Here we are on page three! We can't have that can we Fergie. Fergie I'm buying so pull up a chair and order up.

Not much going on today. I have a silicon calk mold curing. I don't know how it will come out but am hoping for the best. It is a little hard to get started. The calk does not flow like the molding making silicon does. You have to spread it on like cake frosting. The problem is with the first coat, it doesn't want to adhere to the pattern because of the parting coat of vaseline. We'll see what happens tomorrow.

Other than that I haven't been doing much. I'm at work now so that may explain part of it. After I got the park turned on I started to clean up the shop and catch up on some repair work. It may take awhile to get the shop cleaned as it's been a couple of months since I had a chance to clean it. I found out that it has a concrete floor. It's really not that bad.

Tonight I am going to get down to the layout if only to try some track arrangements for the ore yard. I toledTeffy the other day that I was going to have to paint the plywood for the ore yard white so I could cover up all the track center lines and start anew. It gets confusing after awhile. Yes I did make a drawing of the yard but as you all know things have a tendency to not fit as the drawing says they should. Any way I'll work it out.

Well it's almost time to hit the road. Just enough time to fill out my labor report and I'm off. See yu all later.

Hello people, will you look at that! My round again.[:D] Drink up!
I started this post before we were off to the Mushaboom Volunteer Firemen’s Hall for a Lobster supper.[dinner] [dinner][yeah][^] I’m back on page1050, so haven’t caught up yet. This morning was usurped by a dryer vent emergency. We were to our friends new place in New Glasgow yesterday and I picked up several bits of coal from the old Albion RR trestle embankment in their back yard.[8D] It forms the small hill covered with trees here.
The trestle bridged across the lawn here.
Apparently I put a piece in my pocket, and forgot it. It came out in the dryer, and shed small bits of coal all over, so I had to clean out the whole vent system.[B)] Anyway, I’ll do some castings from the surviving, non-pocketed chunks. Looking forward to that, and have ordered the rubber from the LHS. Mine had not survived after 8 years neglect. [B)][B)]!

Jerry, you were asking about the depot. It’s a mock up made from a Knox Gelatin box cut down and mounted on a plastic sign board base. The roof and the shelter is cereal box card. The posts are wood. It’s meant to represent the MT’s standard mainline station. Here’s another one.

They should all get replaced in time with these.

I was able to get more “earth fill” sawdust/glue mixes laid down last night, 31/2 batches, a record. The Trading Estate area was filled,
and a cow pasture has been made on the right hand side of the lead from where the fiddle yard fits into the edge of the layout, up to the mainline. It’s a bit bright, and the light direction wasn’t right to show the undulations. Sorry about that.

I also did more rock work and fill above the tunnel mouth at the west end of the lower tunnel

Any mrr will be much later on this evening as our friends are coming over with her Mother’s day gift “I walk the line” DVD. That should be good.[tup]

First chance I’ve had to visit since morning, between getting a haircut, kids, and going out to see mine an Mothers moms. All of our kids are coming tomorrow for lunch, didn’t figure we’d have time then.
PC , I wouldn’t kid you to much bout a flowery cup. I’d think you looked cute holding it.

RT , that like a yard sale here. We need to have one in the whole family this summer and unload a bunch of stuff..

Der , Your making feel bad with all your progress, SLOW down please.

Mother’s got fried chicken on the stove and the race is starting, so I’m out a here for a bit.

Good evening gents, rained all day today, hard at times, we even had lightening and thunder this afternoon with temp at 42F, so that is rare, but it does show the intensity of this storm that won't go away. More rain tomorrow.
The wife and I went to a restaurant to eat dinner ( supper) after church this afternoon, to celebrate our 46th anniversary, steaks tip smothered in onions and peppers, and, salmon on mashed potatoes....now I can't move.

DER JOHN Are you trying to make me feel bad with those pictures in your yard? Blue skies etc? LOL

DUKE Will this storm over the Great Lakes ever go away? The Rhubarb is knee high already, but the Strawberries are under water I think. Do you like plain Rhubarb pie? We may have to call it "shadow" pie this year without the strawberries, it will look like the strawberries walked through the pie on stilts!!!
I think NOAH received 6" of snow up in his neck of the woods.

