Good evening shop dwellers,

*** thanx for the invite, since RT's buying now maybe I'll have something good n' cold [but not containing alcohol]. I'll have to gulp it down quickly though, because I need to fini***hrowing down some WS foilage around that new rural highway scene I just added to my layout.

I noticed that one of my earlier posts about NMRA's Achievement Program resonated with a few of you (Paul, UK-Matt, Chuck) - that has always been one of my major 'soapbox' issues and I can't help talking about it now and then.

Thanx again everybody for the continuing kind comments on the propane truck conversion. BTW Chuck - the layout pictures I posted are on Page 1025, 3rd from the bottom.

Duke, I'll be there too!

Well guys, times a-wastin' and I still have lots to do, so...adios!

Hi Gang: I talked to Ed for a short while. He called to say they were at the reunion and would be here Sat about 1pm. We're supposed to get rain starting tomorrow night so I hope that it has let up by the time they get here. I need to get to the basement and do alittle more cleaning up and to the 7.5 to do the same.

I overherd this the other day here. Fergie is sitting at the table getting ready to eat. He calls Cloe over and says, "This mackrel just winked at me" Cloe replyed, "I told you it was fresh."

After that I think I'd better get as Fergie might be around.

Hey all! I'm in a good mood tonight (maybe because tomorrow is Friday?)

GRAYFOX- I would avoid bachmann (spectrum) steam at all costs. It's not worth the risk. I'd look at IHC, not the most detailed, but good runners, I hear. I've heard it's "The Athearn BB of steam".

Well, today the 2-8-0 has been put on permanent display next to the depot. I laid a short section of track and set it there. It's nice to know I'll never mess with this POS again[^]

I'm off to take a few pics for the upcoming Weekend photo fun as I've done a lot this week.[:D]

Cya all later[:)].

Good Morning All,
A regular please and maybe an English muffin (have to find out what they are called in England?). Slight overcast out there with temps in the mid 40's. Not bad.
*** - I know Dingo had a real trial with his Bachman, but I have a DCC ready Spectrum 4-8-2 and it has run fine from the beginning. I did have to pay more attention to bumps and misalignment in the track due to the pilot wandering off on its' own, but in the long run it's been good. I also have an IHC 0-8-0 switcher, and it runs but without traction tires, it can't pull more than a couple of cars and forget about hump yards. I haven't tried out my J611 yet but it looks nice. I think QC is not what it used to be. I have three Walthers FA's, one a year or so old, and a new set of FA/FB in NH colors. The old one runs well, but the two new ones are erratic if not downright spastic stopping and starting in jerks instead of smoothly pulling. I haven't dissected them yet, just put them aside until time permits but same mfr, same running gear, and two totally different sets of results. Go figure.

Time to pick up tolls, hope youall have a great day today. CUL [:D], J.R.

Coffee black and Bagel please.[;)]

Here is a link to a local newscast in Philly about my friend who is play Captain Dahl in the United 93 movie. http://cbs3.com/video/?id=25487@kyw.dayport.com There is a commerical in the beginning of the webcast, sorry about that.

Gee, with all these Coffee Shop members coming to Philly maybe we should set up a gathering.

I did see the application for the conference. It looked complicated. Can a person just go to the floor exhibits without having to buy the whole conference?

Good morning to all, another beautiful day here in central Mass, not a cloud in sight, and the temps should hit mid 60's again, it is 45F now at 9am (edst) and heading up fast from a low of 34F at 5am.

J.R. Thanks for the info on Bachmann and IHC locomotives. It is good to receive feedback from actual users.

DING You may have received a lemon from Bachmann, maybe a disgruntled employee assembled your loco, and on a rainy Monday after a bad weekend. LOL Why don't you send it back to see what they can do for you? I have heard from others on the forum who have received new/repaired locos. Worth a try!!!

Sad to say, yet another person was killed by a train here locally this past week. A 25 year old woman from New Hampshire walked out onto the tracks in the town of Brookfield, just 10 miles west of my home, onto the CSX tracks, in front of a freight train hauling 80 cars from Selkirk, NY, doing 50mph. Needless to say, the poor woman was "toast" !! It was raining lightly at the time of the accident, and the engineer said she just stepped out in front of the train. I just don't understand these accidents at all, unless it was not an accident. Either way, very sad.

Ok, time to get outside and get the bluberry patch fenced in....the birds can wipe out 30 bushes faster than we can pick them if they are not protected. Two days ago we were shopping at BJ's ( that is a member warehouse type food super store here ), and they had blueberries selling for $8.99 a quart!!!! Now I know why I work hard and grow our own!!! We can pick 2 GALLONS every day during the season from late June to the end of August. At $8.99 a QUART, man, I can have some fun at the LHS can't I !!!

