der5997 -
Terminology is the key, but remember we are talking RR, not something else!
Hump Yard is just that Hump yard. Single car distribution to 30 or so class tracks.
Ramp (Terminal) is Intermodal area so trucks or containers can be moved from a high platform onto a carrier.
Pickle, Strip, & Rack[:I] = other terms for Intermodal Yards (IMS) [:D]

Rip track = Repair track.

You can't hump the ramp, but you can trick the YM and put the carrier into the strip, and pull racks!

I better not say more!

der,
I think it's "repair in place" track. It means they repair the car without removing it from the rails.

Good afternoon gang,

It's 4:05pm EDT as I begin composing this message (let's see how long it takes me to finish it?). I'm doing this in WordPad so no danger of losing it all in a moment of ADHD...

Trent - hope Emily gets better soon, I know that's got to be worrisome. Prayers for her shall continue[angel]

Inch - Hope Sue continues recovering, still praying for her as well.

RT - That really sux about the truck driver licensing thing! I don't suppose you could get disability pay [or does that depend on your employer's participation in the program]? I know that my sister, who suffers from severe bipolar disorder, got on some type of disability... And I know that you have a medically compelling reason to apply for it.

Chuck it seems like you're having fun planning that layout, hope you and Kathy are both doing OK healthwise [or will recover soon]...

Fergie - looks like you got your hands full with sickness on both sides of the generational divide...hope you can get back to your "happy place" soon. [:D]

Jerry - hope your Dumpster Divin' nets you some treasures!

Ryan - Glad you found my ballasting pix useful [as derJohn apparently did]. But I'm no Fugate, so you may want to recall the old adage about the true value of "free" advice....![swg]

Dingo - so you'll be doing the lawn thing, eh? I was supposed to be using a tiller on my wife's garden on Saturday, but the weather forcast in my area [Mid-Atlantic] calls for rain all the way thru Sunday morning - what a disappointment![:-^]
My kids were on Spring Break this week and my wife and eldest duaghter went away to look at colleges, so I got a major MRR project ~85% done so far: Scratchbuilding a propane gas distiribution center. I want the Walthers kit but that's been long discontinued and haven't seen one on eBay lately. So I had to 'make do' with Plastruct and Evergreen. So far I've finished the twin storage tanks, the unloading platform, and the warehouse/office building. Now I need to convert a pair of Athearn Ford 'C' Series trucks into propane tankers - I just picked up the meterials to do that during lunch, now I'm dying to get home and continue on the project![:P]

. . .well that's it for me guys, it's now 4:45pm so I better get back to doing what I'm paid to do <LOL>! Have a great weekend everyone...

Ken don't forget My present employer owns a big propane distrbution center we even own our own siding for tank cars to bring in propane for us. It holds 4 cars I believe. or is it we can empty 4 cars at a time ??????

Sorry pc but couldn't help my self I asked chole for a second dish of it (on your tab ocoarse) but she said they only get that shipped in once a month and we have to let others have a chance . But its not that bad the tab was only 39.95 plus tip and I know you like to help the girls anyway you can so I told her to take 25% tip on the whole page you wouldn't mind.

Hello everyone, and good evening.

Man...It's been one sorry week for me...Nothing seems to be going right, and now serious family matter have come up...Not in the best of moods at the moment, but at least I'm not feeling like I was in school. (I punched the lunch table because there wasn't anything else around. Grr, I wish I had a punching bag). But, at least I'm feeling better.

Inch and Ken L: Glad you guys liked the videos and photos. I'll post more whenever I can.

Ken L: Thanks for the quick ballasting instructions. They'll come in handy if and when I ever get around to building a layout any time soon.

Matt: Yeah...I really do need to learn how to do that myself. But until the time being...Paying an extra $20 every so often isn't bad.

Der: Yes...Dial up...I can sympathize. We used to have it in Sykesville, and never were able to watch anything on it, because it only ran at about 26.6kbps or less. So...Yeah, not fun. I can't help you with the dimensions of the switchtower at the moment, but I do believe I have another photo of the tower at a different angle, if you would be interested?

Yes! Rain! I love the rain. I'll be see y'all later.[:D]

Good Evening Gang: Just a short note tonight. I mowed the back yard today so Ed can see the 7.5 track. Now I have to get the weed burner going and burn off the dead weeds and grass. Hey Greg, the Pronto worked just needed time and hot weather.

Well I'll say Good Night and I'll see you tomorrow.

Hey RT, that $82k makes my daughter's surgery (last year) look lame. It was a double osteotomy (double jaw surgery, correcting a severe overbite). Anyway, it was $37k. I feel your pain. I hope your insurance was better than mine. My insurance company, Blue Cross/Blue Shield of MS, wouldn't pay $13k of the bill, so I got stuck with it. My policy stated, "no more than $4500 out of pocket", WRONG ! I turned it over to the MS Insurance Commission, with no help. Oh Well..... we live, learn and go broke, paying health bills. Yuck !

Good Bless Everyone..... my prayers are with those in need.

