Der5997 --- bees in "Z" = fleas

ATTENTION EVERYONE !!!

there seems to be some confusion about when my Birthday is... not for 3 more months.
here's the clarity: I previously indicated that I was born "in a leap year" ('64 for those that are counting), but there are 366 days in a leap year - at least on Canadian calendars... so pick ANY day, hint - end of May and you're close [:-^][(-D][(-D][(-D][(-D][(-D][(-D][(-D][bday] to everyone else...
hate to be the rumour killer, but, I gotta go ... egmurpghy is running my way.........

cheers,

cheers, krump

Good afternoon guys!!! Just got in from shoveling and snow blowing since 8am!! The snow banks are over the height of the Ford Explorer now. The poor snowblower can just about throw the snow to the top of drifts because of the height and the "wetness" of the snow (heavy). The good news.....today is the beginning of Meteorological Spring. You would never know it in New England.

TomW: I was looking at the Weather Channel at lunch, and I noticed that you were geting snow in Georgia, !!![wow] That is a little late in the season that far south!!

Krump: Happy Birthday young man ...[bday][bday] Hope you got a 2-6-6-2 for a BD gift.

Ed: Fenway park is BURIED in snow....with opening day just a few weeks away, the northern jet had better go north real soon. As Tonto would say, Ayeeeee Kimo Sabi!!
BTW Ed, I have 3 or 4 flat panel luan doors that are sitting up in the garage 2nd floor doing NOTHING. Wouldn't they make a nice addition to the Copper Canyon Rail Line in Mexico ? N Gauge? Aren't you due for visit up here to CT to see the family soon? I am only an hours drive north of Hartford you know.

Tim: Thanks for the concern on nor'easter, it was a wild night, but luckily the storm moved a little further off the coast, so we only received 8 inches instead of the 14 predicted. How is the new job going Tim?

Tom ( Cal.) Yes, you are so right Tom re. Nor'easters, they often are called "winter hurricanes" by the weather bureau, when the winds hit 74 mph as they often can. The entire east coast of the U.S. from Cape Hatteras, NC to Nova Scotia is riddled with ship wrecks over the years due to nor'easters. Another part of the country that gets real bad storms off the water in winter is the Great Lakes states. Those storms are equally vicious out there on the Lake Superior and Michigan.

Time to get back to Train Room construction, hopefully the suspended ceiling will get completed this afternoon, and then the walls can get painted with sky and backdrop scene. I will need a few tips from Michaelangelo.....I don't plan to paint the ceiling though...[(-D][(-D]

See you later guys..

Oooops! [:I] Yeah, it was me that started that bad rumor. Sorry. Consider it like birthday greetings in advance if we forget you in three months. [:D] Nice to see you back here, whatever the motive.

Lunchtime, thought I'd check in. Got about 9 feet of track laid on the reverse loop without any MAJOR profanity--have choir practice tonight at the Parish, so I'll work a little after I get back. Funny thing, my ribbonrail and my roadbed don't seem to agree fully (as usual) so it's pick up roadbed (thank God for slow-drying Elmer's) use ribbonrailer, spike both down--hook up power, run largest non-articulated to test (my 2-10-4), then continue the steps all over again--man, I tell ya, I wouldn't have made it a whole day on one of Charlie Crocker's surveying parties, LOL! Would you believe that my father was an construction engineer? Talk about THOSE genes missing me by a mile!
***--the way the snow seems to be piling up back there made me think you were on Donner Pass for a moment. Sure hope it lets up.
TomW--same for you. Snow in Georgia--kind of boggles the mind. What would Rhett and Scarlett have to say about that? Seriously, I hope your weather improves.
We had rain predicted for the past two days, so naturally everyone's in shirtsleeves out here in Sactomato, getting ready to put on sunblock.
Lil'rob: Beekeeping? Hey, at least your father and uncle had pets that produced something (honey) except lumps in the kitty litter box.
Krump: Happy birthday, anyway. I'll probably be in the loony bin by May, if I don't get this (delete profanity) return-loop finished.
Time for a granola bar. Take care, all.
Tom

Thanks!

i actually did find a place to put an offer on. No basement unfortunately, but it figures to be a busy three years and then move again, so perhaps just as well. I might have room for a module or switching layout or something like that, time will tell... [8D]

Yep, that's exactly what I meant by guest lecturing [:D] I too hope to be a bit more "regular" (well, on the boards at least [:p]) after I move! I'll be going broadband so that should help out...

afternoon everyone.

