Jeffrey, you had me tearing up with the fireman story. And that one is true - you can see more details on Snopes.com:

http://www.snopes.com/glurge/fireman.htm

(According to Snopes, Frank ‘Bopsy' Salazar, the boy in Jeff's story, was the first ‘Make-A-Wish' recipient.) Oh, and Jeffrey - Do you have a fan running on your computer, with all that RAM in it? Whew! That's a hunk o'RAM!

Jim: The story touched me on a deep level because I'm a fireman myself and I hear about many such things. Also, I've seen many things that I wish I hadn't and sometimes wake up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat. The fires and/or accidents I don't like having close contact with are the ones where child fatalities are involved, but many times it can't be avoided, so I just have to grit my teeth and deal with it. This is a job that I do for nothing. I'm a volunteer firefighter. Many times, the only thanks I get is a hand written note delivered to the station, for all the firefighters of the Sundown Volunteer Fire Department.

To all those who lay their lives on the line, for little or no pay, I say 'God bless you, every one!'. This is a job I do so that others may live.

Jeffrey Wimberly, Safety Officer
Sundown Volunteer Fire Department

BTW, the computer has seven fans in it to keep it cool.

I have something I want to share with you. This was presented to me by the parents of a certain young man, with great gratitude. This means a lot to me. They gave me this just before they departed for Colorado.

... DAN... the name's DAN... lol... it's all good Dick... I figured as much (well, not the son on your mind part... but you get the idea)

Jeff- that peom reminds me of a comic I saw after the WTC... it was two kids sitting with trading cards - one of them was saying something to the effect of "I'll trade you two Michael Jordan rookie cards for the firefighter card".

They're heroes, no doubt about it. Why else would like every 5 year old boy answer "Firefighter" when they're asked what they want to be when they grow up?

Mornin, just some coffee please Janie

Weather guesser's are saying another nice day here, sun, highs in the upper 40's, but with a stiff SW wind, sure beats the weather we've had.

Here's some of the pics I got yesterday in Robinson. These are of the old NYC depot [Cairo-Danville trackage], now a war memoral. And with the thoughts of DEC, 7'TH, just a couple days old, try to imagine how many young men left here for war [and places like it], some to never see their familys again. We didn't get to go inside, checked. The guy with the key wasn't there, so we'll save that for another day.

Athearn Geneses (SP?) 4-8-8-4 Big Boy, #4006

HOOPLE, I ran across this photo of SP#4006. Thought you might like to see it.

Call Number: OP-15656

This is a 4-8-8-2 Cab forward and not a big boy. Southern Pacific had no Big Boys in their roster. This was their largest engine.

You can find more info at  Southern Pacific Historcial Society

DERJOHN, don't know what rock is around the dome. got this infor from the tv show "Louisiana the state we are in." on the local PBS chanel. I do know that it took the Union Army over 6 months to take the island back in 1862. The Union Army had grown to a force of 15 to 1 ratio before they were successful. But of coarse they had snakes, gators. mosquitos, swamp, and bogs to deal with before they could reach the cajuns in the area. And the cajuns knew this country. Mosquitos have been known to kill cows in this country.

INCH, sorry to hear about your nephew. Lost a nephew when he was 23. Had his two year old son in the truck when he passed. Had an anurisum on the brain. He slowed down and ran off the road and stopped. Our prayers and thoughts go out to you and the family. Sad for things to happen like this at this time of the year. This should be a time of rejoycing and not sorrow.

JEFFERY, nice award presented to you by someone who really cares. Sounds like you made a mark on David and his family. Well done.

well got to get cracking. supose to go to MS. today. May pospone because of the weather. it's raining here this morning.

Inch, sorry to hear of your loss.  It's always tough to lose one close to you.

Jeff, nice poem.  BTW, God put another Savior on earth too.  If anyone is interested in that, just Email me and I'll tell you about it.

Well, another cold morning around here!  Lake out back has been frozen over for days.  Here's our little quiet corner of the lake taken just a few minutes ago.  http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/House/FrozenLake.jpg

Yesterday I got to be Mr. Mom!  Got a house full of sickies here.  Wife and daughter are both fighting off the heebe jeebies.  Wifes had it for a week now!  She went to the doctor the other day, so hopefully she'll get better soon.

Got just a little benchwork done yesterday.  Redid the helix area a little and added more crossbracing.  Nothing major though.  Maybe I'll get more done today, who knows.

Got a turkey ready for cooking today.  Suppose I ought to get started on that soon.  It's not a big bird, but just right for the family.  You know, there's something about a nice turkey dinner on a cold winters evening, with the fireplace going and the Christmas tree all lit up, that just makes you feel all at home.

So, what's your day look like?

Hi Gang: It's another Sunday at work. I shouldn't complane because all the boss's are at home and I can get some MRRing done. I've got both molds for the ore car loads loaded and curing out. I'm using a mix of plaster and metal fillings, about half and half. They work out very well and can be picked up with a magnet. I've thought about using "B-Bs" also but the metal fillings are free from the lath and saw. Since I need several hundred cost is a concern.

