Just got in from spackling the canyon under the new(est) bridge. It's a through truss. I don't have enough through trusses on my layout (this is the second). Now, while I wait for the canyon to dry, I'll get to work on the other side of the ridge on my viaduct, tomorrow. God, I think I'm infected!! Right now, I've got more bridges than SP had in the Sacramento River Canyon! Pete came over from across the street (I must have done something right, he had a can of Millers in his hand instead of Bud Light. I'm getting through to the boy!). Showed me his latest RC car that he just finished. If I could get this kid into model railroading, he'd have pigeons perched on telephone wires, that's how good a detailer he is! 1:47 and he installed wires on the spark plugs, for God's sake!
Ed: Glad you liked the cats--you're right, they're REALLY furry little devils, aren't they? Which means that come Spring, they shed in clumps! Swear to God, that pic of you wiring your 'door' makes me want to convert to N scale, if I didn't have so much invested in HO. ("And how do you wire YOUR layout?" "Oh, just up-end it, heh-heh!")
Steve: Glad you ran that pic again--I LOVE that sunken Alco! Still thinking of bashing up a boxcar with a soldering iron and putting it at the bottom of the Dark Canyon bridge. Problem is, I gave all my old junkers to my grand-nephew (he liked them) and I just can't part with a new Accurail right now. Oh well---
Gonna turn in early, had a blood-pressure siege today that left me really tired. Dr. put me on another medication, and it takes a while to get used to. Blood-pressure came back to normal, so hopefully this will take care of it. Told me to eat more fruit. I told him I've gone through every peach in California, I'm working on George right now, and Mexico's next. Asked him if I could have an occasional beer, he asked me when was the last time I had one, I told him Christmas Eve, he just shook his head and said, "You should drink more." I LIKE this guy!
Time to go, Spooky has decided to use Wiley as a basketball again. Or a hockey puck, I'm not sure which. Whichever it is, he's barking up a storm! Cute cat, but I don't think he's the brightest light in the harbor.
Take care, all.

Good evening everyone.Just a quick drop in had a late one at work some I'm tired.Need to retire soon LOL.I see everyone's getting ready for baseball season, not my favorite sport but with no hockey I'll struggle through watching it. I did notice that the blu Jays managed to win their first pre season game (sorry Elliot) I have a request for everyone, not sure the American members heard or not but the RCMP had four officers shot and killed yesterday so prayers for their families. I talked to my Dad and He's thinking of flying out for the funerals being that he's a retired PC. Well I'm off for tonight , Rob

Hey guys, stop over in the Garden forum and check out the off topic thread. They have killed the coffee shop, now the guy, Troy Betts, has returned complaining about the off topic thread. 1 line of support would be most appreciated by all the coffee clubbers here.

Hopefully everyone will check out your pictures as it is well worth it.

Hello all,
KEN LARSON, just had a peek at "The Iron Belt" what can i say but WOW, that is an impresive piece of work you have done there, just goes to show what you can build without buying expensive kits, just bought some plastic waste pipe for my steel mill, you can only see the back as it's built against the wall, even so it will be quite well detailed (eventually)[bow][8D][bow]

Good Morning All:

It's been so long since I've been in that most of the Newbies don't even know who I am. I can't believe how prolifick everyone is.

My turntable is finished, all wired and ready to put on or in the layout. I finished wireing in the decoder to run the 12 volt TT motor. It sure does make alignment easy on the eye, being able to make the bridge creep. I'm going to take some pictures today and see if I can get them posted.

Ed:
What do the Red Socks do? I wish my gut was your size, I've got to loose some weight as my blood sugar has been out of control for the last two weeks and the weight has been over 212 #s.

Fergie:
Glad that you are back. How's the "pink panther" doing? Sounds like very well. I sent some blond jokes to Lisa and I don't know if I offended her or not but I hope she enjoyed them. Did you get your e-mail on the painted wedding dresses?

Well I'm going to go up to the train room and have some fun.

Ya'll have a blessed day and remember SANTA FE ALL THE WAY

Steve, great photos on your site! I loved the one you put up for John - the easy way to model an industry? [}:)][;)][tup]

Might want to hear more on how you did the weathering/'rusting' of the Atlas bridges. I like that. Though, I might want mine to be a tad less rusty, I want some realistic rusty parts like you have on yours.

Good Morning Coffee Clubbers

Finally got some rain last night. Nothing very heavy, but a nice soaking rain for about 6 hours. Should help out the local farmers. Nice and cool this morning.

Trying to get my courage up to jump into ground foam application this morning. Time to make at least part of the layout start to look like something non-artificial.

Sheetrock, when you can find it down here, is called tablaroca, pretty close translation of sheetrock. It’s not that common, as framed construction isn’t common. Most homes, ours included, have masonry walls and the interior surface is smooth stucco, just a sand/cement mix trowelled on about ¾” thick.

