Evening all.

For those that mentioned it, thanks for the tip about the hotel possibly holding my luggage for me. I called the hotel and I can store my luggage at the bell desk until I'm ready to leave. Now I can schedule a later train back home and take more time to put a hole in my budget at the national train show. Not being a frequent world traveler, I'm not familiar with all the services that are available to travelers.

Gumby, I think you can get one day passes for the convention. In Cincinnattil last year there was a desk at the convention center to purchase them and pay for any tours you wanted to take that day. Plus if you get any kind of convention pass at all, you get into the national train show free! From 9 AM to noon on Friday the train show is just for convention attendees. I think that's because they know we're the buyers and not just lookers.

QUOTE: Inch, Yep, soy is another great alternative fuel source.

Good, the more we burn the less we have to eat it.

At least I was able to log on here tonight. Yesterday I couldn't get in. I think it was my ISP being busy. I entered my username and pass word, hit the login button and waited...and waited....and waited....well you get the picture. I eventually gave up.

I'll drop in for the party tomorrow. See you.

Hi Gang: Well just a few more hours untill Ed and his family get here. I had two trains running on the layout tonight. I also cleaned the track so I expect that the gremlins will strick and nothing will work. I still have a few tools and the tool trays to get cleared and I'll at least be able to show ed what I've got in my head for the layout. I've got to E-mail Teffy and let him know that everything is on schedual.

Adam: I hope that I remembered to congratullate you on the tests. Good job there.

Well I'd better get on along. There are sever storm warnings out and a tornado warning for Palo Pinto county west of us.

Hey guys,

Been a while since I've been in, and boy can a person get lost if he misses a week.

Anyway, I guess A happy birthday is in order for the Coffee Shop. Man, it doesn't seem like it's been that long since we first started posting in here. And to think we are up to quite a few pages a day of talk from just one or two a day way back when.

Well guys, I won't be around much this weekend. I've got another show to display at with my module group in a little town just south of Madison. We don't figure on getting very many people, but it's a place to set up and run trains, so we decided to accept their inviation. If everything goes well I'll have show and module photos by the end of the weekend.

See you guys around,

Noah

JR:
QUOTE: A regular please and maybe an English muffin (have to find out what they are called in England?)
..we discussed this at dinner this evening. Concensus was that it’s probably a crumpet.
The difficulty lies in there being no exact equivalent. That is, if you were to serve a North American English Muffin to a Brit saying “Here’s a nice hot buttered crumpet”, they might reply, “Where?, I can’t see one, what’s this thing then?” (This besides the fact that both crumpet and tart have secondary meanings that I will leave it to UKMatt or Steve to explain, should they care to. Nudge, nudge, [;)], [;)] )

***: Sorry to hear about the fatality at the grade crossing. Sounds like it was not mere inattention. While mourning the loss, one feels also for the family, and of course the train crew, especially the engineer, who are helpless against the laws of physics.[?]

Ding:
QUOTE: Hobbylinc is sending me the track I ordered for free and I get to keep the brass that I didn't order. So I get 15' of track for free sure, it's brass but I'll use it for industrial spurs I suppose. I can't not use it with my tight budget.
…Nice going! Just shows what their margins must be if they can swallow two orders of track.[:O]
On the brass rail, I had some that I used on my last layout. When painted and ballasted only the brass top showed, and really you had to look to see where it was.[X-)] [tup]

CAMatt:
QUOTE: Tomorrow, I will be heading south to run a 15" gauge railroad in Orland, CA which should be fun.

Ryan:
QUOTE: but the 1984 edition of Megatrends by John Naisbitt is still an interesting read.
…Does that ever take me back. I though I was a really trendy pastor reading that when it came out. Can’t say it improved the sermons any, but it made one think.[8D]
QUOTE: Ryan: *** has emailed the definitive Gas Price information service…
Hey John, Wow, now that is amazing!
…as I said, it’s ***’s finding, I just relayed the message. [8)]
QUOTE: We will most likely see more automotive manufacturers trending toward building vehicles that can burn these alternatives fuels.
…Check out this month’s Popular Mechanics. There’s an analysis of that whole alternate fuel situation, and a cost forecast that doesn’t look too rosy. Mind you, I take it from their general articles that they are pretty much married to the burning of large amounts of fossil fuels with as much noise as possible.[(-D]
QUOTE: I do, however, notice that all the golf courses around here have no problem keeping their greens in the ‘green’, just wondering how they are able to water all that acreage.
…That sort of thing has been going on a long time, if Matt’s reading suggestion, “Pompeii” by Robert Harris has even a glimmer of truth to it! Good read that.

Attaboy:
QUOTE: QUOTE: Inch, Yep, soy is another great alternative fuel source.

