Good Morning

Weellll...did I get a shock yesterday.Tongue Tied...a friend of mine almost passed away from a heart attack.SurpriseWe had just finished a deck for his backyard and he was just going into the house when he collapsed right at the threshold of his house..I ended up giving him CPR and had his wife phone 911 for an ambulance...they came and got him to the hospital where he is resting in ICU at the moment...I just phoned up the attending nurse and she told me he is doing OK at the moment...I'll be up there later today...

Howdy all.

Been forever since I've been in. On and off I think about the choo-choos. Being 17 in highschool makes it a little hard to keep my focus on trains. But I think for once I'm going to do something about it! Gonna get the layout moved over to my Dad's house, so I have something to do when I'm over there. I've also grabbed my 4-8-2 out from it's resting spot and stuck it in front of my monitor so I'm forced to look at it's poor scarred face to remind me that I must do things with my trains! Haha.

Well I figure I should run along now.
(wonders if anyone who was here is still here and/or remembers me as I walk out...)

See ya,

Mark

Time for me to call it a night. I got all but sixteen freight cars put away today. I'll be using them on the layout. My F2A/F3B/F3B set needs something to pull. Of the locos that were out I put away the Rivarossi/Athearn U25C Frankenstein, the Atlas FP7A/FP7A set, the old Bachmann 0-6-0 and the Walthers GP9m/GP9m Frankenloco set. The aforementioned F unit set is the active power on the layout and I placed a Bachmann GP40 dummy in the north engine house. I guess tomorrow I'll wipe the track down and run a train for a while. It's gonna hurt a bit but it beats sitting here watching my fingernails grow. See y'all tomorrow. If you don't I may be tied up on the track someplace!

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a decaf right at the moment please.

Warm here in the Finger Lakes today.  Nice, very nice day!  After the fog (pea soup variety for St. Pat's day) burned off the sun came out and Made even me spend some time out in it.  Will help the psoriasis at least.  Got all the way up to 69°F out there.  Tomorrow will be in the low 70's but calling for some liquid sunshine during the afternoon.

I had a great day..... Today I made something called progress...  The sheetrock got a coat of drywall primer:

And then received some Sky.....  Fog, Clouds, and trees will appear next!

Hope you all have a great evening!

Evening All,

Back from the club early since I w**k in the morning. Only plans other than that are painting wheel sets and go on vacation (my kind of week). Unfortunately we have to drive to Miami to get on the ship. Found out that the annual club open house has been moved from August to the last weekend in April. We do it in conjunction with the annual Orlando train show which has moved, so if I am not working I will be there all weekend.

Garry- Glad you made it safely there.

Ken- I have a uncle that in his early 20's had the same model and  color as yours. He always seemed to have carburetor problems.

Everybody have a good night.

***Jim, haven't heard the coyotes lately. Did a head count last week and all were still present and accounted for.Hmm

Had to out smart the big horses today to take a fresh bale out. Used distraction (food) and patience techniques againts them. At first they were on to my plan and came galloping up to the front gate. That's when the patience part came into play. I parked the Beast (tractor) with the hay and walked away. Eventually, they returned to the distraction, at which point I had no problem completing the task. HA!

Not much else going on. About to toss some burgers and marinated chicken onto the grill. It is to much food for just me, so will bring some into the Diner for anyone who wants some.

Cheers! Cowboy Rob

Good Evening Diners!

A round of Irish coffees for everyone in the Diner please Chloe. No I'm not even Irish but say they are a great bunch so why not.

Todd, a Happy Birthday to you. Hope Ziva made her appearance. Well I'm now watching NCIS re-runs too and it is all your fault and of course Ken's too. Mind you they are pre-Ziva so I guess it is Kate. I've seen Ziva but perhaps prefer her predecessor( not sure if I spelled that right) . Anyway it is on every night here at 7. On Friday we still get Sea Patrol which is even better in my opinion. I'm sure OzJim is familiar with that show. We used to get it every night but at least it isn't off the air.

Had a good trip last week but didn't get to meet up with Barry. On my way to the airport on Thursday I did make time to drop into 2 hobby shops. I thought Doug's was small but good and the prices were fair. Can't say the same for  Broughdale though. I enjoyed driving around rural Ontario and luckily had a decent car to do in. It was a VW Jetta and I was quite impressed.