QUOTE: BridgeTom: Told me to eat more fruit. I told him I've gone through every peach in California, I'm working on George right now, and Mexico's next.
I’ve got one word for you……. "smoothies". Based on my brief three days of experimenting with them it looks like you can dump just about anything into your blender and have it come out okay.

Rob, bad news about those Mounties. I found the story by searching the web after hearing what you said. I always hate to hear about law enforcement officers getting killed in the line of duty. One of my cousins is a career RCMP officer, fortunately not in Alberta.

QUOTE: Teffy: It's been so long since I've been in that most of the Newbies don't even know who I am.
[#welcome] Welcome to the Coffee Shop, Teffy. Tell us a little about yourself and….. oh, that you Bob?

QUOTE: I wish my gut was your size, I've got to loose some weight as my blood sugar has been out of control for the last two weeks and the weight has been over 212 #s.
I’ll have you know you’re looking at around 237 there, guy. [:D] I’d be ecstatic to be at 212 again. Of course, it’s not like I’m doing anything special to get back there. [:I] And the new discovery of smoothies isn’t going to help any either.

Okay, got to get off the keyboard and on the layout.

Hasta luego,

Ed

Now Fergie, you did ask, right? [;)] I was tickled (not pink, though[;)]) at the age-old someone trying to keep others from saying/doing something, like the forum's self-censoring software (as you so well pointed out). Other applications of that would be all the ways software companies try to copy-protect software, but the people needing to actually use the software (plus the real software pirates) just figure out a way around it. I'm sure someone really bent on posting something they really don't need to say on a forum could find a way around the software (crossword-style?). The 'hacker' mentality (in the original meaning, as someone who thinks information is meant to be shared and also wants to just figure things out for the challenge of it). Is that like trying to figure out decoders? Nah, better not mention those to Fergie right now...[}:)][;)]

BTW (By The Way), Fergie - congrats on what you did accompli***oday (and on the 4-6-6-4 being done!)! [tup] As you said, sometimes the annoying stuff in this hobby just motivates us to take a look at what we really need/want. After looking at some of the structures I have done (currently in boxes), I know I want to go back over them, weather and "scenerize" them with vines, weeds around the base, etc. I also have an older F-unit that I may pass on to someone else (think the original owner kind of botched the paint job he did on it). [#oops] Hopefully, the FSCS (forum-self-censoring-software) won't think I was cussing about the F-unit...[(-D]

See you later (call off the pink bomber wing, okay?)[:D]

Rob, sorry to hear that about the RCMP's. I don't catch the news very often, so I don't know how much it got carried locally. National news yesterday (Friday) evening didn't appear to cover it. What happened? Will keep their families in my prayers, of course. Is the RCMP setup adequate in providing for the family members (emotionally/financially/otherwise)? I know here in the States, it varies from state to state.

Good morning (it is still morning, amazingly, after wading through last night and this morning's posts)! Zoe, I'll have one of Ed's orange-mango smoothies, please!

[#welcome] back, Bob - Good to hear from you again. Sounds good about the turntable.[8D] Of course, we will be awaiting pictures of it. [:-^] We want to see what you've been up to while you were away. Happy wading through all the back posts, though. That's always... fun?[}:)][;)][:D]

Well, I need to go get some breakfast or lunch, and then need to do some re-organizing on the computer so I can fire up that layout program. Will see everyone later today.

Morning / afternoon / evening all.... just popping in to say hello.... today I get to work on those old lBachmann 4-4-0's and see if I can get them running a little better.

One of them is pretty helpless right now because of missing that traction tire.... but I think all of them need the traction tires replaced on them... Other than that they seem to be fine.... even after being in storage/boxed up for over 15 years... I was rather suprised at it all.

Today is the first Race of the Racing season for me (Formula 1) the race is at Albert Park in Melbourn Austrailia and I am hoping my favorite team can do better than they did last year.

Fergie, I’ve been looking at that program I downloaded, and that thing is harder to work than all get out. I don’t plan on using that, but (I’ll explain later), I’ve decided not to use a paper or pencil either. BTW, do we get to see pictures of the MESS’s first official locomotive?

[edit] Tim, I got a chance to look around the Garden railroad side, and man is that guy bad. He just doesn't know when to give up. I give you credit for standing up and not running like (from what I understand) he has been doing. But can I ask, is Rene like the Bergie figure of that side of things? Last I know Bergie was the supreme moderator, but I didn't know there were others either. Does she look in very often? If she does, she must be more tollerating then Bergie, as otherwise I'd think he'd be gone. I'm starting to think it is like the return of Biggie Smalls.[end edit]

Well, I have good news. I decided that, instead of creating myself a gigantic headache by redoing the complete layout, I’d give up a car length on my long passing siding (actually the only one), and put the strait on the other side of the switch. I also worked on the switch that the engine has to enter the siding part as the mainline, and, worse yet, he enters it right after a curve. But, I figured out my problem was the flex track was out of gage, and after getting it spiked in better all is better than I though it would be. So I’m happy.

