Afternoon all

Rob-That is too bad about the Mounties,it seems that a lot of it has been going on lately. We lost about 6 police around here last year, and it is never good. [angel]

Noah-What I have learned from my friend in Del and listening to others here in the shop, taking it apart to redo is part of it.I am getting my benchwork built and I know there will be something come up that I will have to change as well,so Hang In There. [:)][tup]

Bridge Tom-You and the others,I won’t go with names because I know I would leave someone out, sure do know how to model. All of you,GREAT PICS and GREAT LAYOUTS[^][:)][tup] [bow] [yeah]

Brian-I don’t know about Cal,but have you thought about a garage sale??You could put things out that you would like to see go away, but someone else would like to have, and that way it would give you some money towards the layout

[#welcome]mac4884,pull up a chair and sit a spell.

Well that’s about it,so I’ll be on my way and say HI to Matt and Siberianmo on the way out.

Bridge Tom- Glad we are on a two track main. Hate cornfield meets. Enjoy your services tomorrow.

Duke- Yep! Hot dogs at Ye Depot. Makes for different friday night date.

Rain quit late last night. Beautiful day for biking or anything outdoors. It's BIKE WEEK in Daytona. They expect over 300 thousand bikers from around the world. They interviewed a Dane, one of a group of thirty five. Said he saved for 2 years to raise the 25ooo kroin[sp-help me,Lupo.] It's about 5thou American. I would not get into that mess of traffic for 2 BLI's. Used to vend there before Deb's health went bad.

Time for a fresh pot. I'll peek in later.

Hello everyone. I'm jealous of you all. Having a layout to work on. Maybe later this year I can start on one, after I clean my trainroom out. So, wish me good fortunes.

Bob (TEFFY), I want to [#welcome] you to the coffee shop, there was another Bob (TEFFY) here...hey wait, you wouldn't be him by some chance would you. Welcome back Bob.

A big [#welcome] to all the newbies. And [bday] to those that had or will have them.

I like all the pictures that everyone has posted.

It's the Coffee Club all done up in a naughty ,nautical way.
March 12 is the day the Texas State RR is scheduled to reopen. Anyone going at any time ask to speak to Ben. He is a terrific modeler and a personal guy. He helps maintain the engines and cars as well as run them.

Debbie made necklaces, matching earrings, bracelets and what we called a haircuff.
Guys with ponytails but particularly for gals with long hair. She would decorate them with whatever color beads they preferred to match their bike color. I put the snaps on.
We have various colored marine vinyl many diff. beads, flags on beads, horn, bone, etc.
Also made vest extenders for both leather and denim. We also sold readymade items like clocks, dewrags , Zippo lighters with HD logos. Also Hot Wheels HD cycles and trucks.

ps. still have inventory since we haven't gone to any events since she got sick.

Good Evening All:

It's been a good day, I cut the pit for the turntable, installed it, and then decided that it would be easier to add grass, crud, and weeds to it on the bench instead of on the layout. I did feel good watching it rotate and the locos move on and off.

John:
When I made a post a couple of days ago about a tire in the pit you said that I shouldn't do that as "how did it get into the pit?" I didn't answer - I don't know why - but I saw a pit with a big ole truck tire in it down in New Orleans 15 or so years ago.

siberianmo:
You are going to enjoy John and Fergie's layouts. I envy you, getting to see the development on John's layout and the work on Fergie's. You'll also get to see and hear the "pink panther". The Canadian hospataity is out of this world, I got a chance to meet and visit with them this past fall when we were on vacation and went to Halifax.

Back to the guys in the coffee shop

Cat Tom:
Stephanie (wife) thinks that a cat is what we need but I keep telling her that they like to play hockey with cabooses (cabeese?) being the puck.

Well, I'm going to go check on the grass and see if the glue is dry yet.