Good, the more we burn the less we have to eat it.
…as in tofu, couldn’t agree more…but as whole roasted beans, I find they make a great mix with peanuts for snacking. Incidentally have you tried peanuts and grapes together in the same mouthful? Instant PJS![dinner] [:D]

Did get the plaster pour sorted out. I’ve been trying to disguise the edges of the access hatch at my west tunnel entrance. I’ve used far too many rock castings, and things have gotten out of hand. The whole hatch now weighs a ton! Anyway, I think I’ve got the “wings” of the hatch to blend in not too badly with the main rock wall. Here’s what I mean. The hatch is darker plaster because it’s wet. I had to soak the whole hatch in the shower so the new plaster would take without drying out.
Here’s the hatch removed.
And here it is in place.

It’s nearly midnight here, so I’ll sign off with a

COFFEE SHOP!!

Goodnight all, and God Bless. Prayers continuing for all those in need of healing, comfort, and peace.[angel]

Anyone see the last episode of The showbiz show with David Spade? In one of the segments he wore a red hat with an unidentified steam engine & the words 'railroading is fun' on it. Meaning he might be one of us....

der: thats shaping up nicely. I kinda wish I was back in that stage again. I have nothing new to create. Scenery wise, that is.

ding: Am I to understand, your 2-8-0 doesn't function any more? What be the problem? Electrical? Drive wise?

der- I'm very pleased with hobbylinc's customer service and I will order from them again.

QUOTE: Anyone see the last episode of The showbiz show with David Spade? In one of the segments he wore a red hat with an unidentified steam engine & the words 'railroading is fun' on it. Meaning he might be one of us....
And I didn't watch it. I might try & catch it sometime. Of course, ever since I got into MR, I don't hardly watch TV [8)](except for my train videos[;)])

Arrgo, on that 2-8-0- the current problem is the gear on the axle is stripped off. but it might be having more electrical problems. I gave up on it after many hours. Heck, I can't even get it back together so I just set everything in place and set it on that track I laid beside the depot. Any other Steam I buy will be IHC.

Busy weekend. I'll stop in for the CS birthday party. Very little layout time except for a bit on Saturday (I'll let the trains run while I clean the basement[:D]) and some on sunday.

Good Evening, Chloe - I'll have a dish of orange sherbet with my coffee, please. Thanks, Victor!

RT, that joke was a groaner about the man and the ostrich. I’m digging out from under a ***load of posts since my last time in the Shop, so just saw your joke earlier this afternoon. And my apologies for my tardiness on getting you those club bylaws. It being Friday now, maybe I can locate those and get them off to you over this weekend. (I hope so, for sure...)

Greg, did you ever find out what got your dog? My first thought was it might’ve been s stirred-up (mad) gopher that attacked the dog (and now is hopefully lying still somewhere under the field). Or is it possible she got too close to the gopher-getter? Is that a machine, or what? Never saw one, though I wouldn’t mind a demonstration (we have a mole somewhere in my apartment building’s front yard).

Well, decided I’m going to have to skim through the posts, or I’ll still be here at midnight our time(!). So I’m looking for any posts with ‘Jim’ in them (which could turn up OzJim , but that’s okay), so if I miss anything important, my apologies.

Hey JP, got your email - thanks! Sounds like you’re starting to make some progress on your new layout. [tup]

Ryan, sounds like your garden should hopefully be going great by now, if all the plants and seeds germinate. Well, that’s if they didn’t cook in that 90-plus weather you had there. Whew!

[#welcome] to Gumby4 , Jessie2001. and tebee ! Gumby - looks like you’ve got the hang of things already here. [tup] And Jessie - y’all come back, hear? Ask Zoe or Chloe (our twin virtual servers here in the Shop) for your beverage order, and tell ‘em to put it on my tab. Enjoy the crew in here, all of the newbies. [:)] I see that PC-Phillip already asked you about yourselves (and layout designs/dreams/progress), so I won’t repeat that.

Hey, tebee if you do start your own LHS there, our Brits in the Shop (like Steve B. and Matt (RR-ing Brit), can come check your stock when they are in the area! [;)] Of course, if you’re ever over here in the U.S., I hear Teffy (down Port Arthur, Texas way) has one of the better-stocked “LHS’s” [;)]

OzJim sorry to hear about your family problems (and Mitchell’s weather troubles with the TC!). Will keep you all in my prayers.

