You won't ever see me run steam locos and mixed era rolling stock when the layout is set up for modern trains, or diesels when the layout is set up for the steam era with the wrong caboose or something. As for the question. No, I don't run things on my layout that I dislike, and if someone happens to give me an item for Christmas, my birthday or otherwise that I don't feel right about-which does occur from time to time, I accept it gratefully, then sale it on ebay or trade it to one of my model railroading buddies for something I prefer ASAP!... jeez. you are cold dude. and from your last sentance, horrifically ungrateful... ebay or trade off something someone got you because it doesn't fit your rather strict guidelines? does it occur to you that perhaps whoever got you said gift did so out the kindness of thier heart and likely is not the expert on your particular modeling fetishes you would like them to be? Is model railroading a job or a hobby for you? if there is fun in modelling in such a way for you, kudos... but it sounds like you take the fun out of it for everyone else around you.

Hello animal8526, and thank you for your observations. I make no apologies for being the way I am. I'm an extreme Misanthropic for which the meaning can be found in most dictionaries or on the web. Regards, Tracklayer

Well, no, Tracklayer. You can't possibly be "extreme misanthropic." Misanthropic is an adjective. On the other hand, you could be characterized as extremely misanthropic, or you may be an extreme misanthrope.

I, however, am extremely didactic. Big Smile [:D]

It would appear we're all anal about something.

So I stand corrected Lynda... But the fact still remains. And this will be my last reply on the forum. I don't know why I ever joined in the first place. I've not ever applied anything that I've ever read here to the hobby due to the fact that I know all I need to as far as I'm concerned, but hope I've been of some help to someone out there with what I've offered. Good bye and best wishes to you all with your hobby and your modern world. Tracklayer ... for heaven's sake, it was a joke, man. I even included smiley faces.

Andre ... thank you for seeing my twisted humor and the irony of it.

Generally ... I don't judge anyone else's layout or prototyping decisions. I happen to love the dickens out of GP30s, but I've made a conscious decision to model the 1955 era; so, guess what? I'd love to have a 4-8-8-4 Big Boy, but the notion of running anything UP on GN track is historically absurd. But that's just me. I couldn't give a floundering farthing what anyone else decides to do.

You're quite welcome, Lynda. Actually, I should be thanking you since you're the only person I've seen on this forum whose sense of humor is as twisted as my own. I was starting to feel like the Lone Ranger. 'Course, other people more often see me as the Lone Haranguer. Laugh [(-D].

well, if thats you taking your proverbial ball and going home, sorry to hear it. I'm new here, but I have to think that a person with well over 1000 posts had to help someone somewhere. couldn't have all been just about detesting us other humans. infact, I have to think the evidence would prob lean toward your other misanthrope buddies (there's a funny image, and extreme in oxy-moron) casting you out of the club... I would think helping another one of us human scum may be against the rules.

I'm sorry animal8526, Lynda and everyone. I'm not feeling well at all lately, and blew my stack about something that was said on another thread that offended me that most of the time I would have ignored. Please forgive me for shooting off my stupid mouth. As for my being a Misanthrope. I work hard to try and overcome it every day, but if you only knew how hard it was for me to leave my house just to go to the grocery store maybe you would understand. The truth is, it's not so much that I despise the modern world as I am afraid of it. I suffered a head injury back in 1981 on a construction job accident and this is one of the long term problems that it's caused me. I guess we all have our crosses to bare. This is just one of mine. My sincerest respect to you all. Tracklayer

Tracklayer,

though I did not agree with the specific views you had presented earlier, I honestly gave you some respect for being fourthright. with this last post, you have gained that much more. no apology needed. I just want you to know I meant no disrespect or offense... my comment about you prob not being as huge of a misanthrope was intented to convey to you that I didn't think you could be nearly as bad as you thought.

lastly, as far as distrust of humankind, I feel you. I've spent almost 4 years in the army, the last of which was spent in Iraq, and I have seen some of the worst things people can do. tracklayer, you have my sincerest respect for dealing with what you deal with. and nothing but my goodwill. I hope to be able to tap into your knowledge at some point. till then, take care. no ill will here my friend.

I have a couple of relatives who don't visit very often.  When they do, I run a REALLY UGLY SP diesel rescued from a yard sale by my sister.  The gentleman is my nephew-in-law, and an ex-UP (ex-SP) employee.  His wife is the one who conned her mother into buying the loco and sending it to me.

I run the Thing with a couple of railroad club boxcars, some TTT hoppers and an SP bay-window caboose that's destined for kitbashing.

After they leave I run the KiHa80 class DMU train over all the track to decontaminate it!

One year my brother gave me 3 Frito-Lay boxcars (all the same rd #), a GP38-2, and a roll of grass mat, all Like-Like. Needless to say that was the last year he gave me a "surprise gift". By the way the geep only ran once and now doesn't work.

As Rod Serling used to say in the intro to some episodes of the Twilight Zone,

"SUBMITTED FOR YOUR APPROVAL:"

1. Early Conrail ran a Mulligan stew of every  locomotive and freight car imaginable,  and continued to operate a number of commuter rail operations.  Reading and CNJ in the heartland, gotta love it!

2. Baby Blue also leased and pooled a wide variety of motive power from all over the place: ATSF, BAR, BN, CN, CNW, PNC, SOU, SP/SSW, UP just to name a few.

3. Conrail "made it," was the target of a red-hot bidding war, and its pieces/parts live on as viable private railways.

You can't knock success--buy and run your favorite mismatched roadnames because  diversity is apparently the path to good railroading, at least in one case!