Ya'll have a blessed evening and remember SANTA FE ALL THE WAY

Zoe or is it Chloe on nights, haven't figured that out yet, but then again I haven't figured out who is on first, or even if its what on second! May I have my decaf Latte, and ohhhh, I'll think I'll have a piece of that fresh strawberry cream cake, it looks delish. oh great my corner seat next to the window is vacant. I want to thank all who have welcomed me to the cafe, just give me time and i'll learn what base ya'll are on. I'm just going to gobble this down more or less on the run, I promised my wife we'd hit the casino tonight and make our quarterly contribution to the Indian Retirement Fund. I was very sorry to hear about the deaths of the RCMP's they and their families are in my prayers.

Before I leave let me this share this little story, I plan on working it into my sermon tommorrow.

A golfer set up his ball on the first tee, took a mighty swing and hit his ball into a clump of trees. He found his ball and saw an opening between two trees he thought he could hit through. Taking out his 3-wood, he took another mighty swing; the ball hit a tree, bounced back, hit him in the forehead and killed him.

As he approached the gates of Heaven, St. Peter saw him coming and asked "Are you a good golfer, to which the man replied: "Got here in two, didn't I?"

Hope that leaves all of you with a chuckle,

Good Evenin' Everybody,
Today was a quiet day in the mountains. Louise came home yesterday not feeling very well. As the evening went on she got worse. She's got a really bad cold or the beginnings of the flu. So we didn't make to the flower show today, which isn't the end of the world. It's supposed to be a really good show, but it's right in the middle of downtown Atlanta, which I never mind avoiding. Today was a day for quiet and rest and homemade chicken soup. She's really pretty sick right now, but hopefully she'll start to feeling better tomorrow.

RevAndy, so that's where the name (golf) came from. I had no clue.

Siberianmo, That sounds like a really great trip for a 17 year old. Something to remember forever. Irish coffee is good stuff, but then so is Jack Daniels.

BridgeTom, sorry to hear the 2-10-2 went on strike. Steam locomotives will do that sometimes. A lot of my layout rebuilding was prompted by an Athearn 2-8-2 that refused to cooperate on my curves on grades and curved turnouts. More bridges are just more of a good thing. I'm only going to have one tunnel, but I'll have six, possibly seven bridges or trestles.

Steve, I really enjoyed the pictures.

Ed, now that is the right way to do wiring. Unfortunately it's not an option for all of us. I'll think about you the next time I'm crawling around under mine.

Rob, I'm terribly sorry to hear about the Mounties. Unfortunately it's becoming all too common pretty much everywhere.

Teffy, welcome back. We wondered where you were.

Fergie, I'll second or third or whatever the motion for pics of the loco in full M.E.S.S. heraldry.

I'm going to go for now.
Have a great evening, everybody,
Ga. Tom

Teffy - WHOA - hold it - PULEEZE! This is progressing way too fast for me.

Yes, I am going to Bedord (Halifax) in May - and yes - we have family there - and yes, we are arriving by VIA Rail (always, is there any other way???!!!) - and yes, I'd love to have the opportunity to personally meet (as in have a cup of coffee, etc.) with "the guys," but nothing has been firmed up! WHOA.

Okay - now - my name is TOM as in T-O-M (something short, as you pointed out!) So let's not rename me - Tom has worked for nearly 67 years - MO Tom would be acceptable - as would Tom MO - but PULZEEZE don't confuse me anymore than I already am.

You are right about Canadian hospitality - I get it everyday - Mrs. Siberianmo is a Canadian AND now a naturalized U.S. citizen - best of both worlds.

On a different note - I've uploaded some photo's on my railimages site .... take a look!

Good night all .........

