be!) Good joke there, Inch - ROTFL!
Rob, nice junkyard you have there - might need more cars, though... I'm trying to figure how to get an adequate amount of space for my junkyard (once I get to building it on my layout).
Lee, excellent rolling stock dresser you have there! Well worth your time and money. Hey, you mentioned "a few Western roads" - how many (dozens?) is that?
Sue - ahhhh, as in (Puget) Sound Rails - Such a dummy I can be! Now that you said that, it makes perfect sense for the name.
Garry, I must not have said BERKSHIRE loud enough for Duke to hear me, I guess. Have you been getting as much as we have here today? I think by the morning news today we already had almost a half-inch of the liquid sunshine. Yeah, I remember that rainy day/evening (and your posting that crooked track photo afterwards). And GOODNESS, Garry! - Are you trying to give Rod Stewart's city a run for its money - 13 stories?
Broadway, your whole explanation of your wiring for the passenger cars' lighting went way over my head, for sure.
Ray, in a couple of days something ought to be showing up in your neighborhood (plain white box). Good to hear your drive was okay - I had a 230GB external that was seeming flakey, and now that I put it in a new enclosure, it's w**king fine. Hope one of the two "You's" remembers how to get to the Diner! (On your 'Magic' mouse sensitivity, have you tried adjusting the Mouse preferences in System Preferences?)
Ulrich, thank you for your posting that (head-on) view of your module(s). Really shows off what you've done already with them. On your transition, maybe you could spread that across two modules? That ship looks really nice - and in iNvisible scale? Sure hope your glasses are good for itsy-bitsy w**k...
Alvie, when I get a few cars sold off in the next few weeks, I'll likely be doing as you did with your income (putting it to use for more MRR stuff). But I bet there are a bunch of us Diners who wind up doing that sort of thing.
DerJohn, yep, our clocks here will be going forward this weekend as well. Sounds like your young'uns does about as well at keeping you 'in the loop' as mine does. Best wishes on her getting rid of those bugs.
Bill T. - that Hamilton Pennsy station is an impressive one, all right!
Ken, hope you get some good 'scouting' of that roundhouse in with Simon later. (And do enjoy your days off) Good for you, standing your ground (and telling them you had the copies to prove your side) with the "SS" people. (No offense intended to any Diners with German heritage - like me). The US "SS" is way less organized than most people I know (my family or others) with German ancestry. Germans tend to be more precise/logical/straightforward than Social Insecurity tends to be. (Okay, I'll put the back in its corner)
Curt, more great photos of your layout - Thank you!
Bob (Seamonster) - yeah, the aftereffects (smells) of some kids' pranks can last a long, long time! (Don't ask how I know...)
Having finished up my dinner, I'll be heading home. Big Bang Theory awaits (and I may do some layout designing on the laptop while I'm watching...)
Blessings and prayers,
Jim in Cape G.

