You can never have enough locomotives. I purchased a Proto 2000 GP7 yesterday
that I didn't even need. But, It was on sale. [:p] Now I have to buy a decoder. It's a
vicious cycle, but I love it. Dave

[(-D]Yes--this 'old man' is worth it![(-D] Still undecided but I've a few days yet before I spring for one or the other if not both. And...I checked the First Hobby website and discovered they have the T1 in stock. Dave9999 had it right when he said you can never have too many locomotives. Thank God for credit cards![:D]

Well, I was wrong about the local festival going so well, after I left there were 3 fights with 2 injured and 2 jailed.[banghead][banghead]
I bet it started when some FOOL shouted out in a drunken stupor "Union Pacific-Now there's one fine railroad!"
Are some guys getting bent out of shape over that or what? And it looks like it's been that way for quite awhile, it seems if you mention ANYTHING about the UP, good or bad, you've got a fight a-brewin'. [B)][B)]
Got to see my girlfriend for the first time in a month last night[:D] and her pictures of Ixtapa Mexico- sure is a pretty place, but she also mentions how quickly it gets so hot.
I told her she needs to take up iced coffee, but she dos'nt go for joe.[:(]
Take care, folks.

Well Phil when I first read your comments regarding the festival and brawls I didn't know if you were being funny or not. I had a picture of a piano player beating on the keys the tar bender grabbing the gut rot off the bar and the Duke walking in and making the peace.

Then I read it again and back to your previous post, pre festival. What a shame that a bunch of thugs will ruin it for everyone, especially those who organize these things.

Tar and feather them and run them out of town.

I on the other hand ran a pirate training camp for a bunch of Beavers (Scouts) as this was our annual Beaveree. Hopefully this is one group of kids that won't see the wrong side of the bars.

Lupo: My tulips are still holding out, man oh man this is gotta be the coldest spring I've experienced to date.

Super Chief: Happy Belated Birthday and in regards to the T1 or FEF, I've got the FEF and it is one very nice piece of gear, I would have to say it's my best engine in respect to running, speed and power.

If you or anyone else gets the T1 I would be very interested in your appraisals as this maybe my next investment.

Just a little history item from the This Day in History website:

June 7

1775 The United Colonies change their name to the United States.

1955 CBS unveils The $64,000 Question, which would soon become the model for a small army of money-minded quiz shows.

Now what I couldn't do to a layout with $64,000. [}:)] [;)] [:D]

Phil, you said: "...and her pictures of Ixtapa Mexico- sure is a pretty place, but she also mentions how quickly it gets so hot. I told her she needs to take up iced coffee, but she dos'nt go for joe."

Yeah I hear you about the heat. At least it's been overcast with some rain the past week. That's helped knock down the heat to a bearable (with judicious use of the a/c) level for the past few days.

While my wife and her family do drink coffee, they find my habit of iced coffee very amusing. Of course they, like many people down here, aren't accustomed to using a lot of ice in any drink (unless the coke is very warm from the bottle, for example). So the combination of using a lot of ice, and on top of that using it in coffee, gets them snickering and shaking their heads. They're not clear on the concept of iced tea either.

Working on my 'trains needs list' for our trip north of the border next month. My LHS already has some cars and stuff he special ordered and put aside for me based on emails. Just added to the list (no, not at the LHS) some of that waterproofing stuff that Bill M spoke about. (It's worth a try anyway).

Regards

Ed

Thanks for the Birthday wishes Fergmiester (it's coming soon--13th of June) and the comments on your FEF. I've opted to purchase the Northern first, along with a string of passenger cars. Next month I'll spring for the T1. I too would be interested in reading posts from anyone that has acquired the T1. The reviews of it in MR were favorable.

Good morning folks - Almost said 'good morning guys', but I learned the hard way not to assume anything recently when I got an email from someone on the Forum replying to an email I sent to a member who had a masculine name, only to have the reply indicate an (actual) feminine name. Confusing ? So, I replied back to that person with the feminine name, inviting them to have coffee with us " here ", because we could use some help with our cooking, making the coffee (attempt at a chauvenistic joke), and other things to keep us in line. Well the reply came back with a 'confession' that the masculine 'screen name' (that had an actual feminine person's name) actually was, in fact, a guy using his mother's email !