Talk to you guys at lunch,

victor- have fun cleaning your car[xx(] and have fun at the prom.

grayfox- I already sent this POS back to them once, I waited 3 months, and it only ran a week and a 1/2 after that so I aint sending it to them again. She sits on permanent display next to the depot

Well, I've decided not to get an IHC Pacific because I should be spending my money on track.

Hobbylinc is sending me the track I ordered for free and I get to keep the brass that I didn't order. So I get 15' of track for free[8D] sure, it's brass but I'll use it for industrial spurs I suppose. I can't not use it with my tight budget.

Just stopping in quicly to say "Hi!" to everyone. Sadly I am not making much progress on my garden railroad. To bad school has to come before the railroad! Tomorrow, I will be heading south to run a 15" gauge railroad in Orland, CA which should be fun.

This is for all those thinking 'bout Bachmann steam--the torque on the main drive wheel is too much for the plastic part. We have ben sending all sorts of steam back as they won't send the right part or its just not avail. but they will replace it for $15 if its a H.O., $10 if its N. Me - I'd stay away from them altogether. You can try some AC on the cracked part and shaft, just let it cure for at least 24hrs before trying to run it.
Finally cought up and now time to go.

B - E - A - UTIFUL day today! The last two days of non-stop rain has given way to a clear and crisp spring day.

So……. I just got back from eating my lunch outside at one of the picnic tables across from my work. It sits under a huge oak tree, though it was quite windy out today I did get some time to relax and enjoy the weather. I also took time to read a book; it is outdated a bit, but the 1984 edition of Megatrends by John Naisbitt is still an interesting read. His future casting was for the most part right on target. A few points he makes are not valid today, but his general forecast is on target. And he did miss some of the other major events that have taken place, the end of the Cold War for example.

What’s happening in the CS today! Two days and I feel so behind!

I did catch some of the Red Sox game last night on ESPN, and the last time I checked it was a blow out! I think the Sox had 5 runs, and seems like Cleveland had 11 or something like that.

Hey Attaboy, Thanks for the NS research car update. A Google search on NS Research cars huh! Good job tracking down that info!

Congratulations Adam, on becoming a firefighter! Just goes to show you that hard work still pays off!

so long as you remember which county you are in, you’ve got your price. Check it out and see if it’s accurate!
If you like those same backwards and forwards words, try a math one. Get a calculator and do 111,111,111 x 111,111,111

Hey John, Wow, now that is amazing! Thanks for the math one, truly a unique thing! And the gas price web site is accurate; we are paying around $2.90 to $2.95 per gallon for regular.

Inch, Yep, soy is another great alternative fuel source. I also just saw an add in National Geographic this month for the new cars that can burn both regular gas and the 85% ethanol fuel blend as an alternative. We will most likely see more automotive manufacturers trending toward building vehicles that can burn these alternatives fuels.

Hey Phillip, Hello! You must have a hole in your pocket by now, huh! How many rounds you going to buy this week, my friend? As long as you’re buying……… how about a banana smoothie, girls!

QUOTE: Latest modeling project is a 4-foot stretch of asphalt road surface using sheet styrene. This is the 2nd go-round, I covered it with latex paint since the first stuff crinkled when I covered it with spray-on laquer . Nada problem though, the rough-textured Ralph Lauren 'River Rock' gray looks more like a genuine road surface anyway. I suppose I should be having great fun with this, but the recent shocks of exploding electric rates and rising gas prices have instilled this subconscious apprehension within me - now I'm wondering "what next" (bad luck comes in 3's I've always heard...)

Ken, I painted my office in our old house with that Ralph Lauren ‘River Rock’ paint and it does have great texture. The walls looked like corduroy! And at the Home Depot it sells for $29.00 a gallon, not cheap, but it is high quality stuff. As always, please share some photos, I would love to see how the ‘River Rock’ paint comes out on sheet styrene.

Main complaint seems to be that water companies are failing to fix leaks and then restricting their customers, which as might be expected doesn't go down well!

Matt, Sounds about right with the powers that be! Always making the common man suffer for their lack of planning and failing infrastructures. I do, however, notice that all the golf courses around here have no problem keeping their greens in the ‘green’, just wondering how they are able to water all that acreage. Now I do know that some have their own deep water wells, but most water around here is obtained from man made reservoirs. And I can’t imagine that a well would provide enough for an 18 hole facility.

Hotshot Charlie, Sorry to hear of your boss. Our thoughts are with you and the family. Last year was a bad year for us in that respect, I knew six people who passed away. Good luck with the career move, if it is something you really enjoy doing then you will not have a problem making the shift, and it sounds like you do enjoy it!

Hey Bill, Thanks for the donuts again! I got one this time!
