We didn't get as much Storm yesterday as what I was expecting from our "100 percent chance" forecasted by our weather gurus (but I'm not that disappointed...).  Jeff, your r**n must have just gone east from Louisiana this time. Question

The storms were moving northeast therefore they missed you. Missouri is straight north of Louisiana.

Good Afternoon!

I woke up this morning with a bad case of arrhythmia, so I had to spend all morning at the doctor´s place, hooked up to an IV bag with something I could not identify. The heart rate is better, but now I feel funny in my head. No MRRing or w*rking on the boat today...

Jim - the kit is definitively not one of the shake-the-box kind. It is not overly complicated to assemble, but you have to take your time. It is a fun project, though.

Going to retire to the sofa - I am not feeling well.

Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Good Morning, Zoe - I'll have a glass of Ed's OJ, a blueberry bagel and a Rio Grande mug of coffee, please. Thank you, Ma'am!

Hope (in the U.S.) everyone's starting to adjust to the time change and was able to rest okay last night. I tried to not do my usual bit of staying up too late doing stuff (that really could wait...).

We didn't get as much Storm yesterday as what I was expecting from our "100 percent chance" forecasted by our weather gurus (but I'm not that disappointed...).  Jeff, your r**n must have just gone east from Louisiana this time. Question

Todd, good luck with "The Twins" and your tag team match (except, without a team member for your side)! You may want another "ace in the hole" besides the grouting one. Curt's idea sounds good (if I were the one in your position, which I'm not)Oops Maybe you could quote Sue as someone you "read about online" who did the tile thing - and regretted it? Good to hear that Ziva still has a few more days to show up with your (cough...) birthday card, too. Whistling

Ulrich, your boat sounds like a project or so that I've tackled - pace yourself and don't think too far down that road (yeah, I remember, definitely do not get in a rush...)! Sounds like you are doing the craftsmanlike thing and taking your time. Excellent pics of your locos in the modules - they are great for showing off your locos, all right! Thumbs Up

Garry - a good reminder for us about the earthquake and tsunami anniversary. AngelAngel

MoeLarryCurly4, hope you get your 'bug' gone ASAP!

Well Galaxy, I guess Rob was your lightning rod tester for you (and he didn't get bleeped!). Smile, Wink & Grin

OzJim, on your bridge(s) support, what about a trestle in that spot? Wouldn't be too involved to make, and it may give you some options for lining up your bridges.

Hey, lookee, everybody - Bill' T.s photo shows that Snap-Track is prototypical! Wink

Our weatherguessers are saying that by Thursday or so, the wet stuff will return. None of the drippy-drippy this morning (moved across the river to Garry's neck o' the woods), and it's supposed to reach the 70's (F) today and tomorrow and likely the day after that. Thumbs Up Shame I'm at w**k these 3 days - prime painting weather for me! Sigh Ah, well, "tomorrow will be another day" (as somebody said...).

And w**k is... w**k. Heard talk that the upstream bunch is thinking of having our two people who cover the office in daytime, to also cover our outlying counties (where none of us are familiar with the roads or where things are...).Sigh (Good Lord, deliver us!)

I'll settle in here at the window booth and see what trains are going by this morning.

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape G.

Good Morning!! Coffee and scrambled eggs with sausage gravy and an order of hash browns please. Thanks.

Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 74. Breezy, with a south southwest wind between 14 and 22 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

I’m really enjoying the photos being posted. Thanks for the effort. It makes me “homesick” so to speak. I really feel the urge to get back into the swing of things. It seems something always comes up though.

Curt- Actually, though it’s a royal pain, the plumbing is not what I’m not sure of. It’s the actual tiling and building of the shower that’s got me hesitant.

Cutting and pasting Sue’s comment on too much work to keep cleanYes. This comes from another woman and should carry more weight than a man. I think.

Jim- No word from Ziva yet. Must have gotten sidetracked. Probably busy. Besides my Birthday isn’t until Sunday so she has time to surprise me yet.... Well, the two stores across from each other does have it’s disadvantages, but they spin into advantages. Like I didn’t have to drive back and forth across town to look. After a while, you will kinda get to know what you would get from either store. For instance, I get what construction lumber I need from Lowe’s simply because it’s inside and I get to pick and see what condition it is before I buy it. Menard’s is buy the ticket and then head out to the yard and get it then find out there is only pretty much scrap there until the restock shows. Except for smaller boards and some fancy boards. Also when I had to match trim, the size at Menard’s was not the same, but at Lowe’s it was. They often do that. But in general, for like items Menard’s is usually cheaper. Oh and the waitress thing,Wink it’s worth it.

I too have the supermarket. I’m thinking of turning it into an auto parts store. Just a thought.

Barry- Yes I know what you mean about the multiple stores and the "let's see what so and so has" effect. They claim to beat others prices, but like the big computer stores, they never carry the exact like item. It’s nice to have the selections though so as not to have to settle for something you really need but don’t like completely.

