Evening all...

Didn't get much done today.... just lounging around (as usual for me).... My brothers computer took a dump about 3 weeks ago or so and he bought a new power supply for it.... so while he was at work today I replaced the Power Supply. (good thing I know how to work on computers).

This made me a little money so I can start looking into prices of lumber and stuff for my coffee table that I will be building. Now I need to come up with some plans for the table.... I pretty much have it pictured in my head but I think I am going to need to put it on paper seeing as I am going to be having another one of my brothers helping me with it. He is quite handy as well but very dyslexic (sp?). I'm not going to be adding in the trim pieces or anything on the plans.... that will be done later.

Well I'm off to go watch some TV for a while. Talk to you all later.

Welcome to my world. 24 kbps on dial up. I’ve got the satellite for incoming, but they are discontinuing that at the end of June[V] I’m doing this now on the dial up as I don’t want to eat up too much satellite time. (and yes, I do disconnect for writing the thing, and reconnect to change pages. A monumental bore.) [banghead]

This isn’t about the recent flaming thing. If you have Bernie’s ear, could you suggest that the forum pages show who is in the topic “room” at the top of the page as well as at the bottom. I think that would be helpful as one would not have to scroll down to the bottom just to see who might be in the Coffee Shop before one starts to read. It can’t be that difficult to arrange, and would help people like me, and I believe you, who are on slow modem dial up and for whom getting the page in takes a while.

Our bald eagles are seen circling from time to time all winter, but the ospreys seem to go south for the duration. It’s the ospreys that nest closer to us, but still not as close as that![:8] Enquiring minds will want to know if you have a layout, and what scale, BTW.

That’s about it for tonight. It’s taken all evening, what with TV, and having to wait until Enterprise came on A channel in Manitoba before we could watch it. Our local station ran a repeat of a last season episode instead of the conclusion of the current 3 parter![V] Still all’s safely wrapped up now, and the Klingons of the first series are suitably explained[^]

Hi Gang; I’m trying that trick about pasting the quotes to word.

Tim- Paul, how is the wife’s tractor?
Mary Ann’s tractor is doing OK. I need to replace the gasket between the exhaust manifold and the stack, but that is all.

Tom; I got the truck back today. They had to replace the radiator. Cost $421 for a new one installed. The good news was that they didn’t charge me for the loaner. I think that we’re going to buy one of there rental F-250s when it comes up for sale soon. It’s a 2005 equipped for pulling a goose neck as well as a bumper pull trailer.

Grubby- Hi guys, I am just starting out building my first "adult" layout...after a break of nearly 30 years. I have been enjoying sitting back and reading the forums for a little while but decided it was time to be more than a passenger.... I am sure I can find most of the info I need by searching but I may just ask the odd stupid question or two just to save a little time :D. Getting into it as my son is nearly 6 and hanging to play with the trains........and I am hanging to do something as well. A few trips to the local hobby shop have unearthed an absolute gem of a shop owner which seems in stark contrast to most of what I am reading... anyways GL HF.im

What was “The Flea”? I seem to recall ads showing a single pair of wheels powered by “The Flea”. Two of those could (potentially) be set at any desired distance behind a set of side frames to give you what you want.[tup][tdn][?]

trolleyboy, I know ehattons.com will ship overseas, orders within the UK usually take about 4-5 days to arrive though I'd guess it'd be about the same amount of time to get to you - our postal service is seriously odd, have had sizable parcels the next day but smaller packets have taken a week. Looks as though Tramalan (the other address) operate by mail order but seem to just have a postal address rather than proper "e-shopping" - they do have an email address though so contacting them to check shipping, etc. should be easy enough. They've been around for a while which must be a good sign!

Re my echo test- you know the plastic piece that keeps the coupler tight on the first McHenrys, well the little valve where the blood enters the chamber looks just like it. I was watching the action and Darn,that looks like the plastic spring on the early couplers came into my mind.

Trolley Rob- I found the Mt.Dora trolley-took pictures. It is powered by a 454 engine and uses an Allison tranny.

Glad I missed all the to-do re-Al. Good modeler, bad attitude. Guess he qualifies as a FLAH.

Ryan- I drive a van for the county trnsporting those that qualify, to drs,hospitals,work court,shopping and where ever they need to go. From moms with babies to a 97 year old navy vet.

Please have one of Ed's big glasses of OJ from his Orange grove in in olde Mexico on the Gulf Coast. [[:)]

Der John, Luc, Fergie, and Fundy Northern.....it sure looks like we are going to get walloped again!!! This storm track for the storm coming out of the Gulf of Mexico is going to pass off the tip of Cape Cod I believe, and it has "copious" amounts of water content within it. We could easily get 2 to 3 FEET here in Central Massachusetts and most of New England. I don't know where I am going to place the snow. I have the director blade on the snowblower at maximum uptilt now to get the snow up over the drifts and banks of snow. So get ready up there in Nova Scotia along the Cabot Trail!!!

Dan: you sound like you have roots in the south, maybe Texas ???? Good to have you here in the Coffee Shop, and yes, you are correct, this bunch of guys in here are nothing short of terrific, I wish we were all neighbors. [:)]

Thanks for all the welcome back notes guys, I really missed the forum for the past week. I will say one thing, I can really feel for you guys who have to live with dial-up modems and 28kb enet service. I had that for 12 years before Cable came to my area with hispeed enet service. I have 3mb enet service now, and it is blazing fast.
I sure hope that all you guys on dial-up either get DSL or Cable to your areas soon, you will think you died and went to heaven. ][:D][:D][^]

I am trying to get back to construction of train room, but I have to add a USB hub to Lorraine's computer, which will allow her to place the Printer and Scanner where she wants it in her room. The doggone big fat serial cable for Printers costs $40 for a 10 footer, so I decided to go USB, much cheaper and faster anyways seeing her Scanner and Printer have USB ports. So I may get back to the train room by lunchtime. [^][^]
