Good morning all, hope today finds everyone doing well.

We are up to 54 so far, suppossed to get to 65 plus rain today. Hope not. But water bill is down, and grass is very green.

GA Tom, wife's grandma's knee is fixed, but 3-6 months in wheel chair. She was suppossed to be going back to CO, where she is from, but her CA stay will be a while. The drugs still have her a bit silly, but operation appears to have come out fine. Thanks.

Your last post was very easy to read - THANKS!!!!

I bought my optivisor at the LHS. It's listed in the 2003 Walthers catalog on page 909. Don't buy the cheap imitation as it wont hold up, one of the club members did and it was just a double buy. I had two of them untill one of them fell down a flight of stairs (got knocked off the bannister, I don't know what TWIT would put it there).

I can't knock diesels to much as I've got all of the Genesis Warbonnets except one, and several Stewert FT's with the private livery on them.

You're to young to have halfhimmers and not remember a vacation.

I clean whatever part of the layout I'm going to work on, as you can see from the pictures of my layout. Hopefully the upcomming visit will clean off and get a lot of JUNK thrown away and put up.

Would you ask your friend that had the Genesis Santa Fe "F-A" number 304 if he wants to sell it and maybe you could bring it with you. I fhe does, I'll e-mail a bid for it to you.

We had just moved into an old house that I'd spent 6 years refurbing (still not done) when Stephanie had her stroke and she was wheel chair bound. She could not have gotten around in the other house as the hall was to narrow and the doors were to small but this house has all 32" interior doors so the chair was no problem. I hope this doesn't create a problem for you. Since I feel that she's going to be spending her recovery time with you - welcome to "What is that on the boob tube?" asked by you and her. I put a TV in the back bedroom for mom but she missed us, so she would rather come out here in the living room. She also likes the TV on for the "Early Morning Show Garbage" and I like the piece and quite. Don't get me wrong, I love my mother, it's just that we now have different ideas as to what is proper and right. If this sounds like some other post about " What to do about Mikey when he's too big to lay across your Knee?" it is. DON'T ask her what she thinks should go here or there as her idea is LAW.

Well I've got to go to work.

Good morning - I see that my last post is now on page 356. Hmmmmm, miss one day and that's what happens! Time to catch up ....

Spent 13 hours and 15 minutes on an Amtrak train yesterday. For those of you who browsed through my last epistle, you know that I had planned a round trip with a friend of mine.

We were supposed to have a four hour train ride - two hours to Jefferson City, MO (capital) and two hours back. Simple. If the trains were on time, we'd have roughly 40 minutes to connect with the east bound. Been there done that so many times that a "number" escapes me. Never been burned .......

Well - this time it didn't work. We were 2 1/2 hours late getting in to Jeff City - and saw the east bound pass us when we were about 5 miles from the station! We sat on so many sidings as the Union Pacific frieghts rumbled by, that even I - ardent railroader, etc. - started to bristle at those dispatchers running the control console up in Omaha, NE. These things are NOT supposed to happen, but they do and they are happening much more frequently, especially where UP is involved. Another story ........

So, having missed our connecting train, we remained on board for the entire run to Kanas City. We arrived in KCity at 4 PM - 55 minutes after the same train we were on should have "turned around" for the return trip.

We returned to the Kirkwood, MO station at 9:33 PM - not bad really, considering the schedule called for an 8:03 arrival from KCity. BUT awful when considering we should have been "home" at 12:53PM!

Fortuantely, I had booked the "Business Class" section and the limited amenities were well taken advantage of. The conductor's on each segment "looked the other way" when it came to having to pay for the added travel - so to make lemonade out of a lemon - it turned better than it could have.[:D]

My friend experienced a memorable birthday present and a St. Pat's day he'll never forget.[^]

Just that kinda day, folks - but the beer was cold and flowed - Happy St. Pat's (belated to one and all!)[^][tup]

Ken, Any chance you can show us a few photos of the EJE SD38-2’s? I’m slowly learning about the EJE, and I like the paint scheme. I’d like to see what the models look like.