Happy Railroading! Siberianmo

Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,

Stayed overcast all day. No more rain, but it never got too warm either. I can handle it. [^]

Did some gooing down (that’s gluing using Walther’s “Goo”) of my ground throw switch stands today. Even though they’re a little oversized for N, they’re a lot better than those manual activators that come with the Atlas Standard switches. Also got out all my ground foam colors, and mixed up a couple of batches of different strength dilute white glue. Never actually glued any down, but I’m close. Now trying to decide on the right color blend. Maybe tomorrow…….. [:)]

QUOTE: Teffy: Did you get your e-mail on the painted wedding dress?
Oh yeah. Good one there. Nice artwork. [tup]

Tim, I read some of the stuff over on GR. You have my sympathies. I don’t think I’d help anything by chiming in on your side, especially as an outsider to the forum. But I think you’re taking the wrong tack in trying to go against him. I think the better tactic is to ignore him and not respond to his posts. But that’s jmho, I suspect others here may have a different point of view. It’s also easy for me to say as “It’s not my ox getting gored.” But you know I subscribe to the “Do not feed the trolls” philosophy of message boards.

QUOTE: Noah: I also get to go to the monthly NMRA division meet tomorrow, which is why I hope to stop at the hobby shop there. I can’t wait, as David Popp and Cody Grivno, of MR fame, will be presenting the two clinics.
Sounds like you have a very good and active Division. Enjoy the workshops and the trip to the LHS.

QUOTE: Matt: Update: Bahn TV are now showing some form of passenger railtour in Mexico - they have a single GP unit hauling streamline passenger cars (including a dome car).
Did you happen to catch where in Mexico it was? If it was modern it almost has to be the Copper Canyon run from Chihuahua down to the coast at Guaymas/Los Mochis. Did it run through some pretty good looking canyon country?

QUOTE: mac 4884: …HO conrail freight operations…
Is that conrail as in CR? How does a guy in California come to model east coast railroading? [?]

Siberianmo, enjoyed your thread on Canadian Passenger Operations in the Trains Magazine forum. Thanks for mentioning it here. I only drop in over there occasionally.

QUOTE: LilRob: I'm jealous of you all. Having a layout to work on. Maybe later this year I can start on one, after I clean my trainroom out. So, wish me good fortunes.
Well, good fortune!! But I don’t think all the guys here have layouts either. Brian is still thinking about one and isn’t (CG)Jim also just in the wishing stage? First things first. Get the trainroom cleaned out! [;)]

QUOTE: Teffy: It's been a good day, I cut the pit for the turntable, installed it, …. I did feel good watching it rotate and the locos move on and off.
Yeah, I can imagine it must be a good feeling after working on it from a kit and getting it to operate. Congrats. I look forward to seeing it in about 3 weeks.

QUOTE: LETS VOTE ON siberianmo's NEW NAME SO IT'S SOMETHING SHORT
Uh, maybe it was while you were away. We’ve already been there, and Siberianmo vetoed the proposition. He’s pretty partial to his moniker. Sorry.

Nice golfing joke, Rev. I used to know a bunch of good golf jokes, most of which I couldn’t repeat here in the Coffee Shop though.

Tom W, sorry to hear about Louise, hope the chicken soup and some rest helps her feel better.

QUOTE: Siberianmo: Mrs. Siberianmo is a Canadian AND now a naturalized U.S. citizen…
Me too. Actually I was born in Newfoundland before it was part of Canada and was brought to the states before Confederation. But I was raised in the states.

Okay, think that’s about got me caught up. Hope everyone has a safe and comfortable Saturday night. I’ll see you guys after my weekly dose of chlolesterol, also known as Sunday morning breakfast.

Regards

Hi everyone;

Ed; The park opened today for the 2005 season, my 29th opening. As for the picture, I think that that is cheating. You should have to get down and under and suffer the same consequences as everyone else. Right Fergie.

Rob; We didn’t get that news down here. What happened? Yes we’ll be thinking about them and there family’s.

Gang; That’s the old Teffy. He’s just been meditating and forgot to set the alarm clock. Blond jokes oh boy I hurt.

Mac 4884; Welcome to the coffee shop. Have you favorite on me and set awhile. Fill us in on yourself.

Attaboy; Be my guest friend. Makes things a little easer.

Well I’ve got to get up a 4am so it’s off to bed. Good Night All

Evening all, sheesh, a lot of post since this morning! Just called it quits for the day putting the suspended ceiling in my train room. Used up all my supplies and came up a few T-rails and a few tiles short. Guess that means a trip to HD tomorrow. On the good side, once the ceiling is done I will only need a couple light fixtures and trim work done before I can start building benchwork.

