pet peeves

I don't want to just complain--I want to offer solutions, and so beneath each pet peeve I will say how to exact revenge. I am more of a railfan than a modeler, so most of these have to do with my favorite scale: 1/1 [:)].

As such, my pet peeves in no particular order are:
1.) People who use the phrase "steam train." Is the train hauling steam? Didn't think so. I don't hear the phrase "diesel train" much, now do I? Please, just say steam locomotive!

Revenge: Give complete railway grammar lesson, pontificating on the correct uses of "lashup," "train," "consist," "locomotive," "car," and so forth.

2.) People who hear that I like trains, and then look at me (and talk to me) like I have a cognitive disability, because I share an interest with their six-year-old.

Revenge: Matter-of-factly say the following: "The other day I read a very engaging article on the efficincies of Wagner Bypass Valves. Now according to Pascal's principles of fluid dynamics...."

3.) People who complain about sounds made by trains. I'm sick-and-tired of hearing people complain about locomotive horns. If you don't like them, then move! I for one like the sound. There are two exceptions: a) "It sounds like (insert name of your arch-enemy here)'s locomotive has a flat bearing; and b) "These light rail cars can't compair with the GP9's which used to come through here."

Revenge: Get engineers certification, and drive trains on main line with horn blowing as loud as possible, and never turn off the bell!

4.) People who say I have a "trainset," when really a trainset is a group of cars sharing common trucks like the M-10000 or the Pioneer Zephyr.

Revenge: See no. 1.

I hope you enjoyed my complaints,
Daniel