Zoe - I'll take a Rum and Coke and a cheese burger with some fries.

Well I just got finished doing the brakes on my dad's truck.... Loads of fun... Nothing like doing brakes on an 80's F250 Super Duty Utility Truck. Now I am beat.... back hurts knees hurt... ugh....

Now I need to start Looking at stuff for my layout because I have made some money doing that Calender work for my mom... $60... not alot but enough to get me started.... Now I need to convince my mom to buy the lumber for me so I can spend the money on track or a Cheap Bachmann DCC set that way I could put that reverse loop in without having any problems.

Well I'm off for now.... need to relax and laydown some to help my back out some.

See you all later.

Howdy Duke, Steve, see your in the shop. How things going!

Well, I'm in quick again today, got home from school late. I don't have as much homework though, so It evens out. Give me a nice glass of Ed's Fresh squeezed OJ, and I think I'll go run the Shops layout with a few of my engines before I head home. Here it actually works without derailments 99% of the time......

I guess I'll get going, homework and the trains call. See ya later!

Good evening gents.......I have a sad story to tell tonight. I was working down in my Train Room when my wife came downstairs in a panic. By neighbor's father (75) was on the ground, and 911 had been called. We have a scanner in the house, so she heard the Ecall. I dropped everything and flew out the door. When I arrived, the poor guy was lying on the ground, the snowblower had been shut off, so I guess he felt ill before he collapsed. Another neighbor and I tried to bring him back via chest compressions and MTM, but he must have been on the ground at least 1/2 hour before anyone knew what happened. The rushed him to the hospital, but he was gone already here.
For years at work At DEC and Intel, I received 1st aid training, but never had to use it, and never thought I would......but today I learned once again....you never know when you will need your training.
The snow was heavy and he just tried to do too much for his daughter who lives next door to us. May God take his soul this day to Heaven.

On the lighter side, I managed to get the suspended ceiling finished in the Train Room, so tomorrow I I start the background painting on the walls.

Brian: I see that you too like Rum and coke!!!! Allright!!!!!! I usually have one at night while watching TV. I prefer Captain Morgan Spiced Rum, how about you ?

We are on our way to a record year with snowfall here, normal is 72" for Central Mass, but we have had 94" thus far with the entire month of March to go. And we have had snow as late as May 10th (1976) when over 8" fell. So you never know around New England!! We will never hit Donner Pass records though, the most that we have ever got here was back in 1996 when we received 122" , a little over 10 feet for the winter.

Time to check out the forum, see you all later,

***-That is some sad news.It has been said that even with a SB it is still hard work, and I believe it because with what we got today and my little one I felt it more than I used to.So let it be said that those of us that are getting up in years need to watch things more closely, hate to say it.

Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,

Another lazy day down here. Mics errands, weekly grocery shopping, walk dogs, shoot pool with F-I-L, nap. Weather got warm, but still mostly overcast so it’s still bearable.

Hang in there, northeast contingent, Spring’s probably just around the corner. Of course, meanwhile it would be best to be careful driving and clearing snow around the house. I’m sorry to hear about ***’s neighbor, and would hate even more to hear about something like that happening to one of you.

Well I feel stupid making that mistake about Krump’s birthday. [D)] On the other hand it seemed to motivate him to post again so maybe it wasn’t all bad.

Tim, I knew your birthday was in March, but didn’t have the day figured out. Thanks for tipping us off.

Is it just me or does it seem to others that most of the new visitors that drop in here never come back? In this last bunch, Attaboy, Grubby and Capt_Turk seem to be still putting up with our foolishness, but most of the others I haven’t seen again.