BILL N You say you put on so much weight that you almost couldn't get into your "wee kilt"? Are you sure you don't have a "tilt in your kilt laddie "?

FERGIE Congrats to AJ , you must be very proud of your son, enjoy the moment Fergie, they grow up far too fast.

INCH53 Mike, I see you are being hammered by part of this same storm. It is only 42F here now, and the winds are howling at 25-35mph. No let up in sight for DAYS because of the big High Pressure sitting over [ red] DER JOHN's HOUSE [/red] in northern Nova Scotia...it is called the North Atlantic Oscillation. We may see the sun next Sunday ( 7 days away ).

CHUCK & KATHY Don't forget to post some pictures of your project, you know we all have to post our approvals before the building inspector gets to your house. LOL

ATTABOY I think that we have a whole generation of people who are very spoiled, and think the entire world owes them a living. I honestly don't know how you can deal with these types of people when they start cursing you and carrying on like that. I will pray that you keep your sanity, and, you always have your good friends in the CS for you to vent with.

Prayers to all in need, especially Gloria and Luc.

Boy did I slip that one in. Thanks John for taking the heat. I'll just have a water with lemon. I came to the conclusion that I dehidrated yesterday and it's taken until now to get to feeling better. I gotta watch that.

Mary Ann and I went to do the laundry and than had supper at the chinese resturantnext door. We had there egg-foo-young and it was very good. They always serve us a huge portion so we split an order and still have take home.

No MRRing tonight. I'm just going to head for bed.

Well here is the fruit of my labor. Found that Home Depot does sell Lexan. Purchased a 36"x48" sheet. Cut it into 6" strips. Got about 15' of heavy duty adhesive velcro and got to work.

Here are the results:

The velco makes it real easy to remove the safety barriers. Best part of Lexan, you treat it just like plywood. Circular saw and a straight edge.

Well I still have to put the final touches on the Mother's Day sermon for the homeless mission where I serve. Four years in a row doing the Mom's day talk. With eight different speakers you'd think I'd miss a year.

Talk to you all tomorrow. Good night.

Hi all!

I spent the night cleaning the basement to make room so I can add to the layout. It's progressing, but will still require another day or 2 of work to get enough space.

I'm still getting over the cold I've had all week so I think I'm going to bed.

A Good Mothers Day to all the moms’ whereever they may be. Just some coffee and a couple doughnuts for now Janie.
Raining and cold again here, same forecast as yesterday and for tomorrow. Grayfox our weather is the courtesy of same low-pressure setting over the great lakes too.
Starting to remind me of 1988, cold and rainy all spring,, we like to never got the crops planted. Then it turned off dry in June. And rained most the fall, and like to never got the harvest in. We still don’t have any garden out yet, and we need to put up a bunch of stuff this year.
4 of the kids are coming today for lunch, it was Mothers idea not my. She’s got yeast rolls a raising now, a 16# ham ready for the oven, sweet taters, corn on the cob and I don’t know what else. She’s got 4 apple pies and ice cream for dessert.

Gumby , layout looks good, and good luck on your Mothers day sermon.

Ding , hope your cleaning gores well, so you can start on your layout addition.

Me and a couple neighbors were going to go to the flea market early this morning, but that trip is canceled [rain] now, so I think I’ll hide in the train room awhile.

So this is bassically a chat room on the forum?

I like the idea. This method allows us to re-read stuff unlike chat boxes only hold so much.

Well, it mothers day. Do you have your priorities straight?

Little to no train time today, but the respectfull time shown will payoff to all.

spidge: Welcome to the Coffee Shop. Yes this is basically a place to come and chat and not nessicarilly about model railroading. Of course we do alot of model railroad type descussions and let others know about our successes and flops. The only rules are no flaming or four letter words and no politics. We have a diverse crowed here, in most of the scales including very large live steam. I'm in HO and 71/2 in gauge live steam. Tell us some about yourself. We are a nosey lot. Pull up a chair and enjoy. I'm buying so have a cup or glass of your favorite beverage on me.

