A good find at Walthers
Posted by Milwhiawatha on Friday, February 16, 2007 11:38 PM

Well today was a day I decided to go to Walthers. One I found out that they finally got the Ricko 2005 Mustangs in I got a red convertable and a blue hard top. And Let me tell ya these are sweet cars detail is amazing like in their Escalade, and their Dodge Calibur I was not disappointed.

My dad also had to go to pick up a bachmann Spectrum  4-4-0 I believe. They were holding it for him thing comes with DCC but not sound, but it looks great cant wait to run it Saturday. As for me, I picked up those two cars, a 32oz container of Scenics Express fine grass blend turf, a gal of Matte Medium prepared, and some Atlas RH switches.

Well then I decided to see what they had for track in the clearance section and there it was a tube of code 83 track. Oh I had to get it I may need some down the line (pun intended). So I looked at the price and looked at it 2.00 a piece then I found out it was Micro engineering and I made sure I took it all. I have used it with atlas track and have had no issues. I decided to take a look at it before I went on the computer and found out that there is some of their weathered track also in the bunch talk about a sweet deal. so now I'm getting ready to lay the yard hopefully tomorrow.

that is all transmission out.

Your telling me it was unbelievable. I did some math and found out its roughly about $5.24 a piece. Walthers sells 6 pieces for $31.45 for nonweathered and 32.90 for 6 pieces or weathered. I usually check often for deals there.

Loather I make it sound like its a hop skip and a jump which isnt true. It takes 45 minutes to get there. Its not as exciting as it use to be. They use to have a little of everything out on the floor now its basically Walthers / Life like items and woodland scenic build ups. They usually have running trains but it lost something when they removed a lot of the merchandise back to the backroom which by the way I was given a tour about 3 years ago lets just say wow.

We only go when theres a deal or if we need something that nobody else carry's like I said 45 minutes one way is nuts for us. We joke saying they should me to the backyard so I wouldnt have to go so far.

I like Walmart only issue I have is 1 they dont have thecars like the pinto and all, also carry very limited Norscot vehicles still after the dump truck.I however have atleast one of each Malibu cars because thats all they sell there.

And when I drive 45 mins, I'm at Trainland.

I used to feel lucky about that too...

But I might get to see Tony Soprano Wow!! [wow] (scarasm)

i dont drive for a living so 45 min is a lot of time to take out of my day. I would rather be working on the railroad.

Travel time has many different perceptions!

45 minutes of drive time is almost a round trip, from home to town, for me! And than once I'm there...

We haven't had a hobby shop for about twenty years now, the Ben Franklyn Craft's store went out of business about five years ago and I can't even get a can of DullCoat at the Wal-Mart.

Going to Walthers would be fun!

Yea traveling at least 45 mins is no new news to me just to get to the nearest shops, I usually can make it there once to twice a month if I beg my parents, and if I have a good wad of money in my pocket, and looking at all this DCC stuff is going to require a even bigger wad. Oh well, I cant take money with me to the grave, probably could to college, but nah, investing it into the railroad is way better.

Actually its 90 minutes away round trip. I usually dont complain I know I'm one of the lucky ones with Walthers not so far away. I'm just stating its not a quick skip and a jump for me either. The you have the wait at the counter time which when I'm there is usually 10 minutes and the pull time is a cuple more minutes. And some how they only have one guy on which makes it worse but even more worse for him with running anf getting the parts has to be tiring.

I wish my nearest shops where only 45 minutes away. I've got to drive an hour for the privilage of being charged $15.50 for an Atlas turnout and $4.75/length of flex track. But hey! We got to support the LHS right?

I cant believe how Turnouts jumed in price When I started I could get them for roughly 9.00 this was in the really late 90s early 2000 but bow $14.00 to $16.00 is pricey thats why I wait for Walthers sale flyers and hope the select few LHS honor those sales.

Sign - Ditto [#ditto]Switches are EXPENSIVE. I want to build a switching terminal type layout (when I get to building one) and it's gonna hurt. I'd be willing to guess that's why more and more peopleare going with mainline ops. type layouts with little industries or yards. I'm even considering practicing handlaying switches till I start building just to save money on them.

45 minutes!?! And you're complaining? 45 minutes would only get me halfway to my closest hobby shop. But, since it's totally devoted to trains, it's a litle gold mine. They have more train stuff in that little building, than 4 or 5 of the big name hobby shops put together. And they're all great guys, too!

I guess everyone has their own perceptions.  I too drive for a living, and after putting on 1000 miles a week at work, the LAST thing I feel like doing is driving another 45 minutes to get ANYWHERE, lol!

Jeff

P.S.  I live about a half hour from Walthers

Personally I cant say which is a holy grail I have never been to or done business with Caboose Hobbies. I dont like waiting for things when I need them. Infact I ordered LED's from china and Its gonna take 10 days or so but the price was right.

As for Walthers if you go to the Showroom and order you get a punch card. You get a punch for every $25 you spend. you spend $500 you get $50 off your next order. Talk about a reason to go to walthers they know how to get customers coming back. They are the only ones who give incentives <spelling>.

But I made this post not complaining about milage or Walthers is better I just wanted to breg lol no kidding I wanted to let everyone know what I got at a great price, and to let anyone who is modeling todays world that the Ricko 2005 Mustangs are out.

45 minutes ain't so bad. When I lived in West Texas (for 12 years) the nearest LHS with lots of train stuff was Discount Trains in Addison, a 6 hour drive.  On the plus side, if DT had been a 5 minute dirve I'd probably be in the poor house right now.  Of course now I have 2 LHSs about 20 minutes away - so I'll have to watch out - my car seems to like taking side trips when I'm coming home from work!!
If you ain't having fun, you're not doing it right and if you are having fun, don't let anyone tell you you're doing it wrong.

Try going to: Wholesale Trains, Cars, Boats and Airplanes - Custom Built Hobby, Parts, Perip

AtlasHO #ATL541 NS code 83 Remote Snap switch 18"R control turnout is $10.57

AtlasHO #6 turnout #ATL505 NS manual code 83 turnout$10.16

N scale Atlas #ATL2701 NS remote control standard RH switch $11.90

There's more but you can peruse on your own.

Track is something they can ship right away. All their listings give you the ship date and are generally accurate. If I order it today and it ships "next day" it is on my porch steps the next day by 3 pm. Of course I'm lucky.I may not have Walthers close, but wholesaletrains.com is only a 45 min drive from me, and they have great prices. No, I dont work/get anything from them...just great prices.

I do have a LHS about 10 mins away. They give out "bonus bucks" that amount to about 5% of your purchase, to be used on your future purchase. I go to them for the "quick needs" and to wholesale for major needs...like a bunch of switches. I'm saving my bonus bucks for an engine of some type somewhere down the road. Nice people at both store.

After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.

Yep, Both LHS here are 10 min from home, 5 min from work. So I find myself going there too often and buying too much. The worst is that both of them are near my wife's work, so when I am waiting around for her to get off, I pop in to browse, which always leads to buying.

The Walmarts, etc around here have nothing in the way of trains or train scale vehicles. I haven't been over the bridge to Toys R Us in a long time. Maybe they have some things there.

I checked out NHShobbies ...wow what great prices....have to say I screwed up with ordering and those guys were really nice trying to sort it all out. Best prices too. Will go back for sure. I gave them wrong numbers and just for a small order and they went out of their way. Dont have a huge amount of locos and cars but they were great. They discount Walthers too so I will give that a try next time. Thanks.