Thanks for clearing up the Oakway thing for me, I had no idea. I’m pretty ignorant of modern day power sharing or leasing agreements and all that other stuff that winds up with diseasels from some place out west running on tracks out east. I’m the kind of guy that wants all the engines on my railroad to have my railroad’s name on them. Of course right now none of mine do. [(-D] I haven’t progressed to repainting locos yet. But the idea is there.

QUOTE: (CG)Jim: Hey now, Ed, I will have you know that some of us here happen to prefer birds that stick around for the winter, instead of some (smelly?) articles of clothing. We're just partial to the 'home' team (in our state, or in our original hometown area).
Yeah, I know, and you guys have been good about letting me enjoy this moment in the sun for the Red Sox. Just trying to milk the last bit of good out of it.

Capt_Turk, is your tugboat work mostly in the Intercoastal Canal, or up the St Johns River and in the port of Jacksonville?

QUOTE: (western)Tom: Spooky and Lowell just whacked me on the ankles, it's Chicken of the Sea time around here.

QUOTE: grayfox: Ed, I have 3 or 4 flat panel luan doors that are sitting up in the garage 2nd floor doing NOTHING. Wouldn't they make a nice addition to the Copper Canyon Rail Line in Mexico ?
Yeah they would, if only I had the space to utilize them! I actually have one spare door with me, waiting for the day when I can find a way to use it for staging or something.

QUOTE: Kolja: No basement unfortunately, but it figures to be a busy three years and then move again, so perhaps just as well. I might have room for a module or switching layout or something like that, time will tell...
Hey, even armchair model railroading counts. Just as long as you don’t totally give up the hobby. Yup, broadband will certainly help.

QUOTE: Brian: …I have made some money …... not a lot but enough to get me started....
Time honored tradition in model railroading, buying and building a little at a time as funds allow. Did you know that 50+ years ago you could buy locomotive kits by section? For your first few bucks you got the frame and wheels, next installment was motor and gears, then boiler/cab, etc. You bought one section, worked on it until you had some more money saved up, then bought the next section and worked on that.

QUOTE: Steve: …i have inserted [img / [/img] into the link for a pic as you said but all i am getting is this little red cross…
Ah yes, the dreaded red x. First thing that comes to mind is that you’re trying to post a .htm file. That may be the problem. Most of the stuff I’ve seen posted has been either jpg, gif or bmp. The other idea is that the file could be too big. I’m not sure if they have a limit on size.

That’s about it from here. Hope you all have a good evening.

Regards

Ed

Goodevening everyone: What a wind today. It blew a container from the stacks into Halifax harbour[:O] The storm surge this morning filled the lagoon at the bottom of our yard 3 hours before high tide. The wind had dropped considerably by high tide, and it looked like low tide by comparrison[:D] We lost some shingles from Kris' mother's bedroom roof, but nothing that can't be fixed fairly easily by the look of it. Apart from that, it wasn't a snow storm really here. We did get some, and it was covered by a layer of brown/grey dust. Now figure this, we are right by the ocean, and the wind was off the sea. So where did the dust come from?

***: Sorry to hear about your neighbour. If you see the daughter, or his wife, let them know there are folks all over thinking about them.
Congratulations on the cieling, BTW[tup]

Steve:

Are you trying to bring the pics in from railimages, or from freewebs? If it's freewebs, they don't support downloads from their albums[V]

Duke:
QUOTE: Matt’s pictures did come out much better[tup]

Yes, nothing like the touch of the master's hand[:D] Now we can see what they are really like...Thanks Matt.

Brian:
QUOTE: that way I could put that reverse loop in without having any problems.
You'll still have to isolate the track in the reverse loop with insulating joiners in both rails at each end of the loop. Then a stationary decoder will handle the polarity change for you, or so I am led to believe. The same would be true of the turntable, if it doesn't have automatic polarity switching like the Atlas turntables do. You might even get away with the same stationary decoder as it could be an operating rule that no use of the turntable is allowed while traffic is in the reverse loop. My[2c] again[(-D]

Ed: While looking through a box of N frieght cars today, I found an Arnold 40' box painted for the NdeM. You may have it already, #62204. Unfortunately (and one reason why it was in the box, not on the layout) it has Rapido couplers and plastic wheels. That said, if it's of any interest to you, I've no use for it.

