Hi Gang: Well here we are 1000+3. I really don't think that Fergie loaded the posts to get the 20,000. No not Fergie, an officer and a gentelman. Yea. Right.

Speaking of Fergie. Which 2-10-2 did you get? I got the Spectrum 2-10-2 last month. So far I am very happy with it. It runs very smooth but does not have the pull that I think it should have. That is the problem with using plastic for the shells. All in all it is one beaut of a locomotive. I'll try adding some weight later. Right now I'm going to enjoy it as is.

No MRRing to day. I've been working on the 1to1 railroad crossing with the UP. The pipeline people put a bunch of gravel on the road and built up the approaches like I wanted. I added a bunch of dirt on the sides to ease the slope on the sides.

Well I think that I'll sign off and maybe go to the basement for an hour or so. I want to try that 2-10-2 on the grade again and see what it will do.

Hope every body be doin Ok this day. Seen the weather and looks like what we had is now headed SE, watch out fur it. Kinda nasty when it visted here. The front went trough while ago and the temps have from the 70's to now 49, less than 2 hours. cold night a comin.

Talked to RT abit ago, sounds like he's doin realy well. Told him he looked like my brother when he got his first one.

Me, I don't feel to bad, just getting winded to easy, hope that doesn't last to many days.

Hey howdy y'all, what's happening at this late hour for everyone?

I just finished working on a Bachmann N scale 4-8-4 chassis about half an hour ago. It runs better than what it did to say the least...Although I doubt it will get any better. It does satisfy my needs however. The next thing I would need to do I guess would be remotor it, since the motor is a cheap unit without a slow speed. Now, I do believe that the chassis is ready for the project I have in mind.[;)]

I'm going to the train store todat to look for some traction tires for an older Kato unit that I may use for a project as well. One never knows...[^] Maybe I'll pick up some other things as well. I just need to hit the bank first. Let's see, and then their is skating in the evening. Maybe I can fit some railfanning in there somewhere too.[:D]

Partly because of the Paint scheme, grey looked interesting and because the Logo on the tender is about the same size as the MESS Logos[^]

I have several Bachmanns and you're right they don't pull too well, weight being the issue. I also suspect it has to do with the thin prototypical wheels and the type of finish. Then again with exception of my Challenger and Allegheny everything else either needs to be Double-headed or helper service. Not big on helper service as it usually results in a MESS[:I]

I have one Tsunami ear marked for this one so it should be a noisy ride.

Anyway its Rain day here so guess where'll be! You got that right[:D]

not much happening here guys but its 21 days until the model railroad show, i can't wait! it should be great, i've never been dissapointed before!
we've had 3 days straight of COLD weather after 3 days of HOT weather, it's been very weird down here weather wise.

well today i walked 17km (round trip) why? 'coz the closest train station is 8kms away! i had to catch the train for a whole three minutes! then had to walk 500 metres to the shopping mall/centre so double that = 17km, but it was worth it, 'coz i got to see a friend that i hadn't seen since xmas! so we had a heap of catching up to do. we ended up seeing ice age 2 which was rather enjoyable even to a 16 1/2 year old. [:D].

the train i caught was absolutely covered in graffiti!, it was terrible, one whole carriage was covered, from top to bottom and even over the windows!, it looked good, but not on a train, i just wi***hey would use their 'skills' on canvas or a wall in their own home not a whole side of the carriage.

Well, it's good to see everybody on the mend. Seems like we had quite a bout there. Found out yesterday that even my grandmother had to go in the hospital. She was having a rough time, but she's better now. They'll probably release her today. Think I'll have to give her a call. I haven't seen her in a little over a year as she lives so far away. She lives in Maine and I live in Indiana, so the commute is kind of long. Anyways, it looks like everyone is doing better, so that's good.

Believe it or not it doesn't hurt I'm on no type of pain pills [:D] I'm not a big one for medication if not needed. When I first came out I remember a little pain but that was it they gave me some pain pill then but it was all.

Good morning everyone.....a cloudy cool morning here. Today is the big day for honorable son #2 who is getting married. He ordered a horse and buggy ( looks like one of Cindarellas carriages so I'm told ) to pick her up and bring here to the wedding, she doesn't know a thing about it. We sure hope the sun makes it by 11am..come on cool front MOVE the clouds out !!!

I put my name in with the Commissionaires and will be working again soon at "Province House".

Let me clarified those names. First, the Commissionaires were formed after WW1 to provide employment to x-military people. They grown and provided security details for many places. The employed x-military and x-RCMP personnel with worthwhile employment in the security field all over Canada. The biggest clients are governmental agencies such as The federal and Provincial buildings and establishments, local government as well use the Commissionaires, here you'll find then working in the police station, on the street checking parking meters etc., etc.

"Province House" is where the Nova Scotia Legislative assembly sits. An old building built in the mid-1700's, one of the few to survive the early 1910" Halifax explosion.

RT - Glad to hear you're OK. You should get another set of staples close to the ones you have, you'd get a railroad track effect. Just teasing you a bit, I don't wish you back to any hospitals ever. Also, follow Fergies advice

Hi all

Dissertation has now been handed in, so the next job on the list is packing the RV for a trip to France this week. Heading out Tuesday, think the return is the following Tuesday. Hopefully I’ll find one or two hobby shops, but they seem to be rare and expensive on the other side of the Channel. I do wonder if it’s a cultural thing – building things yourself (as opposed to getting a pro to do it for you) seems to be rather unusual, certainly DIY stores were virtually unknown when we first started visiting in the ‘80s and even now they tend to sell more camping and garden equipment than building materials. Kits and detail parts seem a lot rarer too judging by the magazines I’ve read.

Ryan, you might be better off with a good diesel than a hybrid. 50mpg is roughly what my Dad’s company car gets, it’s a 1.9 turbo Renault Laguna (mid sized car) with 6-speed manual gearbox. You get much the same economy as the hybrid but with considerably more performance, and it’s not at all noisy. The torque makes it a very relaxed car to drive as you don’t need to rev it to go anywhere – peak power is between 2000 and 3000 RPM. Sad to say, the electronics on this one have been a disaster (continual “fuel injection faults” which don’t actually exist, but cause it to go into “emergency limp home mode” with almost no power and a 2000 RPM rev limiter – the dealers have tried and failed to fix it over the four years he’s had the car). It’s being replaced with a Saab 9-3 1.9TD which should with any luck prove more reliable. This seems to be a known fault with Renaults, but other TD engines are a fine choice.

Scott, I had the telescope as a Christmas present, snag being that at this time of year it’s freezing outside after dark, so you have to be pretty dedicated to go out and look at the skies. I’ve managed to get a good look at the moon but planets still just show up as bright dots – think I need a bigger eyepiece. The other problem is the near-continual cloud cover here during the winter – hopefully I’ll get some clear evenings before long so I can use it!

Rob, thanks! The adverts were an interesting job – I scanned the waterslide decals supplied with the kit into the PC in order to get the size right, then made up the new ones in Corel Draw using some prototype photos. They were then printed on to self-adhesive labels using a standard inkjet printer. They’re not 100% accurate but look ok from normal viewing distances. The only snag now is that they keep peeling up – I was considering giving them a coat of Johnson’s Klear (floor polish) having read about people using it to fix glazing in place but am slightly worried about what it might do to the lettering.
