Randy here from Big Bend, just west of Muskego.

I model Milw. Rd. & Soo Line, plus my own RR the Waukesha Southern in HO.

I belong to a model RR club called the Waukesha County Gandy Dancers located in downtown Waukesha. Because I'm a member of this club I get a 10% to 20% discount on the majority of my purchases at Hiawatha Hobbies.

As for watching the real stuff, the diamonds at Duplainville are the place to be.

On the CP tracks, trains run approx. 6-9am,& 2-6pm, with Amtrak #8 coming east at approx. between 2-3pm, & #7 west at approx. 4-6pm.

On the CN tracks, at least 30 trains run a day, plus 2 WSOR trains. The WSOR usually runs south [HJ] between 5-7am & the [JH] runs north approx. 6-8pm.

MilwaukeeRoad, we have 5 year olds, a 12 year old, teenagers ranging from 14 to 17 years old, and when we go to Trainfest, most of the kids are the ones running the trains on the layout.  We also have some newly turned 21 and 22 year olds who sometimes act 12 and 13 years old when they're around the layout.  If anything, some of our teenagers are frequenters every open house and meeting.

On August 4th we're having an open house, and you and your mom could come down and meet the members and check everything out, see if you like it.  We'll be having the layout open to run trains on, food for sale and a movie in the DVD player.  We're located at 831 North Grand Avenue, Downtown Waukesha.  We'll be having signs out, and if you need instructions, you can call the clubhouse.  Our number is (262)719-7777.  Also, give us a call if you have any other questions, or you could e-mail them to me.  Our website is www.wcgandydancers.org.  We have information about our open houses and our meetings, when the site is updated, of course.

Snap em if you see em:

At least two of the Hockey-Stick SOO SD60s have been re-lettered to Indiana Railroad, but not fully repainted, so I doubt they'll be with us here in Wisconsin much longer.  (pictures to come soon of those engines)

The BNSF business train went through Milwaukee today on a very late Empire Builder.  Included in the consist was the full-dome/theater car. (sadly I didn't get pictures of that)

At least two ex-IC SD40s still in the Death Star scheme are working in the Milwaukee area doing transfer runs.  They can be easily seen most weekday evenings running through Wauwatosa. Other engines doing this assignment lately have been an unpatched ex-WC geep and a GTW GP40 still in Zebra Stripes. (Pictures of the Death Stars coming soon)

Cheers!

There were quite a few (around a dozen) SOO SD60s that went to the Indiana Railroad, and except for being patched they've all pretty much stayed in SOO paint. They run through on the CP from time to time as 889/890 (I think that's the right numbers, they are loaded/empty coke trains). They aren't real regular, but it seems like there are at least one or two most weeks. Here's a shot I took a few month ago near Mauston, WI, of one of the trains:

Nice Noah, that same consist came through my view finder also, but with the 6004 leading. Around early June right?

Actually that was taken on April 15 (had to look at the EXIF data to remember). The consist could have easily stayed together though and made several trips back and forth from Indiana to Minnesota. It's been known to happen before.

Neshkoro, WI here. I model the Soo Line in N Scale in the 1940's and early 50's...steam and first gen diesels in maroon or black. Eventually will model the P-Line from Portage to Plover when I have the space, but for now it's 4 x 6'8" in N Scale freelance. Hard to find a N scale brick and mortar supplier, so I get most of my stuff online.

Yes I did reply to a very old thread, but one I felt needed resurrecting!  It's kind of nice that this thread isn't gathering like-minded people by scale, or by road name(s), but by where they're from...it makes it seem more...uh...neighborly?  Like you might just have a beer or two with each other some time, or something like that.

I stopped by Galaxy in Plover last Friday.  It's a nice store, and I'll frequent them for things like ground foam, paints and other scale-neutral items, but what they have is HO and HO only.   Which I understand, it is the most popular scale and they have to turn their inventory.  They'll be glad to order anything else and were very friendly.  And there's a great fresh veggie stand in the parking lot.