Well here I am at work eating lunch and having a wonderful day. Tonight John and I are going to take Mary Ann out for mothers day. I don't know where it will be but I'm sure she will enjoy it.

I didn't get to the basement last night so no new activity to report on the MRR front. I checked the silicon calk mold this morning and it came out usable but not ideal. since the calk is an air cure product it is very slow in thick forms. It's better to make several thin coats letting them cure in between. Of course this takes time. When it has had time to cure I'll try a cast and let you know how it turned out.

I'm going to head out and see what else is going on.

Thanks for the morning snack and java.

I am 38, married 19 yrs, have two girls 13 and 9, two female dogs too.

My layout is in my garage and is only plywood now. I am determined not to spend any more money on DCC until I get some scenery on the layout. This is very dificult.

The family is very excited that the layout looks good and runs good. They want to help with the scenery and details, but I am willing to bet when it gets over 90degrees outside they will hurry inside, too bad.

This is my 5th or 6th layout and is perminent. I have been a member of one club HO but they are no longer in operation. I model in N so I can run a fair size ( 20 cars ) train. I would like to find some fellow modelers in the area for a round robin group, but havent had any luck yet. Mostly modular clubs out of Orange county, too far traffic wise for me.

Check out my link to photobucket and see my progress. It may be a while before a have more to add.

Have a greta mothers day.

John

Spidge: Nice bench work. I am woundering with that grade that you have in the works are you going to have a second level? I also like the track arrangement at the grain elevator. I guess that guy driving the bug is getting a ticket for not stopping for the grade crossing.

Afternoon all, barley pops please Janie,
Well the house is almost quiet now, all the kids are gone, but Jamie and hers. Think they’re leaving for Springfield in a little while.
I didn’t go down to the flea market this morning, but a friend of did and brought me back 6 cars in A1 shape and another Chessie engine, all for $11.00. I’ll get some pics later. They have another one in 2 weeks, sure hope I can make it there. The women that had them, also had some other stuff I’d like to look at.

Spidge , welcome to the CF. I see Paul has given you the basics already, so have one on me also.
There are several N scalers here, so you’re in good company. From the looks of your photo bucket, you have a nice layout going there. Keep us updated on your progress.

RT , Sad so sad [the joke to]

Think I’ll take a short nap and let dinner settle some, before supper.

Good evening Coffee Shop:

Ding: I’m sure Duct tape roads can work. Certainly they will delineate the width, and importantly, the edges. If you aren’t super happy with the surface texture, a bit of PolyFilla™ smoothed on and painted will likely do the trick. If it cracks, you have added realism![tup] Hope the cold goes soon.

Greg: If that isn’t a “Mama Burger”, it certainly is the “Mother of all Burgers”![dinner]

Ryan:
QUOTE: what are you doing for the mothers in your life this weekend?
…Following yesterday’s lobster supper, and the DVD of “I walk the line”; we went to Truro today for our elder grandson’s birthday lunch after attending the church where #2 grandson plays in a hand-bell choir, and they happened to be on deck for a season closer today.[^] That was after breakfast at which Kris got a “proper” card and a slice of double chocolate cheesecake from the new Cyber Café to accompany a potted geranium.
Nice layout plan, you’ve got continuous running on that lower level on the track that crosses the bridge, so that’s a start. The curved angle crossing will be difficult to find commercially. How good are you at scratch building crossings? Personally, I’d fiddle with the plan to get straight track on both arms of the crossing.[:D]

CapeJim:
QUOTE: On the road, I’m not sure how your roads up there are, but in this region if the road goes from blacktop to gravel, the gravel is usually lower by a little than the blacktopped road is. I’d agree with Kris that the far side of that road looks kinda like gravel on its texture.
…Been thinking about this whole thing. I want blacktop through the backdrop! So, since the texture looks gravelly right now in that rear section, I’m going to Flex Paste it and so have a smooth surface to paint the road on. I can fill in the join at the road junction at the same time. The whole road system there needs another coat of paint anyway.
QUOTE: 100 acre fiddle yard,
… that was a sideways reference to Winnie the Pooh and the 100 acre wood, for those who were brought up on AA Milne. It was after all a blustery day.[swg]