Well, today I have to do the weekly bookwork for the Church. Had the fish fry Friday so that means I’ll have to drive to town and pay the fish bill to the meat place. While I’m there I mmay just stop off at Arby’s (no affiliation) and get a Reubin sandwich I see on TV. I will not be sucking 1000 island dressing through a straw though. Just not my bag man.

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

Afternoon folks. Monday night here.

JIMCG: I agree The pier there is more or less temporary. I plan on getting a smaller strip of timber or taking about a third of the current one off.

I ended up starting with the hydrocal last night, but ran short, so I'm going to try pick some more up this week. I got 95% of the river banks covered but there is a few patches I need to re do.

I'll check back again later.

Cheers.

It's a late sign-off for me. One of the storms passing through earlier knocked out the cable service to this area so everyone out here who has cable internet was off line until about a half hour ago. That was around 5:45 pm. Anybody needing rain water for anything, get your tank car down here. Rain is forecast for the next couple of days and after a short break it looks like we're in for a week of rain from the 17th to the 23rd. The lake is already overfull and water is roaring over the spillway. I can hear it from here and the spillway is almost half a mile away.

See y'all tomorrow.

  Evening Dinners!

"Groaning Sound as I sit down" Flo, Beer please.

Good Thing We Closed At 6:00 PM! Did not get out till 8:24! Slow in the morning but got busy after 3:00 PM and stayed that way! Again I got the Nut jobs that wanted 4 tires for $400.00, but the cheapest tires in there sizes was $125.00 plus installation and taxes. Or the Lady that had tires installed by Auto Tire 2 years ago and wants to sue them because they did not make her get a alignment, she never rotated the tires, has a bad tie rod end and wants 4 tires that are $185.00 each for $265.00 for all 4 installed? Bang Head  I all so took care of 2 of Keith's customer and gave him the sale. Mean while Dave and Larry where taking in tickets they got paid for. Well, the prices of being a Good Guy I guess?

Evenin' folks!

Just a decaf for me Janie.  I'll go sit by the stove and warm up a bit.

Was a nice pre-spring day here in the Finger Lakes Region.  Temp got all the way up to 64°F today.  Sunny and mild.  Going back down to 38°F tonight.  Too lazy to go light the wood stove.

Didn't even visit the layout rooms today.....  Had a good time at the 3 stooges get together....  Talked about some history of the Canandaigua band program.  Learned a couple things I didn't know from the other two and also provided a couple of things they didn't know as my dad was on the School board in the early 60's.  The original band uniforms (WWI style) were purchased by the local Rotary Club as a gift to the school in 1936.  Rotary had started the band actually around 1930 and it was taken over by the schools in 1936.  The Rotary club actually paid the salary of the first Band teacher in the district (half time teacher) for the first few years of the program.  Those same uniforms were still in use (I wore one) for marching in 1964, the year we graduated from Canandaigua Academy.  They were finally replaced in 1965.....  They were used for a long time!  We hated them as all the other schools had new ones and we thought ours were just plain dorky!

We enjoyed a great steak dinner (first cookout of the year) from out host, and continued to chat for a couple more hours.

Barry, glad your operations went well!  If nothing bad happened, you must have been running solo......Whistling

Hope all of you have a great night, and prayers for in need!

It has been something of a productive day...I got home in the early afternoon and did discover that Audrey had a small HD list for me..mostly outdoor backyard cleanup..I did not mind as I was out in the sun and enjoyed every minute of it....Mischief...the scenery looked very good....Whistling

Todd:  Audrey knows of only the Home Desperate down this way...she does not know about Copps Buildall, Lowes, Woollatt, or Cashway Lumber stores...otherwise I would be hiking on a weird and bizarre quest for one lousy sink.....Whistling

Good Evening, Flo. I'll have a bowl of the beef stew and a RBF, please. Thank you!

Inch, nice pic of that IC Alco there, too. On your viaduct, if that was a NYC one, I'm not very surprised that it's still standing now. Sharp-looking grandson there that you have. Thumbs Up

Todd, how's the cleaning up for Ziva coming along? And have you told Brenda yet? Whistling Hope your return trip on the sink went well... (You're right though, that would be quite nice of Ziva to drop by your place) Smile, Wink & Grin I'm trying to figure out from your account of the 'Brenda' trip whether it really IS an advantage to have both Menard's and Lowe's across from each other - well, I guess since you got (you did get it, right?) the stainless sink after all that, it w**ked out okay. (Except for the Chinese waitress deal...)Whistling

Well (getting a little fill-in this afternoon from the sky), I may not qualify for Lee's RSA group - when I went and checked my inventory, I was a fair bit under 200 total (even if I did order some MRR stuff lately that had 3 or 4 covered hoppers in the order). So maybe at some time this year I may be able to join up. Wink

Lee, you do have a good variety of RR roads in your collection there. Thumbs Up I'm still deciding whether I can justify how few of the big Eastern RR's that I have (3 or fewer each of New Haven, NYC, C&O, Rock Island, MoPac). I do have a CP boxcar, though... But then again, I could rationalize it by my CAW being a small bridge line between two Western RR's, so we don't get much coming out way from 'back East' (as my grandmother used to call it). Wink

Garry, please keep those photos of your downtown area coming - I am loving them! Nice job (and thanks for the tip) on that little 'supermarket', too)!