No RR work this weekend. It was 19C today which broke a record and tomorrow it is suppossed to hit 26C which is about 80F. The normal this time of year is 32F. I plan on doing a few jobs around the yard.

Well perhaps I'll see you tomorrow,

CN Charlie

Hope your St. Paddy's day is going well.

I'll have some of that Irish Coffee! No make that an Irish WHiskey followed by an Irish coffee chaser!

Been watching Ireland all day on Create- the PBS network. The travel shows all with Ireland as the theme. We are about Ireland-ed out now.

Been a funky day...we both have slept a few hours, up a few hours, then slept a few hours...etc in a vicious cycle. Not much accomplished.

We are trying to figure out how to afford a renewal of our 10th year anniversary renewal of vows. WIth MOH's hours cut now, it seems unlikely without adding to debt. MOH wants a lot, naturally, and we have only a little to pay for it. Hence the need for the Irish Whiskey!

Ah well, have a great evening!!!

Don't drink the Irish whiskey and drive.

Evening, Flo, I'll have a hot fudge sundae and a mug of Irish coffee, please (but no more than about a third "Irish" in it, I want to be able to drive home later...). Thanks!

Ulrich, I've been in 'sports' cars before, where I had legroom, but the rest of the car felt too close. Think I'd see if I could get 50 mpg and a wee bit more room around me. Maybe a bigger shopping cart? Smile, Wink & Grin

Sorry there, Ken - I thought that shop looked good, so I figured it was yours in that photo. Wink I do recall you and your dogs (probably means I saw that pic a while back, eh?). And you're right about an Irish wolfhound for St. Patrick's Day. Uh, I think B of Stupid needs help with getting their math corrected...(y'know,... just maybe they got their math wrong? Whistling) Sure hope your governor has more luck with the Ill. Hardest Hit program than he had with FEMA for the Harrisburg people. If I lived in Harrisburg and FEMA told me that my area didn't qualify as an area needing disaster relief (after what I saw of the damage there), I'd be hoppin' mad!

Garry, good to see that you got to Michigan okay (well, except for your wallet, at least). Hope you have plenty of help for unloading your truck there.

Todd, I had about forgot about Ziva's birthday dance for you (until Garry mentioned her)! So, did she come do her dance for you? Smile, Wink & Grin

Rob, I haven't heard you mention the coyotes lately - have they moved on elsewhere, or did you plant a few? Oops Hope either or both have happened, so you don't lose any stock.

This afternoon I started on that Heritage Furniture kit. Funny thing I noticed about it is, the directions do not say anything about combining kits for a longer building (only about making it not as deep, or making it at an angle). But I found some parts whose numbers (on the sprues next to them) that are not at all mentioned in the directions, but look like they are made for combining kits to make a longer building. Hey, I'm good with that! So I took one of the parts which looked to be the right size, and yup - it covers the join between the two front face walls, and pretty nicely matches the 'stonework' on the walls to either side of it. Smile I am pleased at that! Should make a nice large factory when I get the kits put together. Yeah It's at home now, drying. I'll post photos tomorrow or Monday (after I take them). The spacing for the two loading doors on each trackside wall seem 'off' for either 40 foot or 50 foot boxcars, but I don't think I'll try to do the serious kitbashing/mods that it would take to get them to fit either way.

I'll join Rob and have a sip of my Irish coffee. Mmmm..... Coffee

Blessings,

Jim in Cape G.

 Afternoon Fellow Dinners.

Flo, a wee nip please for the Irish. Belch. Was that Irish?

Tod, well did Ziva pop out of the Cake for you today? Happy B-Day friend and hope there are many more. What did Brenda get you, a new Honey Do List! Laugh

Did stop my the local hobby shop today! All I bought was a MRR Magazine. Came close to buying a used PK 2000 E-8 for $50.00. But they where UP colors and I don't really care for them.Sorry Rob.

Looks like Bank Of Stupid got the payment from ILL Hardest Hit Program. Payments had been $877.00 but now that I am caught up, it is $998.00. Looks like it is time to try to get them to lower the payment.

Jim, you have to take notes! No that was not me, it is a friends dad named Jim. He builds all of Riches motors.

I am the human. Besides it is Saint Patrick's Day, and what could be more Irish than a Irish Wolfhound!

