Hey RT, BC/BS, ok'ed my daughters operation also. Oh well..... we live and learn. It sounds like you have a good insurance company, be thankful !!!!!

Everyone have a great Saturday. Mine is sort of sad, I lost another childhood friend, but I know her suffering is over. She had ovarian cancer that spread.... basically everywhere. She suffered for 2+ years, but that's over now. Just too young, 49 years old. Ya'll remember Lana Murphy Franks in your thoughts and prayers.

Hey der5997, I'll take a good single malt on the rocks !!! :-)

A beautiful day here on the Eastern Shore. I should probably be outside, but I need to keep an eye on the credit card with PC around placing orders for exotic non-food items. PC, you can get your own here:
QUOTE:

1. One evening as the sun went down
And the jungle fires were burning,
Down the track came a hobo hiking,
He said, "Boys, I'm not turning
I'm heading for a land that's far away
Beside the crystal fountain
I'll see you all this coming fall
In the Big Rock Candy Mountain
Chorus:

2. In the Big Rock Candy Mountain,
It's a land that's fair and bright,
The handouts grow on bushes
And you sleep out every night.
The boxcars all are empty
And the sun shines every day
I'm bound to go
Where there ain't no snow
Where the sleet don't fall
And the winds don't blow
In the Big Rock Candy Mountain.
Chorus:

3. In the Big Rock Candy Mountain
You never change your socks
And little streams of alkyhol
Come trickling down the rocks
O the shacks all have to tip their hats
And the railway bulls are blind
There's a lake of stew
And gingerale too
And you can paddle
All around it in a big canoe
In the Big Rock Candy Mountain
Chorus:
4. In the Big Rock Candy Mountain
The cops have wooden legs
The bulldogs all have rubber teeth
And the hens lay soft-boiled eggs
The farmer's trees are full of fruit
And the barns are full of hay
I'm bound to go
Where there ain't no snow
Where the sleet don't fall
And the winds don't blow
In the Big Rock Candy Mountain.
Chorus:
5. In the Big Rock Candy Mountain,
The jails are made of tin.
You can slip right out again,
As soon as they put you in.
There ain't no short-handled shovels,
No axes, saws nor picks,
I'm bound to stay
Where you sleep all day,
Where they hung the jerk
That invented work
In the Big Rock Candy Mountain.
Chorus:
attr. to Harry "Haywire Mac" McClintock

QUOTE: I'll take a good single malt on the rocks !!! :-)
Reminds me of the innocence of the staff at our most often visited (not favourite, that’s different) restaurant in the Harbour. A summer neighbour of ours asked for a single malt. The waitress didn’t know what that was, and after some consultation with other staff, which was a joy to watch, came back to ask what brand of beer he would like![(-D]

My gantry crane may not be adaptable to containers after all. SeaRails is sending me a selection of grapples etc. from which to choose (just return the one(s) I don’t want. [tup]) I may end up with the gantry crane on a different dock, and a big container crane for the terminal. Have to weigh the costs.
See you folks later.

Good evening gents, I trust that everyone had a nice Saturday. It was cool and cloudy here and the showers started about 3pm. The forecast is for three more days of this with heavier rains at times. A big upper level LOW pressure system from DUKE LAND is moving ever so slowly from the GL region eastward.

On the Model RR front, we went to Warren, Ma to Tucker's, my favorite LHS, and picked up some nice deals on cars. What works great here, is that we then turn south to the town of Sturbridge where the CFO has several home & craft stores that she likes, then we eat at Cracker Barrel Resturant. So, whenever I feel the "need" to visit Tucker's, the CFO is ready to go also. For you younguns in MRR, and married, see how it is done.[:D][;)][;)][;)]

DUKE Are you and Faye able to make it east again this year?

GASOLENE ALERT Filled up last night and the price was $2.83, and he was changing the prices for today to $2.89. There are some stations in the Boston area that has regular at $3.03 already! And in NJ, several stations RAN OUT OF GAS!!! The reason was given that.......the refineries are switching over to Ethenol.....ya right, and I just sold a bucket of ice to some Eskimos too !!!

RT That is great news on insurance....I almost dropped off the computer chair last night when I read the amount of your bill.

LUC, DER JOHN, FERGIE Enjoy the sun today because you won't see it again for long time I fear. This is a slow mover, and it looks like next Friday before you see the sun again. Maybe a trip to your LHS is in order ???

COYOTE ATTACK Just came on the news, a father was bitten on the arm by a Coyote that was part of a pack near a camp ground about 25 miles NW of here on the NH border. The father tried to chase the Coyotes away with pepper spray, but one Coyote attacked. Eastern Coyotes are getting very bold and less fearful of humans.