Galaxy, I'm sure that you and your OH are about grinnin' ear-to-ear, with getting THAT furnace paid off without any interest! Bow Every 'little' bit helps, eh?

Rob, glad to hear the family get-together was a fun time for everybody (maybe, except for your sister missing her first plane back). Verde Grande RR? Alrightee! I bet that's an Arizona (or at least Southwestern) RR, right?

Ulrich, that (Bluenose?) ship of yours is looking great (and way to go with scoring the bargain on the paint, too)! Bet it will look even better when you have it painted and done. Yeah

Jeff, is that the same baggage car you had posted (with less rust) quite a while back in here? Man, that is REALLY weathered! Surprise

Ken, glad you were able to catch a breather from w**k for even one day. But hope you made some commisssion from your extra day in.

Barry, good that you have a wife who knows what to look for (for you) at the neighborhood sales. Thumbs Up Hey, now you went and posted that 'rustic' Echo Lake building, and I have a hankering to built that...Oops Of course, the stone for the chimney and all will be a bit interesting (unless I try to carve it out from POP, and even that will be new territory for me...)

Johnboy - on those chains for your flatcar load, are the ones A-Line makes too big? I have bought some of those (but haven't got them out to try with some of my flatcar loads yet).

OzJim, will your pier between those two Atlas bridges be thinner than the wood you have in there right now? If you can figure how to trim it a little thinner, that might help you place the bridges the way you want. (Just my My 2 Cents of an idea...)

VegaV8, I'm not sure that I would ever say that our government (lately) makes sense. 'Nuff said...

Well, I'd best be heading for home now. Will try to catch up on the rest of the (currently) 2 or 3 pages of posts tomorrow, hopefully. Prayers for those still adjusting their sleep to the 'new' time (but as was said by Ken, it'll be good to have a bit more daylight after I get off w**k tomorrow), and for the rest of us in need (for various parts of our lives).

Blessings,

Jim in Cape G.

Just back inside from Spring Cleanup work with a 3-day forecast of 70+ days coming.

I have three 70+ days coming too, starting tomorrow and rain forecast for each one then a couple of cloudy days followed by what looks like a whole week of rainy days. Those needing rain send your tank cars!

Evening in the DIner!
Posted by galaxy on Sunday, March 11, 2012 4:34 PM

Hi all

did the laundry, dishes and some spring cleaning.

Opened up the window and door for fresh air to come rolling in on a day in the 60*s and getting warmenr the next few days gotta love it!

Now, Nuts, I have to also get the A/C ready to run! Not because the days are that hot, but because the trailer heats up that much on warmer days. ANd now with my oxygen generator creating extra heat in the BR, we wil have to soon get the window A/C back in there as soon MOH will start complaining about the heat at night too.

The Pussywillow is in full bloom..hopefully the censor won't block that word out. Other trees are starting to bud early. This could be damaging to other crops this summer though wihtout the hard freeze of winter to help.

Well, dinner will be salmon over rice and asparagus tips that we were supposed to have last night.

The extra daylight hour will be great, have t o adjust the timer on the hall lights so they don;t come on so early now.

It was such a beautiful day here in Pittsburgh, being in the low 60's and quite sunny. Much too nice a day to sit indoors. So we grabbed the camera and went to one our railfanning sites. We were there for about an hour and a half and caught 6 Norfolk Southern freights. Two intermodals and four mixed freights. I feel really fortunate to live so close to the NS main coming in and out of Conway Yard. It's not always that busy, but early Sunday afternoons seems to be a good time. I read others who post from areas who only see one or two freights a week, and they usually run at night. I guess I'm spoiled with all the railroad activity around Western PA.

Getting ready for a nice dinner of Delmonico Roast, baked potatoes, whole kernel corn, and a nice bottle of Reisling from Seneca Lake. Then butterscotch pudding for desert. That's all going to kick the blood sugar up a bit, but it will be worth it.

Hope everyone had a nice weekend. If your not retired and have to go to work on Monday morning, please don't slam the door on the way out of the house as some of us are planning to sleep in. Laugh

Guten Abend!

The sun is slowly setting on this side of the Big Pond - supper time is ahead of us. It´ll be just sandwiches tonight, we have to go easy on our food spending this month.

I painted the hull ( bottom part) in a glossy red color - those new water-based colors are darn good! They cure in about an hour, so the hull now has 3 layers of red paint on it. It´ll be more sanding tomorrow to smooth it out a little. Once the whole boat is painted, I will give it a spray coat of glossy clear lacquer. Still a long way to go - when I look what I will have to do to install the rigging ... Whistling

I also toyed around with my camera, just because Sue likes some of my pictures. Here is today´s harvest:

My friend later came over earlier this afternoon - he brought 3 battery operated LED lights with him, which I fastened to the upper board on the shelf as layout lighting. There are not that bright, so I will need more of them. You have to place one about every foot. At less than 1 $ a piece that´s quite OK.

It´ll be ham and cheese on toast for me now, so CUL!