Afternoon Folks!
Flo, Beer please.
Had a hard time getting into East St Louis ILL to the Federal Building! Seems they knock down the exit ramp that led to 3rd street? We left early and was 37 seconds late according to the time stamp. By the way, if you have to go to a Federal Building don't ware baggie PANTS. I forgot all about having to go through the metal detector and having to take off my belt! Darn near MOONED the guards!
Sues SSI case. At first we where told we had to pay back $1050.00 because we did not report my earnings in a timely fashion. But we told the rep "we fax them in every month by the 5th". Was told again we had to pay! Again I said "I have faxed all my check stubs in by the 5th, and we have the copy's". She started looking closer and finally said "well all of them seem to be in by the 10th, they may have laid on some body's desk for a while". Button line we where told You don't owe us $1050.00! But knowing SSI, I am sure they are going to want it back again!
Far as the Roundhouse visit, got lost! But did get a much better view of it with the ramp we used. It is now on my To Do List. If I can get Simon 1966 to go, then it is a must!
See you all latter!
Ulrich: $8.54 a gallon for gas! I almost fell out of my chair. I guess we people in the U.S. and Canada have little to complain about gas at $4-something a gallon. Wow!
Galaxy: I know what you mean about getting nervous about late bills. I'm the same way. Quite a few years ago we tried having the bills sent directly to our bank for them to pay. It worked well except for one thing. We didn't see the actual bills until we got our statement from the bank, and that could be a wait of a month depending on when the bill came in. So for bills like the telephone bill which could be different each month depending on how much long distance was used we never knew how much the bill was until much later. It made me think of the time we lived in a small isolated town and I was the treasurer of our church. Thankfully everyone knew everyone else because one day I got a call at work from the telephone company's technician who said he had a disconnect notice for the church's telephone for non-payment of the bill. He "lost" the disconnect notice while I called the telephone company to see why. Apparently the last bill never arrived and they had a policy of disconnecting after one unpaid bill. Their answer was, "Well, you know when the bill is supposed to come in so you should pay it at that time whether or not you get one in the mail." I think my response melted the telephone I was using. Anyway, I paid what was owing and the technician sent the notice back saying it had been disconnected and reconnected. It's good to have friends in low places as well as high plances.
Inch: I loved your story about the tea. That was precious. Fortunately my granddaughters have served me only empty cups of tea. When our eldest granddaughter was little she would pretend she was running a restaurant and take my order for a meal, go away for a few minutes then come back with some empty toy plates and cups and serve me the food. And stand by to make sure I ate it all and take away the "empty" dishes afterwards. Children have such wonderfully great imaginations.
Another story about our eldest granddaughter and food when she was bout 2 or so. They lived in an apartment at the time. She woke up early one morning before her parents were awake, climbed out of her crib and went into the kitchen and decided to make breakfast for her parents. She got a pot out of the cupboard, put it on the stove, turned the stove on, climbed up on a step stool, got her mother's spices out of the cupboard and dumped them into the pot. Fortunately her mother woke up before the smoke alarm went off, smelled the terrible smell from the kitchen and rushed out to see what was happening. The smell, however, permeated the hall for quite a distance from their door and they got complaints from the neighbours. And no, child locks on the cupboard doors were useless. That kid could go through them faster than an adult could. They had child locks on the cupboard doors, but they weren't much good.

Afternoon All,
I'm pretty beat right now. Spent 2 hours raking the yard today with probably the same tomorrow. All the bending has put a hurting on me. On to the fun things: I laid the track in the coal yard, powered each lead, tested with my trusty K4s. No issues running the loco several different times on each lead. I also rusted the rails, cleaned them and painted "dirt" on the bare wood before I landscape. Tonight I could paint the POP rocks I have made but probably not.
Ken- That is a neat old picture. If I was close to that I would be checking it out.
Garry- Nice Modeling. Are you going to leave the walls the way they are or do something like bricks?
Inch- Got a chuckle out of your story. I can just imagine your Grandpa's face at the end.
Ulrich- I look forward to seeing pics of the boat.
As you can see I can't follow a straight line if my life depended on it.
Everyone take care.
~A Cup of Tea ~
One day my Gramma was out, and my Grampa was in charge of me.
I was maybe 2 1/2 years old. Someone had given me a little 'tea set' as a gift, and it was one of my favorite toys.
Grampa was in the living room engrossed in the evening news when I brought him a little cup of 'tea', which was just water. After several cups of tea and lots of praise for such yummy tea, my Gramma came home.
My Grampa made her wait in the living room to watch me bring him a cup of tea, because it was 'just the cutest thing!' Gramma waited, and sure enough, here I came down the hall with a cup of tea for Grampa, and she watched him drink it up.
Then she said, (as only a gramma would know), "'Did it ever occur to you that the only place she can reach to get water is the toilet?"

Afternoon all
Today is pay day for MOH. Yippee, now It can go out in bills to pay. Speaking of bills if the cable bill doesn;t get here by Saturday, I will have to call them. They are the 2nd bill to arrive each monht, usually on the 3rd. I get nervous when bills are late.
I COULD go to online bill paying, but I have had my/our : checking account double debited more than once for "electronic check procesing", my Credit card that I only use for internet ordering compromised, I've had my/our screenname{s} hacked, our server account hacked, my computer account hacked and ...and my personal info stolen via computer hacking into our local major utility company's computer {RAY knows THAT routine I think HIS company is the same}....so NO, I don't trust online bill paying yet!!! I MAY have even had my SS number stolen through regular mail as it is.
Ken-there are bound to be old remnants of roundhouses all over the country. Here in Conklin, NY near the CO yard is one,....but it is so close to, and accessed by, the CP yard that the CP "railroad cops"" will be after you if you try to access it! Looks like the two you picked are "out in the middle of nowhere" but could be dangerous to troll around!