HOTSHOT CHARLIE Welcome to the CS Charlie[#welcome] and we are very sorry to hear about your friend. Be assured that she is very happy now. It will be tough for those left behind with just memories, but that is key to dealing with sorry, she will always be with her friends in their hearts.

Hey thanks *** for the message. yep, she's better off. Happy and walking on those streets of gold.

Hope everyone has a joyus Sunday, and hope the weekend is going great. I went out and shot photos of our "HILLTOP" group today. Area churches get together and send out kids with adult leaders and repair, paint and fix up homes of those that either can't do it themselves or can't afford to do it. It's a total blessing for everyone envolved. I saw a lot of home owner tears today..... I also saw a lot of kids with smiling faces. Great project.

Hey Chloe and Zoe, nothing for me tonight.... gone to bed, early church come quickly ! Prayers for all in need.

MORNIN ALL, coffee and a couple of Bills doughnuts Janie.

Lit the heat stove again this morning, kinda cool out, I’ll run it long enough to get the dampness out. Temps up in the 70’s today and rain coming in for tomorrow. Weather guessers are saying a chance of frost for Wed. and Thur mornin.
I got all the carpets cleaned yesterday, including the train room. Didn’t get the bed rooms done, Mother still has some cleaning to do in them the bed rooms. That pretty well shot the day and my back, so didn’t do much else.

Hot Shot , Sorry to hear of your friends passing. Our thoughts be with you and the family

DER , if you were doing HO, I would make you a good deal on a traveling container crane. I got one in a yard sale box of trains a few years ago and have no need of it.
Enjoyed the song, I’d forgotten it, but then I seem to have forgot several things

Jerry , the box car would work just fine, have them drop it on Little John’s siding just out back

RT , that a right good deal on the plywood. I could sure have use bout 20 sheets here on a couple projects.

*** , Heard bout the gas back east on the news. Gas is higher here than the national average of 2.83. It’s 2.89 – 2.92 now. #1 son said gas went up to 3.00 in Marshall this week for a couple hours then dropped
The coyotes round here are cross with domestic dogs, called coys. Haven’t heard of any attacks here, but they will challenge a body out in the woods.

PC , I heared ya missed out on the vette, better luck next time.

Need to get going and fire the smoker up, I is fixing a drunk smoked chicken for supper. Between keeping the fire hot and a race, hoping to get some train time in. Laters all

Good morning everyone, a cloudy and very raw day today, only 43F after 70's on Friday, my body doesn't know whether it is winter or spring!! Not much rain yet as they said, the rain guage says 0.09" since midnight, but, they said we will get about 2" by tonight.

Yesterday, I helped son #2 plant 10 Colorado Blue Spruce trees along the North side of his driveway. They make excellent wind and snow breaks in Winter. We get the trees from the Forestry, up here in Massachusetts, as seedlings , 25 for $13. After about 5 years they are 3' tall, and ideal for transplanting. My back told me last night that I was 67, not 35, and I said, " yes ohh great one, I know it " [:)][:)]

The way everything has turned green, I need to do the annual maintenance on the mowers, ie, new or sharpened blades, change the oil and spark plugs, grease the fittings, blow out all the nuts and grass from the engine left by wintering mice, check air pressure in tires.

INCH53 Mike, I see you were up early this morning, and it looks like you are gettin ready for some fishing too....catfish on the old black iron fryin pan like Grandma used to have for breakfast......ahhh, the good olde days of my youth.

HS CHARLIE What a great thing for the young people to do, fixin up the homes for those who cannot........this renews my faith in humanity. God bless those people!!!!

Well, were headed over the hill 1000' to son #2's house for Sunday dinner and a relaxing afternoon. I'm sure that the fireplace will be ON also on such a raw, cool, damp day.

Have a great and Blessed Sunday to all, and prayers to all who need God's helping hand....

OK guy's, this is probably going to hit the top of the page. With that in mind, I've taken out a second mortgage on the house. The vette didn't pan out, so I had to do something!

I'll take some of that coffee Chloe. Thanks!

Well, I went for another Sunday morning walk. Got some great pic's I thought I'd share with all of you. I won't post them all because there's too many, but I'll share some of the highlights. If you want to see more just click the link in my signature.

And here's the engineer's view........

From NKP 426.

And the highlight of the tour......

The cab of Monon # 83. Here she is......

And here's her cab....
from the engineers seat.....

And across the cab...

It was a nice walk, as you can see. There's more pic's on my railimages account if you're interested.

inch,
Yeah, I missed out on the vette. It's not nice that wetidlerjr keeps teasing me with it. [swg]

All,

There's a lot of you out there who've asked for prayer, and I haven't forgotten about you. I pray for you regularly, even if I don't always tell you that I do.

