Leaves, are you crazy??? I'm an old man modeling in N scale. I can barely see the trees themselves, much less worry about leaves. I'm wondering why I'm trying to put details on my engine that require the use of a magnifier, when I'm not sure if I'll even be able to see them once the engine is on the layout!!![:D] Er, what issue of MR did you say that article was in?

Nope, no tarantulas or gila monsters, wrong part of the country, thank God. And to paraphrase an old Barry Fitzgerald line from the classic movie 'The Quiet Man' ....."When I eats chicken, I eats chicken! And when I eats Gila Monster, I eats Gila Monster!".

By the way, go with just plain Ed, thanks. I signed up with my full name before I realized what that would mean when posting later. Now I'm either too lazy (a distinct possibility) or too confused (also not out side the realm of possibility) to change it.

EGMURPHY- did you read the article about making leaves out of styrofoam (shavings?filings?droppings???) in MR? If you did, why don't you try it and let me know, I have about 15 sheets of styro and hav'nt started hacking on them yet, I need a brave soul to let me know if this is a worthwhile proposition or if it looks like giant furballs in the trees. In HO that is. It looked pretty good in O.

We're supposed to get light rain tonight, but not very heavy (I pray!).[:(]

Good news;
I have decited to create a fake short line connecting to the Current WSOR line. It will be called the Atlantic, Rhode Island, and Kentucky railroad, or ARK for short. With philnrunt's suggestion, it will include a intermodual and barge connection.[(-D][swg]

Good news;
The WSOR local made it up here early again last night. 2052 with about 8 cars.[:D]

Final good news;
Only 5 more days till railroad bliss(if the darn water ever stops)!

Afternoon folks, minor plumbing problems (nothing like what Noah has) kept me busy this morning so I'm just catching up.

Barbequed some shish-kebabs (pork, the other white meat) for lunch. Nothing special but they were edible. Got to keep practicing with the grille. Going to try grilling some fi***omorrow. [dinner]

Took the surform rasp to the diorama to smooth out some of the contours, looks a bit better but the surform tends to leave a really rough surface (or maybe it's just the way I'm using it) that I'll need to smooth over with something. Now I need to put some caulk in to smooth and fill the gaps in the seams of the foam. Also plan on taking either knife, surform, sandpaper or my dremel to put some minor contour on the flat areas and put in a small drainage ditch. Trying to decide if want to put on a scratch coat of plaster first (to smooth out the surface) or go directly to the coat of latex paint.





Yeah, I know it still looks a lot like it did yesterday, but it's glued and the seams and contours are a lot smoother. Trust me. [^]

Killed another scorpion in the house last night. [:O] That makes 3 this week. Hot season tends to make them come out. Don't get too concerned, these aren't the dangerous ones. Their bites would sting but are not really life threatening.

Hi guys! Just wanted to let you know that I'm gonna uninstall MSN Messenger in a few weeks. I might reinstall in in the fall. I'm doing this to keep myself off the computer this summer (I'm on it a lot as it is).

Noah- have you thought of the advantages of this? This could be you chance to build that rail-sea connection, and a complex system of working docks and container ship ports. Or you could glue tiny periscopes all over the floor and build a submarine supply base.
And there arn't too many models of SP's Salt Lake line (Lucerne Cutoff??).
Seriously, I have seen adds for a paint that is supposed to seal floors, but I don't have a clue as to the name, and I'm not sure how it would work. Check on the net.

Lupo- just received a Purecanada travel mag, and lo and behold it has a picture of fries in a cone with lemon mayo on the side. Guess they are a big hit in Toronto.They look pretty tasty, but I don't know about that mayo.

Actually advanced a bit on the little diorama I'm working on today. I'm going to try to post a couple of small shots. Will glue the foam down tonight and try smoothing out the contours tomorrow. Let's see if this works out...here's a side view of the diorama....

Junior wasn't happy with the mango salsa but he's at that age where culinary experiments aren't his favorite dish. No pictures of the meal ( I actually have one, but railimages would frown if I posted it on their website!)[V]

It's cocktail hour now, haven't got to the iced coffee yet. Having a 'Cuba Libre', or as they call them down here, simply a 'Cuba' (rum and coke with lime). Mexico still maintains fairly close relations with Cuba (as does about everyone) and I guess they don't feel the need to inject the 'Libre' (Free) into the libation name. Whoops, sorry, didn't mean to stray into politics. Pour me another Cuba, will you Hon?????