Well, If you happen to look at the time that I am posting this, you may question why. I know, I should be in school. Unless that is, there is no school!!!!! Bwuhahahahahaha!!!! It snowed about 4 inches overnight, and we are supposed to get more, although it isn’t snowing now. But, I made some money, and I get the day off. My spring Vacation just got a day longer. And the best Part? I don’t have to make these days up! I graduate 8th Grade this year, and we get out the same day, June first, no matter how long the rest of the classes have to go. So, as far as I’m concerned, Let it SNOW let it SNOW Let it SNOW!!!!!!!!!!

But really, this is probably my last post until sometime Next week, unless I get the chance to pop my head in this afternoon. I leave tomorrow morning for San Fran. I hope you all have a good week. I’ll probably try reading all of the posts on Saturday of Next week when I get back, but I don’t know for sure. I’ll see ya’ll!

Heather's never been out of Ontario and Atlantic Canada high on her I want to see list(her granddad was born in harbour grace/before confederation) Grubby I think you will enjoy that P2K I've not had any problems with mine and it's a stable of 20 or so different models.Good detailing and good runners and depending on the run DCC ready otherwise if they aren't the motor is well insulated so if you are going to be od the DCC persuasion the switch shouldn't be too difficult. I'm told though that if you wi***o go DCC with proto's you need to replace the light bulbs.Again not to big a chore. Si Glad your trip was fun. This is why I travel VIA cN doesn't cause them as many problems with freight as seems to happen with Amtrack. They have a ontime or no more than 15 min. late deal with CN in the corridor(CN gets more money) if the trains make their scheduales[:0] Well I'm off for now I'll take a Tom offeered tea to go Zoe. talk to you all tonight. ANNOUNCEMENT!
The CAW staff and ownership would like to announce that this morning, surveyors began marking out rail lines for the engine terminal and sidings at Ashton, on the Colorado, Arizona and Western’s newly obtained properties. The first two sections will contain enginehouse with fueling and water services for CAW’s switching units (both steam and diesel), as well as two sidings for industry usage and another siding for the Ashton freight station (which will provide LCL services for the Ashton area).

The surveying crew was pleased to learn that there already are two local establishments where they can eat during their lunch breaks - Skip’s Ribs and BBQ, and Kelly’s Saloon, (which is still recuperating from taking down the decorations from yesterday’s St. Patrick’s Day festivities). It is also reported that adjacent to the Ashton station (soon to complete construction), a local chef is planning to open a diner.

CAW management also announces that the Ashton Business Development council is in final negotions for two industries which it expects will be locating on one of the industrial sidings. Further news on the specific companies will be forthcoming.

CAW officials said they expect that track locations will be set within the next week, and track laying should begin soon after that.

Well all - as for the promotion board, I felt as though I did not do so hot. But, from the feedback I've goten from my Lt, (he was the officer on the baord), he was very pleased with my answers, and military bearing. I was graded on 1 of 2 parts of the board, the 2nd part, they told me was not going to be graded, just was used a guinea pig to help the board study revamping the areas of where they can get questions from.
So, with that said, no - I did not ask when I'll get promoted, but the Lt did say - 'Do not worry about it. You are all set' So, one can only assume that I will get the promotion. There's been talk that it will happen April 1st (Nice April Fool's Day prank if they don't do it though...) Also, I found out this morning that I had been selected as my squadron's NCO of the Quarter for the period Oct - Dec 2004. So, that only helps matters out as for my promotion.
Anyways, Chloe, put everyone's order on my tab again today, as I feel that the news was of a good nature ( Promotion talks and NCO of the Quarter) I'll be getting some 'Blue' tonight on my way home.
Speaking of 'Blue' - When I was in Cold Lake Canada a few years ago, I was shocked to see all the 'locals' drinking Budwiser! Most of my buds and I were drinking 'Blue' Come to find out, the Bud in Canada is made stronger than the Blue that's made up there. But then again, the Blue made up there is stronger than that of it's twin made down here in the States!

