Tried to take a video of the route I walk everyday, so as to make a tape to watch on those nights I’ve got to use the treadmill because of the weather, and there’s nothing on TV. Didn’t work too well, as it’s difficult to get the right camera angle when the thing is suspended from one’s arm, sort of at knee level. A bit joggly too.
Jeff: If you can get hold of a CD “Eye to eye Britain “, it’s worth a look. Unfortunately the photos are proprietary, and are protected by non-copy software that only allows printing under license!
Hope the flu (that’s what it sounds like) quits fast.

What part of TX are you in? I was stationed in CC, TX for 3 years, I enjoyed South TX very much, except for the 2 big rains a year and I missed haveing 4 seasons, as you know South TX only has Spring and summer down there, LOL.

Lee, I am in Southeast Texas or Deep East Texas, as they call it, which is 50 miles North of Beaumont and 20 miles from Louisiana. I'm what I call a "Texjun"...LOL!

I hope all is well in the coffee shop confines! Not much is happening down under, just counting down the days until the christmas break! Only four days to go now! I've left my christmas shopping late and am heading to the shopping centre/mall on thursday night when they are open for 37 hours straight, Incidently the centre is the largest in the southern hemisphere, so i'll have plenty of other people to fight with, I might take my point and shoot digital camera so you get an idea of the crowds.

And 14 days until 2007!
Finally put our Christmas cards in the mail this morning. We had a fiasco with the local photographer, he promised our photo cards on Friday, no answer after repeated calls and emails. I called him Saturday morning, he promised them by 3:00 PM Saturday afternoon. I call him again at 3:40 PM, still no photos in hand. Tells me he will deliver them to our house on Sunday morning! I said, OK! (Not holding my breath) Noon arrives on Sunday, no call, no show! We are at a friend's house for dinner last night; at 8:30 PM the photographer calls and says he has the cards, but only a few of the photographs we ordered have been printed. I could go on about how the order is still delayed, missing various sizes, wrong poses with the wrong background, only got 2/3 of the printed cards, but I think we will be going with someone else next year. He takes great photos, but has no clue about how to run a business, and customer service, what, you want your photos on time?

Dick, those Katrina photos were taken by Deacon Tom of the church about three weeks after the storm in an area of Plaquemines Parish, which is about 60 miles southeast of New Orleans. The barge photos just go to show you the massive and impressive strength the storm surge pushed on the lower coastal regions.
Also, the Battle of the Bulge statistics you posted should remind all of us that the freedoms that we enjoy in this country are not free! They come with great courage and sacrifice. The 3,000 + soldiers who have given of their lives in sacrifice for our freedoms in the Iraqi War, and the thousands more who have been injured are a testament that we continue to fight for our freedoms even still today!

Should be partly sunny and mid fifties again today - some December this is. Worked in the museum yard yesterday cleaning the SW-8 and servicing our Ford backhoe. Pressure washed it as well - you can now see the motor though I got as dirty cleaning it as I did working on it.
Was able to spend a few hours on the layout Friday and Saturday working on senicing the incline between levels and ballast. It's starting to come out nice and though I still need to put down half the track for the lowest level I could run to all levels. Now to finalize the power grids and figure out wiring so I can switch back and forth from DC to DCC. In other words I'm still procrastinating on fitting decoders to power.
Chuck and Cathy - glad you survived allright the wind sounds way too serious. My BIL used to live up that way and all he ever talked about was the amount of rain they got.
Robert - I'm sure once you tally up all the losses it will be significant, but though it's a cliche, the stuff can be replaced - you and yours can't.
Inch - the engine at speed is way cool.
Jerry - hope things are better with Sallie and hope you win the F units.

Took a new teaching position at the church on Saturday. It's just part time, and the pay is non-existant, but it could lead elsewhere. I passed my bachelor degree program with flying colors, so maybe I can get out of the phone business soon.

Got a phone call from my mom today,stating that the gas station next to my brother house in Boston almost took out the neighborhood.Apparently someone ran into the gas pumps and cought fire.Luckly nobody was injured in the accident.That GOD for that.

Robert: My wife has several clients that are MRR people. When she tells them I'm into MRRing to, they always come back a few days later and give her a car or two. That shows the generosity, enthusiasm, and spirit of people in this hobby. So far I have managed to get 2 NS box cars, and 2 hoppers (UP). Considering your loss, I guess it's time I return the favor. If you email me your home addy maybe I can get Santa to send you something.

