Afternoon all -
Well, another week comes to a close. Unfortunately, I am at work this weekend. On a good note, I passed my midterm with a 88! [yeah]

Der John -
Thanks for the beverage! Greatly appreciated my friend!

Inch, RT -
Please take it easy guys! I don't think any of us want to make a lengthy trip right now for a funeral. Not to say that lentghy trips are not good, those for funerals just are no fun at all!

*** -
Hope the weather was pleasant for # 2 son's wedding! Please pass on the obligatory [^] [tup] congrats to the newlyweds!

Before I go, my thougths and prayers to those who need them. Especially, our friends in Tennessee, and the other states that got hit with the bad weather these past few days. [angel]

Ok all, time for me to get going and make sure the wrok is being done right by the p/t'er's. Later on, I'm going out to Kalmbach's site and order myself a few items - MRP 2003 and 2006, GMR 2007 (yes, they're doing the advance sales already - not due to ship till October), and the new book Realistic Layouts. May find a few more to get while I'm on there.

Take care and have a great day!

JP

Hunter - When we met in January of 2000, you were just a 6 week old pup who walked his way into this heart of mine as the only runt in the litter who would come over to me. And today, I sit here and tell you I am sorry we had to put you down. It was the best thing for you and also the right thing to do. May you now rest in peace and comfort. Love, Dad. 8 June 2010

I love you and miss you Mom. Say hi to everyone up there for me. Rest in peace and comfort. Love, John. 29 March 2017

Good afternoon all: Rain and wind here last night, but we are not complaining. Terrible storms in the mid-west, and floods a-rising in the Red River valley. Our condolences to all affected.

Elliot:
QUOTE: John, I will be changing the sign out front at the end of the month. I promise to remove the word "lousy", but I really want to de-emphasize the entire food thing. This is about making friends and talking trains, and in that regard, it has been a smashing success.
…It has indeed, and thanks for thinking it up and sticking with it.[bow]

Fergie:
QUOTE: Ordered myself one of these puppies!

That’s a beauty. Big photo file too, no wonder you posted the site.

OZJim:
QUOTE: derjohn much happening lately?
Well, I went to run trains, as I said, and found I had to call out the gandy dancers. The track leading into the last main line turnout I powered had gone out of gauge.[V] The first train through there derailed the lead truck, and the second coach.[%-)] Fortunately I was able to drill a hole small enough for a rail spike (I’ve had a packet of hand laying rail spikes for over 20 years now, and use them for this sort of thing) to be held vertical while I pulled the rail over into gauge, and pressed the spike home through the plastic tie with a soldering iron. Did the trick, I’m happy to report. The I moved my one cut of three container cars off the dock and onto the mainline. This only involved removing the new engine shed, cutting out the foam scenery behind it to give more clearance, swapping over one of the un-prototypical looking extended coupler sets on the last car with a standard one on the lead car. Oh, and putting the engine shed back at a slightly different angle to accommodate the set-back. There’s nothing like running trains! [swg]
QUOTE: I'll take that $20 off your hands
I bet! That’s A$ 27.55 [8D]
QUOTE: the train i caught was absolutely covered in graffiti!, it was terrible, one whole carriage was covered, from top to bottom and even over the windows!,
I’ve never figured why some mmrs put that stuff on their models. Imho it’s bad enough in real life.[V] [2c]

Mike: Glad you’re feeling better. I’m glad too that Elliot’s getting rid of the “lousy food” reference, but agree that the Coffee Shop name should stay.[tup]

Lupo:[#welcome] to the main floor! As ever, great gifs. Luc has taken over as gifmeister in your absence, as you may have noticed.[:D] Something to do with nature’s abhorrence of a vacuum.[swg]

Ken L:
QUOTE: I just noticed, it seems like everybody at the center of the anniversary celebrations is from Nova Scotia (Luc, derJohn, Fergie) - coinicidence or what?
…not just Nova Scotia, but all from the Halifax Regional Municipality. What’s up with that!!![:O] [:P] [:-,]

Luc:
QUOTE: I put my name in with the Commissionaires and will be working again soon at "Province House".
Congratulations! Hope you enjoy that. I met the conservator who re-did all the gilt picture frame there. Take a close look, as that’s not gold anymore, but who could tell? [X-)]
QUOTE: help yourself any time.
…gee, thanks.[^] I’ll go and bookmark that right away.[(-D] And thanks too for looking after the 1K page poll with such an efficient result![swg]