Good morning all--it's cloudy here in SunnyCal, predicted rain for most of Spring Break, which means that the Palm Sunday procession at my Parish may be a little wet. Glad all of my plaster's dry on the layout. Spooky finished shredding about a week's worth of furnace filter, so I can spend the week running trains and building trees. Had to grind out the inside of one of my new extension tunnel openings last night to let my Yellowstones through (the overhang on those babies is FEROCIOUS!!), but you can't tell anything (tunnel's kind of hidden by a highway overpass anyway). Yellowstones are happy--but you'd think after all this time I'd know better than to put my tunnels on a curve, right? WRONG!!

Der: Thanks again--about 1:30 yesterday, my e-mail erupted from the school--VERY happy Faculty Campers on those definitions--especially the 'extra credit' one.

Fergie: How about a photo of that 'missing' span, courtesy of the RDC? Loved your post, it brought back some REALLY neat memories.

Noah: Glad you're feeling better--colds and flu this time of year seem to be especially yucky. While you're in SF, check out CalTrains, BART and their streetcars--BNSF and UP also have a lot of action across the Bay in Oakland, along with CalTrains and AMTRAK. And if you get down near the Santa Cruz area (about 50 miles south) there's a couple of neat tourist trains there, a little narrow-gauge 'logging' railroad and a tourist connector line from Santa Cruz that goes through some really BEAUTIFUL coast redwoods. I think you'd like, very much!!

TomW: Your post about those very beautiful SOUTHERN RY light Mountains hit kind of a nerve with me, too. SP had some really handsome Mountains in their MT class--none of which were earmarked for preservation. Funny, the railroads seemed to either preserve their 'little' switchers, or their newest power, I can't think of hardly any 4-8-2's preserved, either, anywhere. Of course Rio Grande slaughtered their steam wholesale, when they converted, so about the only steam you can find for that railroad is their narrow-gauge equipment. Too bad.

Well, time to feed the furries, then wander out into the garage and see what I can do until the rains come. Think I'll run trains. After all, the good folks in Sierra City have been waiting a while for the tracks to come through, might as well give them a show, what?

Well it's currently raining in LA.... it hasn't really made it out here yet. It appears that Tim is going to make it out of this current storm with hardly any rain.

Had an alright St Patty's day Yesterday. Tried a new drink last night Beamish Irish Stout. It's a good malted beverage but it's not as strong as a Guiness.... which we here in the US have the best.... according to the folks at Guiness Brewing Co.

Nothing much going on today just going to relax and wait for the rain till I have to pick up my bro from work tonight at 10:30

Evening all

Well, had a successful trip to the LHS today - came away with a near-mint, boxed, Fleischmann buffet car. I don't know how old it is but I'm guessing ancient! (box design suggests '60s though I don't know when they used the different box designs) Interestingly I was able to fit the same type of Profi couplers as on my more recent equipment, and it doesn't look too out of place coupled next to new equipment, though it is noticably taller if you look closely. Good looking car though!

Steve, I think I read somewhere that some preserved steamers have now covered more miles than they did with their original builders - City of Truro must have - now 100 years old and recently returned to steam!

Well, increasingly looking as if I'll be going to Ontracks' Fleischmann DCC open day on Sunday (20th) - hope I manage to get down there as I have a few technical questions to ask (and emailing Fleischmann UK is hopeless!), also could do with a few small bits and pieces (more couplers) that wouldn't be worth mail ordering. Should be worth the trip!

Ga. Tom, I'm reading Masks of the Martyrs by Jack Chalker. It's the first in a four book series The Rings of the Master. Of course if I read the first one, I will no doubt end up reading the other three. I read them all several years ago but enjoy going back and reading them again.