Chloe, a hot chocolate please before I leave.

I see it's getting towards that time again, so I'll say Goodnight, and God Bless.

Good evening clubbers.Well our storm finally broke afyter two days of sitting on top of us,no where near what *** got but the 8"[V][xx(] of heavey was enough for me.Like alot of other people I don't have space to pile anymore so hopefully we get a bit of a melting trend. The grand river is at it's flood height and still frozen over so the river road is closed until further notice, the city hasen't even bothered plowing it[:0]*** I'm sorry to hear about your neighbour I too have never needed to use my training but it's good to know that you at least tried. They do say that only half the people end up comming through tthe ordeal that took your neighbour so I aplaud you for at least trying.Well I'm going to go prowl the forum talk to everyone later. ***--my condolences on your neigbor. Unfortunately, things like this happen and remind us of how temporarily we can be here, sometimes.
Ed--"Dogs have owners, cats have staff." Reminds me of my favorite: "Dogs come when you call, cats take a number and get back to you." But yes, you pretty much summed up the little furballs, didn't you?
Just got back from choir practice--my they're sounding good. Especially nice, since let's face it, Lenten music isn't exactly the most upbeat in the world, right? Second Scrutiny this weekend, Liturgist has decided to speed it up a little--ah, bless her heart, I thought we were going to be there all YEAR, last weekend, LOL!
Well, our bright sunny day turned out to be a rainstorm, but got some track laid (and re-laid, but I'm probably not telling you guys anything new, am I?) Tomorrow is supposed to be sunny (I'll wait for that) so maybe I can finish up the track and get the wiring solidified and run a train or two. If we have a dry spell, maybe even do a little scenicking. Got to plant Aggro's trees sometime--! Just took a count, and with the new addition, I'll have 11 bridges. Don't most guys have tunnels? Never could figure out my bridge fixation--oh well, one of them's going to be a curved Microscale viaduct--have had the thing finished for two months now, guess it's time to install it, right? Please, PLEASE, someone, tell me that it WILL support an Akane Yellowstone--PLEASE!
Well, it's Chicken of the Sea time again (they're good Catholic cats--HATE change!). have a great night, all, see you in the AM

not much done today on any kind of layout work because of my lack of sleep last night. I will probably work on some more stuff tomorrow.

Der - got the email and sent a reply.... hope you got it.

Well everyone it's off to watch some of Tom Whites Favorite show (and yes Mariska Hagarty is hot).

Evening all-
bjdukert- I also have tried to get time off work like you, but the word "bum" keeps coming up. To some, an insult, to me, a dream. Oh wellllll.Hang in there, maybe one of us will hit it one day, and the rest can live vicariously through him.
Tom- Glad that snow waited til we left. It would have wounded my heart to be snowed on in Ga. But of course, by the time we got to Dayton, the sleet was hitting the Jeep top like BBs, we hit the In-Oh state line at 1149PM, I was cussing and screaming about this state by 1159PM! Gas too high, air tooo cold, snow tooooo much ARRRRRGH! Amyjo kept telling me to calm down, just get over it, by Sunday she was poking her finger in my face, asking me why in the world we were not in Savannah! Today, went to a doctor I saw some time back (he is taking a much more agressive stance on the diabetes than my new doctor) and we drove through 30 MPH winds and a very hard snow. Ahhh, springtime in Hoosierland. Can't get no better!
Ed- I've noticed that new folk come and go. Seems like only a few stay around here. I've also noticed that most people don't read all of the posts. My info to you about the Oakway units was repeated by others, and I know that I scan posts looking for stuff I want to respond to, but sometimes I miss some important comments. I guess some of us, me included, need to slow down and read the entire post. You get so much more out of it,and it dosn't take much more time. Pretty much all of us have interesting stuff to relate, and we can all learn something from each post. Just a thought.
As for cats, I saw a sign that summed it up pretty well- My dog thinks he's human- my cat knows he's God. They sure are impressive critters.
My chief came up tonight, showed me some pics he took of a new BNSF GE unit and an unpainted NS GE switching our glass factory. Great pics, if I can figure out how to, I'll show them around, as they are the only digital pics I have. I'll see what I can do.
OK, ladies and gents, take care, and start shipping that warm weather out east, ok?