Has she said yes?[:-,]

LilRob, as Ed said you're not alone. I'm still working on my train room down stairs. It will be a smaller layout just to get experience and for experimenting with new things. My main layout will be in a detached two car garage in my back yard but that's a ways off yet. Needs too much work.

Time to log and give my legs a rest. They're tired from climbing up and down the ladder all day.

See you later.

Good evening - just missed Tom MO, Ed and Paul, and I see Duke and Attaboy and Grubby have come in (Grubby's a man of few words tonight [;)]). I’ll get my mocha from Chloe and join you guys there. Looks like a fairly quiet evening here in the Shop.

[#welcome] Mac4884 - have a coffee (or other beverage of your choice) on me! Good to have another brave soul in the Shop. It’s not always easy to stay caught up, but there’re lots of great people here and you can find a lot of useful information (even answers!) here. Don’t be bashful about any questions that you have, either.[:)] Think I missed your earlier comments, but what scale do you model, and what’s your layout (or plans for one, like some of us here) like - time period, following a prototype or freelancing, etc.? I see from Ed’s post that you do Conrail freight, so I’m guessing a modern setting.

I know what Flip means about the posts - tonight I decided to print out one (the next to last) page on the forum - to hand-write my notes for replying). That ended up printing 14 pages(!). Luckily, page 333 was shorter (didn’t decide to print it out after I saw how long 332 was). And Flip, I’m not a shrink, but you just might have a nasty mind...[;)] But then again, I never went for that Freudian approach, either. Or is Cat Tom’s friend Pete interested because he has ‘bridge envy’? [}:)]

Hey, Noah, it’s good to hear that you may not have to totally re-build your layout, even if sometimes it is needed. And Congratulations! on your first Revenue run. Hey, five feet in scale feet would be.... (help me out here, folks, my scale calculator is broke!)[;)]

Cat Tom, you may have had me confused with Tim in L.A. I’m in Missouri, where we do get rain, but not like our poor West Coast people have been getting hit lately. In fact, today it was sunny here, and not a whole lot cooler (a little breeze). Didn’t get our rain last night that they thought we were gonna get. Probably dried out the clouds after all that rain got dumped on the way before getting here.

Teffy, good to hear from you again - we still want to see pics of that ‘trashy’ turntable of yours. So did you use steel belted tires, or retreads, or what in the turntable pit? [;)]

Hey Fergie, Teffy and all the other steam fans here - got a question for you. I have one saddle tanker (0-6-0T) I’m going to use as a (very) local/yard switcher, and I have an Athearn SW1500 (aka SW7, or I may try to convert it to a 1200). But I want one other steam engine, possibly for a small road engine. Bear in mind that I’m modeling a 1950’s (ca. 1959) transition era, a small branch/short line that buys there engines secondhand from other/bigger lines (e.g., SP, ATSF, and others), and is set (sort of) in the Southwest/Four Corners area. So with all that in mind, are there candidates for my steam engine choice which would definitely fit - and which manufacturers make such *affordable* dragons (preferably in the under $150 range)? This inquiring mind wants to know.

TrolleyRob, I did notice that last week, Letterman (as a public service to NHL fans suffering withdrawal?[;)]) had a segment with pseudo-hockey players going at it in the green room. But I never got into hockey even for the St. Louis Blues. I did go and saw one Blues game, but they didn't have much roughhousing at all.

LilRob, I’ll wish you good fortune as well on your trainroom. That, and a fairly speedy time of getting things cleared out.[tup]

Oh no, Luc [:O] - not another poll! But it looks like Tom MO has eliminated the need for that poll (whew!).[;)]

And Ed, have you gone to an eye doctor for that squinting problem? [}:)]

RevAndy, good golf story! I’ll have to send you a golf story I have - about the minister out golfing.

