I don't use any kind of a booster to program these locos on the program track. On occasion I have an issue with a decoder, for example some of the cheap Lenz LE1000 decoders, and have to use a 1K ohm resistor across the rails, but aside from that the Zephyr has programmed every decoder I have tried to work with.
I'm glad it works for you Simon
I'm using a Loco Buffer USB and I can program QSI Locos on the main in OPS mode
as long as I disable the talk back feature
But I can't use the programming track for these locos I always get a
no loco response Time out message
I really don't want to use Blast Mode on the Zephyr because knowing me I'd forget to reset
it when done and fry everything
Terry,
Although nowhere as inexpensive as Simon's resistor suggestion, the PowerPax from Tony's Train Exchange is supposed to work well for these kind of programming challenges.
I think the cost is somewhere in the $50 range. I'd try the resistor method first before you plunk down that sorta money...

Thanks Tom i was aware of Power Pax
I was hoping to find someone that had used it or one of the others
to give me some idea of reliability
The resistor idea doesn't work for me on QSI locos
I have been using the Power Pax for several months on my work bench with a Zephyr and decoder pro on the computer. It has worked great with QSI and Tsunami decoders.
You can add me to the list of Power-Pax users. I have one for my NCE system; it works great for programming the QSI locos on the programming track.

Research; it's not just for geeks.