 Later, Ken

Ulrich, Happy 3rd forum Birthday! Your Bluenose ship is looking really nice, now that you have the (one) sail on it! Bow Sorry for your thumb injury, though. Looking forward to seeing the rest of your progress. Oh, I've seen a couple of those (so-called) Smart cars in our area. Not sure I could fit into one of those, with my long legs, though; it might feel like a sardine in a can...

 [/quote]

Jim - at 6´5", I am not that small, either. I have test driven a Smart some time ago, and, actually, I felt quite comfortable in it. Due to the short wheelbase, the ride is a wee bit jumpy, with a funny semi-automatic transmission adding to that. It´s just a motorized shopping cart, with a roof over it, but that´s all we need.

You can´t beat those 75 mpg.

Good (Top o' the) Morning (okay, Afternoon) to ye, Zoe! I'll have the Irish stew,, and a RBF in a Ri O'Grande mug, please 'n' thank you! Wink

I see some of you Diners are already in the 'holiday' mood, eh? While (somewhat like Ray) I have a bit more German, English and some Welsh in my background, my one grandmorther's maiden name was Shaw (which I will claim as Irish, sorta...).Wink And though my Dad liked Reuben sandwiches, I never got a taste for the sauerkraut on those. I do like corned beef, however! Dinner

Lee, sorry to hear of your friends accident; will keep the mother and the daughter (and rest of the family) in my AngelAngel. As for wearing seat belts, even my dear old grandmother had to wear hers if she rode in my car! Haven't had a serious accident, but I wear my seat belts regardless.

Rob, that's one nice thing of living outside of town like you do - you can see thousands of stars (on a clear night, anyway), and other than the native wildlife (no, not talking about any of your two-legged neighbors), very little noise at night. I used to really like that at Boy Scout camp in the summer (after everyone got to bed and I was lying in my sleeping bag, just listening to the night sounds).

NSJoe, hope you get the rest of your information on those colleges in soon, so you have some time to decide (and hope you get a couple of schools that are more affordable. And enjoy your helping out at the URHS yard! Thumbs Up

Galaxy, have you ever noticed that the people who do those surveys about "Most optimistic/depressed/hopeful" areas, *never* list their city/town as one of the worst/bottom on the list? Kinda depends on who's paying to have the survey done, maybe... Whistling Besides, I've seen people who are in really tough circumstances, who still have a good attitude and find joy, anyway. (Just a random observation or two, or three, there....)Oops

Curt, good to hear the new curve's running okay since you added the feeders. (Still like your coaling area, too) Enjoy your cruise trip - sounds like a definite stress-reducer, yup!

Hope your moving trip goes well, Garry!

Well, Ken, I'm sure anyone who's into cars would've noticed from the hood scoop, etc. about your car, but to the more car-ignorant (like myself...Dunce), we have no clue what's under that hood scoop (except, probably an engine, right? Smile, Wink & Grin) Hope you get some more sales at w**k - maybe if you and Dave get talking about MRR stuff and layouts, he may give you better hours there. (Hey, worth a thought!) By the way, was that you in your shop at home/w**k in the photo you posted?

Bill T. - that obviously was not this Diner, if they have "Perfect Diners" in there! Wink Liked your "Sunny Tipton folks" photo, too. Laugh

Todd, all those different names for pretty-darn-close-to-the-same-beige-color I can tell you (as one art professor told me a while back) just is for marketing (makes it sound worth the price they want to get from you or me for it)! And yep, why are we not suprised that you come home to paint samples? You did almost get one project done, right? Time for a new task! Smile, Wink & Grin Hey, I think Lee's 12 gons were just from a previous train show - he still has one today he's going to (if I read that right). Hey, Todd - HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Cake and I hope you won't get in any trouble with Brenda over this double birthday celebration, will you? Pirate

Barry - was that Audrey on that motorbike photo you posted? Wink

Jeff, that's a nice-looking 0-6-0 there! Thumbs Up One steam switcher I had my eye on (but they're out of production and I expect hard to find (at a price I could go for) was the Rivarossi Yard Goat (0-8-0) or the Proto 2000 version of the 0-8-0 that they had. Ah well...will keep my eyes open on deBay. Sigh

Darren, your place sounds like a good company to w**k for. (are they hiring?) Whistling

Ray, your powerhouse is looking GOOD there - I like how that colored pencil/weathering goes! Thumbs Up  How are you coming along with the interior details for it?