We didn't get the calves taged yeaterday. They managed to get through a gate into the other part of the corral so Mary Ann couldn't tell who went with which cow. She is going to get them seperated again today. Of course I had to say " You should have marked them." I can still feel the icey stare that followed. I'd better take another sip of coffee. That's alittle better. One more better yet. When I get home we'll try tagging them again. I did manage to loose her new rubber boots. They were in the back of the pick-up so I layed them on the tail gate to take in the house. Yesterday morning I hopped in the truck and took off to work and forgot the boots were on the tail gate. I guess they fell off some where along the line. We'll have to go to Tractor Supple and get her another pair.

Well I'm going to go and check on those loads. I'll see you all later.

Afternoon, Chloe - I think I'll have one of those fried chicken baskets that Jerry has (I'll peel the skin off so my doctor doesn't get on me), and a Dr. Pepper, please. Tell RT thanks for me. Smile [:)]

Yeah, RT, I was thinking that looked like not as many smilies in the popup window... But no way of going back and double-checking, is there?

Jeff, that poem is nice, also. Very kind of the family to give you that. Thumbs Up [tup]

Our weather's been nice this afternoon - about low 50's, and possibly some rain tomorrow or Tuesday. Not bad - beats ice and/or snow (though I would like a couple of inches of the white stuff for Christmas...).

I've been working on getting some of my Christmas decorations out and up this afternoon. Not lots on the layout today - have a church singles group dinner at one member's home at 5 tonight, and I had to ice that cake I baked yesterday.

Well, mine doesn't have the chopped nuts, but otherwise it's about like that. Dinner [dinner] Actually, there's probably enough that you guys (and gals, Lisa) could have a piece (so long as I take the other half with me to the party).

Time to get back to the decorations for me. I'll check back in after dinner tonight.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Good Evening folks:  A day with our daughter and the grandkids to day, beginning with Jesse’s hand-bell choir in church, which went well, but he claims he messed up a couple of times.

Still mild here, 40 F the last time I looked about 30 mins ago.

Mike:  I didn’t see your news about Kenny when I posted yesterday, it hadn’t been there when I started my reply, and once I saw that had come in I left, sorry.  That’s a painful thing to have happen at any time, but especially so around about now.  Our prayers are for you and Deb, Deana, Terry and the whole family. Angel [angel]

CapeJim:

maybe if enough people
…Ah! There’s the rub!  There just aren’t enough of us here to make an economic difference to the company.  It would cost them to service us with High Speed, and the revenue wouldn’t be there. Banged Head [banghead]  Broadband over powerline is the answer, but no-body wants to listen to that solution, probably because they didn’t think of it! Censored [censored]

And what secret does Kris know, that her ‘puter is such a speed demon? " style='width:14.25pt;height:11.25pt'> " style='width:11.25pt; height:11.25pt'>
… I think it’s because her phone connection is way shorter, from the wall jack to the surge protected power bar to the puter, perhaps 40 inches tops.  My connection runs from the bedroom wall jack, along the wall, through a closet in the bedroom, through the wall between the bedroom and the train room, and along the train room wall to a jack I rigged up. From there to the surge protected bar for my computer, and so to my machine. Distance more like 18 feet, and an extra jack connection. All because when we planned the reno, my office was going to be at one end of the living room downstairs, and no phone jack was put in for the train room.

SlappyMike:

you guys sure are quiet tonight
…You know us, models of decorum and good taste.  BTW, gang, I’ve come across a rare bit of footage of Chloë, (or is it Zoë?, so hard to tell those twins apart!)

Kris thinks we are missing something on TV, so I’m off.

Time for bed really, if the truth be told.

Goodnight all, and God Bless.  Prayers for all in need of healing, comfort and peace.Angel [angel]

Good evening gents, just got back from family Christmas visit to my brother in Wolcott, Connecticut, the traffic was very heavy through Hartfort, I wouldn't want to travel that every day.

MIKE: Very sorry to hear about Kenny, that is so sad to lose a young one...the family must be devastated, our prayers go out to his family.

CAPE JIM: You are far too young to retire, just take notes at this point, it will come one day, and faster than you can even imagine. You will be wondering one day, where did all those years go.

DAN: Or is it Don...no, maybe Dave...LOL It's a good thing you have a great sense of humor. Study hard now, you want to get the best grades you are capable of attaining...it's your future and only you can control that.

Man, I'm tired, my eyes are so tired from driving 90 miles in the dark on the interstate from CT to MA......lots of traffic, you can't relax at all, I sure can't do what I used to re driving long distance at night anymore.

I am turning in .........see you guys in the CS for breakfast, Dead [xx(]Zzz [zzz]

yeah, I'm cramming as much useless information (along with the useful stuff) as I can... teachers seem to put the most trivial/stupid/not even worthy of being talked about in class questions in the finals... there's been more than one class where i've wanted to ask the teacher "what the Censored [censored] does THIS have to do with ANYTHING!?"... before coming to college, I thought I had bad teachers who threw curveballs for their tests... seems like some of the teachers here use those questions for the WHOLE final... I wouldn't be suprised if one of the teachers asked something to the effect of "On august 30, it was warm, sunny and about _____ degrees"...

College finals can be like those netflix ads, that they play on the radio......they make no sense at all!

btw i hate finals as well, but i see them as part of the System.  And unfortunaetly we sometimes have to succumb to the System to get things we want, like college degrees, which in turn allow us to spend more money on our hobby!!!

Good Luck with them!

A high of 47F today with some rain, and Tuesday it's going to be in the 50's!  Maybe I should break out my swim trunks and take a dip in the pond.  I hope everyone has a good day today.