On the turntable, yes, around it, as in the actual ground, no, it’s still blue foam. However, thanks to Ken’s ballasting efforts, I’m getting charged up to tackle that.[:D]

MNMike:
QUOTE: Ramp (Terminal) is Intermodal area so trucks or containers can be moved from a high platform onto a carrier.
…Would you have any photos, or could you point me to a website for those? I want to put a single track intermodal offloading point at one end of my upper level yard, There’s a freight house there now, but if I bend the track I have in mind, I can probably get it all to fit, unless the rack is wider than I think it may be. Hence, photos would be a great help.[tup]

I don’t even want to look at that hospital bill.[X-)] Ouch!

Ken L: that scratch project sounds like a lot of fun! This way too, it’s going to fit the site without your having to ba***he kit.[^]

Scott: Ups and downs, that’s life kiddo.[:D] Hope the family issues resolve quickly. Blending families could be a work in progress for quite a while, I guess.
QUOTE: I can't help you with the dimensions of the switchtower at the moment, but I do believe I have another photo of the tower at a different angle, if you would be interested?
Thanks for the offer, but I think I can get all the dimensions I need from your excellent photo. The door at the head of the stairs should give me all the others. I’m going to wrap my stairs around the building I think. More secure in our high winds!

The library, closed for reno for the last 3 weeks, is now open, and they had March MR ready for me today.[yeah] Also, the SeaRails gantry crane for my container dock arrived today. It needs some adapting, and I’m not totally sure if they sent me an N or a Z scale version! That’s because the space between the legs for the trains is impossibly low for N, and I’m going to have to adapt the tower to compensate. The distance between the legs is right for N, as is the reach of the boom.[%D] I’d like to power this so the boom turns. Have to figure how to do that. I’m thinking a clock cog under the platform, powered by another cog or two driven by a shaft running in a tube on the inside of one of the legs. A spare loco motor under the layout would provide power, and I could also add a stationary decoder down the road. As to raising and lowering the containers, that’s a bit more complex, as I don’t even have the container holding mechanism yet! But, lines running in a second tube down the inside of another leg come to mind. Just how these lines would go through the centre of the crane axel that would have the turning cog attached to it is not fully understood! The cab of the crane is a solid plastic casting, part of the boom, so putting the “loads” motor up there is not an option without rebuilding the boom entirely. It may come to that if I want to have the raise / lower feature. Anyway, those thoughts are the fruit of this evening’s after dinner walk.[(-D]

I’m off to read that MR. Good night all, and God Bless. Prayers for all in need of healing, comfort, and peace.[angel]

MORNIN ALL , just some coffee for now Janie,
DARN PC was buying and I missed it. But I see RT and Mike made up for me

Ryan , Gas was 2.93 here locally, we we’re in Charleston last evening
last evening and got some there for 2.81.
The increased use of ethanol or soy diesel, is not going to help with the prices much. One of the big reasons the oil companies give for the price hikes is the lack of ethanol production for the required summer blends. It seems to boil down to the farmers going broke producing corn and beans; the consumer goes broke with high utility and gas cost. And the oil companies laugh all the way to the bank with their profits, saying it’s not our fault.

Jerry , doc said I could use another 10#

RT , hope that was before the insurance paid. I think little brothers last one was bout 65,000 and that was a few years ago
When #2 son was in the hospital for most of a year, the bill worked out to$165,000 a month while they were trying to figure out what was wrong with him.

WE were going to go up the train show todayat Rockome, but with the price of gas and the fact that I've had to spend my swap meet money on other things, has changed those plans.
So today, I'm going to help Mother shampoo carpets and work some out side, may get into the train room for some more cleaning there. Mothers going to a wedding shower for our neice Tanisa, whos getting married next month.
Hope every one has a great day, prayers for all in need

Heres a joke for the day

True Fishing

TermsCatch and Release - A conservation motion that happens most often right before the local Fish and Game officer pulls over a boat that has caught over its limit.

Hook - (1) A curved piece of metal used to catch fish. (2) A clever advertisement to entice a fisherman to spend his live savings on a new rod and reel. (3) The punch administered by said fisherman's wife after he spends their life savings (see also, Right Hook, Left Hook).

Line - Something you give your co-workers when they ask on Monday how your fishing went the past weekend.

Lure - An object that is semi-enticing to fish, but will drive an angler into such a frenzy that he will charge his credit card to the limit before exiting the tackle shop.

Reel - A weighted object that causes a rod to sink quickly when dropped overboard.

Rod - An attractively painted length of fiberglass that keeps an angler from ever getting too close to a fish. School - A grouping in which fish are taught to avoid your $29.99 lures and hold out for spam instead.

Tackle - What your last catch did to you as you reeled him in, but just before he wrestled free and jumped back overboard.

Tackle Box - A box shaped alarmingly like your comprehensive first aid kit. Only a tackle box contains many sharp objects, so that when you reach in the wrong box blindly to get a Band Aid, you soon find that you need more than one.

Test - (1) The amount of strength a fishing line affords an angler when fighting fish in a specific weight range. (2) A measure of your creativity in blaming that darn line for once again losing the fish.

JERRY sent it to me
