Good evening shop dwellers, Chloe since Paul is buying I'll have your TexMex special of the day with a tall OJ...

RT - condolences on your Mom, I'll add her to my prayer list[angel]

John - those are cute Q-tip thingies in the photo, think I might invest in a few of those myself - got a supplier name and catalog item number for them?

Paul - 9 ore loads, only how many hundred to go?

Flip That's really scary about the fires, hope your place doesn't get damaged by any of them.

PC - I always enjoy viewing your museum pix

Well this was quite a productive weekend for me, considering I also had the assist in preparing my home for guests for Stephanie's First Communion reception.

On Friday evening, I spread on some WS Water Effects paste on the rear area of Bethel Creek - here's what it looked like at first:

In case you're wondering, the current in Bethel Creek flows from front-to-back, not the other way around as most modelers do it. The tree sort of acts like a 'dam' causing the water to appear placid near the front, and more turbulent in back where the water gushes thru. Here's what it looked like when dried:

An overhead view, so you can see the supposed effect of the fallen tree on the flow of the water:

On Saturday and today, I built a modern facade for the LifeLike KFC eatery so it would match the era I'm modeling. Here's the 'before' picture:

...and the "after" picture:

Another view from behind:

. . .
Well guys I have to go now, Stephanie wants me to tuck her in - good nite!

Good Sunday evening folks: Chloë, I’ll have a medium JR Regular please, and the top half of that Oatmeal and Rasin muffin, heated with butter. Thanks,Ken! I started this before lunch, but couldn’t get it posted then, and the afternoon has been spent in scenery work on my interchange section. I have to get the ballast done on the far reaches of that part before I do the foreground. That means doing something about the surrounding scenery as well, for the same reason. I don’t want to be leaning (or climbing) over the foreground scenery to get at the back. So it’s been a matter of deciding on how things will be (I’ve been thinking about this for some time, so it’s putting it into practice, really) and bighting the bullet. Here’s what’s drying out now (the sawdust/glue mix that is.)

The black is AMI roadbed as a road, and the cream is sawdust/glue mix. The road carries on from the AMI to the sawdust, and of course all will be painted. There will be an orchard past the church.
The red brown ballast is the “other” mainline. I’ll wet it down and glue it once the hill and road of sawdust has dried to where it won’t float away if it gets soaked again.[:D] That’s why the paper is on the wall, to stop the wall getting too wet when I mist on water for soaking the ballast down.

Here’s looking at the new road past the station. It links up with a bit I built some time ago that also goes out of sight over a hill. That’s my favourite way to handle a road at the backdrop.

Here's looking from the other side of the station.

NJBill:
QUOTE: As for being centered.....well....this assumes I can tell that with something so small.
…What I do is hold the pin vise so the drill is silhouetted against a background so I can see the rotation when I twirl the vise. Any off centred bit will show a wobble at the tip. I also wrap the non-business end of the drill in masking tape if the drill is too tiny to really be gripped by the vise chuck. (there’s only one I have to do that with in my present roster, many of the smaller ones having gone the way of all flesh, with or with out soap.[:(])

Fergie:
QUOTE: Those must be pictures of the meet at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic,
…You are correct, O Wise One.[:D] You probably know some of the folks in the photos. Some I recognized from other shows, but I haven’t a clue as to names. Apart from George and some of the other vendors, I didn’t see anyone else I knew.

Flip:
QUOTE: 10 and 12 year old boys and a 14 year old girl
…Ouch! That almost exactly fits our grandkids by the end of June.[:O] Let’s hope they don’t get an urge to set fires. There’s a wooded lot backs onto their house.
As to Fergie, He posted this on page 2038
QUOTE: The Shipyard started cutting the gun ports in the hull today and if I get a chance I'll post some pics tomorrow.
then on page 2039

QUOTE: What you are looking at is about midships located about 2 metres above the keel and 6 metres below the waterline. The "Fox" has three sets of Air Nozzles that pump air into the water when cutting through the ice. The air acts as a lubricant making it easier for the ship to keep moving. It is very effective and not knowing the actual numbers but would guesstimate it increases our efficiency by 20-25% when in heavy ice.
on page 2040, as well as
followed by
(first time I’ve seen that one as it’s always taken too long to come in before!)…and this from 2043,
QUOTE: Der John : You were asking about the Bubbler system the other day and what I was told was this is a low pressure system but high volume as we want the air in the water alongside the hull. The system is driven by two large pumps which are driven by two 500 HP motors.
…but you are caught up with that, I think.