I even got a chance to run the ARK’s first official Revenue making run, pulling a hopper off of a coal siding and running it back to the “yard.” All is good with the ARK today, except the track needs to be cleaned and I need five feet of road bed (one corner doesn’t have any road bed under it, as I ran out, and nobody around here stocks the kind of road bed I need. I hope to get that tomorrow.)

I also get to go to the monthly NMRA division meet tomorrow, which is why I hope to stop at the hobby shop there. I can’t wait, as David Popp and Cody Grivno, of MR fame, will be presenting the two clinics. I can’t wait (or did I say that......).

Well, Because I’ll be busy most of the day tomorrow, I’ve got to get my Homework done today so I don’t have to worry about it. I better get going, I have a poster on the Executive Branch for Social Studies due Monday morning, and it’s going to take a while to do. Tomorrow’s visit to the shop is tentatively scheduled, I may not make it in, depending on what time I get back from the Meet, and what time the WSOR local comes tomorrow night. I’ll see you all later.

Well, slept for about nine hours last night (first time in months!) It must be that new medication. Anyway, I feel just GREAT today, BP is normal (that's a first!) and I'll spend the day out on the 'viaduct' until it's time for Vespers.
Jim: Raining AGAIN! Sheesh! Ours cleared out yesterday afternoon, hopefully yours will be gone by today, sometime. Usually we folks in Northern California grouse that we have to send all of our water down south to you guys, if it keeps up like it's been, we can ALL send our water to Arizona, right? Seriously, I really feel for you SoCal people this year. Nobody deserves all that damage.
Ed: took you up on your suggestion this morning, had a banana/peach/strawberry smoothie (only fruit I had left in the house) and --WOWSER! THANK YOU!! I've got enough energy running around right now to run every dishwasher in Carmichael!
Rob: Sincere condolences to Canada on the loss of those Mounties--what a GREAT group of guys they are--several were very helpful to me the last time I got lost in Vancouver. A police force that not only Canada but the rest of the world should be proud of!
Steve: Cat-allergies are not that uncommon, my friend. I've got a buddy whose wife raises Abbysinians, he's cat-allergic, makes for interesting times around the cattery. Dr. prescribed some magic little pill, now he's fine. BTW, found an old junker car I didn't give my nephew--now it's my next project (after the viaduct, heh-heh!)
Flip: Actually, I LIKE dogs! But the critters don't seem to like me, except for English Setters. Actually, if I had the running space, I'd have an English Setter as quick as I could find one. Straight-track bridge, huh? Yah, I get the implications (yuk, yuk,) but face it, it's not as psychologically interesting as a train entering a tunnel at full speed, right? (oops, now I'M off and running!)
Fergie: Thank you, sir, for those kind words. Now if we can see some photos of your ex-Clinchfield 4-6-6-4 and perhaps a boxcar containing your wonderful logo, I would be a very happy camper.
Well, time to feed the puddy-tats and wander out into the garage for a morning of cutting, soldering, gluing and cursing. I see Pete hanging out in HIS garage across the street, he told me he wants to see me put that viaduct in. I think I'm really 'infecting' him, we'll see. Might work, his wife likes my MR, too. And we all KNOW how important that is, right?
Later, guys--have a great Saturday.

Evening all

Currently watching Bahn TV and awaiting the call to go pick my parents up from the party they've gone to - thought most of the time it was supposed to be the other way around? Anyway, I'm also going through one of my occasional planning stages - I recently got round to fitting new buffers to a Minitrix N scale electric loco I've had for a while, and am looking again at building a new German layout. If I do go ahead, it'll be a main-line station assumed to be just a few miles outside a large city, as this will allow me to use both the push-pull formations and the express stock I have. I have yet to measure the overall length of a loco and five cars (staging tracks will need to be that long) though this is the obvious next stage - do I need two 4x2 boards or three? It will probably also involve DCC, as most of the locos I have are fitted with can motors and should be simple to convert, also I can use the control gear from my HO layout.

I heard about the RCMP officers this morning - real shock. It's shocking when any law enforcement personnel are killed on the job, but you never expect to hear of it in certain places - Canada being one of those. We had an incident fairly recently where a British policeman was shot on the job, they caught the killer and were able to use evidence gained from the patrol car (the onboard sound recorder was running and caught the whole thing), so the killer won't be out for a long time, but again, it's not something you expect to happen over here. My sympathies to their families and colleagues, let's hope they manage to catch those responsible.

Flip, the censorbot must have got a bit confused there - either that or it broke! Could be it's not always switched on.

Bye for now

Update: Bahn TV are now showing some form of passenger railtour in Mexico - they have a single GP unit hauling streamline passenger cars (including a dome car), a bit different to their usual German expresses!