Uh, Gabe... sure, the green today is for Michigan State, uh huh... Whistling Sorry you didn't get that temp job helping out Curt & his wife on their cruise.

Johnboy - have you ever seen the chain that A-Line makes (the link that Curt mentioned)? Might check it out.

Surprisingly, I think we got less than an inch of rain with the last storm front that moved through. Possibility of rain today, but it doesn't look like it right now. I spoke too soon - just heard it a little bit ago raining outside (but sun's peeking through again now).

Got in a MRR order (finally!) this morning at the post office. Couple more 2-bay covered hoppers (SP), couple of Walthers GSC 54' flatcars (SP & "Ri O'Grande"), and some detailing stuff. I also got out my Heritage Furniture kits (backdrop structure) - I have two, and was looking at how simple (or not) putting two together end-to-end would be. May start on that this afternoon, since when I get that one done, I can put it in anywhere I have a straight siding of that length (a bit less than 20 inches, I'm thinking it will w**k out to be),

Then again, those little 2-bay covered hoppers might not take too long to assemble, and I do have a few of them. (Can weather them later, if we get a dry spell again...)

I'll be at the RC, digging into my lunch. Yeah

(Irish) Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape G.

Adfternoon folks!

Chloe, I'll have a Reuben Sandwich with a big dill pickle, chips, and a glass of iced green tea for lunch.

The morning fog has finally lifted here in the Finger Lakes and the sun is busy shining out there.  THAT, of course is making the green grass grow all around....  Never, ever, have I heard of lawns being mowed around here in March....  May, yes.  Maybe even the last week of April, but March???  the high today will be around 69°F  Currently 61°F outside.

Going to do some yard w*rk this afternoon.  No!  Not outside yard w*rk!  Are you nuts?  Layout yard w*rk!  Bought a couple rollers for the paint job.  Ifr the paint is still usable, by tonight I should have the first coat (primer) of paint on the backdrop.

Later!

Morning All,

Flo a cup of decaf please.

As I said last night I gave my coal cars a black wash that looked pretty good yesterday. Looking at them this morning I felt a lot of them needed more done to them so I dry brushed black acrylic paint on those that needed it and then sprayed generic Dull Cote on them. I think it turned out  pretty good for my first weathering job (everything done with acrylics). Next week I need to do their trucks and  wheels. I was thinking a combo of latex rust and burnt umber will do the trick, although I will need to play with the colors some.

Todd- Happy BirthdayHappy B-DayCake.

Gabe- Sorry, thats all done on the cruise by the cruise line.

Ulrich- Very nice looking boat. The sails will really make  it look awesome.

Everybody have a great day and prayers for those in need.

Whistling

Morning Gang,   Here is my St. Patty's  wish for you all.

\May you be half an hour in heaven,

before the Devil knows you are dead.

Chloe, as time permits, I'll have a large bowl of Irish Stew and half a loaf of rye bread. Today I'll probably be conservative and wash that down with some green tea.

On the RR front,  I'm still looking for some chain to tie down the diesel engines on the BN flat. But in the mean time I built an Accurail  50 ft. single sheathed box for the WP, and a 40 ft. EGB kit of a GN box with Circus car lettering scheme. Not that I need more rolling stock, but I do have lots of kits in storage containers and I still like building some from time to time.

While I was at Home Despot the other night , I found some electrical receptacle boxes in plastic for house wiring with wings on them for attaching that hold my tethered throttles real well. At some point I might line them with a little foam to cushion them more.  I installed two of them but plan on putting in several more around the layout to be able to lay the throttles aside when you need to use two hands on an issue that crops up.

Back at work for three days this week-end so not much going to happen with the LM&E for a day or two.  Also have to get our Income Tax done for last year, so that is a priority for the start of the week.

Hope you all have a great week-end whether you are traveling, modeling, doing yard work, recuperating or just watching Irish Train Movies.   Have a good un.

Johnboy out...............................BeerYes  heres to ya all.     ( I'm buying )

But keep your eye on Ken

He might take more than his share

from Saskatchewan, in the Great White North..

We have met the enemy,  and he is us............ (Pogo)

Good Morning All!

When Irish eyes are smiling,
Sure, 'tis like the morn in Spring.
In the lilt of Irish laughter
You can hear the angels sing.
When Irish hearts are happy,
All the world seems bright and gay.
And when Irish eyes are smiling,
Sure, they steal your heart away.