Cheese/Adam - congrats [bow] on your Fireman test. Good to see you’ve been in the Shop again (of course, I’d have noticed that earlier if I made it in here more often, but... y’know... [swg] icmr/Victor, you ‘been keeping yourself busy, too? [:)]

n2mopac, the secret is - if we don’t get in here at least a couple/three times a week, we get behind on the posts! Take it from one who’s slipped behind a time or two. But usually if you can scan the most recent few pages of posts, you catch a lot of what’s new. And if that’s not do-able, just pop in and say ‘hey’ and fill us in on whatcha’ve been up to. [yeah]

So, *** - what time does your blueberry stand open up? [swg] Yeah, if I had a place to grow them, I’d have blackberries, strawberries and maybe some currants, too, at those prices! [(-D]

Trent, I can relate to that ‘feeling behind’ feeling - I think there were about 18 pages for me to read when I started this post earlier this afternoon. And now, it’s a tad past when I’d intended to get to bed. Ah well... But good to hear Emily’s doing better.

Dingoix - I like the pic of your #201 loco in your signature. [tup]

Hang in there, Calif-Matt/train 284, not too much longer and you should be out for the summer. Even if you’re working, you hopefully should get some more available time for the layout and MRR’ing.

Lupo - thanks for reminding us about the Shop’s 2nd birthday! My, how time flies in this place (which also reminded me of a Groucho Marx joke, but I’ll spare our younger members...) [:O][;)] So, does that mean that Elliott will have to update the topic title yet again? [:-^][:-^]

***, I am remiss - I’ve been checking the GasBuddy site for a couple or three weeks (using a widget that pulls the info for me). In our area, sometimes there aren’t as recent prices if the people in this area haven’t sent them in. But it’s a good site, and very accurate for larger areas.

Hi, Noah! Good to see you again - and when you can, post some pics of your turntable module for those of us (like me) who have an interest in what it looks like & the how-to stuff (I know, you’ve posted some earlier on the how-to, probably...). Good luck and lots o’fun with your club’s display this weekend!

Hi, Aggro! is that F-unit an Athearn Genesis one? I got a Cotton Belt F7A that your pic reminds me of. [?] Nice scenery in that shot, too!

Yep, about bedtime for this MRR’er tonight. Got in my 20 MR magazines (including about 5 or so RMC’s). Got some reading material for a bit, with those and my now complete collection of Model Railroad Planning annual issues (from 1996 to 2006, at least). Hope everyone gets a chance for some MRR’ing time this weekend. My [angel][angel] for those ailing or awaiting test results (or getting their license back [;)] - that’s a bummer!), and will also ask for any requests that I missed in my mad da***hrough the last 18 or so pages of posts.

Blessings,

Good Morning Coffee Shop!!!

Happy Birthday to this fine establishment[bday][yeah]

JimRCGMO Thanks for the welcome

bjdukert - Think we should set up a separate thread for Philly Convention gatherings??

I don't have the time or money for the whole convention but I can spend a day or two there. I just have to wait for the July schedule to be published to know which days those will be.

Busy day today so I won't be around for the rest of the day. Have fun all.

Good afternoon, Zoe and Chloe - great job on the decorations! Did you stay up all night putting them up after I left? They look terrific, however much time it took. Well worth it. [:D] Oh, and I'd like one of Indiana Bill's chocolate 'long johns' (or whatever they're called) - the ones on the left side of the box. Yummy! Yeah, a cup of coffee with that, and a Supersized root beer float. Thanks, Bill!

I slept in this morning, but luckily it appears that the main party hasn't started just yet. Well, unless you count the early a.m. Glotown throngs. Who set up the large dance floor outside in that vacant lot across the street? Doubt that we could hold that many here inside the Coffee Shop. [;)] I think Luc's been hunting through Lupo's treasure trove of pics, from the look of it.. [swg]

Well, need to get going on some MRR things this afternoon. Got out the DPM templates last night to work on re-doing the plan for my background warehouse building (but decided not to stay up all night). No rain here in Southeast Missouri today, but just some grey clouds. I don't think they're predicting much accumulation today. Everyone take care, and someone remember to keep Flip out of reach of Chloe once the party gets going this afternoon/evening. I don't recall if Flip said if his hospitalization insurance was going to cover him if he came to the party this year. [}:)][;)][:-^][:-^][:-^]

JimRCG: Nope, no idea what got her, it looks more like a wound from metal than that of an animal though.

More later, gotta go right now,

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CS

Zoe, I'll have a big slice of that birthday cake, and throw the ice cream in the largest glass you have and fill it with root beer.

der, the tunnel hatch looks pretty good. A little ground foam and trees and you may have trouble finding it. [:-^]

Gumby, the schedule for tours at the convention has been out for a while. I received a printed copy some time ago. Check the tours at www.nmra.org. If the scheduled time isn't there let me know what you're interested in and I can check it for you. I want to post a pic here from our local paper but I have to figure out how to use the scanner part of my printer/scanner/copy machine. Once that's done maybe I can email you a copy of the printed schedule.

Not much happening here. Stopped at HD and picked up some supplies to remodel my living room. Will probably start that tomorrow.