Good morning clubbers,

Phil rotflmao to your dog cat line. Awesome.

*** prayers for your neighbor, and for you. As the song goes, Thats why we praise HIM... also congrats on finishing part of layout, but way too much snow, just WOW

Ed, pass the OJ, daughter has sore throat that won't go away. Nothing serious says Doc, but won't go away.

Ryan, how have you been, anymore good food.

To all, job is great, I am doing mortgages at 1.25%. Here in CA that is very low, so many yesses. Lots of train stuff in the future if this keeps up.

Take care all

egmurphy,
My tug is an offshore boat. We work from Maine to the Gulf of Mexico, and the Caribe. Very little work inside, as we draw 9'. The tug is too big for much inside work. Most of our work is dredge related. We move the dredge from site to site, and their equipment. I've towed strings of pipe up to 2600' long, and just completed a combined tow of 4,500' from the Cheasapeke to Tampa. That one was fun! lol

Just an addition to my last post.
I'm in the process of installing R/C in my G scale 2-4-0. I'm using a Super Rooster ESC. made for model cars. The paper work says that it is rated for a maximum of 12 volts. I'm wondering if anyone knows what the actual max volts is? It works alright at 12, but not very fast.
Those LGB locos are something else with all that circuit board stuff in them. Took awhile to figure out what they were doing there.

Good Mornin' Everybody,
It's a beautiful, cold morning in the mountains. It snowed off and on all day yesterday. We didn't get any real accumulation, just very pretty coming down.

***, I'm very sorry to hear about your neighbor. Please let them know that we're thinking about them and praying for them, and you. Life is very fragile and uncertain, and also very precious.

We've actually had snow up into early April on a fairly regular basis. The latest big snow I've seen was in mid March 1993. I was coming up from New Port Richey to close on the house. I left down there Sat. morning, the 15th. By the time I got to Macon, Ga. there was 6 " on the ground and the interstates through Atlanta were closed. Got stuck in Macon for 2 nights and then got through to just north of Atlanta. I finally made it up here on Tuesday morning and had a couple of feet still on the ground at the house. My banker didn't make it in to work until Wednesday so it wasn't a problem. I've been known to tell people that it was a test to see how much I wanted to be up here. I passed the test.

Phil, another version of that ( about cats) is that the ancient egyptians worshiped cats as gods. Cats have never forgotten that.

I'm going to go for now. I need to double check the Ga. return this morning and then that's finished and I'm off to the railroad room.

Have a great day, everybody,
Tom

Goodmorning to one and all. Bright and sunny now, and mild. The wet snow from last night (surprise!) is melting. Just so long as it goes before the snow plow gets here, there will be minimum work involved[^]

I'd noticed that too. We are an aquired taste, it seems[(-D]

Better get going. My email is misbehaving, so Brian, I can't reply directly. I would say, if you can get the Bachmann system for that price, Go For It![yeah]

Good morning all,

Thought I'd take that seat back in the corner - back against the wall - and listen to what's being said. I have lots of "history" to browse through in order to check out what's been going on ........ and to find out if there is room for another.

As I mentioned on another forum - I'm siberianmo and it's a no brainer to figure out where that handle came from. Hint: my dog's relatives came from a place called ........
and Iive in the "Show Me State." BIngo - you win the prize!

Okay - I'll just stick around for a bit and soak up the great train talk. Never too old to learn anything and I promise that I won't snore when I nod off .........

Happy Railroading! Siberianmo

[#welcome] Welcome to The Coffee Shop, Tom. Good luck perusing the history, but hanging around for a few pages should give you an idea of the flow. Always room for one more. Especially another retiree. And it's okay, even if you do model in Horribly Oversized! [:D]

Only some train talk, we're a pretty off-topic bunch. No problem with snoring either, I do it all the time when I nap. [zzz]

John, yes, I would be interested in that NdeM boxcar, thank you very much. No problem with the couplers as I'm in the process of replacing Rapidos on my other cars with new Atlas trucks with Accumate couplers. Just one more to convert. I'll email you.

Later,

Ed
