Woodland Scenics Hob-e Tac
Posted by RMax1 on Monday, January 1, 2007 8:00 PM

Ok I am a little confused here.  I bought 2 bottles of Hob-e-Tac the other day.  The container was different than normal one and was white.  I realize that the normal stuff I buy is no more than glorified rubber cement but I like it.  The bottles have the same part number as the brown bottles except the container is white.  Open them up and to my surprise was a bad version of Elmer's Glue????   Nothing I used ground foam wise stuck to the stuff???   What is this glue???

Thanks

RMax1,

I had to learn this myself.  The key to the Hob-e-Tac is to let it dry completely FIRST before applying anything to it.  (Dry = clear in color or not white.)  Once it's dry, it becomes extremely tacky.  That's when you can add your ground foam.

Hope that helps...

Thanks Tom

Confused me big time.   I had no idea what this stuff was.  It looked and smelt like Elmer's but things fell right off.  Scratching my head I didn't know what was going on.  I'll go and coat the trees and see what happens.

Robert--the directions for Hob-E-Tac reccommend that you let the glue dry for about fifteen minutes.  My advice is to let it dry for about twenty to thirty minutes, then it will take the foliage and keep it tight on the surface.  It really needs to be clear and VERY tacky to work right.  It's good stuff--you just need to let it set up for a while.

Things that make you go.....        huh????   I should have read the directions for a change but it looked and smelt like Elmer's.  Once I coated the trees I could tell it was different.  I read the directions a little later but still took a step back and went this is a completely different product.  Sure takes a a lot longer to make trees than before.   I went to the website and couldn't find any info.  Even the directions on the new white bottles were not exactly that clear.  Woodland Scenics should have given this a different name or something to show there was a difference.  It would save on some confusion....  Maybe only mine but who knows.

Thanks Tom

Once again the old addage rings true on the instructions, " read directions prior to use". But we all dig right in don't we? Were all guilty.

Robert--

You're welcome.  I found out the hard way, also.  I put Fall foliage on about six trees too soon, and came out the next day to find foliage all over the layout and bare trunks.  Wasn't quite the effect I was looking for, LOL!

But it is pretty good stuff.

Tried the Hob-e-tac and it works pretty good.  Seems to work better than the old stuff.  The only thing I am not happy with is the waiting but it is easier to manage the foliage.  Takes a while to dry but it does seem to stick tighter to the frame.