Well, I'm outta here!

Catch ya later!

Hay John, Come on over and have one on me. I'm just killing a few minutes untill go home time. There isn't much to say today. I spent the day here at work doing not much of anything speical. The CD player at Gold River was acting up so I got to set and fiddle with it for an hour or so. Than the water level at the gator pool was high this morning so I turned the make up water down. Then it got alittle low so had to ad some and set the make up water again. When I left it it seemed to be doing alright. Not real hard but you have to set and watch to see if what you did is riight.

I guess I'll burn the dead grass and weeds on the 7.5 in track. If I'd get the weed killer out earler than I could avoid this. I need to take the trailer down and park it at the lumber pile we're getting rid of, then take the tractor and put the hay forks back on so we can put out some hay.

Phillip: Those are good shots of the equipment. I like those old outside braced box cars. I doint suppose that you have a good side view of that Milwaukee Road Reefer that you could get for me? I've got a couple of Train Minature reefers that I want to letter for the Milwaukee Road.

Time to hit the road. I may get back in tonight. Lots to do before Ed gets here.

Good afternoon, and a very Springlike afternoon it is.[^] Thought that I’d share the sunrise this morning.

While we were having lunch, we saw the local lobster fisherman checking his traps in Mozier Cove. This is the first time we’ve seen him this season, didn’t catch him setting them in the foul weather we’ve had since the season opened on the 19th.

Jerry: Sorry to hear Sallie Wasn’t so well yesterday. On the building not being square, if you do shorten one wall, and the corner is at the back, a down spout would lead the eye away from any mismatched bricks. (It probably would in the front too, especially if you put a figure nearby.)[swg]

RT: [tup] on your find of interior boards. That’s quite the place you have there. This smilie is green with envy[:P]…so’s this one[alien]

***:
QUOTE: This is a slow mover, and it looks like next Friday before you see the sun again.
… that rain is due tomorrow. The paper said it may be sunny again on Thursday. We generally go by the TV, but Ellen has the paper, and likes the forecast there.

TupeloRob: Feeling for you in the loss of your friend. 49 is Way too young. As you say, she’s in the best place, and it’s those left who are grieving. But you grieve “not as those who have no hope”, and that makes all the difference.[angel]
That HILLTOP project sounds very good indeed. Hilltop as in experience?[?]

Mike:
QUOTE: DER , if you were doing HO, I would make you a good deal on a traveling container crane.
Could you possibly throw a scale rule over that crane, and give a photo or two? It seems I’m stuck with having to scrathbuild one if I am to get one in N. SeaRails only supply built up ones, and their price is $399 plus shipping, and I hate to think what that would be.[:O][V][sigh]

PC: Thanks for the photos. Took me a while to orient myself inside 426. I was thinking the throttle was on the right hand. [D)]

Getting on towards Rossie feeding time, so I’ll say TTFN. Did get a little more plaster work done this p.m., and should now be able to take away the newspaper that’s been preventing the container freight from proceeding for about 3 days now. [:o)]

Good Afternoon Coffee Clubbers

Well, we're in the middle of packing. Should finish in a short while. We leave on our trip north tomorrow morning. So I'll be off line even more than usual for about two and a half weeks. May find someplace to log in and catch up on posts, but can't be sure.

Should be at Paul B's next Saturday, and at Teffy's the following Tuesday. So I should get a bit of a forum/model rr fix anyway. Also going to try to stop by the Railroad Museum in Dallas. They have a Big Boy on display. I've never seen one in real life (or real steel, as it were), and am looking forward to that too.

Hold the fort until I get back. I'll still be hanging around for the rest of the afternoon.

Regards

Ed

Sounds like the service station guys are trying to feed a bunch of crap to their customers now, maybe hoping to start a new market since they're out of gasoline. I'm waiting for one of our local coyotes to come up and taunt our dogs like he usually does, there's a loaded .30-06 on my bed as we speak. (yes, the bolt's open and the safety is on)

QUOTE: By Paul B.: I guess I'll burn the dead grass and weeds on the 7.5 in track. If I'd get the weed killer out earler than I could avoid this.

FIRE!!! NEED FIRE!!! Been without it too long with these burn bans! Most places won' t burn too easily now, the grass is green enough to stop it, it's not growing, but it's green.

We've been busy putting in air conditioners/heaters for the last couple of days, one of the old ones was 34 years old, and the other was 29, so Dad figured it was about time to replace them, and these are a lot more energy efficient units. They're split systems, which makes them a lot harder to install than a package unit, but it looks a lot better.