Ken ... That roundhouse is well weathered now.
Here is a sneak preview of my downtown. Part of it is in the left half of the picture. This is WORK IN PROGRESS and much remains to be done. There are 16 buildings in the downtown area including one that is 13 stories high.
Good Evening Gang!
Petra has discovered the joys of the Internet, so I now have to share the time at the PC with her. She has joined a forum with a real chatty bunch of folks ...
I spent the morning doing my favorite task - searching the web for job openings, sending out applications. There is a little bit of hope, a prayer and a big attached to those emails. I even found some time to start the assembly of my "Bluenose". The last time I was into model shipbuilding was about 40 years ago, when I built a model of the USS Constitution, a plastic kit by Revell. The parts did not fit very well, so it was a big hassle to get it together properly. The Bluenose is a wood kit, which is much more forgiving. All you need is a good sanding block, fine grit sand paper, and some wood putty. I am nearly finished with the hull, which comes as a block of CNC machined hardwood. I had to add the planks, which was quite a job of bending, shaping and gluing. Tat´s the easy part of it - wait till I have to start on the rigging!
Still no positive news from the labor administration. I received a bunch of letters from my lawyer, just for info. Things start to run tight now. The car is out of gas, which runs at $ 8.64 a gallon right now. The telephone & Internet bill is going to be due next week, actually not a big amount, but any amount hurts when you don´t have it. At least we are stocked up on food.
Got to be going - supper time is coming up!
Have a good one and a prayer for the MIA`s.
Afternoon!
Flo, I'll have the Reuben Sandwich, fries and a cup of decaf for lunch..... I'm still hungry from breakfast. THAT muffin didn't go far.
Ken, looks like the roundhouse has seen better days. Probably classified as a public nuisance by now!
Found this one from 2007 on my old 'puter and just need to share with you folks.....
Two New York City jazzers got a gig in Chicago but had to drive separate cars. When the trumpet player arrived at the gig, he was told the sax player had beenkilled tragically on a bridge in Indiana. He looked confused... then said, "Man, there's no bridge in Indiana."

Well today we go to fight with SSI to see why and if they over paid Sue $1000.00 last year. I am sure it will be like fighting with Bank Of Stupid.I am sure they will find someway to say it are fault and not there's.

It is a Partial Standing Round House! Looks like it is still about 70% standing. Funny I drove by it for years on the interstate and could see the one wall but had no idea what it was. It is in East St Louis IL so I think it was a UP roundhouse. I will poke around a little and see if I can get a better view of it off the streets and see if there is any places I can park.
I do not plain on trespassing on the property, well not with the wife with me that is! But, little scouting will not hurt would it?
A link.

Mornin' everyone,
Zoe just a bran muffin with some butter and a cup or two of dark roast coffee this morning.... Yea, the sugar was a bit higher than I like it. After several days of being below 100 when I took the reading, today it was 127. Was high last night too. Probably because all I have done for the last several days is sit and fiddle with computer stuff!
Have looked at about half the emails in my Humor folder.... Of course I have to sit and read them to do THAT. By tomorrow I should be done and can take down the G5 for the last time. The old girl seems to be running fine today..... So far! Typical of Hard Drive failure I think. New iMac is fast!!! Big difference 8 years makes in what is out there. I am also getting used to the "Magic Mouse that comes with the machine. Very, very sensitive. Don't accidentally touch it with a finger or strange things may happen.... LOL
Barry, I think the lady on the right in the photo this morning looks like my grandmother Cooley! Only she was not into engine repair...... Cooking, sewing, and nagging grandpa, yes!
Rob, glad you have enjoyed having family around! Always a good thing (as long as you all get along).
I have to decide whether to just continue moving files or go out to the garden and dig some parsnips before the weather turns ugly this afternoon....
Later!
Columbian coffee in a sunny SOUTHERN mug, please.
My nephew did some reasearch for a particular scene I'll be modeling on the (HO) layout. He watched "Deliverance" before flying out to Georgia.
Hope y'all are doing well.
Cheers! Rob
Good Morning Modelers!