Dave:
QUOTE: what do you think about their new 50ton coal hopper at $44.00 dollars, is it just me or is this nuts? I try to stay out of this type of thing (prices) when it comes up, but this just blew me away. I have to keep telling myself to each his own! I
My thoughts precisely when I see O Gauge steam! I can’t imagine paying $x many thousands for a loco. But I agree, $44 for a hopper is stiff.[V] that is in Horibly Overpriced isn’t it?[:D]

I think I’m going to try re-stringing the lines on the big hook with a single strand of fine wire from electrical cord. I can darken it first with “Blacken it”, and it should look more like hawser than cotton does.
Here’s the thing “as is”

Mike:
QUOTE: DER , what kind of brush’s are those and where do you get them.
…They are a little fuzzball on a plastic holder. I don’t know the name, and I’ve not got the package anymore. I think I got them at a LHS in Edmonton, AB. Print off the photo and take it to your LHS, they may know them.[:D]

Chuck and Kathy:
QUOTE: Started to put those little NBW on the bridge timbers and have found out how small they really are ] HO ] lots of them to put on .....On both sides of timbers
…Aren’t you glad you don’t have to actually have to thread them on, like we do in N![swg] Bad luck about the bathroom floor. Must have been leaking for a while. We have a plastic chair for Kris’ mom in her shower. Works well.

KenL:That water is a great success [bow] You are doing us proud, thanks for all these tips. The fast food is going to give our CS a run for its money![(-D]
See my reply to Mike on the paint bru***hingies.

Looks like I can finally get this post to bed, and do likewise. It’s 11:30 p.m. here, and I started this somewhere around 12 hours ago!

Goodnight all, and God Bless. Prayers continuing for all in need of healing, comfort, and peace.[angel]

Hi Gang: Well I actually got some model railroading in today. I made 9 ore load patterns and got them ready for making a mold of the bunch. I also got to the basement and ran a couple of trains around. I'd just like to get some more done on the ore yard one of these days. Ah retirement can't come too soon.

Well It's up early again tomorrow so I will head for the sack.

Good Night All

Good evening everyone, a beautiful Sunday here today, clerar skies, temps in 60's. We attended a first Communion for one of our grandsons today, it is so precious to see these little ones at church doing the readings and so enthralled at what is happening.

DER JOHN those brushes look like they would do very nicely touching up the tracks, I will invest in some the next time I go to my LHS, he has just about everything.

RT I am so sorry to hear about your mother, our prayers are for your family RT.

Phil C Very nice pictures, you can use these to age your cars.

FLIP I suspect that kids lit the fire up here last week also. I would make these kids do community service to pay off the damage, they might think twice the next time, and, they might learn something useful.

CHUCK & KATHY That room ranks only 2nd to the kitchen in importance to a woman, so you had better do an A1 job Chuck !! LOL

PAUL Good lord, the AC running full tilt already? Hopefully we will not have to turn ours ON until July. We just came off the oil bills for heating this winter ( not too bad this year ), we certainly have no desire to see our electric bill go through the roof for cooling the ranch!!!! Maybe we should all fo to Nova Scotia for the Summers, and then head down to Texas or Ed's place in Mexico for the Winter.
See you guys later,
Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! Paul- Read your "E" mail.

Well here I am again. Before any of you accuse me of double posting check the time.

I went down to the park and checked the gator pond. It look ok so I went to the Gold River control room and it was hot in there. The AC unit was running and it was still very hot. I'll have to send an E-mail to the boss and let him know.

Anyway I'll be in later tonight if I can stay awake long enough.

Ops, lunch is over and I have things to do. I guess that I'll go down and check the water level in the alligator pond. I don't want those critters getting out, eating a guest and getting indegestion.

Morning all, coffee Janie,
Home from camping, but still have to put stuff away and get the coolers cleaned up. Had a good time plenty to eat, great game of dominos [guys won], a little cool, for tent sleeping, but had fun. Sunny here, with a high near 70, PC , light N. wind also.