PC: What is it that you and “We have a printing press” Ben Bernake have in common? [swg]

JP was in the shop when I turned the page. Come on over Sir, and let our fine staff serve you the beverage of your choice. I’ve just got tea, and it’s a bit too hot to drink just now. And you are right in one respect about HO and N. The N vehicles cost an arm and a leg in comparison. The re-issue of th Atlas (I think, maybe Walthers) Ford Taurus is a case in point. Nearly twice as much for the N versiion.[V]

Since it’s stopped raining, I’d better scram and get some more fire wood in for the weekend.

NC - Forget N scale unless you're 'N' earsighted! [:D] Go with HO as it's the scale most closely related to die cast cars like Matchbox and Hot Wheels, albeit they're a little bigger than HO.

BTW, welcome to the CS and have a drink on me today!

Hi all

Dissertation has now been handed in, so the next job on the list is packing the RV for a trip to France this week. Heading out Tuesday, think the return is the following Tuesday. Hopefully I’ll find one or two hobby shops, but they seem to be rare and expensive on the other side of the Channel. I do wonder if it’s a cultural thing – building things yourself (as opposed to getting a pro to do it for you) seems to be rather unusual, certainly DIY stores were virtually unknown when we first started visiting in the ‘80s and even now they tend to sell more camping and garden equipment than building materials. Kits and detail parts seem a lot rarer too judging by the magazines I’ve read.

Ryan, you might be better off with a good diesel than a hybrid. 50mpg is roughly what my Dad’s company car gets, it’s a 1.9 turbo Renault Laguna (mid sized car) with 6-speed manual gearbox. You get much the same economy as the hybrid but with considerably more performance, and it’s not at all noisy. The torque makes it a very relaxed car to drive as you don’t need to rev it to go anywhere – peak power is between 2000 and 3000 RPM. Sad to say, the electronics on this one have been a disaster (continual “fuel injection faults” which don’t actually exist, but cause it to go into “emergency limp home mode” with almost no power and a 2000 RPM rev limiter – the dealers have tried and failed to fix it over the four years he’s had the car). It’s being replaced with a Saab 9-3 1.9TD which should with any luck prove more reliable. This seems to be a known fault with Renaults, but other TD engines are a fine choice.

Scott, I had the telescope as a Christmas present, snag being that at this time of year it’s freezing outside after dark, so you have to be pretty dedicated to go out and look at the skies. I’ve managed to get a good look at the moon but planets still just show up as bright dots – think I need a bigger eyepiece. The other problem is the near-continual cloud cover here during the winter – hopefully I’ll get some clear evenings before long so I can use it!

Rob, thanks! The adverts were an interesting job – I scanned the waterslide decals supplied with the kit into the PC in order to get the size right, then made up the new ones in Corel Draw using some prototype photos. They were then printed on to self-adhesive labels using a standard inkjet printer. They’re not 100% accurate but look ok from normal viewing distances. The only snag now is that they keep peeling up – I was considering giving them a coat of Johnson’s Klear (floor polish) having read about people using it to fix glazing in place but am slightly worried about what it might do to the lettering.

Bye for now

and please.

Good morning

Tried to get CFO up and got this ... Well I best get up .

Heard there was a wedding today. Hum.. What should I wear!!!!! I know . NO NO NO that's not it and stop peeking....

There, Ready to go!!!!

Somebody (sorry, I can't remember who) ask how retirement was, well to be honest, IT STINKS

I put my name in with the Commissionaires and will be working again soon at "Province House".

Let me clarified those names. First, the Commissionaires were formed after WW1 to provide employment to x-military people. They grown and provided security details for many places. The employed x-military and x-RCMP personnel with worthwhile employment in the security field all over Canada. The biggest clients are governmental agencies such as The federal and Provincial buildings and establishments, local government as well use the Commissionaires, here you'll find then working in the police station, on the street checking parking meters etc., etc.

"Province House" is where the Nova Scotia Legislative assembly sits. An old building built in the mid-1700's, one of the few to survive the early 1910" Halifax explosion.

