Jim: The story touched me on a deep level because I'm a fireman myself and I hear about many such things. Also, I've seen many things that I wish I hadn't and sometimes wake up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat. The fires and/or accidents I don't like having close contact with are the ones where child fatalities are involved, but many times it can't be avoided, so I just have to grit my teeth and deal with it. This is a job that I do for nothing. I'm a volunteer firefighter. Many times, the only thanks I get is a hand written note delivered to the station, for all the firefighters of the Sundown Volunteer Fire Department.To all those who lay their lives on the line, for little or no pay, I say 'God bless you, every one!'. Jeff- that peom reminds me of a comic I saw after the WTC... it was two kids sitting with trading cards - one of them was saying something to the effect of "I'll trade you two Michael Jordan rookie cards for the firefighter card".
They're heroes, no doubt about it. Why else would like every 5 year old boy answer "Firefighter" when they're asked what they want to be when they grow up?

And with the thoughts of DEC, 7'TH, just a couple days old, try to imagine how many young men left here for war [and places like it], some to never see their familys again. We didn't get to go inside,checked. The guy with the key wasn't there, so we'll save that for another day.

DERJOHN, don't know what rock is around the dome. got this infor from the tv show "Louisiana the state we are in." on the local PBS chanel. I do know that it took the Union Army over 6 months to take the island back in 1862. The Union Army had grown to a force of 15 to 1 ratio before they were successful. But of coarse they had snakes, gators. mosquitos, swamp, and bogs to deal with before they could reach the cajuns in the area. And the cajuns knew this country. Mosquitos have been known to kill cows in this country.
INCH, sorry to hear about your nephew. Lost a nephew when he was 23. Had his two year old son in the truck when he passed. Had an anurisum on the brain. He slowed down and ran off the road and stopped. Our prayers and thoughts go out to you and the family. Sad for things to happen like this at this time of the year. This should be a time of rejoycing and not sorrow.

Yesterday I got to be Mr. Mom! Got a house full of sickies here. Wife and daughter are both fighting off the heebe jeebies. Wifes had it for a week now! She went to the doctor the other day, so hopefully she'll get better soon.
Got just a little benchwork done yesterday. Redid the helix area a little and added more crossbracing. Nothing major though. Maybe I'll get more done today, who knows.
Got a turkey ready for cooking today. Suppose I ought to get started on that soon. It's not a big bird, but just right for the family. You know, there's something about a nice turkey dinner on a cold winters evening, with the fireplace going and the Christmas tree all lit up, that just makes you feel all at home.

Hi Gang: It's another Sunday at work. I shouldn't complane because all the boss's are at home and I can get some MRRing done. I've got both molds for the ore car loads loaded and curing out. I'm using a mix of plaster and metal fillings, about half and half. They work out very well and can be picked up with a magnet. I've thought about using "B-Bs" also but the metal fillings are free from the lath and saw. Since I need several hundred cost is a concern.
We didn't get the calves taged yeaterday. They managed to get through a gate into the other part of the corral so Mary Ann couldn't tell who went with which cow. She is going to get them seperated again today. Of course I had to say " You should have marked them." I can still feel the icey stare that followed. I'd better take another sip of coffee.That's alittle better. One more better yet. When I get home we'll try tagging them again. I did manage to loose her new rubber boots. They were in the back of the pick-up so I layed them on the tail gate to take in the house. Yesterday morning I hopped in the truck and took off to work and forgot the boots were on the tail gate. I guess they fell off some where along the line. We'll have to go to Tractor Supple and get her another pair.
Well I'm going to go and check on those loads. I'll see you all later.

Our weather's been nice this afternoon - about low 50's, and possibly some rain tomorrow or Tuesday. Not bad - beats ice and/or snow (though I would like a couple of inches of the white stuff for Christmas...).
I've been working on getting some of my Christmas decorations out and up this afternoon. Not lots on the layout today - have a church singles group dinner at one member's home at 5 tonight, and I had to ice that cake I baked yesterday.
Well, mine doesn't have the chopped nuts, but otherwise it's about like that. Actually, there's probably enough that you guys (and gals, Lisa) could have a piece (so long as I take the other half with me to the party).
Time to get back to the decorations for me. I'll check back in after dinner tonight.

yeah, I'm cramming as much useless information (along with the useful stuff) as I can... teachers seem to put the most trivial/stupid/not even worthy of being talked about in class questions in the finals... there's been more than one class where i've wanted to ask the teacher "what the does THIS have to do with ANYTHING!?"... before coming to college, I thought I had bad teachers who threw curveballs for their tests... seems like some of the teachers here use those questions for the WHOLE final... I wouldn't be suprised if one of the teachers asked something to the effect of "On august 30, it was warm, sunny and about _____ degrees"...
College finals can be like those netflix ads, that they play on the radio......they make no sense at all!
btw i hate finals as well, but i see them as part of the System. And unfortunaetly we sometimes have to succumb to the System to get things we want, like college degrees, which in turn allow us to spend more money on our hobby!!!

What to thank ya'll for the thoughts an prayers for our family. The sad part is he left behind a 3 month old daughter and things were looking up for him with a new job an all.
I always called Kenny, George, he stayed with us a lot and his favorite cartoon was George of the jungle, I always sang the theme song to him in front of his girl freinds when he got older. He always got red faced and just grin.