A little story, several years ago when my older daughter was 4-5 years old I was sitting in my favorite chair extremely engrossed in a good book. All of a sudden my daughter was tapping on my arm almost yelling "Earth to Dad, Earth to Dad". Seems she had been trying to get my attention for a while and I didn't hear her. [X-)]

Worked on train room entrance door today. I was going to work on the layout, but two things got into the way:
1. Grandkids like to touch, can't blame them, but I do need to keep some control when I am not present, so I decided to frame the door. I did this from scratch because I had an unused door from past upgrade upstairs, but I have to build the frame.

2. I decided to get more ideas from the forum folks on laying out my 10'-6" X 20' room. If I do the layout strictly on my ideas and MRR Mag., I am missing out on hundreds of good ideas, do's and don'ts from those who have been there--done it. So I will gather more info first while I fini***he "locking" door.

No, Rob, that’s way north of here. Your road from Greenwood would be a mix of single and twinned highways up to and just beyond Halifax/Dartmouth, then a not well maintained but scenically very good run up the eastern shore to beyond Sheet Harbour. Dartmouth is where both Fergie and Luc live. I was thinking distance rather than scenery with the 401 reference

The roll of cork has a bit of a bend to it, but I'm figuring I can cut single
or double track width pieces and weight the cork down while I'm
gluing it down. Oh yeah, need a good-sized bottle of glue (white?
carpenter?) for the cork, and nails for nailing the track down.
Plus some insulated joiners, perhaps, and get out my NMRA gauge.

Tomorrow, I'm supposed to go check out one car a dealer has in. Hopefully ,
it'll be decent and affordable and I'll be back on wheels. [tup]

Well, my tummy's full. [zzz] Church singles small group had a potluck [dinner]
before our study tonight - plenty of food, and I got sent home with the remainder
of a batch of brownies. May need to freeze some of those so I don't
totally blimp out. I was actually beginning to lose some excess weight
before tonight. [:O]

Tomorrow I also need to pick up a camera and start taking
pictures of my progress on the layout - if only to reassure some others
that they aren't the only one(s) making slow progress. [}:)]

I hired the sprigging done. All I did was stand around and watch and putter with a little brush removal. I did get my tractor with the front end loader to stack the brush but that only took a few minutes.

I haven’t seen you in lately. It sounds like you are making progress which is more than I can say for myself. Those last minute sightings have a habit of hitting you in the pocket book.

***; Have you checked the layout planning books. Also 101 Track Plans? I’m hesitant to make any suggestions at this stage as I don’t know what you want to accomplish. Where is the door located? OK, one suggestion. Do curves as large a radius as possible. How do you feel about duck-unders?

JP; that does sound encouraging. My son in law recently got promoted to Master Sergeant. I remember that he does a lot of studying for the board. As an old CW 2 I’ll be pulling for you.

Teffy; I think that you have me confused with someone else. The only friend I know of that is into Sana-Flush hasn’t been doing any MRRing for some time. Long before the Genesis series came out. He did have some stuff but I think that he has sold all of it. I’ll ask him anyway. By the way, he’s also my Computer wizard and he’s moving to Denver. ARRRGGG.

Evening all-
First to Teffy (and bjdukert) - I looked over that last post and it looks a bunch better than my old ones. Thank YOU, Bob and you too, Duke. Constructive criticism is a wonderful thing, and here it seems to be taken in the spirit it's given. Again, thanks.

Kenlarsen- Be verwy verwy careful- thats how they get you! They just lay in the box, looking all innocent, then the next thing you know, you have them setting in a mock lash-up, "just to see what they would look like", then you have magniviewers on, sweat is running and even tho you are diabetic, you don't eat because you just have " a few more parts to attach!" Oh, my friend, I know the feeling. But when they are done, they look great! Aren't those fans spectacular? And the trucks are as good as I've seen. I have 665 finished, and will (hopefully) get USS#1 done early this next week. The orange and the blue really set each other off, and of course my shortline dosn't have the ready ca***o get their new used power repainted any time soon.. Oh wellllll. Enjoy, Ken.

Talked to my friend in Colorado today, Amy and I might just do the Ed thing and head out there later this year and maybe catch a ride on the ol' D&S.