Tom W., for me, a tunnel is a good place to hide a staging track or two. [;)] Sorry to hear Louise is not feeling good. Will keep her in my prayers and hopefully that cold won’t develop into anything else. You have laid in a good supply of chicken soup and tissues, I hope.

[%-)] I think I have the bare basics of ftwN’s description, but I may need someone to assist me on the translation, please.[D)]

Today I went to see if I could find a nice handsaw to take to the shed with me and get my plywood cut so I could start on benchwork next. But they had a choice of a quick cut saw (looked like a smaller version of a plain old handsaw, only about 12-14 total length), or a very small-bladed saw (closer to a hacksaw-type blade). Didn’t end up getting either - figured the quick-cut saw probably wouldn’t negotiate the curves I want in the front edge of my layout, but the other saw would take forever to cut. So, I’m going to go back to try to find a way to use the saber saw I have or get a friend to help me move the plywood over here (and I’ll cut it out on my deck - and hopefully not cut the wood of the deck in the process[;)]) Something that won't cause problems for the budget.

Well, I see you’re here, Attaboy (and Paul and Ed have headed out), so I’ll leave things in your hands. Looks like someone else brought in some goodies (strawberry something, I think). I’ve already had my desert, but there’s plenty for you and the rest of the night crew. Hope Paul gets a good night’s rest before he has to get up tomorrow morning.

Blessings on eveyone’s rest of the weekend (and your modeling work),

QUOTE: (CG)Jim: But I want one other steam engine, possibly for a small road engine.
I'm still hanging around and in and out. Just played a few games of chess with Junior. Sat night is the one night he gets to stay up later than normal. My suggestion for a small road engine would be a 2-8-0 Consolidation. Probably the most common small freight loco going. Many lasted right up to the end. I'd think that the Bachmann Spectrum version would suit you well, and I'd guess that you can find it within that budget. The N scale version (I have that) is a real good loco, so I'd expect the HO version would be just fine. Anyway, you'll get better recommendations from the Horribly Oversized crowd, but I think the 2-8-0 is a good bet, no matter which manufacturer you go with.

Evenin' y'all,

I'm baaaack!!! No, I didn't go anyhere, I've just been really busy this week. Every day when I get out os school, I go run the tractor until just after dark, then feed cattle, and then come home just in time for dinner, and then bed. Nearly done with this project though, got a half section covered with the gopher -getter, then dragged, and now I'm going back and spotting the new gopher digs with the gopher-getter. Burned off about 30 acres tonight, and actually meant to do it too, last time we had a fire that big we didn't mean to, and no one was at home.

Flip: Zippos hugh? My cousin and I both have this fascination with Zippos, we each carry one all the time, although have gotten different styles of lighters form antique shops, some bettter, and some worse. I am looking for another one, but haven't decided what kind of graphic I should get yet.

Tim: Here's a shot of our flood in early 2004. The trees in the background are the normal edge of the river, which is usually about 4 feet deep, but it was 17 feet during this flood. Keep in mind that we've been having a major drought for the last 6 years.

Welcome to any new guys I might have missed, I didn't go back but a couple of pages tonight.

JimRCGMO: Antique shops are the best places to get handsaws, but a jigsaw or a circular saw are the best ways to cut plywood, as thy are easier to fllow a line with. If you get a chance to look for an old handsaw, a Disston with at least five bolts holding the blade to the handle is a very desirable saw, for its history as well as its quality. If the bolts are bras, you've got an even beter deal, and if the medallion has a star instead of a keystone you've really got a good deal, probably out of the mid-1800s.

I know you've got to be wondering about me after that post, but I'll try to explain. I have an interest in any kind of tools, old or new, ubt only if they're American made, Chinese tools just break if you use them much. I even cut the ends of 3 of my fingers off in a 1952 model Delta-Rockwell jointer once, but I wouldn't strongly recommend that. My most recent obsession is with hatchets, but its hard to find information on old ones.

Well, I better go, I'll try to check in more this week so I don't get so far behind,
Greg