Fergie that sounds like top wages there, BACK THEN. Don’t think it would now though, with inflation figured in.

Ding did ya get your 4-6-2 yesterday.

Flip , we ended up in federal court before a judge in Indy on mine, before I got it. Took 60 days after that for my first check

Jerry , we only buy what’s on sale, since we have enough storage and a freezer. But, even with all that it’s still expensive for eats. Sure be glad when the garden comes on.

RT , sorry to hear bout your mom. We’ll keep her in our prayers

DER , what kind of brush’s are those and where do you get them. Liked the photos too, nice looking layout for N.
I paint my track before I lay it, and the only tunnel I have goes nowhere, so don’t have to worry bout that part.

Flip , heard on the news bout the problem with fires down your qay and with Pauls problems with rain. Sure hope you two get some better weather soon.

PC , really enjoyed the pics this morning. I have got to get over your way, any cheap campgrounds your way.

Well need to get moving some, been an hour or catching up, and just looked out the door ; the camp gear hasn’t put it’s self away yet. Guess I need to help it along. Got some pics to post laters, but I think I’ll take a nap first

Hi Gang: Break is just about over so this is a quick note for a mark. I had to replace an amplifier in Gold River befor we opened. The thing is that I just replaced it a couple of weeks ago. If I didn't know better I'd say someone went down there and put the old one back in.

Off to my shop. See you all later.

Hey plip that 1/2 price for the 2 is the normal price of one lionel car and you should look up the prices on the engines they start at $75.00 for a cheapo and about $150 for a fair engine to $2000.00 and more

swdave- Know what you mean re-prices. The P2k I just bought was in the Walthers cat. at 1/2 price. $64.95 plus local tax as against MSRP $135.
All the details on the models are nice, but DARN, the prices are out of hand[ and pocketbook.] How the heck do beginners get into this hobby looking at the expense?

Seeing Flip talking about K-D, what do you think about their new 50ton coal hopper at $44.00 dollars, is it just me or is this nuts? I try to stay out of this type of thing (prices) when it comes up, but this just blew me away. I have to keep telling myself to each his own! I think i'll start buying now, if I buy one a month in 2yrs. I could have a good sized coal train, NOT.
Noah- Cong. on your pics keep up the good work. Grand crossing is hot, stopped this morning for 35 mins saw 4 trains 2 CP wb'sand 2 wb's BNSF.

Good morning coffee lovers.
I had forgotten I bought the new K-D #148 couplers. By using them I got them installed on the GP38-2. So much easier than the #5's. Correct height-mates with the other brands I have used. Don't have to go to my LHS for help but will go to take pictures of the ore dock .

RT- Sorry to learn about your Mom. Must be very hard to bear. Hang tough. And don't think it is unmanly to cry. Pain is pain. Our prayers are for you as well.
Ken- Thanks. When I awoke today at 5:25, I found Deb up and watching TV. Even with taking her pills she couldn't sleep. She is still up. Been reading and watering the lawn.
Keeps moving the sprinklers around so I'll have plenty to mow next weekend.

Central Fla. is a large RED ZONE. Fire depts. are putting out fires or trying to all over .
Some of their controll burns have gotten out of controll and made a mell of a hess.
3 kids, 10 and 12 year old boys and a 14 year old girl set one big blaze causeing much damage. Parents faceing Big Bills.

Well camera is loaded and working. Couple mugs of coffee have gone down nicely.
What have I missed with Fergie? What pages should I read?
Prayers for all. Please stay well.

Just a quickie!

Ken: Thanks for the Kudos once again but... I'm being beat out by Diesels[:(]

And that hurts.

Der John: Those must be pictures of the meet at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, Double Ouch!! Sorry I missed it as I think it would have been a good show.

Gumby: I have ordered parts from BLI and have found them to be very good to deal with. getting the parts may take a bit of time as they scavenge the parts from other engines that are un repairable or so I was lead to believe when talking to them.

Well that's my 2 minutes of sanity.

I'll try the soap thing when I get a hold of some more bits. As for being centered.....well....this assumes I can tell that with something so small.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm still learning about this hobby so any and all input welcomed.