RT - Glad to hear you're OK. You should get another set of staples close to the ones you have, you'd get a railroad track effect. Just teasing you a bit, I don't wish you back to any hospitals ever. Also, follow Fergies advice
RELAX

Der John - I collect these .gif file from everywhere and anywhere and save them to my photobucket account, http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v631/luct/?start=0 help yourself any time.
Fergie - Congrat on the 20k. It's a N.S. sweep this time.

Elliot - Good to see you here again. How's Big Girl? Can't wait to see the progress on the your layout. Thanks a bunch for creating this. By all accounts it continues to be a success.

*** - hope to see some pics of this wedding. How do I look?

Lupo - Where have you been? Good to see you again

Happy Saturday gang,

Not much time for chitchat, just wanted to say hello. inch and RT, take it easy you guys. RT, I'm sure a few add-ons from Detail Associates could cover that up quite nicely, but don't let CFO get a hold of the DTR-400 - then you'll be totally at her mercy![:O][(-D]

Morning All!
the celebration of two landmark-moments 20.000 posts on 1004 pages! in the coffee shop made me decide to come out from lurking beneath the floorboards and post some cheers for the occasion:

I hope the shop will stay aboard much longer, though I do not frequently post lately, I do have great memories and met really nice people over here!

FYI: as far as I know the difference in pages ( 1004 ) and posts ( 20,000 ) was caused by Bergie coming in to remove some nono's that were causing [censored] and [banghead]

Good morning everyone. Nothing like a nice cup of coffee in a Western Maryland Fireball mug, while listening to some tunes.[:D]

What's with everybody getting rain??? It's been raining for hours now. It started over night, and it is still continuing. I wonder what this will do to the attendence at the roller rink? I hope it discourages people from driving. It'll probably raise it though, because no one can do anything outside when it is like this.

YAY! Train Store today!!![:D]

Elliot: What about "The Coffee Shop - Great conversation since 2004?" It's almost been two years since it was established...Wow, I just realized that. Can't wait for the anniversery party.[;)]

Good morning everyone.....a cloudy cool morning here. Today is the big day for honorable son #2 who is getting married. He ordered a horse and buggy ( looks like one of Cindarellas carriages so I'm told ) to pick her up and bring here to the wedding, she doesn't know a thing about it. We sure hope the sun makes it by 11am..come on cool front MOVE the clouds out !!!

RT Glad to see you are home and doing well. What model DECODER did they install in you? I hear it was a Tsunami LOL[:)][;)][;)][(-D][(-D] I also heard that the controller is in the hands of your CFO so you had better be a good boy or else.
I am surprised they didn't install a zipper, that way when they need to chan ge the batteries in 5 years or so, it would be a quick "zip". LOL
We are happy to have you back with us RT, read all those Kalmbach books that you never had time to. And now you have plenty of time to go through EVERY page of that huge Walthers catalog.

Mornin' all,

OJ, tall, please,....thanks!

Well, it's good to see everybody on the mend. Seems like we had quite a bout there. Found out yesterday that even my grandmother had to go in the hospital. She was having a rough time, but she's better now. They'll probably release her today. Think I'll have to give her a call. I haven't seen her in a little over a year as she lives so far away. She lives in Maine and I live in Indiana, so the commute is kind of long. Anyways, it looks like everyone is doing better, so that's good.

BTW inch,
I'm going to pay for the OJ myself today because we don't want any more problems from you when you see the bill for all the drinks on the page![:O][:-^][swg]

RT, or should we call you frankie?,
That looks like it might smart just a bit! Take care, OK?

All,
Well, I'm outta here! I'll keep prayin' for ya!

evening all, i see

fergie got the 20,000 [8D]

RT i hope all is well with you, thats a ummm *nice* picture there [:0] staples aren't the most pleasent thing to have.

inch hope you feel better soon, take it easy [^]

derjohn much happening lately? thought i'd ask see what the local happenings are.[8D]

Pcarrel i'll take that $20 off your hands [:p]

wetidlerjr i'll take one of those donuts, thanks [;)]

not much happening here guys but its 21 days until the model railroad show, i can't wait! it should be great, i've never been dissapointed before!
we've had 3 days straight of COLD weather after 3 days of HOT weather, it's been very weird down here weather wise.

well today i walked 17km (round trip) why? 'coz the closest train station is 8kms away! i had to catch the train for a whole three minutes! then had to walk 500 metres to the shopping mall/centre so double that = 17km, but it was worth it, 'coz i got to see a friend that i hadn't seen since xmas! so we had a heap of catching up to do. we ended up seeing ice age 2 which was rather enjoyable even to a 16 1/2 year old. [:D].

the train i caught was absolutely covered in graffiti!, it was terrible, one whole carriage was covered, from top to bottom and even over the windows!, it looked good, but not on a train, i just wi***hey would use their 'skills' on canvas or a wall in their own home not a whole side of the carriage.

