How to open a Trix Mikado?!?
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, January 19, 2007 10:06 AM

Hoping for some help or advice from the more skilled/experienced modellers out there

My expensive Trix Mikado seems to have blown its speaker (still programmable and runs on DCC- so I am assuming the chip is fine).Confused [%-)]

Trix hasn't yet responded to emails (it's still under warranty) and I wanting to change the decoder anyway I was hoping someone could suggest how to open it up- is the tender shell merely a snap on? I couldn't tell from the illustrations and I am a bit hesitant to force things as I usually break things that way!

Any help would be very welcome

All the best

Roddo,

You say that you think that your Trix Mike has blown a speaker.  Is the volume really loud and does it sound like it's distorting badly?  Try turning the volume down on your speaker first.  That's all that it may be.  The small manual that comes with the Mike should have that listed for you.

The BLI Mike tender shell just prys off around two tabs.  I'm guessing that the Trix Mike will do the same.  A small, thin, flatheaded screwdriver or flat tweezers work well for this.
