Just turned twelve noon, and I startedin on this trip to the shop at about 10::00a.m.! Had to take and process some photos for here, and also for a project we have coming up. I'd better have some Chinese Tea please Zoe. [^] It's been snowing fine little flakes all morning, but no wind to speak of.

Afternoon all

You can add me to the list of people who've never been to Disneyland - even the Euro one. Saw a review of the EuroDisney campsite recently, all-serviced pitches but at truly crazy prices, about 3X what you'd pay for a decent Municipal site in "mainland" Europe and all-serviced isn't much use for an RV (you just take on water and dump waste when you take it out for the day, saves a lot of carrying containers about compared to a trailer caravan!). I've got a few interesting stories about rough weather while camping - like the time when a miniature hurricane went through, took out pretty much every tree on the site, nobody injured but a few mangled buildings, was over in about 30mins. Have also been on sites where digging drainage trenches began to look like a really good idea (river went up 2ft in about an hour), so can sympathise with Tim on this one!

My latest G scale aquisition (ZillertalBahn 4-wheel coach) arrived this morning from eBay, in great shape and well worth the price (2/3rds of new price and absolutely mint). Currently waiting for a small parcel of spares for my Fleischmann locos - should be here tomorrow with any luck. Will post a picture of the loco I'm rebuilding when it's done - have touched in the paintwork so just need the new couplers and steps now. Should look good with the Rowa "Steuerwagen" (cab car) I have sitting on a shelf awaiting some motive power.

We've sort of had snow - it's coming down now but not sticking. Guessing ground temperature is a little high. Who was it suggested the trip to the Alps? Might well have to resort to that...

Afternoon all.

The rain has stopped for now as tim has mentioned, But we are not out of the clear yet.... it's supposed to start raining again tomorrow. They are saying that we are going to have the worst rainy season in history.... so far we have had well over 34 inches of the wet stuff... I think that compares to like 10 feet of snow.... not sure though. The record for Los angeles was set 115 years ago.... yes you read that right 115 years ago when they first started taking measurements pretty much... Sunday another storm is supposed to be moving in and I am so not looking forward to it.... driving to pick up my bro from work can be quite the chore in my mom's PT Cruiser.... it hydroplanes at around 45 - 50 mph. Once again because of this storm train activity in So Cali has been limited..... good thing I don't have to ride the train anymore.

Paul-I understand you only lose about the top 4" of one of those bales,and the best part is you don't have to stack them on a wagon and then put it in the mow.Some of the new ways of doing things is really nice[:D].

We've had winter come to refamiliarize us with it today. Well, not winter like our horthern friends have, only low 40's today. And mercifully, no sNoah today (and not much rain, either).

It doesn't sound like the storage shed people have any power outlets close to my storage unit, unless I go by some time when one of the managers is there to help me move it over to the place that has an outlet. But not sure if he'll be there on Saturday - we'll see.

Jim, Thanks to you too for the compliments. As luck would have it, tonight is one of those nights when I got a little time on my hands. We went on a field trip today and didn’t have any classes.

Paul, If you ever make a trip this way again you should try to stop there. They’ve made a lot of improvements in just the last 10-15 years. They are even planning to get a roundhouse put up sometime, although that it quite a ways off with the repair to the steam locomotives.

Tim, the ARK can use some trackage rights that we are owed for a favor and come pick you up out of that M.E.S.S! [:D] [;)]But it doesn’t look you’ll be needing the ARK’s services anytime soon if the sun’s coming out.

Well, I guess I better be a moving, but I’ll check back in a little while. That is unless I start running over with the ARK’s main horsepower to get Tim out of that horrible M.E.S.S.!

Just back from the local pool parlor. Wish I had some exciting news to report, but it’s just life as usual down here in the slow lane. Weather continues great, really warm this afternoon, but cooling off nicely now with a bit of a breeze. [8D]

In that case, Brian, take it careful driving. I had an accident once when a car hydroplaned on me. Fortunately no one was hurt, but it was a minor miracle that I didn’t get hit by any of the other cars when I did my trick spin and glanced off the abutment. My guardian angel was sure with me that evening. [angel]

The base is foam, the filler on the sides is Lepages Wood Filler. The road pavement is Woodland Scenics Flex Paste painted on in layers, topped by matte medium, the last two coats of which were diluted with water. Painted with a mix of grey acrylic. Lines are painted and plain paper cut to 4" scale N. applied with matte medium, and the whole finished (for now) with more matte medium. I am going to put a grey/red ballast on the shoulders, and there are guard rails to go on after that (or before, I haven't decided. There's more pics of the road on page 3 of my album on railimages. See the link in my signature. I said "for now" because my matte medium isn't quite matte and it looks as if it's been raining! Maybe I should stir the pot. Anyone experienced that stuff going non-matte over years of storage?