P.S ELLIOTT good to see you in here!

Speaking of Fergie. Which 2-10-2 did you get? I got the Spectrum 2-10-2 last month. So far I am very happy with it. It runs very smooth but does not have the pull that I think it should have. That is the problem with using plastic for the shells. All in all it is one beaut of a locomotive. I'll try adding some weight later. Right now I'm going to enjoy it as is.

Partly because of the Paint scheme, grey looked interesting and because the Logo on the tender is about the same size as the MESS Logos[^]

I have several Bachmanns and you're right they don't pull too well, weight being the issue. I also suspect it has to do with the thin prototypical wheels and the type of finish. Then again with exception of my Challenger and Allegheny everything else either needs to be Double-headed or helper service. Not big on helper service as it usually results in a MESS[:I]

I have one Tsunami ear marked for this one so it should be a noisy ride.

Anyway its Rain day here so guess where'll be! You got that right[:D]

Hey howdy y'all, what's happening at this late hour for everyone?

I just finished working on a Bachmann N scale 4-8-4 chassis about half an hour ago. It runs better than what it did to say the least...Although I doubt it will get any better. It does satisfy my needs however. The next thing I would need to do I guess would be remotor it, since the motor is a cheap unit without a slow speed. Now, I do believe that the chassis is ready for the project I have in mind.[;)]

I'm going to the train store todat to look for some traction tires for an older Kato unit that I may use for a project as well. One never knows...[^] Maybe I'll pick up some other things as well. I just need to hit the bank first. Let's see, and then their is skating in the evening. Maybe I can fit some railfanning in there somewhere too.[:D]

Elliot: Welcome back, good to see you again in the Coffee Shop.[8D]

Well y'all, I'll catch you later.

Thanks Ferg. If you want to cut and paste the email to share it with everyone, be my guest. I might have a copy of it stashed away myself, but I'd have to dig.

John, I will be changing the sign out front at the end of the month. I promise to remove the word "lousy", but I really want to de-emphasize the entire food thing. This is about making friends and talking trains, and in that regard, it has been a smashing success.

Well I'm back onboard, on my new bateau (french for big boat) and I have broadband internet (for now) so it' nice we have place to "get a hair cut and have a cup-a-java. Hopefully we can keep it respectful and friendly and the sand box bullies at bay and pass that magic number of 938.

Intersting to note that the Senior Engineer onboard builds steam engines on the side and is building a replica of a Royal Hudson, not in HO scale but 1/8th scale. His pictures are awesome!

Anyway back to work!

This goes back to post 20. Wow! 20 to 20,000. Who would of thought!?! It's been a slice and I hope to be here for 30K, 40K and on and on...

Elliot> it was a good idea and I might still have the e-mail you sent me asking whether or not this was worth pursuing. Guess what old man. It worked and worked well

Kudos go to you!

Fergie

… Do you think that to celebrate, we could upgrade from lousy food to fine cuisine?[dinner] [tup] [(-D] The girls have worked really hard this last six month to hone their kitchen skills, and Flip hasn’t bothered them while they’ve been doing that. So now they are all accomplished cooks, and we should acknowledge that by a change of label.[^]

TupeloRob: Take care and take cover! Hope the storms stay at a safe distance.[angel]

RT: See what you mean about Frankenstien’s monster.[(-D] Much rather you than me![:O]

I’m off to play trains. See you guys later.

Hi Gang: Well here we are 1000+3. I really don't think that Fergie loaded the posts to get the 20,000. No not Fergie, an officer and a gentelman. Yea. Right.

No MRRing to day. I've been working on the 1to1 railroad crossing with the UP. The pipeline people put a bunch of gravel on the road and built up the approaches like I wanted. I added a bunch of dirt on the sides to ease the slope on the sides.

Well I think that I'll sign off and maybe go to the basement for an hour or so. I want to try that 2-10-2 on the grade again and see what it will do.

Good Night All and my prayers for everyone that is needing.