Prom was last night, and Graduation's coming up on May 19. Prom was good, the theme was Las Vegas, so they had a casino set up for a little while where the winners got tickets for a drawing (you also got tickets if you were on the dance floor, that's how I got most of mine), and drew for 3 prizes every 30 minutes. My date was really nice, I really didn't know her all that well, but we go to college together, and she's a whole lot better girl (i.e. she doesn't go out in the country and get drunk every weekend) than anyone in my class, so we got along pretty well.

Well, I've got to go to youth group in a minute, so I'd better be going,

I took it from just behind and to the left of the engineers seat. You can see the back of the seat in the photo.

BTW, those shots of your's sure do make me homesick. I lived in Belfast, Me. for a long time. Spent a lot of time on Deer Isle too.

GREAT Photos Phillip !!! Love it.

der5997, yes HILLTOP as an experience. God's work through outreach.
It's actually HILL Tupelo Outreach Project. But yes, it's a wonderful experience. I took 311 photos over the past two days at 21 work sites. I put nearly 300 miles on my car. It was worth every bit of time and money it took me to do this.

Now Chloe and Zoe, how about a nice cold glass of Iced Sweet Tea ! :-) (Southern Thing) heheheeee

Good Evening Gang:

Greg: We've been burning brush for a couple of days now. I called the sherrifs dept and let them know what we wanted to do, they said go ahead so we fired up. I had to quit burning the right of way because the wind picked up and was making the fire hard to control. We're supposed to get some more rain Tuesday so I may do it again that evening. We've had coyotes in the back yard a couple of times. I use a copy of a 1892 Winchester in .357 for that duty. It is the real short trappers model and a very handy weapon to handle.

PhillC: Please don't go out of your way, but I would appreaciate it.

Hot Shot: That is a great job the kids are doing. My hats off to them.

Gang, I'd like to suggest that we throw a graduation party for Greg. I'm sure that the girls would let us use the coffee shop.

Ed: We're waiting.

Der: You really know how to make an old soul from the great lakes feel homesick. Those photos look good.

Well, it's time for bed again. It's getting so that it seems that the only thing I do is get up, go to work and come home and go to bed.

So, Good Night All

No, no, no, not a problem. See, I was kind of holding out on all of you. I'm going back next Sat. because one of the guy's on the restoration crew has invited me back for a private tour of NKP No. 587, a Mikado. It's in the shop partially torn down for a rebuild and he and I talked this morning and he said he'd get me in. I'll be sure to bring the camera for that! Anyways, while I'm up there I'll get some better shots of that car. It sits right next to the shop that 587 is in, so it's only out of my way by about 50ft.! I think I can "make the sacrifice"![:D]

Here's NKP no. 587 before the teardown taken just outside my backyard;

inch,

I see you've been busy with the camera too! Nice shots! I especially like the first one. It's a nice silhouette.

Evening, all! Just a quick cup to go for me, Janie!

I'm waaayyyy too far behind on the posts to read them all tonight, so my apologies to anyone who posted something for me in the past umpty-nine pages. I'll try to get caught up a bit each day (probably what I should have been doing) over the next few days.

Won a few things on eBay in the past couple of weeks - some back issues of MR, another RDC-1 (just ask SiberianMo Tom - can you ever have too many? [;)] ), and an Ernst gearing set for the RDC (they don't have 'em in stock at Walthers anymore).

I've also been doing some planning on how to use some DPM modules for building a background storage warehouse (doors for two boxcars, two stories high). Made a mockup using the DPM templates which looks pretty useful, but I may have to get one or two more module packages.[oops]

Will pray for those with health concerns and special needs currently, since I haven't had time to read over even a portion of the posts. [angel] [angel]

Need to get going for now. Take care of yourselves and your loved ones. [:)]

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Good evening Shop Dwellers,

CapeJim - come on over to the table while I compose this post! Beefing-up your roster to support additional commuter service, eh?

PC - those are some excellent shots of old equipment, but I thought you had moved from that town? Anyway my fav was the Boilermaker crane - my father graduated from Perdue in '51.

Ed - give my regards to Bob [teffy] when you visit him.

HC Rob - condolences on the loss of your friend. I have a stepsister who's 47 who just underwent surgery for *** cancer [double mast.] and now shes going thru chemo. Seems like everybody's getting cancer nowadays!

. . .
Looks like another weekend drawing to a close - actually, a whole week where I didn't have to devote any time to my kids' school-related activities (Spring Break). The upshot: Another lineside industry completed! It's a propane gas distribution center built totally from Plastruct and Evergreen (except the Ford C-series trucks, which are Athearn's). I'll start with an overall view:

Here is a closeup of the tank car unloading platform with 2 propane trucks parked in front:

The next image shows the warehouse/office building. The propane tank trucks started as stake trucks like the one shown.

...Well thats it for me for tonite, Monday morning comes way to soon and I gotta get rested for it. Toodles!