Reminds me of the Crocodile Dundee movie scene when he attempts to pick up a gal in a tavern in NYC, only to discover - the 'hard' way (couldn't resist) - that she wasn't a 'gal' You can never be too sure to whom you speak, especially when on the internet. . .

Noah - thanks for fixing screen width.

Don't know about you, but I am so sick of and bored with all the UP 'this and that stuff ' on the Forum recently. I am not even going to read any topic with any mention of UP in it, unless it references a specific piece of rolling stock, or that it obviously has something to do with 'modeling UP something'.

Ed - hope the waterproofing works out for you. You, Noah, and anyone else w/ an interest in that topic may want to check out DIY channel's web site : www. diynet.com , and the specific thread : www./diy/diy_kits/article/0,2019,DIY_13787_2792095,00.html , for a brief "how to waterproof a basement" discussion w/ links to related stuff. (Beware of the popups !)

My 90 yr old Mom sends her thanks to you guys for the tip regarding making coffee ice cubes so that the iced-coffee doesn't get diluted when regular ice melts. She's been drinking iced-coffee ever since a little girl (she claims they had refrigerators back then)and never thought of that idea - she said "the wonders of the internet", and I teased her that my Dad used to make lemonade ice cubes fifty years ago so that his lemonade wouldn't wimp out as the ice melted, and she said "if you and your internet buddies are so damn smart, why aren't you making iced-tea ice cubes?" (has anyone tried that?)

It's drizzling and muggy in nw Georgia this AM, and it is real lazy, magazine reading type weather, but I need to get something done today on the house-remodeling, or on the construction of my shop down in the basement, or 'the boss' will surely make me go get a day-job. I could always go inventory all my HO and G scale for the upandcoming swap meet in the Atlanta area later this summer. Getting out of G scale mostly, and parting with a lot of my 'blue boxes' and Western prototype HO now that I have switched to L&N and Southern for my new layout. A good time to upgrade across the board, except for some favorite pieces not avail. in newer products yet. It's like parting w/ old friends that you no longer have much in common with. . .

Discovered something interesting last nite. I was doing a scan of cookie type attachments on my PC using SpyBot S&D and deleting some parasitic files including a constantly recurring one called Commission Junction (www.cj.com) , and when attempting to find out what site I've been frequenting that keeps reintroducing it to my PC, I searched thru their "books and media" client base and guess what came up? Kalmbach Publishing. What may be of further interest is what I discovered when I was checking out Kalmbach's "Scale Auto" Forum site last nite to revisit a recent topic string I had started there re: adware, spyware, spam, etc., as well as another thread (in the same topic area) that had a lot of what appeared to be very useful tools to combat those annoying pain in the tail wastes of time, and 'that topic' had silently been yanked out, without a trace of it in the archives. Why? There is another very annoying 'hijacker? program -someone else's suggested description, for I don't know yet what it is - that still attaches to my PC whenever I access either this Forum or Scale Auto's - and it is identifiable by either a 'blue' flame (MR), or a 'red' flame (SA), right on the curser just as soon as you open up either of their home pages, or now, even when I open up the MSN home page. Wierd, haven't been able to eliminate it yet, and it does all kinds of nasties to your posts when editing them, for it is a targetword type attachment that has forced me to avoid using certain "key" identifier words, and to use synomyns instead. When I figure out more I'll let you know.

Gotta go. Coffee's cold and ugly. Need some more fresh stuff.

Deannbrunnet, I just wanted to say welcome to the coffe shop, and come back anytime you want to get a laugh or two. Unfortunately I can't help you with the question, so I'll let another one of our distinguished forum members answer that.

