Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,

Another warm day down here in (what, at least for another few weeks, is) Paradise. We’re actually at that nice time of the year when, while it warms up considerably during the day, it cools off sufficiently in the evening to be comfortable. In fact, sitting out in the swing on the terrace in the evening with a cup of good coffee (from Veracruz, of course) or your adult beverage of choice is really enjoyable. [^]

Spent most of the morning again out at the grove. With the amount of OJ and fresh oranges that you guys go through here in the Coffee Shop, keeping traffic moving on the FCVN is a full time job {{{gasp}}}. [:0]

Very little work done on the layout today, just enough to be able to say I did something. I did daydream a lot about what I’m supposed to be doing, and what it will look like in a few weeks!

Tom, I’m glad your outing with Bill went well. Often it works out like that, if you have something interesting enough to do, you can avoid thinking about the weather, and the day turns out great. It’s nice that there is still enough of the old infrastructure in place to make research fun.

Good afternoon guys, rough day today. The storm last night caused all the roads and driveway to ice-up real fast. Many accidents around here today, even a death in the Boston area! My son went over the embankment of his spiral driveway on a long stretch of ice. It took us 2 hours to get the car out of the deep snow, off logs and rocks and onto the flatbed tow truck pulling him up out of the woods. The Ford Crown Vic seemes to have survived Ok, but received dents and dings and body bruises, the undercarriage looked Ok.

The wife and I will be headed up to the great North Woods of New Hampshire tomorrow for a week of fun and snowmobiling etc. at Bartlett, NH. Of course I will be visiting my favorite HS there too.

I don't think I will be online too much because there is no Hi-speed enet at the place, and after I climb Bear Mountain with a wire in my teeth up a tall pine at the top, I might get a signal. The phone modem is at best 28Kb, so if the WiFi signal from the mountain top can get through, I might be in business, but that is a BIG "if" in such a mountaneous area.

I received an email from Fergie, the problem was a circuit board, he is underway again.

The Mrs. has some cousins that live in the Houston and La Porte area, we visited them on the July 4th weekend last year, I am very familiar with the Port Arthur area. Yep, I-10 is a straight shot from New Orleans. There is an option to view archived posts within the profile, that is how I found the one you were looking for the other day.

How about that! The Mrs. and I spent our honeymoon in the Smoky Mountains and have gone back there with the kids for vacations twice since then. We love the area so much, we even thought of possibly moving up there after the kids fly the nest. Years ago I worked for a tree service company that would go up to the areas around Cashiers and Asheville and we would cut Christmas trees and drive them back to New Orleans during the Thanksgiving holiday. I remember a place in Ashville where we would have Thanksgiving dinner, the Daniel Boone Inn. It was great family dining at its best. Fond memories!

I bet that is a beautiful sight on the coastline!
No fog today, but that could change tomorrow, the temps are supposed to drop again tonight, so you never know from one day to the next what might happen. It does get thicker as you go over areas of water, parts of I-10 that cross Lake Pontchartrain are notorious for having super thick fog, and people still drive at 70 +, what are they thinking!

matt: Our 1-ton has auto reversing lights, but it also has a pair of halogen lights mounted on the headache rack with a switch inside the cab, they're great when you're feeding cattle at night. The newer chevy's have front fog lights from the factory, but they don't last long on farm trucks, big weeds just knock them right out, and they drag off somewhere between the field and town.

Judging from all those late night posts yesterday, we might have to get us a neon sign that says "Open 24 Hours" We're just like WalMart!!!

Matt and Philnrunt, it might appear that the 'American way' of thought might be - If one really bright backup light is good, lots of 'em must be better, right? Pity any poor person trying to play 'ghosts' with night goggles who comes up behind those.

Our weather guesser is forecasting fairly clear today, with possible rain by the weekend. We had some upper level sNoah in the area that evaporated before it hit the ground yesterday, so I guess that's what happened to the possible sNoah my co-workers told me about yesterday. Hey, Tim - guess our forecaster is as (in)accurate as the west coast one, huh?[;)] But if we're not getting the wet or icy stuff, maybe at least our Coffee Shop patrons from the N.England/Nova Scotia area won't get hammered. Maybe it'll thaw out enough for the rescue crew to get to the Cornwallis, Fergie![}:)][;)]

Well, got my eggs and toast (and jam) finished, so I'll get going. Laundry trip awaits today, and it's my day(after being on-call) off. Going to call my friend Paul and see for sure if he can get my plywood cut to shape, then get a haircut, and probably read some MRR books and mags in the afternoon.

Hi all

Currently up to my elbows in bits of Ikea wardrobe (my brother, the future engineering student, has given up...[:)]). There's doors and another shelf to attach to one, then another to build from the flat pack. Lessons learned so far include that if you fit the doors first the shelves won't go in, and that if you fit the clothes rail it pulls the sides in so the shelves won't go in. They're well-designed but I wi***hey'd mention this stuff in the instructions!

About the Fog Lights - I didn't realise they weren't fitted over there. John has it right, they're high-intensity (red) tail lights intended to stop people rear-ending slow moving vehicles in thick fog. I think they're now a legal requirement on new vehicles though front foglights are optional (usually only found on high-specification vehicles - my Disco doesn't have them but the next model up does - having said that, off road they're just something else to break as they hang under the bumper). Do you guys get reversing lights fitted as standard? Noticed philnrunt mentioning that he fitted an aftermarket one, so curious if they're not a standard fit. They make reversing at night (especially with a trailer on) a lot easier as you can see what you're about to hit!

Well, back to the piles of chipboard, screws, and weird-shaped bits of metal that according to the instructions will become a wardrobe, I'll believe it when I see it [:D].

Good evening night owls. Yes even in San Diego, where we have sun, sun and more sun, the weatherman misses. Yesterday was light drizzle with a huge storm for wed- sun. It was the prettiest, cloud free day I have seen in a long time. No rain. And they predicted 2-15 inches. HA HA for now.

Tax money will go to track and scenery, maybe the carnival rides I really want to add.

Late night, gotta crash, but not with strawberry jam. [:D]