Not much to report from the land of Buckeyes on this beautiful spring like morning other then there's hasn't been much going on..I think I found the ideal track plan for Slate Creek..I have 2 other ideas I want to look at before I bring the bench work home(it was built in my son's garage.) and start track laying.I also scored my first HO Southern locomotive-a P2K GP18.I'm trying to strike a trade deal for a brace of Atlas HO Southern GP38s.I'm also looking at the possibility of buying a Bachmann Southern GP7 and RS3 but, that remains to be seen.

As a looking back thing. While drinking my morning cup of java I recalled catching the old trackless trolley and going to Hall's hobby shop Saturday mornings that my dad was working or at his away terminal. What made these trips interesting is some times the trolley pole would come off the overhead and the driver would have to put the pole back on the wire..These trackless trolleys was history by the mid 60s..I recalled buying a used Revelle SW7($2.00) and couldn't wait to get home and put it in service alas! The old trolley car pole came off the wire 2 or 3 times(this usually happen at juctions) and of course to a 12 year old the trip home seem to take hours!

I shall have a cup and look over da forum.

Have a good'un!

Happy Birthday, Todd Cake

Today´s the day to wear the jacket green!

Chorus:
And we're all off to Dublin in the green, in the green
Where the helmets glisten in the sun
Where the bayonets flash and the rifles crash
To the rattle of a Thompson gun

Oh I am a merry ploughboy and I ploughed the fields all day
Till a sudden thought came to my head that I should roam away
For I'm sick and tired of slavery since the day that I was born
And I'm off to join the IRA, and I'm off tomorrow morn

I'll leave aside my pick and spade, I'll leave aside my plough
I'll leave aside my horse and yoke, I no longer need them now
And I'll leave aside my Mary, she's the girl that I adore
And I wonder if she'll think of me when she hears the rifles roar

And when the war is over and dear old Ireland is free
I'll take her to the church to wed, and a rebel's wife she'll be
Well, some men fight for silver and some men fight for gold
But the IRA are fighting for the land that the Saxons stole.

I must have Irish blood in my veins Whistling

Did some w*rk on the boat - here is my update:

Took me four hours to get this far, including a bleeding thumb. I used Petra´s sewing needles to attach the sail to the boom - those needles are no tools men are accustomed to (ain´t I a sweet little MCP?) I am starting to like the boat. Tomorrow will be the day for sail # 2. Fabricating the shrouds will be something else ...

Enjoy!

Top O' the Mornin' to ye!

Zoe.......  Ah....  I'll have the Green Eggs and Spam I guess, and hold the Spam......  "But I don't like Spam!"  But I will have some brown bread with it.  Oh, and I need my dark roast coffee, I don't care what day it is!!!  Thank you for understanding Ma'am!

Ah yes, St. Pattie's Day.  He was a Scotsman that drove out all the snakes from the little isle wasn't he?  Me, I've got some Irish blood in me, but it is a small portion as I am mostly English, German, and then Irish, with a bit of Scotch and some Bourbon. WhistlingLaugh  actually on my Fathers side the Family name is Scottish. Howard, is the Scottish pronunciation of Hayward.  In fact back 5 generations ago the name was changed back to Howard from Hayward.  The first ancestor of mine here in the country came out of prison in England in 1630.  After 4 years of slavery to some Wealthy English Company, he was able to save enough money in one year to pay to bring over his wife and his brother and his wife.  I am descended from the brother.

Yep slavery was quite profitable!  Still is, only the rules have changed....

Todd, yes, I don't like those type of movie ending either.  Reminds me that the day will come when I will have to say goodbye to my cats.......  Hopefully they both have many years left before THAT time, but I do think about it at times.  Oh!  Happy Birthday to the both of you!!!

Guess I should get moving.  Slept in an extra hour this morning.  need the sleep I guess.

Later!

Good morning, Chloe.  Again I am   a slow starter today, so lots of black coffee in my NP mug, please.  I will sit in this back booth by the wood stove and try to wake up.

Some of you diners are about ready to stop by for your St. Paddy's day corn beef and cabbage.  I am thinking that a ruben will be the ticket later today.

Last night at our regular MR meeting, our speaker showed pictures of local line that used to be owned by NP.  It was great history.

Later,  Sue