I've been thinking, with all the new people comming in to the shop, I hope they're comming as cutomers, not just to look at us.................[:D]

Wooohoo! There ya go Chief, a fine model to add to your collection! FEF-3, I've got one, best steamer ever (atleast by Rivarossi). I'll bet you're getting the Two-tone gray paint scheme, are you not? Excellent choice! So, if you're getting the FEF-3 now, when do you plan on getting the T1?

SuperChiefFan: Cool you will get the FEF so you are going for a [censored] ?,
Beware if you do not want the greyhound scheme, the other two schemes were mixed up in advertising, creating a lot of confusion here on the forum and with suppliers, I checked the walthers website and they corrected it at last ( Jonathon and I both sent them mails past pointing that out months ago) but there could be others who did not.
But there is good news: there is a very large list of spareparts for these locomotives on the watlhers site, so part of the Rivarossi bankrupcy problem about how to get spares is solved I think!
you'll have a great locomotive with that 4-8-4 !
enjoy!

Ferg- The biggest joke about the fights was that I wasn't there! 25 years ago I would have been upset over missing them, but these days, I leave that kind of stuff to the rookies. They still RUN to a fight, it actually is fun to watch. I don't think I was ever that young. As for the Duke giving back-up, man what I would'nt give to see him and Clint come in and clean house!
Ed- My girl said that the resort she stayed at only had AC in the rooms and none in the public areas, and they were controlled by a motion sensor type deal that only let the AC run when someone was in the room. I asked her what happened when she was asleep, and she, of course, said "How would I know, I was asleep!" Valid point.[banghead] One of these days Alice!!Right to the mooooon!!
lupo-Thank your lucky stars for the Atlantic, after the UP armageddon that is looming on the horizon you might be the only one left to carry the banner. People are out of control on that worn out subject.
It does look like we picked up alot of folks from the Atlas shutdown, at least Im seeing new names (to me) more in the past few days. [^][^]
It's turning into a typical Hoosier summer, 88F and 89% humidity,no breeze with possible T-storms later. How could you ever get tired of that?
Now as for this iced coffee thing, I'm putting it right below H2O and sun tea. I have really begun to appreciate it. Might have to start making 2 pots, one for the icebox and one for work.
Have a great day, folks!

Phil - haven't run into the motion sensor switch yet, but I have seen hotels where they require you to put your room key in a slot on the inside in order to activate the electric (lights and a/c) for the room. Of course the answer is to get two room keys so you can leave the power activated.

I'm not exactly an orphan from the Atlas forums as I had already been coming here for some time before they shut down, but I did spend more time over there. I liked having the N guage specific forum (although I recognize that a lot of topics are gauge neutral). The Atlas forum always loaded a lot faster that this one on my computer. Here it's like watching paint dry to get a topic to load. Theoretically I'm supposed to be getting a faster line (still through the phone company) sometime soon. I actually already have the DSL modem and cables, just waiting for them to activate the line, and waiting, and waiting..... We'll see how much faster it actually winds up being (note that was "up", not U.P.).

Hey one great thing about living down here is that you generally have all ceramic tile floors. Why is that important you might ask? Let's just say I was trying to install some MT coupler conversions this afternoon, sproing, sproing, bounce, bounce......... No carpet pile for springs or screws to hide in!!! Those coupler conversions are about enough to drive me to drink (thanks, yes I do believe I'll have another cuba libre) or to contribute to the thread on "Ever lose your cool on your RR?". But more on that tomorrow.

Hasta manana

Morning all!
If you look at the topics and posts "the coffee shop" is in noisy neighbour hood nowadays, all we miss is now grafitty on the walls
Bill M. asked for lawyer jokes in some of the topics about UP,
but I thought those topics are way too serious so I post it here:

Four surgeons were taking a coffee break and were discussing their work. The
first said, "I think accountants are the easiest to operate on. You open
them up and everything inside is numbered." The second said, "I think
librarians are the easiest to operate on. You open them up and everything
inside is in alphabetical order." The third said, "I like to operate on
electricians. You open them up and everything inside is color-coded." The
fourth one said, "I like to operate on UP lawyers. They're heartless spineless,
gutless, and their heads and their *** are interchangeable."