I see we have a new sign out front. No post from Elliott though. mmmm.

Oh, my, that cake and float was good. Time to sit back with my new MR and do some reading.

Evening all and it is quiet in here right now and it looks like the girls are sitting back and taking a rest until it really gets going. Can’t say that I blame them as they have worked hard for a second year,so stay where you are girls and I’ll get my own Pepsi.

Gumby I see Attaboy gave you the nmra site and you can go to ij2006.org and I think that will give you a schedule of the events and the site I posted last night tells when it is open to the public.
QUOTE: Think we should set up a separate thread for Philly Convention gatherings??
You could give it a try, because there are some on the main forum that would be interesting to meet.

It just happen to be one of the things I looked up at before I came through the door and I think I am still a little partial to the old one,but they say change is good. At times.

Inch Nice pics as usual.

John PC has a pretty good idea for the handle and as Attaboy said, some ground cover and paint will do the trick. I know you have been working on this problem for quite a while now and I think you just about have it taken care of. OH,and did I say that it is looking good as well.

I wonder if Paul and Ed will be able to stop in tonight as I think Ed should be at Paul’s by now.

Well that’s about it and maybe I’ll stop by later to see how things are going .
Talk to you later

Good evening everyone, just got in from a full day outside , working on the blueberry posts, netting, fertilzing, etc., and none too soon. We just say a buck, a doe and three young deer near the garden. They like to eat new buds on plants, but luckily the deer netting on the sides not only serves to keep out the birds, but deer as well. We nver had this many deer around here, in fact, I never saw a deer at all here in Central Mass until about 8 years ago. I think it is due to dogs now having to be restrained, not running loose, and, not as many people hunting as in days of olde.

DER JOHN Very nice job on the tunnels, you are coming along very nicely John !!!

CAPE JIM When I was a boy, we lived in an old mill house with hardly any yard at all, so no room to grow a garden. I loved blueberries, so I would travel the woods and fields of home and bring back a gallon or two about every three days when they were in season. Now, we have about 3 cleared acres behind the house ( ask DUKE, he was there last Summer ) so I have planted 28 bushes. Is there anything any better in the morning than bluebserries on your cereal?

MIKE Didn't those CSX cars just leave New England for your turf?

CHUCK Good to see that you folks are seeing some sun out there in the far Northwest in the Subtropical rain forest. I see you have four 4-footed meteorologists also....very handy to have around when the power goes out. LOL

Well, almost Sunday, so I hope everyone has a wonderful Sunday, and praise God for what He has given us.

God Bless all you my MRR friends !!

Bump! We were on Page 2, and that shouldn’t happen on our [bday][B)]
Fergie: Thanks for the cake, a sugar free train, very thoughtful.[(-D]

Chuck and Kathy:
QUOTE: Amber the dog and she loves to be outside no matter what the weather.
…sounds just like Rosie-the-dog. Mind you Rosie isn’t safe to let indoors. No manners that girl!

Ding:
QUOTE: so I just set everything in place and set it on that track I laid beside the depot.
…I was wondering if you are going to let the engineer go see his family from time to time? [:-,]

Luc: Thanks for your excellent page![bow]
Party on!

PC:
QUOTE: That hatch looks real good. You planning on a well planted dead tree for a handle?
…Nope, that would have to have deeper roots than are available on that rock! The handle is the projecting lump in the middle. Not too easy to see from the angle I showed. Maybe this will help.
And Duke, thanks for the kind words too.[tup]

Attaboy:
QUOTE: A little ground foam and trees and you may have trouble finding it.
…thanks, and that’s exactly what I want to happen![tup] I figure some sawdust/glue mix along the edges should blur things up a treat. Then it’s painting/staining. And the ground foam. At least I’m energized again, the doldrums may be a thing of the past.[yeah]

I’ve been working on a section of the layout that doesn’t matter too much if I goof up. So I’m experimenting with ways of doing things.
Here’s a textured ground cover of stipple, latex paint and wood ash. You can’t see the texture in this photo. Maybe this one shows the difference between the rough and the smoothed out roadway beyond the tracks.
Then I cut drainage ditches all along the section I was working on, plus the main line behind it. Some of those do show in the photo foreground.
After that I cut the sides of a couple of unconnected foam beams that carry the track to make slopes, and filled in the spaces between them with masking tape so that I can fill in with the sawdust/glue mix tomorrow. Looks like I have to press that tape down better at the seams!
I’ve been looking in my Railimages for a shot of those beams “before”. As far as I can tell, I took everything else around there but that!
TV program I want to see in 25 mins. “New Tricks”, do you know it UKMatt?, Steve? We’ve been watching for some weeks now and really enjoy it.

May get back in for a night cap. TTFN.