Good morning. It's 72° and mostly cloudy with a 15 mph south wind with gusts of 25 - 30 mph. The high should be 80° and mostly cloudy with a 20% chance of rain this morning and 30% this afternoon and things will as they say go downhill from there.Nothing special going on today. Just more cleanup on the layout. I had several interruptions yesterday. Certain people seem to think that because I'm home all the time I should have plenty of time to look up things for them on the web. They seem surprised when I tell them I have a life too and have things I have to do. Oh well, such is life.
Howdy
Oatmeal and OJ, please.
Barry .... A granite sink? Sounds heavy.
Ulrich .... The Bluenose II is on display at the Maritime museum in Halifax, Nova Scotia. We saw it when we were there. It's a very nice museum (Correct, Der John?)
Lee ..... Sounds like a nice Hudson you bought.
Todd: Be glad that it was not a real granite sink...Audrey wants one of those to match our granite counters now....

Good Morning!! Coffee and a breakfast …..thing please. Oh I’ll know it when I see it. Just bring something and I’ll tell you if that’s it. Thanks. Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 47. Kinda drizzling now. Ray- I think they call them “Kansas City” strips west of the Mighty Mi-i-ippy. (from Illinoy you know. We don’t pronounce S’s. And believe you me, it’s tough to say S, if you don’t pronounce S’s.) Inch- Actually didn’t make it to Hammers at all. I ended up running shorter on time due to the fact I don’t know my way around Springfield and I thought I knew where the shoe repair place was but I was driving clean across town on a street one block over. Maybe two. Anyway, I don’t know if I missed anything. Hammers was kinda leaning more and more to the RC cars and helicopters. MRR stuff was getting thin othern cars.

Welp, like I told Inch, got lost in Spfld so to speak. I only go to the cobbler oncet a year and Ash and Laurel to me look about the same and of course, I forget to look at an address before I leave because I.., I.., well I just forget about it. Besides, I know how to get there. I had some other odds and ends to get done and you know how that goes so one thing led to another and needless to say I didn’t get into the train room as hoped. So much for plannings.
Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!
EDIT: OH! forgot to tell you. Now that Brenda decided she needed the Kitchen counters to match, the "oh I hope it doesn't return to a drop zone" room, she casually mentioned that one of those black composite fake Granite looking sinks would look nice too........

Good Morning
Dull wet and windy today going from a high of 56F this morning to the mighty 34F this afternoon to 20F tonight....then about 3" of the white stuff...for another winter day...of 29F...tomorrow...oh well...by Sunday we will be up to 60F again....
Yesterday I did manage to get some yard work done..ie: we cut up what remained of neighbours large Maple tree that fell after the last windstorm we had...now we have some more hardwood to play with....
Someone( I forget who) asked whether it is always this windy up this way..weeelllll...it sure do feel like it sometimes..we had a rather windy fall/winter here this year...as well..being in the upper part of a valley the winds do come off the lakes a lot more here than in the valley bottom...
Lee: I got 2 of those PFM's they are wonderful little things....
Anyhoooo...all of you have a good'un...
Good Morning All,
Ulrich, maybe a New England style sea port with lobster boats and fishing nets, and maybe a few mermaids is in order? Yes there are mermaids, but you can’t see them until you finish the ritual drinking of beer or other alcoholic beverages en mass…
I found a cure for my rolling stock hording! I bought a 1977 PFM Hudson last night, NIB, assembled. He did send it out to a repair guy that oiled and made all the required adjustments before I bought it. Now the big decision do I paint it?
Did you hear that Fergie? I bought a PFM!
I wanted a Berkshire, but my choices were: PRR 2-10-0 with caboose, PRR Mikado, GN 4-6-2 or the Milwaukee F6a Hudson I bought. He did have a 2-4-0 with driver about the size of silver dollars. It looked like an ugly duckling but it ran smooth and fast. He had about 7 PRR locomotives with the “pinched” smoke box.