Oh! I almost forgot......6 more days, six more days, six more days, six more days...6...6...6....6....6...6...6...6 and I can't wait! I've got exactly what I want to do this summer planed out (if the water ever stops). My first thing is to finish, slowly, my scratchbuilding project for the contest. then I've got a bid up on e-bay for a GP38 loco and if I win I'll have to custom paint and decal that, as well as 2 RBL boxcars for the WSOR. These 2 boxcars look exactly like the MR 70th car, except for the MR logos. In between all this, I want to run an operating session at least twice a week, if not more. So I've got a full summer already, and I can't wait! (or did I already say that[:D])

It won't help short term, but you and family might want to consider putting in a sump with a level switch activated sump pump for future wet seasons. If you have that much water seepage, sealing it won't be easy. Containment might be the better long term solution.

No coffee this morning (Mr Webmaster, please don't pull my membership in the Coffee Shop for violating the rules......), went with gatorade instead. Didn't need to wake up, needed to cool down.

I've heard nice things about Ixtapa. Never been there, unfortunately, but it's on our "to visit" list. It's one of those newly developed resort areas, a lot like Cancun. It's over on the Pacific Coast (we're on the Gulf of Mexico side), and being creatures of habit, when we go over to that side of the country we usually keep returning to Acapulco. Actually haven't been there in a couple of years but there's a possibility of going over this fall. Some friends from the frozen north (aka Canada) are thinking about coming down, and if they do we'll go over there to see them.

If lunch turns out as good as I hope it does (new experiment) I'll report back later.[C=:-)] If I don't talk about food (other than iced coffee) for a couple of days you can figure it was less than a success. Now that Fergmeister is back it might be the right time to ask for grilling tips.......[:D]

Hi guys, I'm back to work and using the PD's puter. I downloaded AVG anti-virus into mine this weekend and it was a slow process, so while I could read the posts, I didnt want to risk messing something up by posting something, especially since the time between storms was pretty tight. If the download had shut down I still wouldnt have any virus protection. Norton expired about 6 months ago, and after trying to call their office and trying to renew online without success, I figured I'd go with AVG. It was free, always a big plus.
egmurphy,- my girlfriend just got back from your adopted country, stayed in Ixtapa, said it was way hot and of course that was the time she picked to see the town. I guess the AC in her hotel is set up on a motion sensor, so when she would leave it would kick off, then back on when she returned. She said the marble floors kept the cool in. She caught 7 black tuna, said it was very pretty and would go again, as long as her boss pays for it.
One of my friends used to be into CB's (late 70's) and he would always brag that he had talked to Arizona and Nova Scotia, etc, and I kind of dismissed it as ok but not great, the other day I was telling him that I was posting with Europe and Mexico and he pointed out how it was just like the CB. If I could have talked to train guys on the CB, maybe I would have liked it more!
My coffee gets made at 21:00 and is consumed through out the night. I usually have enough left over to have a hot cup when I wake up between 11Am and 1PM.
Started tearing down my old layout, but hav'nt made too much progress due to helping friends building a home. But I am brushing up on carpentry skills.

Well I don't know Noah, the water problem sure sounds like a side effect of global warming and melting of the polar ice cap to me, but what do I know?[%-)]

Congrats on outrunning the train, Supe, but iirc it was "..more powerful than a locomotive.." Doesn't matter, you got to see the train up close and personal, more than I can say. (And it's not likely I could outrun it either.)[:D]

You can do 7 more standing on your head. Start planning your vacation schedule......

Oh yeah, actually started the diorama. Min progress, but it's a beginning. By pure coincidence there was a thread over on the Atlas forum on using foam for scenery, and one of the responses linked to a thread a few months ago where a guy was constructing a diorama and did it with foam and provided step by step photos and instructions. What timing. Onward tomorrow.[8D][yeah]

It's about time for some nice cool iced coffee..........I'll put some in the fridge for Lupo and Jim, it ought to be just right when they start looking for their coffee!!!!!