OBTW, Good Morning all!

Good early morning Coffee Shop people. I’m typing this ahead of coming in, so apologies in advance if I’m missing answers, etc. have been busy yesterday painting more rail prior to ballasting. Today was a train show in Halifax, first time I’ve been to this one. Scored with a “big hook” for $10.00, no tax. (OK, so big hook in N scale is an oxymoron for some, but we’ll let that go[swg])

KenL: ( and *** too)
QUOTE: So I always keep a jar of PollyScale Roof Brown and a finepoint paint brush close at hand.
Here’s what I use for rail touch up. Have you met these guys? If the tip wears out, remove it and you have a useful pointed plastic probe thingy.

Here are some shots of the large N scale layout by the chaps who put on the show. I’ve had to brighten them up too much as the background was way too dark.

and some smaller structures that I am going to adapt for my purposes.

Fergie: Yes, I can see that low pressure would be necessary to keep the hull encased in bubbles. Thanks for the details.

Dave: Groan![^][(-D]

RT: Sorry to hear about your mother. It’s very difficult, and it’s hard not to take it personally. It must be worse for the person it’s happening to. Let your wife know we are praying for her as well. Hope that Sunday turns out better for you both.

Hopefully tomorrow there will be mrr time. I must sort out a gondola to accompany my big hook, and re-do the lifting lines as they are done with red thread. How weird is that?[alien]

Again, the preview isn't working for me, so this will go out unrehersed, as it were.

Goodnight all, and God Bless. Prayers for all in need of healing, comfort, and peace.[angel]

Hi midnite shop dwellers, I'm probably at the top o' the page but that's OK since most everybody is in bed, my Visa card won't take too much of a beating! Bottoms up...

Just a quick check-in: Been a blur of motion today, updating an old LifeLike Kentucky Fried Chicken to a 'KFC' to make it era-compatible with the trains I'll be running. Will post pix tomorrow. Also had to execute a few honey-dues, cleaning up areas of the house in prep for visitors fot Stephanie's First Communion reception tomorrow. BTW the water experiment (WS Water Effects) was a success, I'll post pix of that tomorrow as well!

Flip - Looks like I need to add you and Deb back onto my prayer list, hang in there!

swdave - that's a major improvement over your previous stuff, that one is worth passing on!

Fergie - your entry in the MRF April photo contest is picking up quite a few votes, looks like you're in 2nd place (and you thought it wasn't good enough to submit because some wood was showing?)

DigiGriffin - hang in there, those mill layouts can be real head-bangers. Just make sure you don't put down any permanent scenery till you see that everything fits and runs properly.

**Yawn** No time for further conversation, time to cut a few Z's - good nite![zzz]

cox- I don't know how many F units I'll have. I am getting a Stewart F3 AB set in the CGW maroon dip for my B-day[swg]. All I can say is I'll buy as many as I can once I get my track laid. I'd say at least 10 AB sets. and yes, I'll power the B units. I might try a P1K, too.

Gumby- I know how that feels. My Atlas U33C hit the floor twice in the same day. I'm happy to say I managed to fix it and it runs great now.

I ran an excursion today and everything went as planned. It was pulled by the FP7 because I didn't get the 4-6-2 yet. I'm thinking it'll be here on Monday.

Paul- I have trolleyboy's address and inch's. Rob has offered to post them. I do not have a scanner. By the way, did Teffy ever send you those pictures I sent him last year?
I have to take the GP38-2 back to my lhs. I don't have the hand and finger control to put the couplers on.
Wish when they say-READY TO RUN- Everything is on the model. #^%&$$%#@#@%.

p.s.-checking the camera for film and batteries.

Not a good weekend for MRR.... This morning our BLI Hudson took a nose dive off the table.[:O][:(][*^_^*] The pilot and front coupler are toast. [banghead] I am hoping beyond all hope that I can get the parts from BLI.

Then we got these Walthers cushion coil cars as a gift. Might as well been a scratchbuild with all the work involved. [:(!] Anyway, I needed to use a #80 bit to install parts. So far I have broken 3 bits. At $1.35 a bit, this gift is getting very expensive.[|(]