Reminds me of the summer day back in the late 60s when I was sure I could make it back to the office in Toronto from Niagara Falls. Fell asleep at the wheel on the Queen Elizabeth Highway and hit a bridge abutment a glancing blow. Knocked the car into the passing lane. By the grace of God there was no other traffic on the road in either lane. Sure woke me up![:O][:I][B)] How often is there no other trafic in thedaytime on a major highway, in the summer , on a tourist route, even in the 60s?[angel]indeed [tup]
BTW, speaking of Niagara, at that time there were more peaches grown on the Niagara region than in all the Peach State.[:O]

Duke; the top does loose some but it’s the bottom that is the worst. If you can store the bales off the ground some how it’s much better. We store ours on the ground and accept the lose. You’re right, it’s a whole lot better than loading ,hauling, and stacking in the barn. The ease of handling makes up for the waste.

ftwnSengineer; Welcome to the coffee shop. First cups on the house and the rest is on whoever starts a page. Try the OJ. It’s fresh from Ed’s grove. So what’s your modeling pleasure? I’m in HO, ( that’s Horribly Oversize ) modeling a freelance ore hauling road in the upper peninsula of Michigan.

Der; That’s a nice shot of the sea fog. I used to be able to see that on Lake Michigan in the winter.

The sprigging that I’ve referred to is for Coastal Bermuda grass. This grass is planted by taking sprigs ( root stock ) and putting it in the ground. This is done with a machine that takes opens a furrow and inserts the sprigs and than covers them up. The grass makes very good hay and grassing.

Tom; Thanks for the b-day wishes for Mary Ann. Yes we had a good time. Ford said that the engine was OK. They took the radiator out and sent it to be cleaned out. They did this a couple of years ago too so I don’t know what’s going on.

Good evening all.

The dam is a funny lake. Years ago, the lake used to go under the freeway and over to the east. About 10 years ago a huge tree farm appeared as they let the lake start to dry up. Huge trees everywhere. You can't even see the water for the lake from the freeway. Today the headline pic in the paper. Can't see the trees trought the water.

Little sprinkles throught the evening, but nothing compared to last 7 days. LA got more rain then we did. We are at 22 for the season, they are over 30. Normal for us is 8. New sink hole by the Fashion Valley Mall freeway onrap. 35 feet across. That is about 2 miles from last weeks sinkhole. I think I speak for all of SoCal, all you easterners, northerners, and midwest folk, you can have your rain, hail, tornados back now. We have had enough. See if we ask for more rain to fill up the lakes again.[8D][8D]

Thank you from all of us wet, cold SoCals for all your best wishes. We really do not handle all this stuff here. San Diego is desert up to about 10 miles from the ocean. Water in these amounts do not mix well. I bet a few outdoor trains no longer exist around here, but WE CAN REBUILD.

Trench is holding, all that water leaves my newly created backyard pond as soon as it comes. Woo Hoo no more flooding.

Hi all

Have finished repairing the Fleischmann loco, now looks as good as it runs. 3 pole motor, driving 2 axles with traction tyres, picking up on the other truck. Amazingly it'll cruise around steadily at low speeds despite this!

John, Comrade Khrushchev came out of the debate ok - the "opposition" made assorted errors (such as having a very loud person who hadn't bothered to find evidence to support his views... very easy to out-argue them!). Conclusion essentially was that he was well-meaning but a bit hopeless - he had good ideas and intentions but they didn't work. Bearing in mind what he had to work with I'd say he did pretty well - USSR was still recovering from WW2, Stalin's terror, food shortages, etc.

Currently waiting for more snow. Wish I lived "up north" in the Pennines - half the roads up there are closed and they have about 25cm of snow forecast! Our best snow coverage was on the car bonnet this morning - though when you hit 60mph you end up with a personal blizzard effect!

Ed - Yes I did - Thanks! Not sure if I'll be able to get to them, but I'll try. Kinda hard to go places down there when they don't authorize you a rental unless you have to stay off-base. Unfortunately, there are rooms available on-base, so I'll have to try and find a bus that goes that way. Oh well....life goes on!

Today's my last day in the shop till the 14th of March. Please try and keep the posts to a minimum! I had a 4-day weekend last weekend and when I came in on Tuesday, I had 6 pages to catch up on! So, 6 pages in 4 days... 6 goes into 18 days ( off tomorrow) 3 times... so, I expect that at this rate, you all will have approximately 18+ pages posted that I'll have to read up on before I can reply again.... My eyes will be hurting!