Dave: Thanks for the kind words on the scenery (others too, much appreciated, it’s fun again![tup])
QUOTE: But here's the kicker inside the box was a little note because you brought this engine used please sent us $25.00 for repairs. Used I brought it new in the box just that is was at a show , guess you can only buy at the local hobby shop, well all I can say is don't hold your breath waiting for my $25.00 bucks!
Do you think I am out of line on this?
…No, but I think that a note back telling them what you’ve just told us (NIB at a show) and that you expect better performance from their product.[:D]

OZJim: that’s a whole lot of mrr $s for just one loco, at any rate that would be the decision of the cheapskates that run the Maritime Trunk.[:D]

CAMatt:
QUOTE: Well, at an assembly this morning at school, I won first place in an essay contest and got a $100 savings bond! Pretty sweet huh?
CONGRATULATIONS!! even if it does sound a bit like those cards in the middle of the board in Monopoly®
[(-D]

RT: Thanks for those Home Remedies. I’ve put them into a Word.doc for further enjoyment![(-D] Also, thanks for a reprise on the death of Larry LaPrise. ROTFL.

Bill North: [#welcome] Home. Hope that house sale gets resolved for you soon. Then you can concentrate on important stuff again.[swg]

Tipton Bill: Thanks for the new cups, now we won’t have to wash up so often.

Mike:
QUOTE: SLOW down please.
…Only mrr in last 2 days is to wa***he coal I picked up ready for making rock casting molds when I get the rubber next Thursday. That better?[(-D][(-D]

***:
QUOTE: Blue skies etc?
…that was New Glasgow…we have more fog, and are way cooler, if that helps![:D]

Kathy: The software that came with either camera should get you going on the transfer thing. Failing that go to the Adobe site and get their free Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3. That has a utility that downloads photos from your camera. I’m assuming you have a cord that goes from your camera to a USB port on the computer. The software should walk you through the process. If you have Windows XP, the Microsoft Photo Editor does a reasonable job of adjusting brightness etc, and re-sizing the photos for posting to a web Hosting service like Photo bucket or Rail images. Both of those resize automatically, but if you happen not to have high speed internet, that process can take for ever. So I resize before uploading.

CAJohn:[#welcome] to the CS. I see Paul has given you the short course.[:D] Happy to have another Normal person in the Shop.[:D] May I ask what DCC system you have chosen? Also, what is your backdrop material, and how have you fixed it to the walls?
That’s a fine looking layout you’ve got going.[tup]

Fergie: That looks like trouble! Check out those eyes! Hide the slippers. You are going to be away all summer….Hmmm[(-D]

That’s about it for tonight. Now I’ve caught up, I’m off to check email and then to bed. Goodnight all, and God Bless. Prayers continuing for all in need of healing, comfort, and peace.[angel]

John Wood, thanks for the pat on the back, thats always welcome.
I have had an NCE Powercab for about two weeks now and love it. I have made a few adjustments like max voltage. I only fried 2 of 6 decoders on the first try.
The backdrop is simply wallboard painted but I would like to repaint the clouds.I built two partitions on bot ends to limit myself.
Its about 13x15 and packs much more operating than I thought possible, now that I have DCC.

I look forward to many more conversations here.

Well, I've suddenly scrapped my old layout plan and am developing a new (somewhat smaller) trackplan. I tell you I hate these spur of the moment changes. but anyway, I hope I can makes this one work. Tomorrow I'll post the trackplan in my topic on the forum about it. BTW, it'll be primarily steam power[swg]

I'm gonna go watch some train videos.

Cya all.

Paul, That grain elivator is on a small 14"x36" module I built as an add on to an old layout. I tore down the layout but kept this module as I can run trains on it. I will be discarding it soon. The track layou is very similar to the layout addition to the Jerome and Southwestern.
Most of the pictures are of the new permanent single level layout. It has a vary long three track staging yard, small town with three sidings, a summit with passing track, and a yard that will have many industries to switch. It looks like if I can come up with an operating scheme I could keep a few people busy. Now I just need to find operators.

Well, I should go say goodnight to the little woman as she is reading in bed. This usually quickly leeds to her falling to sleep.

See ya, and have a great week.