I took the Mrs. to the Train Shop next to the Choo Choo Barn in Strasburg. She just wanted a few things. A few figurines, some paint, tombstones, and some turf. We walked out with a $170 bill. Youch! Those Preiser figures are expensive! And the Noch tombstones were like $17 a box. (In my defense I did get a $30.00 hot wire cutter, and sculptamold.) Well at least it's good to know she enjoys the model building as much as me.

Good morning everyone.......another cloudy day here today, temp is 48F, and we have had a few showers this morning also. Still unseasonably warm here, but El Nino has much to do about this. Just doesn't feel like Christmas this year at all up here, green grass, temps in 50's, no snow at all yet........maybe we will get a Christmas Eve surprise like 1977.
CHUCK & CATHY: Very glad to hear that you guys are OK, I saw some of the pictures of your area on the Weather Channel. That was a real dangerous storm, some houses were crushed by big trees.
RYAN: A friend of ours had a similar tale of woe when their pictures were not ready in time to send out Christmas cards......needless to say, they did their own the following year.
PC: Congratulation!!!!!!! Now, the big questions is...when do you start on your Masters Degree?? And of course your PHd after that? Just look at all the subject matter and material you would have in the CS for your thesis!!
DER JOHN: here is what you do John, you stand in one place on the road, and take a close up of the area along the road. Then, you slowly telephoto out along the road up to a given point just as if you were walking that distance. Then stop the filming and walk up to that distant point and do the very same thing. Continue this process for as long as you want your film trip for walking at home at your treadmil.Short of doing it that way, you would have to have Kris drive your car at 3 miles an hour while you film the route out the passenger car window, with the camera locked against something very steady in the car.

Morning everyone. Our mainframe computer here at work is down and we have been told not to do any work until an announcement is made that it is ready. So here we sit, twiddling thumbs again. Seems like we've had more than our fair share of computer glitches lately.
PC, congrats on finishing your main courses. Been a long time since I got my BS degree (1976).
Not much happening on the railroad front. I'll stop and do a little work on the layout from time to time but progress has been slow. Right now I'm getting ready for a house full of visitors on Christmas Eve. Still have lot of cleaning and some decorating to do.

I often think about getting a back up generator but I can just see it sitting for several years without being used and having the fuel gum up in it. But that one time it is really needed it would be nice to have. Like when the power went out for two days from hurricane Isabel just a month after I moved in.
Okay, it's almost lunch time. Chloe, I'll have the smoked sausage and fried potatos with baked corn. And a Mt. Dew to wash it down.
ATTABOY: Generators are very inexpensive now. The market was flooded with them back in 1999 when everyone thought that the world would come to a stop because of Y2K, remember that?
If you are worried about gas sitting too long in the generator and gumming up the carb., you have two solutions:
1. You should ALWAYS place fuel stabilizer ( sold at Sears and many other retail hardware type stores ) into the gas tank of ANY gasoline engine that is going to sit unused for any period of time, like over the Winter. I use it in my lawn mower, my snow blower, the generator, etc..
I start the generator every month and run it for about 15 minutes. This is done not only to keep the carb clean, but also to dry out any moisture in the commutator.
2. There are DUAL FUEL generators. They run on LPG/Natural gas, or gasoline. So if you are concerned about gumming the carburator, buy one of these, and hook it up to a tank of LPG which will never go bad nor gum the carb.
I bought a 13Kw generator that is dual fuel, and it only cost me $2800 from Northern Tools. You can buy a 5KW generator for much less. You don't need one...until you need one, and then it is too late to wish you had one.

anyway - I just got home from the LHS. I really have to stop going there... I spend too much... LOL! Though this time, it was primarily on track. I bought an oval of EZS-track, and a lot of extra straight sections (well, 2 cards worth) - so that I can have something to put the locos on when they aren't running. I also got some metal wheels (though I was one card short of converting everything); the Kadee #13 pack of couplers (now I can convert everything I have pretty easily... I hope); the Kadee height guage, and some fiber washers to raise the motor on my Hudson - now it crawls around the layout .

Evening Gang: Well it was hot today. It must have been in the upper 70s. I Mowed the grass along our road and did some tydeying up around, and put out a bale of hay. About 5pm it started to get colder. I guess the front finally came through. I still have to mow the back yard. I cant see the railroad for the grass and weeds. For Pete's sake it's the middle of December, awready.
